Extremely friendly service! Adorable Asian fusion bakery. The egg and cheese was flavorful and lighter than it looks. I would definitely go for the banana latte and the banana cinnamon cookies! This isn't your typical bakery everything was a experience enjoyable. The line goes quickly and your served immediately.
I have had mixed experiences with Rose Ave Bakery. My first visit was great. I had a great iced tea and the Thai curry bread was awesome. Although it was crowded, I still managed to find seating with my parents and had a pleasurable cafe experience. My most recent experience was less than ideal. Although all the pastries were there, the early gray matcha missed the mark and I ended up not feeling well after my visit. Not sure if this was due to something else, but I am still a big fan of the bakery and will have to come back (hopefully 100% healthy throughout my time)
Unfortunately for my bank account, Rose Ave was a weekly treat for me during my month in DC. I tried so many of their pastries (pandan coconut, pomegranate & passionfruit donuts, salt bread, ube cheese kouign-amann, garlic scallion bun, curry butternut squash tart, black sesame cookie) and drinks (Saigon banana latte, mango matcha, miso caramel cold foam matcha) here, and they all hit because the execution of the fusion is perfection (strong flavors, well-done foundation, creative combinations). Surprisingly, my favorites were their savory pastries. Service is fast and friendly. Ambiance is nice: there's outdoor and indoor seating, but it's usually packed. It's right off the Woodley Park/AdMo metro stop so very accessible. 10/10 would recommend!

The only downside is that I cant enjoy other bakeries as much as my standards are now infinitely lifted. Visited Rose Ave Bakery in DC on a busy weekend after a friend recommended it, and we ended up waiting in line--which was worth it. The space is a pretty cute, modern café with cherry blossom décor and a great mix of sweet and savory pastries. We honestly tried almost everything Garlic Scallion Bun - Soft, lightly toasted with just the right crunch. Inspired by a Taiwanese garlic bun, it was super easy to eat and one of my favorites (9/10). Matcha Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - A rectangular croissant absolutely loaded with matcha and chocolate, topped with matcha powder. It was almost a bit too heavy on the matcha for me, and the bitterness overpowered the chocolate. Banana Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - Banana cream on top with banana chocolate inside. Pretty straightforward--tasted exactly like what you'd expect from a banana chocolate croissant. Ube Cheese Kouign Amann - Unique sweet-and-savory combo. The ube adds a subtle sweetness while the cheese gives it a creamy balance. Rich and slightly dense, and I just wished there was a bit more filling to balance the pastry. Miso Garlic Salted Bread - One of my top picks. Savory, buttery, and paired with a slightly sweet brioche-like base that balances everything really well. Elote Bread - Corn-topped savory bread with a nice sweetness and texture. This and the miso garlic bread were tied for my favorites. Strawberry Passionfruit Kouign Amann - Fruity and rich, but a bit filling overall. I just wished there was more filling to balance the pastry. Sugared Donut - Simple and classic, just a soft, sugary donut done right. Drinks: * Strawberry Matcha & Mango Matcha - Both layer fruit puree with matcha, but the flavors stay quite separate rather than blending together. * Vietnamese Coffee with Cold Foam - Strong coffee base with strawberry-flavored cold foam. It's pretty sweet overall with less of a coffee-forward taste, but still smooth and enjoyable. * White Mocha Latte - More coffee-forward compared to the sweeter drinks, which I actually preferred. Overall, I loved my visit--great spot for both savory and sweet pastries with creative flavor combinations and a lot to try. I definitely preferred the savory items over sweet here particularly the garlic scallion bun!
Rose Ave Bakery has been on my radar since early this year! I finally made it to DC this weekend and this was naturally our first stop. They are open until 1 PM on Saturdays, we reached at around 11:30 AM and I was half hoping for them to be out of most items. Fortunately, even though they were super packed, we were able to find all of the items we were looking for - thanks to the hard working staff as they continue to make their pastries until closing - unlike so many other bakeries these days that make a certain amount and call it a day! Now to the food, everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! I am not a donut person but I loved theirs as they were very flavorful and weren't too sweet. I definitely prefer their Ube and Pandan over the Black sesame donut. The Matcha chocolate croissant and the Ube Kouign Amann were my favorites of the bunch! I cannot recommend them enough, this will surely be my first stop every time I am in DC!
New seasonal pastries = new Rose Ave visit! I had to try the crab rangoon croissant and the guava donut. The crab rangoon was fabulous - great texture, filling, flavorful, everything I wanted! The guava was good but a little bland - I would have liked a stronger guava flavor, and it was very small for the price. However, it was still a great visit overall and I adopted the crab rangoon!
Rose Ave Bakery is the best bakery I've ever been to! They have a huge selection of Asian inspired pastries, with really unique and complex offerings. I tried 5 of their pastries - the butternut squash curry one, miso honey garlic salt bread (my favorite!), elote, mochi donut holes, and ube kouign amann. They were all great, with the butternut squash and miso garlic honey ones being the standouts. There was a line out the door the whole time we were there, but it moved fairly quickly. There is limited seating with limited space due to the large line. I would absolutely return. This place is seriously so awesome!
The pastries are so good you kind of feel bad eating them bc you know every bite is closer to being finished! I tasted 4 treats - and all rocked my flavor buds! The black sesame cookie - the black sesame donut - the black sesame super crazy stuffed croissant (notice a theme?) and the passion fruit donut. Stunning. Delicious. Friendly. Gorgeous aesthetic. Cool vibe. I will be back again and again.
Rose Ave has a line going out the door. I had to check this place out. Interior is very instagrammable. Customer service was great. I got their egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and their saigon cinnamon banana latte. This was delicious. I have never had a banana latte before. I would say it's worth trying. But the breakfast sandwich was flavorless. I would skip that completely.
Such a spacious and beautiful bakery--plenty of seatings. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Saigon Banana Latte and it was really good with truly having the banana flavor shine through. For bakery goods I ordered the Pandan Coconut Sticky Rice and it is phenomenal. Satisfies my Pandan craving and love the "chè" texture that this dessert gives. I also got the Strawberry Passionfruit Cake slice and it was amazing. The cake icing was really good as it just complimented the cake and did not overpower being too sweet.
We ordered six pastries My favorites were the s'mores croissant and the corn chili elote donut which says a lot because I'm usually not into donuts or s'mores-flavored desserts. The donuts themselves were light and perfectly sugared, but I did wish there was a bit more filling overall. The corn chili elote donut had the most toppings by far, which is probably why it ended up being my favorite. The s'mores croissant was a standout the chocolate filling was more of a pudding-like texture and paired perfectly with my morning coffee. Flavor-wise, they really nailed it. I just wish there was a more generous filling-to-dough ratio!

I have been wanting to come here for years and it lived up to the hype. I came around noon on a Saturday and while there was a line out the door, I didn't wait more than 10 minutes from start to order. They have all the desserts out on display and they have you order there and order coffee at the register to be more efficient. Some indoor seating but no real outdoor seating, and one restroom. I went with the simple passion fruit donut and the ube latte. The donut was a perfect mix of sweet and sour, not overpoweringly so and the donut was so soft I practically inhaled it. The coffee was quite nice too, not too sweet or acidic tasting and was a perfect combination of flavors. I would love to come back and try some more pastries, as the crab rangoon pastry caught my eye. Friendly service- dont let the line deter you too much! read more

My friend loves to bring me goodies to try out from the city when they visit and this was such a welcomed treat ! I can't speak to the service or location much because I didn't go. It must be said that I received the items cold and tasted them cold and reheated. Matcha Chocolate Twice Baked croissant - 6/10 - this rating is about my personal taste, not the quality of the croissant. I'm sure this is a matcha lovers dream and I was impressed by how much filling was in the croissant, especially considering the filling didn't affect the texture of the bread. This was good cold but even better reheated. Bread still had a crunch and the filling consistency was great, but again just not my thing. Strawberry milk - 10/10 - can I curse real quick ? £#%K this was delicious. I could put this filling on just about anything and be satisfied. It was rich but not overly sweet and paired really well with the pastry. I do not know how they manage to have the pastry keep its shape with the amount of filling they're putting inside but I appreciate it. The pastry has a great bite to it and the pearls and frosting adding a slight contrast to the texture was needed because too much of one texture creeps me out. I took a look at their menu and absolutely want to try their cookies the mango sweet tart, and the Ube Cheese Kouign Amann so I will be back ! read more

Ordered the banana croissant and the Ensaymada for pastries. We also had the guava refresher and the passion fruit one. All items tasted great. Both drinks were refreshing. Great customer service and a nice space to sit down both indoor and outdoor. read more

Food The scallion bun was really good. Nice and flaky, but a bit messy so be prepared. The focaccia I would not get again, it was just okay. Nothing really flavorful and a bit more dense than I was expecting it. The standout continues to be the black sesame cookie, nice and nutty and balanced with the sugar cookie base. Service Fast and they know how to keep the line moving. Granted we were there right when it opened and even when the line is busy they make sure that you are never waiting too long. Ambiance Plenty of tables to hang out at. During peak times you may be waiting for somewhere to sit, but people move and are respectful to know when to leave. read more
I love the pastries here!! The passionfruit donut is my favorite- so fluffy and delicious! The passionfruit cream is tart and sweet - the perfect combo. They have seating indoors, but not too many since it is in DC. Street parking isn't too bad, and I can usually find a spot within a 5 min walk. read more

NOT TO BE DRAMATIC BUT THIS CROISSANT WAS LIFE CHANGING... FINALLY CHECKED @ROSEAVEBAKERY OFF THE FOODIE TO-DO LIST, AND IT'S SAFE TO SAY I'LL BE RETURNING - phenomenal vietnamese iced coffee (only regret is that I didn't get a larger one) - chocolate matcha croissant; all for ~$13 the line was long, but the time passed quickly and their pastry display was fully stocked --- I was able to snag a seat to myself too! read more
A short walk away from the zoo and right in front of the metro: this Asian inspired bakery has the fluffiest doughnuts filled with perfectly sweetened cream! No pastry stood out to me yet but the quality put into each bread is definitely notable! Everything we tried was delicious! Rose Ave has such a light and airy vibe--both the space and the food. Every dish felt rich and flavorful without being over the top. Highlights for us were the lox focaccia (perfectly balanced and fresh) and the ube donut--a total standout. My husband couldn't stop raving about the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant too. Highly recommend coming hungry so you can try a little bit of everything--and plan to take some home for later! Bonus points for offering a discount to furloughed federal workers, which is such a thoughtful touch. read more

This is the spot for a lovely little breakfast before you hit the zoo, hillwood estate, or to even just chill and taking the views in the day. I am an absolute fan of the scallion bun sandwich. You can't go wrong. It is both salty with the right of mount of just texture and it's just perfect for a breakfast sandwich. I always pair my salty with a little sweet and indulge and a yummy doughnut. This time I decided to add on a another treat and got their seasonal favorite of their crab Rangoon. It was a very interesting delight. You honestly can't go wrong with anything here. They have a full Service coffee bar as well with some fun options to choose from apart from your standard selection. The one thing I will warn you is that you definitely want to get here early as the line can be quite long and it can get quite busy within the restaurant. So if you're looking to have a table and sit at the restaurant or inside, I definitely recommend getting there early. Other than that, if you plan to take away, you should be fine. read more

Rose Ave bakery has delicious sweet and savory pastries, all with unique Asian-inspired flavors. I preordered a birthday cake (strawberry with passion fruit curd) online and got some pastries during pick up, and they were all amazing. The line can be long on the weekend, but it moves pretty fast. However, your wait can easily double if you ordered a drink. While there is no convenient parking, it is near the metro and the Smithsonian zoo. read more

The cutest little bakery in NW DC. I was intentional about visiting Rose Avenue Bakery since I rarely visit Woodley Park. The atmosphere was light, and fun. The service was amazing, and everyone was very helpful when my friend and I asked for recommendations. For our savory options, we ordered the Scallion, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich which was delicious. The Scallion added a nice flavor to a traditional egg and cheese. The Passion Fruit and Pandan Coconut donuts did not disappoint as our sweet options. I also tried the hot Rose Latte with oat milk which was very good. Street parking can be challenging depending on the day that you visit, and get there early because there's almost always a line which I love for this Asian woman owned bakery. Will definitely visit again soon. read more

Underwhelming experience after too much hype? By the time I tried to go to the cafe and buy something it was late enough that most of the sweet treats were sold out. I had their Saigon Cinnamon Banana Cookie, it was okay? More of a soft cookie than chewy, really faint banana flavor, too buttery (felt greasy and not worth the calories) not much cinnamon on it... I regret not ordering the Black Sesame. read more
Totally worth the hype and my favorite bakery in DC. I got a box of goodies - everything was good and the Ube and Pandan donuts and Thai Curry Tart were the highlights! The fluffy donuts taste like beignets with cinnamon sugar coating, the Pandan has a sweet coconutty flavor while the Ube tastes like a subtle vanilla custard. The Black Sesame donut had an interesting flavor and reminded me of an everything bagel. The Ube Cheese Kouign Aman was flavorful and decadent. The Thai Curry Tart was bursting with flavor and the savory Garlic Scallion Bun was soft and fluffy. The ambiance is really nice and the service was just as sweet as the goodies. Rose Ave is a local bakery and coffee shop. It has what I'd call a contemporary menu with lots of matcha donuts and drinks. You cue up in front of the display to order. I ordered the Thai Curry Tart. It was delicious - sorry, I forgot the photo again. The place is light and clean. Not much in the way of parking btw. read more
Tried some pastries at Rose Ave. Upon entering the space I was greeted by floral interior. Definitely a nice touch. The pastries were the center piece. I immediately zero'd in on the donuts. One was taro and the other sesame. Ultimately, the donuts were just ok. The fillings weren't flavorful as I hoped and not fresh. Though my experience wasn't optimal, I'd recommend to try as your experience may differ. read more
My husband and I go to a lot of bakeries. For a while we ran an IG called planes, trains, and pastries. Rose Ave is in both of our top 5 bakeries. And since I now work from DC twice a month I get to sample a wide range of their products. Let's start with the best things I've had: the curry squash tart, the mango curd and basil donut, the pumpkin and cream cheese kouign amann. All so good they make you want to get back in line and order another. These are pastries that live rent free in my head. Everything else is still better than what you can get almost anywhere, but those are my standouts. Even my local DC friends have slept on this gem in Adams Morgan - so if that is you, you should make a trip soon. Especially for the fall treats. read more
We were in the area and this spot popped up and the unique selections drew us in. Smaller, cozy cafe mixed into a row of shops on the avenue. We ordered some of the normal breakfast offerings but also wanted to try ones that you couldn't find everywhere. Coco Berry Basil-not your everyday Donut-pricey and worth a try given the mix of flavors that you won't find at your local Donut spot-we loved it! Matcha Chocolate Chip cookie-again, not your everyday cookie and delicious, Crab Rangoon Tart-flaky pastry filled with Crab mixture hit the spot. Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich and their Cappucino were tasty. Friendly and engaged people behind the counter were helpful with questions. If in the area, make this stop for their out of the ordinary savory and sweet treats! read more
