Frites

Overall the experience felt underwhelming for the price. The food was just OK, especially considering how expensive everything is. Portions were surprisingly small, which made the high prices even harder to justify. Charging $13-$16 for French fries is honestly insane, no matter how you slice it. One big downside was the smell right at the front near the bar. It was pretty awful and not the best first impression. On top of that, while waiting for our table there was nowhere convenient to stand, which made the wait uncomfortable and I constantly felt like I was in the way. Duck had a good smoky flavor to it. Chicken having bones was super inconvenient to cut in the bowl it came in.

Local lager. Very good.

Wow. So glad we came here. Vibe amazing. Decor classic and cool. Bartenders were fantastic. Rashad was the one we mostly dealt with. We got the steak frites. Amazing!!!! Cooked well tasted great. Fries were crispy. We got a salad too it was fine. We also got the crème caramel dessert. Yum. Absolutely heavenly. It was crowded but service was great. Bathrooms clean. No complaints. Would definitely go back if I was in the area. Might make a reservation.

We were in town to visit my daughter and she was nice enough to make us a dinner reservation at this restaurant. I am so glad she did because it was outstanding. The vibe is very cool and somewhat romantic with the dim lighting and soft music. We got a very comfortable booth in the back of the restaurant. The menu has about ten appetizers, a few soups and salads, ten entrees and steaks. I started with the burata salad. It was just the right size and very tasty. For my entree I had the steak frites. It was a good size steak with a round slab of seasoned butter on it, making it delicious. It also came with a generous portion of great tasting fries. My husband and daughter both had the French onion soup and the mussels. They both loved their choices as well. Service was also outstanding. We were all too full for dessert but maybe next time.

Felt like I was back in the Village crushing the best bone marrow and burger on this green earth. So happy this amazing spot is right here in DC now too!

I came here with a friend for brunch, and I really loved the atmosphere--it's dimly lit and super cute, so I'd definitely come back for a date night. It was pretty empty (probably because the bad weather that day), so we got a lot of personal attention, which was nice. The food was fantastic! We shared a pastry basket, which was amazing--a great variety, and there were plenty of pastries, so we even had leftovers. I got the eggs Benedict with crab--so tasty! I just wished there was a touch more crab, but it was still delicious. My friend had a quiche or tart, and that was also really yummy. We had coffees and teas, and it was a wonderful time. I'll be back for sure!

We really enjoyed brunch at Minetta Tavern. We tried some classics, like the Minetta burger and the onion soup. The food was delicious. I had the mushroom truffle quiche, which a I honestly thought had too much truffle, but it was still good! The restaurant has a homey feel with old school black and white photos on the wall. The service was friendly and helpful. We had a good experience overall.

3.5 stars. Solid! New York tends to export their tried-and-true clones down to D.C. where our previously steak-house heavy food sceene has gained soffistication. Enter Minetta -- that gives Flat Iron classic mid-scale New York energy with southern hospitality. No frills here, you are comeing for American Bistro fare and martinis on the menu. A booth with a friend means we got to try some of the main staples. I got the lamb bolegnse which was solid if not a bit under-portioned. My friend got the steak, which was perfectly cooked and served over a nice gravy. We split the crudo and the terrine which, again, solid. The service is attentive with crumbs being cleaned between courses and check-ins appropriatly spaced. Still, just like other NY transports like The Smith, the special sauce feels lacking. Fussy eaters, folks from out of town staying near Union Market, or those just wanting a no frills and gaurenteed not to miss experience, this is for you. I hope they can push the envolope on one or two dishes. D.C. loves to experiment and welcomes an underdog!

Came here for a drink... 5 of us. We found a couch in the back for three of us and let her know two more were coming. but the server helped set us up elsewhere. So nice!! Got the Bas Soleil cocktail. Perfect after dinner drink.i loved the vibe here. Totally my decor! Lighting low, Red velvet furniture and crystal chandeliers. A bit lively in a Friday night Bathrooms are shared but the cleanest and most polite I've ever seen. I'll be back.

Sat at the bar for drinks and dessert, service was good but the food was underwhelming. Madeleines were ok, very airy and the chocolate sauce was only fine. The pain Perdu was over-fired and didn't taste like much. Expected more from a place like minetta, even the dc branch

They have excellent service, great place to get a drink and food was just okay. - Mussels: did not like it - escargot: out of its shell and I did not like this version. It was new though. Their entry is where every other business's back side where all trash can is, so it is a bit shady.

This place gets packed! We got lucky and they were able to seat us without a reservation. It was also later at night, like 10ish. Anyways really cool vibe in there! They have a speakeasy upstairs too with unique cocktails. Dinner was fantastic! I got the burger which was perfect. My friend got the duck and wow I wish I got that. It was delicious!! Amazing flavor. Definitely need to come back and try more and also have dessert, I was too full. Great spot for date night, with friends, or even alone if you want to sit at the bar.

It's just ok. Since the owner Keith McNally stopped hanging around as much, the service and the food has slipped a bit. The shine and excitement has worn off if you live in the area and standards have slipped a bit. Still okay to grab a drink and quick bite, but not seeking it out or eager to take visitors.

We came for husband's birthday. We chose this place for three reasons: bone marrow, soufflé, and dry aged steak! Couldn't believe they had all three. Loved the old school vibe of the place. Although a much smaller scale, it reminded me of one of the NY steakhouses that I really enjoy. Host staff was very friendly. They seated us at a circular booth. There were four of us, and we thought it was a bit cramped. Elbow room was fine, but because it was a small circular booth, our knees were up against each other. Server gave us a good recommendation right from the start. We started with the Roasted Bone Marrow appetizer and the Hand Cut Beef Tartare. It had been a while since I had bone marrow so I really enjoyed it. The beef tartare was also good. It came with dollops of a Dijon vinaigrette, which was good, but I thought overpowering for the beef tartare. So I preferred the tartare without it. Husband and I shared the Cote de Boeuf for two, which also came with two pieces of bone marrow. My son ordered the dry aged Black Label Burger. It came with a generous amount of fries. Daughter ordered the Smoked Li Duck Breast. Our dry aged steak came out perfectly medium rare, as requested. It was a good portion. It had a nicely seasoned crust. Rib eye is usually a bit too fatty for me, but this one wasn't too bad. It came with a gem salad which was decent. We also ordered the haricote verts and champignons poelees as sides to share. The haricote verts had a nice crisp to them, but I thought they were in too much butter. Overall, all the food was nicely flavored and seasoned. I tried the duck breast, and it was tender and had a nice smoky flavor to it. Didn't try the dry aged burger, but the fries that came with it were nicely seasoned. Surprisingly, no need to add extra salt. We finished the dinner by sharing the soufflé for two. It was moist and light. Husband is a big fan of soufflés, and he approved. The attentive service included refilled waters in a timely manner, and we were checked on throughout to see how our dinner was going. Minetta Tavern pleasantly surprised us. We wondered why we never came before. We'd come again and try the dry-aged New York Strip steak.

Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu.

The croissant especially was so soft and fluffy, thoroughly enjoyed that. I ordered an iced latte and asked for it to be sweetened, but it came out pretty punchy... I don't think the sweetener made it in! If you're into a strong, bold latte you'll love it, but if you like yours on the sweeter side, just make sure to double check with your server. The inside feels like a classic French bistro- cozy, lively, effortlessly charming, and completely transportive. It has that relaxed European energy where everything feels casual yet intentional. The food was outstanding. The artichoke dish was beautifully prepared with rich flavor and such a delicate balance that it felt elegant without trying too hard. The gougères were easily one of the highlights of the meal- warm, airy, deeply savory, and absolutely addictive. You can really taste the quality and care in every bite. I walked in and was seated at the bar. Rachal, the bartender, greeted me with a glass of water and asked me if I wanted a drink while I studied the menu. The restaurant space is very charming, giving off Parisian vibes. I ordered the Artichaut à la Grecque as a starter and the Salade Lyonnaise. The artichoke dish was simply delicious... steamed perfectly and accompanied by my new favorite sauce, sauce Ravigote. The whole plate was beautiful, but the way the sauce enhanced the flavor of the artichoke, not mask it, was just perfect execution. After taking my time with the artichoke, I switched over to the Lyonnaise salad... also simply perfect! The frisée was crisp and the lardons were cooked well. I'd say the only issue was the poached egg was a tad overcooked, but ever so slightly and it didn't ruin the dish. I sat at the bar after finishing both dishes and felt so much satisfaction from the food. The bonus was the lovely conversation I had with Rachal, at least until the rush of people started showing up... when I walked into the restaurant, it was quite empty, but when I left there was a line around the corner and every table was packed. I know why... If you're in DC, you have to dine here, you will not regret it!

Whoooooo man, do I have stuff to say…read more First off, I need to comment that Pastis and our server get a lot of leniency because 3 people in our group of 8 were 30 minutes late due to issues with Uber and other small things. But, beyond that, an otherwise "meh" night out food wise. I'm gonna streamline this. - Food: Why is the house steak called "bar steak"? That feels like a weird name for what's supposed to be a moderately upscale place. it's also $30, which is expensive for the area. - My wife's bar steak was ordered medium and it was served Rare. The same was true for a friend who ordered the exact same thing. What the hell? Sure, someone else in our party ordered hers rare, but if a guest asks for medium, cook it like that. My Spaghetti Limone was good, but was in an overly large plate. Also, it had 1-2 shakes too many of the red pepper flakes, and while I didn't mind the spice, some guests are spice sensitive and there was no indication on the menu it was gonna have any spice. We were given bread for the table but my first slice was actually cold to the touch. The bread itself didn't feel fresh. It honestly seemed like it'd just been set in the basket from wherever it was stored. Menu: - A lot of stuff on the menu seems fried (at times semi-heavily), which is not typical of French cuisine (this can be learned with a quick google). If it's meant to be "inspired by" note that. Also maybe make the menu healthier. - The menu itself is non-descriptive and gives an air that Pastis is trying to be classier than it is. Also, the cocktails and drinks menu was just a simple, cheap laminate while the main food menu was a paper one that wasn't taken away and stayed on the table throughout our meal. Service: 1) the server said "oh the non-alcoholic Bordeaux blend, good catch, " when i ordered my drink. She didn't see me point specifically to it either. If you're gonna list a couple non-alcoholic wines, maybe avoid having a regular version of the same variety? Maybe have the non alcoholic version more clearly labeled? 2) Water: our group specified flat water (not sparkling) and every time refills came (we had to ask, no staff clocked that we were low and asked if we wanted or simply brought more) only one bottle was brought and it was started at one end, meaning it was empty by the other end of the table. Why not bring 2? Why not just have bigger bottles? Additionally, because sometimes there is water upcharge in DC, we asked for Tap water. But we had to ask numerous times, multiple people in our group too, as it was never brought. 3) Our server spilled one guests wine on the floor at one point. 4) Our server disappeared for 5-10 minutes at a time, not bothering at all to ask how things were. At one point, when I got up to go to the bathroom, near the end of our meal, she was closing out other tables checks (usual end of the night stuff), which is fine, but there was still like 45 minutes left before the restaurant was due to close. Seems to me that should be done after your party of 8 leaves. We had to flag her or other servers down and Pastis was not busy. Service was inattentive. Multiple people in our party also had to ask for the table to get salt and pepper. When it came, it was just passively dropped off with big "fine, ugh, here it is" energy at the opposite end of the table, while staff walked away. I get it, half our group was 30 minutes late. But that doesn't excuse the apathy and disregard we were given. For a place that tries to be classy, Pastis was whelming. Honestly, don't recommend.
