We were greeted, and they checked out coats as we came in. The menu had so many good options. We here for restaurant week, $65 for appetizer, entree, and dessert. I had the chopped Nicoise Salad, followed by Saumon Vapeur, ending with the Warm Mahool. Date Pudding. My husband had the Burrata & Feta Salad, followed by the Daube de Boeuf Provençale, ending with the Poire Belle Michele. Plus for my birthday they added a little balloon chocolate mousse with a matcha coated chocolate shell, and a raspberry tail on the plate. The food was all amazing, I've never had anything like that sauce on the Salmon, it was both creamy and refreshing at the same time, a basil infused oil with a buttermilk emulsion. I'm dropping it from 5 stars because by the end of the meal the server disappeared. Other diners near by were offered tea/coffee with dessert, and we weren't also they left the oil/vinegar plates for the bread, in case we wanted more. And then took them away anyway 2 minutes later when the entrees dropped. I did like that they gave us different colored (blue) water glasses to signal that we were drinking sparkling water, which was brilliant! read more

Went for the Sunday brunch party and it was definitely a vibe! You feel like you're in a European country like Greece or Spain or something but it was a good time! I had the fruit plate, Caesar salad (yum) and steak and eggs. The steak left more to be desired, especially for the price but they exchanged my friend's steak for the burger and fries with no issues and the burger was good so that's a plus. I would go back for the atmosphere, Caesar salad and the burger and fries. read more

Recently dined at Barbouzard (1700 K St NW), the buzzy new spot channeling the effortless elegance of the French Riviera right in the heart of Washington, DC. Helmed by acclaimed Chef Cedric Maupillier, this place nails that sophisticated-yet-vibrant Mediterranean vibe--think plush seating, gilded accents, live music, and a menu that beautifully blends classic French refinement with coastal flavors from Provence to North Africa. The food was genuinely excellent. We started with the Onion Soup Gratinée (rich, cheesy perfection) and some Mini Tartelettes, then moved on to standout entrees like the Loup de Mer au Fenouil (perfectly grilled sea bass with fennel), Grilled Lamb Chops, Cassoulet, and a decadent Filet Mignon. The Jumbo Tiger Prawns were plump and flavorful, and the charcuterie touches (like Prosciutto di San Daniele) added that luxurious touch. Desserts, including the Mini Tartelettes, wrapped things up sweetly without feeling overly heavy. Everything was fresh, well-executed, and beautifully presented--definitely elevated fine dining without being stuffy. Service was a highlight too. Our server, Ezra, was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and kept the flow smooth for our group. The atmosphere felt special--candlelit, lively, and perfect for a celebratory night out. That said, one thing really soured the experience: the unexpected 4% operations fee tacked onto our nearly $900 subtotal (adding about $33). It showed up on the bill out of nowhere, with no clear mention on the physical menu we browsed or any verbal heads-up from the server before we ordered. While I understand restaurants face rising costs (especially post-Initiative 82 changes in DC), a spontaneous surcharge like this feels sneaky when it's not transparently disclosed upfront. It turned what should have been a seamless, high-end meal into a moment of frustration at the end. Overall, Barbouzard delivers on food quality, ambiance, and service--it's a welcome addition to downtown DC and worth trying if you're craving that Riviera flair. Just be prepared for the extra fee (it's noted on their website, but it wasn't obvious during our visit). I'd go back for the cuisine and vibe, but I'd appreciate more upfront transparency next time. Great spot, minus the surprise charge. read more

My wife and I had a terrific meal of cheese puff, salmon, chicken and two great deserts. Very well prepared food and very good way staff. And the menu prices were appropriate for the food quality, food quantity, service and ambience. The reason I don't give it five stars is that I was surprised with a 4% Operations Fee on my check. Why is this mandatory fee not highlighted on their website and menu? I was taken aback, and thus reduced my tip by the same 4%. It left a bad taste to me; not a great way to end a wonderful meal. read more

The hospitality was on point right from the door. The host team were incredibly warm, professional, and chic. Mark (our server) greeted us immediately with poise, made excellent recommendations, and the service was rather quick. We were only enjoying some shared plates and appetizers, but every dish was a knockout! The wine selection is on point, and all the wines are excellent food wines - so just point and order, you won't be disappointed. Each dish was purposeful and well thought, the combination of flavors will stay with you long after you depart, and you'll crave returning for more! If you are unfamiliar with Riviera French cuisine, the team are very knowledgeable and will guide you through the experience with clarity and grace. Must haves: Foie Gras Opera, Steak Tartare, Scallops a la Plancha, Hamachi Crudo - maybe the best I've ever had. BRAVO!!!! The ambiance is posh and elegant, lighting is a little bright but not garish - just a bit brighter than most restaurants but it comes off as warm and inviting. Music was a good volume, and I saw a DJ booth for late night reveling - definitely need to come back for that! Management were all over the dining room and were very interactive with guests in a conversational manner, not robotic or forced, just more and more hospitality from every angle. read more

I visited Barbouzard for lunch and was immediately impressed by the ambiance. The space is elegant and inviting, with a polished atmosphere that feels upscale yet comfortable. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and professional, which added a lot to the overall experience. The food, however, did not live up to the setting. I ordered the mixed greens, an Old Fashioned, the chicken, and coffee. The salad had a nice flavor, though a few brown pieces of lettuce took away from the freshness. The Old Fashioned was actually made very well--smooth and balanced--but the staff didn't quite understand my request for it "chilled," meaning served without ice. The chicken started off promising, with the first bite of the breast tasting delicious, but unfortunately the rest was undercooked. Cutting into it revealed blood, which was disappointing. My server was apologetic and offered to replace it, but I chose not to reorder. Perhaps chicken isn't their strongest dish. The standout item was the homemade sauce served with the fries and vegetables--it was flavorful and memorable. My sister ordered the linguine and also found it lacking. For a restaurant with such a refined atmosphere and excellent service, the food fell short of expectations. While I appreciated the ambiance and the staff's attentiveness, I wouldn't recommend Barbozzard based on this lunch experience and don't plan to return. read more

Beautiful restaurant and gracious FOH people but then things slowly went off the rails. Starting with drinks - we ordered from the list on the iPad but then a woman came over with a wine list and tried to give us other options. Except, her options were approximately 100% or more up charges. Next is the food, we ordered 4 appetizers and they all came out at the same time. There was barely enough room on the table to maneuver (see pictures). The escargot dish was a big let down, completely overcooked. The waiter never asked if the food was okay, instead, he was more focused on pouring the sparkling wine into our glasses even when the glasses were still half full. At that point, I decided to cut my losses and skipped the main course. We got our dessert and left. read more

Stopped by for lunch, had a wonderful dining experience. They have a nice prix-fixe 2 or 3 course lunch offering, with 3 options for each course. The space is very pretty, and excellent attentive service. The food was delicious, starting from the bread service all the way through the bread pudding. Will definitely return to try additional plates. Good pacing on courses, did not feel rushed at all. We walked out after finishing lunch and the first thing we both said was "We need to come back here for dinner"! lol read more

Barbouzard idelivers excellent food and a warm, stylish ambiance; the kind of place you want to linger. With a few tweaks to pacing and attentiveness, it could be an easy five. The kitchen is the star. Every plate felt thoughtful and balanced, with vibrant flavors, careful seasoning, and beautiful presentation. Sauces were silky and purposeful, vegetables had real character, and proteins were cooked with precision. Portions were generous without being heavy, and the menu shows a clear confidence--comforting at first bite, but layered enough to stay interesting through the last. The space hits that sweet spot of upscale-casual: soft lighting, comfortable seating, and a soundtrack that complements conversation instead of competing with it. It's lively without being loud, and the room has an inviting flow that makes date night, celebrations, or a long catch-up feel equally at home. The team is friendly and efficient, and courses arrived with great timing. That said, the experience would be even better if staff didn't **frequently interrupt conversations and if they weren't quite so eager to clear plates and glasses that guests are clearly still enjoying. A touch more "read-the-table" restraint would let the ambiance shine. Barbouzard is absolutely worth a visit for its top-tier cooking and welcoming vibe. With slightly more mindful service pacing, it would be a flawless night out. I'll be back and I'll plan to linger over those last bites. read more

Loved the food and I had the best smoked old-fashioned. The service was very good as well. Ambiance wise, it was busy and it was a Saturday, but they didn't have a problem delivering the best. read more

Food was good, but not outstanding. Caesar salad cut too small and too much dressing. Squid needed one more minute on the grill. Onion soup a bit bland. Cheese salad needed more chick pea to balance the richness. Service was a bit lax:soup was delivered without a spoon and we had to flag down servers for that as well as water refills. read more

Barbouzard delivers one of the most refined and authentic French dining experiences I've had anywhere in the U.S. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt like a chic Parisian bistro--elegant but warm, with impeccable service that made us feel instantly welcome. Every course was extraordinary. The escargot was rich and perfectly balanced with garlic and butter, the duck confit melted off the bone, and the sauces were classic French perfection--deep, layered, and beautifully presented. Even the bread service was exceptional, and the dessert (a silky crème brûlée) was the perfect finish. What really stood out was the attention to detail--every plate looked like art, every flavor precise. The staff clearly takes pride in both the food and the experience. Whether you're a Francophile or just love outstanding cuisine, Barbouzard is a must-visit in DC. A true gem for anyone who appreciates the craft of French cooking. read more

We celebrated a special birthday here and the six of us all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the Cassoulet and loved every component. The white bean stew really anchored the dish and the duck was cooked to perfection. Two of our party each ordered the Bouillabaisse at the suggestion of our incredibly knowledgeable and personable server, Gloria. They both loved it! The salmon, branzino, and braised beef were also big hits with the rest of the table. Before dinner, we all enjoyed the panisse & scallion (my favorite), the escargot, and a few other hors d'oeuvres. Dessert was shared as well, a crème brûlée, a Grand Marnier souflé, and an assortment of ice cream/sorbets. The lime basil sorbet was my personal favorite. It was the perfect refreshing and sweet, but not heavy choice after enjoying the cassoulet. Much thanks to Gloria for her suggestions and attention to detail! read more

I had lunch here, eager to try one of DC's newest French restaurants, and I was pretty let down by the experience. Barbouzard gives you the option for an "Express Lunch," which comes with either two or three courses (appetizer/entree/dessert). I chose the three-course express lunch with the mixed greens salad, cheeseburger and ice cream/sorbet. The mixed greens salad was decent, and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. This is about what you'd expect from a salad at a nice French restaurant. The burger was a MESS. This might have been the worst burger I have eaten in DC. I feel kind of awful saying that, because this is a fancy restaurant and I'm ranking it below places like Five Guys and Shake Shack...but the burger really was that bad. Every time I took a bite, the burger was absolutely DRIPPING with sauce. Sauce leaked down on the plate, it got all over my hands...the cloth napkin was barely adequate to clean all the sauce from my hands and mouth. Why in the world would they put this much sauce on a burger? The bartender (I sat at the bar) even acknowledged that the burger was kind of messy to eat. The portion size was good, no complaints there, but the burger just wasn't very tasty. I could sort of discern that the meat was overcooked, but honestly, I could barely taste the meat to begin with, because the sauce overpowered all of the other ingredients. So at this point I was pretty stuffed--really, the portion sizes here are very filling--and I wasn't going to finish the burger, so I asked the bartender if I could switch my three-course "Express Lunch" to the two-course "Express Lunch" and skip dessert. The bartender said that should be fine, since he had not yet sent the ice cream order to the kitchen. A few minutes later, he returned and said that the manager denied his request, and I would have to pay for the three-course lunch, even though the dessert order had not yet been sent to the kitchen. So that kind of sucked. Oh well. What's really baffling to me about this whole experience is that this is a brand new, high-end restaurant, near the White House, and so you'd expect the food and the service to be impeccable. I'm not sure what went wrong here. The bartender was great, but every other part of the experience was just kind of a letdown. I wish my meal here had been better. read more

The level of Service is second to none! Try the Foi Gras Tiramisu! The lamb chops were so tender, you didn't need a knife . D'Or that matter you didn't need one for the Steak! From beginning to end, it was a very memorable evening! Will definitely be back ! read more

The moment you walk in, you feel transported to the South of France: elegant design, beautiful lighting, and a lively, upscale crowd. The food is phenomenal -- from the seafood tower and bouillabaisse to the signature "Caviamisu" dessert -- every dish feels luxurious and perfectly executed. The cocktails (especially the Caviar Martini) are creative and refined. But the real standout is their Sunday Party Brunch -- hands down one of the most fun brunch experiences in the city. Think incredible music, amazing energy, champagne flowing, and people actually dancing by the end. It's part restaurant, part celebration, and entirely unforgettable. Service was on point, the vibe was electric, and the entire experience felt like a weekend in Saint-Tropez without leaving D.C. I can't recommend Barbouzard enough -- for dinner, drinks, or that unforgettable Sunday brunch. read more

Had such a great time here! The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully plated (best bouillabaisse this side of the pond!), and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The whole place has a fun, stylish vibe that makes you want to stay all night. Went for restaurant week lunch. Great experience and good value for the money. They already have a pre-fix lunch and it was nice to see they added more dishes for restaurant week. I had onion soup and the crepes. Onion soup excellent. Perfect bistro execution. When I asked how it was the waiter said very good , maybe a bit cheesy for his taste. Not for mine. Ooh la la the fabulous cheese. Crepes were excellent. Savory and filling. Nice portion size. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Super flavorful but very sweet. I'm not supposed to eat sugar but couldn't resist as it was part of the deal. I look forward to trying dinner. And to enjoying the lunch pre-five again if I'm in that part of DC for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful, but the k st location is a bit past its hey day. I like the restaurant is fancy but not stuffy. I'm very happy to see Chef Cedric back in. Restaurant. This place is a real gem! You feel welcome from the moment you come in. The atmosphere is relaxed but classy. "Côté cuisine", the menu speaks for itself. The classics of Mediterranean cuisines are elevated to perfection. From the classic Fruits de mer, the freshest I have tried in DC yet ; to the celebration of the sun-gorged vegetables in multiple options; poivrons marinés, burrata and halloumi and other excellent hors d'œuvres. Naturally, if you want to dive in the upscale French bistro fares, the steak tartare, the escargots, the gougères... all crafted to enhance texture and flavor. I think the octopus with chorizo is another very well executed dish and yet another halt on the tour of various Mediterranean countries. The chef seems to know inside and out the various staples of those coasts. The pasta offerings are designed to please every palate. The entrées, the desserts blend tradition and creativity with a keen eye for presentation. The staff was very attentive and the sommelier suggested on point pairings. I already said too much. Simply go while the wait list is not too long. Enjoy the voyage! read more

The finale was the Poire Belle Michele and Caviamisu, YOU MUST have these amazing dishes!!!! Hats off to Chef Cedric and his team. We had the amazing opportunity to enjoy the late night vibe as well. I wanted to like it! But it was really loud and our waiter made a number of mistakes, including serving a real beer when my friend ordered the non-alcoholic variety. Plus, the food was pretty meh. Three of us shared 3 appetizers and 3 mains and a dessert. We had potato cod dip, crab and caviar tarts and gougeres. Mostly tasteless - even the caviar! We also had veggie bolognese, rabbit pasta and bouillabaisse. The bouillabaisse was really good. The pasta dishes were just OK. We had the choco-pear dessert. The pear inside tasted canned. Ewww. All-in an expensive disappointment. Bring back Convivial!! read more
