I enjoyed my meal and experience here! Came here after a con and it was very easy to be seated on a Sunday night. Apparently, it was their 30th anniversary too, so that was fun to celebrate. The waiters were very attentive with waters, clean up, and following up with our dishes. Although, I could tell they were trying to upsell me every time I tried to order something, which I rather not deal with for most dining occasions. Place is cozy with some Italian decor and Italian music playing. Everything was pretty good in my opinion; can't say that I can choose which course was my favourite! We had the duck prosciutto as an appetizer, which was a special. It was delicious with the cooked duck taste, alongside the toast with very vibrant jam. My vongole pasta was good too; I do like pasta more on the firmer side, which it was. It tasted great with the calm, garlic, and olive oil - simple, yet tasty. The tiramisu itself was fine, but I believe it was enhanced even more with the sauces and cookie bit on the top; the cookie bit was too good. OK it's time for another update on my love affair with Al Tiramisu! Tonight was no different than all the other nights I have eaten dinner there. It was perfect! The atmosphere? Warm and inviting on a cold February night. The service? Professional, friendly and efficient. The food? Excellent and unique, even a dish that could be mundane like chicken breast. Honestly, how - after 66 years on this earth and countless chicken breasts consumed - can I rave about a chicken breast??? But the chicken breast at Al Tiramisu is different. The presentation was beautiful - sliced and then arranged back together like the chef was Michelangelo himself. The small amount of juice around the chicken was excellent - butter and salt and rosemary and a veritable symphony of umami flavors! Divine! The lobster bisque is like no other I have ever had in my entire life and I go back and forth to Maine several times every year! But I have never eaten lobster bisque as smooth, as liquid-gold as this with so much banging flavor!!! Every spoonful exploded in my mouth. Al Tiramisu was suggested to us our first evening in D.C. There are about fifty total seats, (two, four, and a couple group tables) so a reservation is needed. We had the burrata and a special negroni to start. The burrata was full of flavor, but the negroni... My wife said it was the best she has ever tasted. I had the special mushroom risotto. My wife had the rosemary chicken. I have had many dishes of risotto, but never so tasty. Numerous tastes graced my palate, (fresh mushrooms, cheese, the perfectly prepared rice). My wife loved the chicken. She said the creamy mashed potatoes were the best she has ever had. I am impressed how many times the words best ever came up during this amazing meal. read more

**my fancy post-marine corps marathon celebration meal** my running buddy in the bay area highly recommended this italian restaurant to me. the only downside was that it would be a bit of a trek from where my parents live and we'd likely have to take metro. i made a reservation at noon, but dad was running late from an appt, so we ended up driving into the city for fear of missing our reservation. in the meantime, i bumped it to 1230. while the drive itself wasn't bad, finding parking was quite the challenge. i bumped it again to 1245 as i circled around, trying to locate a garage with an open spot. what a relief when we finally found a spot to park...but at that hour, i could no longer bump my reservation, so we had to chance, it hoping they would still seat us. upon arrival at a cute little brownstone, we were greeted with a warm friendly greeting by the hostess who said "you made it" and reassured us that the kitchen was still open and that we were welcome to dine with them. phew! we were actually the only party on a tuesday, so it was great, we had the staff's complete attention! well, for about 30-45 minutes before another party joined. for the day's seafood specials, we were brought an entire wooden plank of fresh fish, at least 5 to choose from, which our waiter explained to us in fine detail. it was so hard to choose! but dad chose the dorade and i chose the sea bass. mom chose a gluten free pasta. we ordered a soup and salad appetizer to start. +bread: the basket came with warm focaccia and sourdough bread, with olive oil and mashed capers to dip into. this was yummy, and i really liked the play on the traditional olive oil. +fennel salad: i've never had this before, but the fennel was shaved into fine thin swirls so that it appeared like fettucine! the dressing was a mix of lemon and vinegar, and garnished with orange, grapefruit and black olives. amazing blend of fresh veggies! my favourite starter! +broccoli soup: this was broccoli pureed, garnished with olive oil and bread crumbs, a perfect velvetty smooth soup! should have gotten a second since dad devoured most of it before i could have a taste! +gluten-free pasta: homemade penne with a mix of wild mushrooms, herbs and olive oil. this was so delicious and the texture was superb, i could not tell this was gluten-free! +sea bass: i didn't want the potatoes so they gave me extra brussels sprouts, my favourite roasted vegetable! the brussels did not disappoint (i need to learn how to make them so roasted and crispy!) and the fish was delicately grilled, with light olive oil, with a lemon wrapped up in gauze so i could drizzle some tart flavour onto the fish. it was so fresh i could truly taste each bite! +dorade: did not try, but dad was very happy with his fish, brussels sprouts and chopped potatoes. besides the superb quality of food, the company was just fantastic. upon learning that i had just ran the marine corps marathon, the hostess let us know that the chef himself was a runner and that runners, especially those in town for the marine corps, all flocked to his restaurant for pre-race carbo-loading or a post-race celebratory meal. i'm grateful that i had the chance to experience chef luigi's culinary creations and can't wait to come back the next time i'm in town! read more

I booked a table for two via Open Table last weekend during our staycation in Dupont Circle! We had such an amazing dinner. I can't believe I didn't know about this place before. I hesitate to rate this restaurant since it will be crazy if more people come, but it's too good to not say anything. The pasta here is number one. Most are amazing. The mushroom laganelle (very amazing vegetarian), the veal fettuccine is also a meaty option, and the clam pasta is nice and light while being fulfilling. There are so many more, but we'd be here all day if I had to list them all. One of the most amazing ones is the truffle pasta, which is available in winter. The mushroom risotto is also a stellar hit. For meatier options, their steak is well done. Cooked expertly to a nice rare or medium rare, with simple seasonings but a perfect char. Branzino is a nice fish option as someone who dislikes fish. The branzino is flaky and buttery and the accompanying vegetables go well. The servers and the front of house and the chef are always so kind and sweet. Service is lovely and attentive. We have been before but quality has gone down hill. Other better quality places for the price point. Service was nice and it's a quaint place but the food just didn't measure up. Went two years ago and it was better but not great back then but thought we would give it another shot. We paid 240 with taxes and tip for dinner of 4- no alcohol and just 4 entrees (2 pastas, 1 calamari, a chicken dish), one expresso, one cheesecake sice and a coke) . They also charge 3 % credit card fee which is kind of ridiculous with their high prices already. The seafood ravioli in lobster sauce was salty ad for 42 dollars, not stuffed very much. The calamari entree had 5 calamari's, 3 zuccini slices and 3 carrot slices for $32 dollars. Cheesecake was crumbly and not smooth but flavor was good. We enjoyed the service and bread but just would not come back again . read more

Full disclosure: this is less a review than a love letter. For over ten years, Al Tiramisu has been my favorite restaurant -- not just in DC, but anywhere -- and so much more. It's where I have celebrated some of my happiest moments, and where I have found fellowship in times of uncertainty. The people who run it -- from the owner/chef, Luigi, to the longtime manager, Nagia, to the servers and kitchen staff -- are warm, generous, engaging, and passionate about the food they make and the service they deliver. The food itself is simply exceptional. I have tried everything on the regular menu and nearly all of the rotating specials -- always in season. There are no misses at Al Tiramisu, only hard choices. Rather than attempting to catalogue their many outstanding offerings -- a seemingly impossible task -- I will tell you what I recommend now. And I will endeavor to update this review regularly. In June 2025, you should try the taglierini with pesto and the mixed green salad with beets, roasted walnuts, and crumbled goat cheese . The pesto -- light, flavorful, verdant -- is a thing of beauty. I eagerly anticipate its return every summer. In summary: if you love Italian food, you should go here. If you value highly considerate, professional service in an intimate setting, you should go here. If you are in town for the night and want to tell your friends back home that you ate at one of the best restaurants in DC, you should go here. Al Tiramisu is an old stalwart of the DC dining scene, and I think it's a very good restaurant, but you might in for some sticker shock. We were a party of four, and we started with cocktails (about $20 each, all very good). For appetizer, we each had an off-menu sampler which had delicious house-smoked duck, grilled calamari, rolled eggplant, and piece of a portobello mushroom, and a wedge of burrata. I loved everything except for the mushroom which was a bit blah. It was a yummy start, but at $25 a head, felt about $10/portion more than it should have been. We found a good bottle of red wine for $120, which was one of the cheaper bottles on the wine list. While not mentioned on the menu, all the pastas are available as half portions which was a pleasant surprise. I absolutely loved my tagliatelle with wild mushrooms; it was fantastic. So was the ricotta gnocchi in cacio e pepe - pillowy, rich, and divine. The lobster pasta, a signature dish, was good but perhaps not a showstopper. Also enjoyed by our table was a delightful ravioli with crab meat. Our "secondi" were the weakest part of the meal. I loved my lamb shank ossobuco which, if anything, was too big, but it was delicious with its creamy polenta and stewed tomato sauce. The ribeye steak, however, was overwhelmed by the truffle butter and not as buttery and tender as was hoped for the price ($48). The branzino was perfectly nice, but could have had a bit more flair. Desserts were awesome. Creamy pistachio gelato, chocolate tartufo, and cheesecake...all very nice. All in all, $850 with tax and tip...mighty pricey for dinner for four. I had a similarly good meal in a very upmarket Milan restaurant last month for about a third of the price. Yes, I know we aren't in Italy, but even by DC standards, this very good restaurant just didn't exactly feel like it was worth every penny. read more

We arrived for an early dinner after a show at the Kennedy Center, the place had just opened but we were greeted right away. We were taken to our table and helped with water right away. When you walk in it has the style of an old small Italian restaurant in NYC. The wall of pictures of famous people eating there hits you right away and has some cool pictures of movie stars. Kinda fun display. Once seated they took our drink order and I went with an old fashioned, shocker lol. I asked for it to be less sweet and it hit the spot. Just enough bitters to cut the sweetness. Also love the full size cocktail ice cube. We then received a very well explained fresh fish of the day presentation. For an appetizer we ordered burrata which came with local honey and truffle "bits". It was very good, extra moist and the add ons were great. The local honey had some salt and spices mixed in which was a great surprise. My entree was the veal fettuccine, the pasta was house made and fresh. The pasta was great and the souse was even better. The ground veal popped with flavor adding a richness to the dish. The sauce was a red sauce like marinara based with a touch of sweetness. Dessert was on its way and we shared mascarpone cheesecake and the, you guessed it, tiramisu. The tiramisu was very good, the flavors were good but I was missing more of the rum flavor. The texture of the top was slightly off, still good but not the best I've had. The cheesecake was very different and good in its own right. It's much lighter than normal cheesecake and had great flavor. It was a little dry so adding a side spice could have helped this dish. We stopped in here to get dessert, this is a nice little local Italian spot. You feel like you are dining in somebody's kitchen as it feels very homey. The service was great we got seated right away. They have a nice little patio outside with a couple of tables. We got an order of their cheesecake it was very delicious and filling. I almost always have a great time here. It looks like a little hole in the wall but it's home to some of the best Italian pasta in DC. They have daily specials and I've never had a bad dish here. The reason I have deducted a star is because the last two times I visited, I felt as though the waiter wasn't being the most friendly and because last time, my date ordered the veal the waiter recommended but received the lobster linguine instead. We didn't want to cause a fuss since the restaurant had been so kind to fit us in last minute, but it was a different level of service than what I had previously encountered. Am more than willing to come back and give it another try! Hopefully it was just because they were busy and not indicative of a more negative trend. Now onto the food - one of my photos features a ravioli stuffed with mozzarella and topped with shaved truffles. I hope they make this a menu item because it was creamy, and absolutely delicious. We ended up eating all the sauce too but soaking it up with our bread. The beef carpaccio is fresh and the lemon and salad add a brightness to the savory beef. The food was OK (just OK) -- but the maitre'd actually came up to us at our table, at 9:15 pm, and asked us to leave the restaurant because they wanted to close. We were still in conversation, with a half-glass of wine on the table, but we were the last and only guests in the restaurant and 9:15. I couldn't believe we were asked to leave, at 9:15, but the maitre de began talking about the "experience" in DC now, National Guard, etc. there were none visible outside). Was told George Clooney frequents this place. Now I know why. The menu isn't expansive but it sure is delicious. We tried the buratta cheese and the beef carpaccio to start. Amazing flavors. Dinner was salmon - this was the best we have had. Cooked to perfection and outstanding flavors. The risotto was tender and filled with mushroom flavors. The tortellini with goat cheese and eggplant was a nice combination. For dessert the tiramisu was great. The chocolate cake used almond flour which made it a little gritty but it was a nice dark chocolate flavor. The service was impressive. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. Al Tiramisu is an excellent Italian place we ate at while visiting Washington DC. We did not have reservations, but we were able to eat outside (which was really nice). They have a nice wine list, we had an Italian red. We started with the burrata and the calamari. Both were outstanding. The burrata was prepared just perfect and the honey and truffle bits were the perfect accompaniment to cheese. The calamari was prepared unusually. It was grilled thin and put on a skewer. They tasted great and the presentation was really good. For the main dish, I had one of the specials which was a lobster and spaghetti. This was fantastic. They lobster was nice and fresh, with a good chunks of lobster. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was excellent. I also tried the chicken that was moist and delicious and the gnocchi which was nice with great flavor. Unfortunately we were stuffed and did not have dessert, but this is definitely worth a visit. read more

The price was on the higher end, but not exorbitant like some of other Michelin restaurants. The food was good and much better than I remembered. The presentation was nice. Ok people let me tell you about this incredible place to be at anytime and for any occasions . Privately owned and definitely quintessential service. So I call to say I wanted to order and the owner picked up and told me the restaurant was closed and will open at five. However the owner picked up my call at 4;00 PM and asked what did I need to order this alone was enough for me. I stumbled upon Al Tiramisu after attending an event at the Phillips Museum and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious although it was a little bit in the pricier side. I had the lobster linguine special which was flavorful and full of lobster pieces! I tried the other dishes, which were all good. My Kir Royal was not on the menu but came as a recommendation by the waiter (I like sweeter drinks which weren't on the menu). Authentic Italian restaurant with al dente pasta tucked in a cozy row home. My hubby and I dropped $200 on a wonderful dinner and it was well worth every penny! The Papperdelle mushroom pasta, chestnut soup, housemade limoncello, and Chianti were the highlights. Ravioli Di Caciocavallo Podolico E Foglie Di Bietola in Burro E Salvia (4/5) - Ravioli stuffed with burrata in butter sage sauce is a simple dish which my hubby thoroughly enjoyed, while I preferred the Papperdelle. Sfalde Di Salmone Con Salsa All'arancia (5/5) - My hubby enjoyed the fresh fish. Tiramisu (3/5) - Doesn't quite live up to the restaurant name. Classic tourist trap. Absolutely not worth the money and our hotel later apologized for sending us there. Ambiance: The restaurant is dated and next to a liquor store and subway sandwich shop. You walk down two steps to enter and the restaurant is a long narrow space without any windows. It is very loud and the tables are right next to each other. The large round table in the back is adjacent to an alcove which includes the entrance to the kitchen, the cappuccino prep area and a broom closet that serves as the men's restroom. So expect a lot of traffic running back and forth. It's not worth it for an anniversary or special occasion. Service: spotty as best. Had to request bread, then request butter, then get waiters attention as he ran back and forth to the kitchen. The maitre de tried to upsell us on their wine bottle "special of the day". The whole dinner felt rushed as they focused on turning over the table. Quality of food: it was neither good, nor bad. We tried their appetizer sampler. Nothing was especially memorable, which means their appetizers are not worth the $15-20 if ordered separately. Similar experience with the entrees. The maitre de bragged about their tiramisu as the best in the city. We ordered 1 to share. Classic example of over promising and under delivering. Very disappointing experience. read more

I really like the ambiance, feels a tad more casual than fine dining but I like that. Like it's not a big deal if I just wanted to pop in here after work. Dim lights and mostly friendly staff. I started with the soup of the day which was the "million pieces of everything". Personally, I loved it, very hearty, exactly what you want on a cold night. Something is try to replicate at home. My papardelle mushroom was also lovely but pretty standard. Others at the table tried the pan fried chicken which was just ok...not their strength by any means. I really enjoyed my tiramisu for dessert...and throughout dinner I was washing everything down with prosecco. Not the nicest interior but very homey like you're entering someone's basement to have dinner. You are served focaccia and table bread accompanied by an olive tapenade. APPETIZER: Burrata del Salento con miele e tartufo nero $18 burrata from Salento / local honey / black truffle bits *I was hoping the burrata would be really creamy and have lots of truffle flavor but the whole dish fell flat and definitely didn't have the creaminess of a burrata and barely any truffle flavor. The slaw that came underneath didn't really add anything to the dish. ENTREES: Maine Lobster Linguine *This was the best thing I ate and it was because of the lobster not the pasta. The linguine tasted like box pasta, it didn't taste homemade, I'm not sure if their pasta is homemade. The lobster was cooked perfectly and the tomato sauce was very simple and didn't overwhelm the lobster. This menu item is usually listed on their daily specials and I would recommend trying this dish especially if you're a lobster fan. You also have the option to do risotto instead of linguine. Spinach & 4 Cheese Ravioli *Mostly pasta barely any filling, it was like sad deflated raviolis pretty disappointing. You'll still be very hungry after eating this. DESSERT: Tartufo al cioccolato Frozen zabaglione covered in chocolate gelato, hazelnuts and cocoa *this was pretty tasty reminds me of an ice cream version of the ferrero rocher chocolate. *I also opted not to the get the tiramisu because so many Yelpers mentioned it was small and mediocre. SERVICE: Consistent throughout dinner no complaints here, water and wine glasses were always full. I had an amazing dinner at Al Tiramisu last night. I was able to secure a last minute reservation last night via Open Table. I was seated at a cozy small table on the sidewalk. It was a little chilly and their outdoor heater wasn't working. The service and food was excellent! The good came out quickly and the portions were great for the price. I plan to go back again soon because I had a hard time deciding between 3 pasta dishes. Tony the waiter provided excellent service. Great spot for a romantic dinner! read more
