Met up with a group a colleagues while in town for a late lunch here at their recommendation. Beautiful location on the wharf, not from the airport (my next destination). The space is an enclosed patio and was fantastic. The French menu had so many amazing options it was hard to choose but the waiter was helpful in narrowing the choices and managing everyone's adjustments :) I had Salade Lyonnaise and the bacon on it was perfection, nicely sized so you got hearty bites. I wanted to love this place so much. I live next-door to it, so I've been looking forward to trying it. My sons treated me for Mother's Day. From the moment we arrived, the vibe was off. There was no excitement, positivity or welcoming words. No one in the restaurant said happy Mother's Day or even Hello - they looked exhausted and like they were just trying to get through the evening. Perhaps they were overwhelmed and understaffed, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The good: - clean seating area - quick check-in - espresso martinis and the French 75 were good cocktails - the vegan entree was good - the mashed potatoes were good The bad: - seated for three people at a table with two of the seats not fitting, one diner had to endure the meal with half of their back against a protruding wall and on a bench seam. - appetizer tray showed up missing one of the four appetizers, when we asked about it, they commented that they were out of it. They brought us some more cheese puffs. We would not have ordered that had we known. - we had to summon the waiter to take our entrée order well after the appetizers had been completely cleared - we had to share Waters when we could not get refills after trying a couple times - atmosphere was bland, didn't seem like effort went into the decor or the experience The ugly: - their signature dish was ordered medium rare: it could not be cut with the table knife and there was no steak knife because it's supposed to be a melt in your mouth dish. It was well done and had to be returned. From our seats, we could watch them inspecting it and talking while one of them rolls their eyes. They bring out another one that was cooked to order. - when we got the bill, they charged for both steaks which was an $82 charge. - again, we have to find somebody to help us with the check. There were no apologies and no offer for compensation for the appetizer, the service, the food, the overcharging, anything. It was really sad because that was to be a very special meal for me and it would be easy to at least try to make things right. :( Please know there are other things I am not including in this review because we are a family that has all worked in the service industry. I was in DC for the weekend August 2026 and decided to spend some time at the Wharf district. After a short walk from our hotel, we had an appetite for breakfast. After walking around, we settled on Bistro Du Jour. Our party of 4 was quickly seated in their outdoor area, which was quite nice and comfortable. I ordered the Paris-Brest Au Saumon Fumé, a warm sandwich with smoked salmon, sliced hard-boiled egg, and horseradish cream cheese topped with salmon caviar. Wow, what a flavor bomb this sandwich was! My wife ordered the overnight oats with fresh fruit and a side of turkey sausage. It was just a very friendly atmosphere. I came here with my wife and kids. We were greeted and seated immediately. For all the choices in the Waterfront, it seemed extremely reasonable. I got the Plat Americain, fruit for my kids, Moule Frites and mimosas. The fruit was like a mix of pineapple, blue berries and strawberries. Great portions for a side. It is probably the most reasonable space for brunch out of all the concepts there on the waterfront. They offered all items except the dinner menu of course, so it was not limited. I sipped a Colette's punch with rhubarb and cassis, brightly and vividly fruity. I chose the Moules Frites, which was abundant with mussels and a generous bowl of fries. I filled three bowls with shells. Very tasty. My counterpart enjoyed the Steak Frites, with Maître D'Hotel Butter, watercress salad and of course, fries. this is such a great find in the wharf area. I came here one windy ass night for a Too Good to Go bag. the pastries were so freaking good. I had the croissant in my bag after two days & it was still so fluffy and crispy. the pain au chocolat was the BEST I've ever had. that or I was really hungry and craving it. but it was so so good! We made a reservation for Saturday morning at 9 AM but it was pretty empty so it didn't seem like we really needed to. Since this is located at the wharf, I recommend taking an Uber or lyft here since the parking garages are almost always full. There wasn't anyone at the front for a couple minutes but was sat inside promptly when they came back. The patio is covered and heated and the inside is quaint and bright. Our server was somewhat attentive but usually was at the front outside patio area talking to the host staff. I ordered a Latte with vanilla that was very good and my mom ordered the grapefruit juice. We ordered their seasonal muffin which was Banana Chocolate and a Lemon Poppyseed Loaf. The muffin was well flavored but would have tasted better if it was a little warmer. The Lemon Poppyseed Loaf was disappointing, it was cold and very dry and didn't seem fresh. When we asked about it from our server, she just said "it was made today and it's supposed to be like that". She did ended up removing it from our check and asked if we ended up wanting something else instead. We just opted for another muffin. For the main dish, I ordered the Ouefs Au Plait. This was good but the sourdough underneath started getting soggy towards the end and the Mornay and mushrooms did start getting a little salty and overly savory. My picture for my quiche du jour - quiche Lorraine came out blurry. It was on the dry side even though the vegetables were fresh on the side. It tasted good but the ham was a little sparse. The croque madame was too soggy on the bread even though it was tasty. The best was the mussels. Generous portion and the fries came out piping hot. We chose Bistro Du Jour to host a colleague's baby shower. The restaurant staff were incredibly kind and accommodated our group of 10+ individuals on a walk-in basis. They pulled several tables together and kept us in a separate wing of the outdoor seating area, which allowed us to do our baby shower activities without being disturbed or being a disturbance to others. We managed to keep everything consolidated on one bill, which we settled amongst ourselves afterward. Camila was attentive without being intrusive. The food came out rather quickly and the orders were accurate. I enjoyed the Moules Frites (pictured) because my partner is allergic to shellfish, and I'm not often at a restaurant without him.
