I recently had time to explore a little while in DC, and a charming PINK building caught my eye while taking a walk. I had absolutely no plans on buying or eating cake that day, but as a cake lover stuff happens. It was such a cute building the pastries had to be everything! It turned out to be the perfect stop. 1. The looks The building itself is so cute on the outside, and being a fan of the color pink, it instantly caught my attention. Inside, it feels less like a fast, high volume bakery and more like an intimate cake boutique. It gives small town where the owners know you by your first name. You can feel that real love was put into the space and the baking. Tasted like every ingredient was hand mixed, every cake hand frosted, and every cookie carefully hand scooped. They even served my slice of coconut cake on a real plate, which was such a cute, bourgeois touch that I loved. 2. Service The hospitality here is top-notch. On my first visit, yes you heard me! Lol! The gentleman Eric who rang me up was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different cookie and cake flavors. I ended up returning the very next day, and although he wasn't there, the other two staff members working which included Mikaela were absolutely delightful and so kind. The young lady told me her daughter loves the carrot cake as well and Mikaela said they started working there because they loved the patties so much! 3. The Cakes -Coconut Cake: This slice was so delicious, fluffy, and airy that it instantly reminded me of being a kid at holiday family meals with a fresh coconut cake on the table. -Carrot Cake: It was everything you want a carrot cake to be. It was nice and dense yet soft, with a pleasant texture from the added fruits. Definitely noticed pineapple bits! The cream cheese frosting wasn't overly thick and was so good you could eat it completely by itself. -Strawberry Cupcakes: I stole a small bite of my son's. unfortunately, this one was my least favorite. The frosting had a little chemical taste to it but it was a super cute cupcake. To answer your question, will I return? Absolutely! If you are in the DC area or planning a trip there soon, check this spot out. It truly feels like a mom and pop or pop and pop boutique. Not a bakery but a BOUTIQUE! Check them out! Last month, I ordered my mom's birthday cake online from them. I had a few cupcakes over the years and thought they were good in flavor but a little dry. I ordered yellow cake with chocolate icing in the small 6" size which is perfect for 4 people. Boy, it tasted just like the ones my mom used to make when I was a kid which is yummy. The chocolate was rich, more like milk chocolate not dark chocolate. It's suggested to not refrigerator the cake and I did not. My mom and friends loved the cake but one thought it was dry. They need more staff. That's the best way to put it. I get that it might be hard but yeah. Called to place an order for cupcakes and was put on hold for 32 minutes, the guy rushed me through my order, didn't have time to answer questions and they take payment up front so when I had to go inside to get my wallet I was put back on hold, which...fine. My fault anyway, my one memorized card number wasn't gonna cut it smh. Anyhow took my son and his friends for cupcakes after a spy museum hangout and honestly they were DELICIOUS BUT the staff refused to put the cupcake toppers on, there is no seating inside or outside for some reason, whether it was closed for a private event or just because, the ONLY seating is for the diner next door and they have big signs that say Diner Only. I had to balance the box, put the toppers on in their ROPED OFF window seat, and feed the boys on a bench outside which was blessedly unoccupied. Being middle school boys, they were fine, but it was a little much for an overstimulated mom on 4 hours of sleep and adrenaline after 5 hours with 5 middle schoolers. But the boys enjoyed, their cakes and cupcakes are amazing and I WILL order again, but maybe be a smidge more prepared lol. read more

Ordered a wedding cake tasting box for $25 and I was very disappointed to receive 5 average cupcakes. When placing the order it says you will receive either cupcakes or cake slices, but to receive all cupcakes is disappointing. Especially given that the cupcakes are only $3.50 each, so it would have been cheaper to just go in and order 5 cupcakes. If you are planning on cake tasting, just go in and order the cupcakes they have in shop. Overall, the cupcakes were dry and stale. Would not be surprised if they were two days old. Stumbled in the Cakeroom after an afternoon lunch with friends. This was going to be my final stop for the day. I have passed by this place a few times while in this area but I never stopped in. Wowza this place is gem they had just about everything for someone with a sweet tooth cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cheesecake, bars, lattes and I'm sure a few things that I didn't see. I decided to order a little of this and that. I went for two cookies, a cupcake and a brookie. I also ordered a slice of pumpkin cheesecake for my friend. My mom sent these cupcakes for my birthday! The assorted dozen was incredible, with such a diverse range of flavors. They had all the classics like chocolate/chocolate, red velvet, cookies and cream, but also some fun ones like cookie butter and chocolate peanut butter. The people I have dealt with on the phone and in person are needlessly rude and, even when they make mistakes, begrungingly take steps to rectify the situation. This is a cute bakery with a variety of cupcake options. I came one weekday morning and surprisingly they were out of many flavors. I decided to go with the lemon lavender, the cookie butter, the chocolate, vanilla, and the last peach cobbler. We wanted to try the rainbow cupcakes but it looked like a kid decorated them. The peach cobbler was unique and had our tongue tingling not sure what they used for the filling. We liked the basic vanilla with chocolate. The lemon lavender was strong on the lemon it over powered where you could not taste the lavender. They appear to have a reward system. Staff were friendly and noted it was a female owned company. Got a milestone birthday cake from here with a special request for a Marie Antoinette theme. My inspiration was to have macaroons, strawberries, rose petals and drips on the cake. I also requested rosette dollops (in frosting) but this direction was missed somehow (and the owner promptly compensated with a refund for that amount). The cake was truly delightful. It was very tasty, as are all the cakes I've had in this place. The theme of the store itself reminds me of a quaint little tearoom. See pics for the awesome cake they made for the occasion. They have great timing and availability, unlike other shops I tried in Maryland which were booked weeks in advance. They know how to crank out a lot of orders and are very efficient. Love. I'll acknowledge up-front that while I have a bit of a sweet tooth, I'm particular about the level of sweetness, and most handcrafted dessert foods and drinks are just too sweet for me. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate and recognize a great cupcake, however. For my birthday I had my heart set on a carrot cake cupcake, and the Cakeroom has a pretty strong offering. The cake is a tad dry, but I actually find that perfect when you get SO MUCH frosting, you really need a balance. Flavor-wise the cake is very good, a classic lightly spiced carrot cake. The cream cheese frosting was just a bit sweeter than I prefer, since I like my cream cheese frosting with more of a tang. A cupcake I got on a whim was the strawberry cupcake - sometimes whims work out, sometimes they don't, and I'd say this one leaned on the "don't" side (it didn't). This one was too sweet all around, and the cake part, which had real strawberry in it, reminded me of what I'd expect strawberry cough syrup to taste like. Not getting that again for sure. My surprise favorite was the pumpkin cupcake, which also came with cream cheese frosting. This was a bit less sweet than the cake of the carrot cake cupcake, which made the spice a bit more prominent. The previously too sweet cream cheese frosting seemed almost just right here - was the pumpkin cake a better contrast? Maybe just a better batch of frosting? I couldn't tell you. But I'd definitely get this one again. My partner's favorite cake (generally) is yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and he really liked the cupcake iteration here. He also enjoyed the red velvet cupcake, but was most impressed by the vegan Oreo cupcake (he insisted that it's NOT cookies and cream so I'm making sure to represent it properly). He is not quite as exacting as I am about food, so I couldn't get much more detail on any of his cupcake opinions. read more
