Awaiting Friday night karaoke, rated best by The Dallas Observer. Fireball Friday ($4 generous pour)!
    Reed A.

The Dallasite has been a Dallas, Texas favorite hangout for 50+ years. It's genuine Texas, y'all, which is hard to find in our metropolitanized, Yankfied, still fine City of Dallas. In this COVID19 world, The Dallasite adapted and survived, thanks to manager Calvin Bow and owner Rhonda Nail. Still the best Bloody Mary and hottest, freshest bar food in town. Because The Dallasite has a full kitchen, they are taking advantage over many bars by adding a repertoire of new food offerings to expand their liquor and bar menu base. Today, September 1, 2020, I experienced their new Taco Tuesday. As a 65-year-old Texan with every form of 10,000 Tex-Mex experiences under my belt (and perhaps hanging over my belt), I can astonishingly report to you that these are the BEST TACOS I HAVE EVER TASTED! Here's what you get: For the low, low price of 8 bucks, you get 3 whopping, large, fresh, hot, soft corn tortillas totally stuffed with smoked pulled-pork brisket that has been further chopped and topped with your choice of traditional Pico de Gallo and/or mango Pico, the freshest, large avocado slices, shredded cheese, with your choice of multiple sauces, including homemade traditional red salsa, chipotle and/or tomatillo sauce. The tacos come in a large basket with sturdy sides for catching all the goody that inevitably drops from these giants. The contents pack together nicely, however, for routine caveman-style gorging. I have never had finger-lickin' good tacos before, but these are. I didn't care who saw me licking my fingers today! The contents are so generous and plentiful that you can use a spoon to retrieve mouthfuls for dips in the sauce of your choice BEFORE wrapping them up in the traditional way. It was an epic taco experience. Actually, I was shocked! As is often the case in Dallas, sometimes the very best food or drink eminates from the heart and mind of some passionate professional "secretly" on-premises. In this case, credit for this creation goes to long-time Dallasite bartender Nicole. She is a culinary and gardening pro, as well, as her ingredients and creations will prove to you. Taco Tuesday at The Dallasite. All other tacos and taco specials will disappear from your mind and life. And coming out of COVID19 lunacy, doncha deserve a basketful this Tuesday? I do, every Damm week!

    K.P., aka "bar kitty"!

This is one of the best dive bars I've ever been to, for a few reasons. They have machines that can dispense endless shots of Fireball and Jager (although I did not imbibe during my visit), but best of all, if you sit outside, you might get a visit from K.P., or as I called him before i knew his name, "bar kitty". The story, as I heard it from some regulars, is that he was a feral stray who made friends with one of the bartenders that would feed him, and gradually got to where he was friendly to the patrons as well. He's very sweet and loves attention these days! As for, well, bar stuff, it's classic dive bar all the way, and that's fine. Seating outside is old but sturdy fiberglass paneled patio furniture, and the draft beers we ordered were cold and delicious (mine was a Sam Adams Winter Lager). We met some friendly folks while playing with K.P. and just, in general, got a nice vibe from the place on a very unseasonably comfortable winter evening. In fairness, I'm sure my experience was enhanced by my company, a wonderful new friend I'd met through some other friends, and we hung out for a long time trading stories, enjoying the beer and atmosphere, and certainly not least, the company of K.P. Definitely a place worth checking out!

When I asked about the "daily" specials I was told that they were only available M-F.

In my mind if there is a sign that says "Ask About Daily Happy Hour Specials" it implies that there are happy hour specials every day. I follow instructions well and I did just that. On a visit a couple of Saturdays ago, I asked about daily happy hour specials and the barkeep responded in a snarky tone that happy hour specials are only Monday through Friday. Whew sorry, I didn't realize that in the Dallasite alternate universe that "daily" actually means "weekday." So my second mistake was asking what kind of vodka they had. Mr. Barman visibly rolled his eyes and said "Any type you want. We have them all." By this point I'm worried that my evil twin must have recently visited this place and left a bad impression. Maybe she stiffed him on a tip, or maybe she started a bar room brawl. You never can tell what she'll do. I was kind of starting to worry that he was spitting in my drink when I turned my back. And then I really did it. I complained that the tonic in my cocktail was flat, so he begrudgingly remade it and guess what? The tonic was flat again. I figured I better shake a leg before I did something to REALLY piss him off.

So Kurt will stand just barely outside the door for a puff. This really hacks off Sharon, the daytime barkeep. And it's funny. Much like Nickie G., I found this place late--today, in fact. I've been going across the street to Jimmy's for a good while now, and chuckling every time I looked across the street at Dallasite. Seemed kind of sketchy, to steal a phrase. However today my Jimmy's meeting got canceled so I walked across the street and was very pleasantly surprised. Yes, of the 9 people at the bar, I was by FAR the youngest. Sharon took my order, my standard vodka/coke and gotta say--I was impressed with the pour. Thought I was at the Loon for a second. Didn't even bother putting ice in the glass till it was almost 1/2 full of the V. Lovely. Ordered a cheeseburger for lunch, and while I'm sure it was a frozen pre-cut patty, it was actually really tasty. Toasted bun and all. And, like Nickie's experience the cook came out to check on the order. 2 drinks 1 burger $12 sigh. May I have another please? AND THIS JUST IN, compliments of Nickie G.: They gots the Karaoke on Friday nights! Kill it!

I had no idea this place had food. I tried the cheese sticks, and thought they were kind of meh. The fried mushrooms were better, but my friend who ordered them couldn't get over the fact that the first one he bit into was ice cold. The burger could easily earn 5 stars, but you're not able to order it anyway other than well done. *sigh* For a bar burger it was still pretty tasty, though, and hit the spot during a Sunday Funday visit.

Kinda creepy, but fun. Good drinks. Bizzaro vibe. Strange mix of people. Many are regulars. Easy parking. Good fun.

Miss Rhonda, in her own words, "made it with love, Sugar" (and she cut the burger in half before serving it, which I love) along with some piping hot fries.

You walk in and immediately get why everyone loves it. The kitchen is so good and the fact that it's open until 2 AM is a game changer. Late-night food that actually tastes amazing? Yes please. It's perfect for after a long shift, after a night out, or when you're just not ready for the night to end. There are games, pool, and TVs everywhere, so it's basically the ideal place to watch sports or hang out with a group. And the nightly DJ keeps the vibe fun without ever feeling over the top. What I love most is the atmosphere. It's become a real gathering spot for the industry, where people come to relax, connect, and just enjoy being part of the Dallas scene. It feels welcoming, a little edgy, and honestly just cool. If you're looking for a place that nails great energy, great food, and a chic twist on the dive-bar feel, this is it. A true gem!
