Popped by yesterday for a nice dinner in a charming location!! Our favorites were the classic burger, the French onion soup burger, the fries, and the flan. We felt that the cheese puffs and the steak tartare were worth a try, but we likely wouldn't order them again on a future visit. Our server Rami (sp?) was also wonderful, and he really added to our evening.
A very cute place in Georgetown that specializes in Burger. I love how they serve all different creations of burger. My favorite was the one with brisket, bacon, and beef patty. My friend though like the onion rings burger. The dip for the puff pastry was probably my second favorite item. The salad was decent. I saw a table next to me ordered a fish sandwich and I'd like to try that next. Servers were attentive. There is no reservation and all parties must be present to be seated.
I got the chance to go to La Bonne Vache with my wife recently and we truly enjoyed ourselves. Service was fantastic from beginning to end. The venue is surprisingly big and they do not take reservations. If you plan on going during a designated meal time (lunch or dinner) try to show up 30 minutes before. The burger was fantastic. Best I've had in a while.
Came in for a late lunch on a weekday and grabbed whichever seat I preferred! Decided to order the Roti de Boeuf and a side of fries. Loved the sandwich but the fries were fried a little harder than my liking. Service was amazing, the staff here are super friendly. The restaurant is small and quaint so you feel like you've stepped into mini version of France. Such a cute restaurant!
10/10. The burger was good, clean, quality. The star of the show was the Gruyère fondue French fries - WOW. I will dream of those for a while. This is the cutest, quaintest spot for dinner with a friend or a date night! Kind, prompt service. Such an adorable touch to give you a postcard at the end too. It felt like a little European escape!
We came here around 11am on a Saturday - peak lunch time. There was already a line but it moved relatively quickly. It took awhile for our waiter to get around to us but not a big deal. The food itself was great! I especially liked the butter that came with the bread. It was really good and smooth
Just like they say - approachable and affordable french upscale casual fare. The burgers are delicious and the fries were nice and crispy. Drinks are also great - the espresso martini is delicious and unique. Service is pretty quick, they are busy here trying to get people in and out! Honestly worth the wait outside in the cold if you have to!
I came across La Bonne Vache while walking around in Georgetown, intending on going to another nearby restaurant. I'm so glad I did, because I'd give this place 6-stars if I could! I walked in and was seated at the bar. Rachal, the bartender, greeted me with a glass of water and asked me if I wanted a drink while I studied the menu. The restaurant space is very charming, giving off Parisian vibes. I ordered the Artichaut à la Grecque as a starter and the Salade Lyonnaise. The artichoke dish was simply delicious... steamed perfectly and accompanied by my new favorite sauce, sauce Ravigote. The whole plate was beautiful, but the way the sauce enhanced the flavor of the artichoke, not mask it, was just perfect execution. After taking my time with the artichoke, I switched over to the Lyonnaise salad... also simply perfect! The frisée was crisp and the lardons were cooked well. I'd say the only issue was the poached egg was a tad overcooked, but ever so slightly and it didn't ruin the dish. I sat at the bar after finishing both dishes and felt so much satisfaction from the food. The bonus was the lovely conversation I had with Rachal, at least until the rush of people started showing up... when I walked into the restaurant, it was quite empty, but when I left there was a line around the corner and every table was packed. I know why... If you're in DC, you have to dine here, you will not regret it!
La Bonne Vache lived up to the hype! Pro tip: Go for a late lunch to snag a table right away since they are walk-in only. The Hot Spiced Pear cocktail is the perfect seasonal sip, and the mushroom tartine is a total standout. I ordered the Beef Roti and it was 10/10. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. I'll definitely be back soon!
We beelined here, fresh off a plane, only to wait in line for ~35mins. We figured that if the lines that long, it's got to be worth the wait, right? My goodness, it was! The restaurant has such a cute cottage ambiance from the exposed wooden beams and floral wallpaper. It is quite lively so those sensitive to loud noise might consider to sit outside. We were seated at a tiny table with a direct view of the kitchen and we watched in awe as the crew adroitly prepared meals for dozens of tables, churning out freshly toasted buns and perfectly fried pommes, amongst many other delicious treats. And the smells had us antsy with anticipation for our meal. The gougères arrived first. They're small puffs that are lightly crispy on the outside and soft and mildly cheesy on the inside. They're so perfect on their own that they don't really need any accompaniment but the cream cheese sauce is tasty. The cauliflower and Gruyère soup was so bright and flavorful. We couldn't get enough of it. Definitely going to try to make something like it at home. The burger soupe a l'oignon" is a thin burger on a beautifully toasted brioche bun with garlic aioli, Gruyère fondue, caramelized onions and crispy onions. It was such a perfect burger - the beef is ground in house with a proprietary ratio of different cuts. You can tell the quality since there isn't any gristle or weird rubbery bits. I'm counting days before I can enjoy it again. I'll be back for sure!
I totally understand the hype now! I came around 4 pm on a Saturday, and there was a line, but was seated within 10 minutes. I was shocked at how packed and tight it is in the restaurant, but apparently it's the European vibe lol. I had their truffle burger and ordered some fries on the side. The fries were crunchy and tasty with the aioli sauce. But the truffle burger was so delicious, juicy, and flavourful! It was such a great burger, I'd say it's my favourite burger in DC! I'd definitely come again if I was craving a good burger and was in the Georgetown area. I'd probably just plan out timing, since it's walk-in only and the line can build up fast.
~Food/Drinks~ Pommes Frites: So crispy and comes with a side of garlic aioli. Ask for some extra because we killed the sauce so fast! Salade de l'Endive: I wasn't really sure what the salad entailed but I was pleasantly surprised. The greens (endive) have a bitter taste but mixed with the vinegrette and sweet fruits, it all balances nicely. There's a very fresh feeling with the crunchy greens. Burgers: We ordered the Steak au Poivre Burger and the Truffle et Brie Burger. I thought the burgers looked dry but it was a lot more moist than you'd think. Between the two, I preferred the au Poivre because it had more of that meaty taste that I was looking for in a burger. The burgers are a bit smaller than usual so I'd recommend ordering appetizers too. ~Service~ Staff was very friendly and were always apologizing when there was a wait. We kind of interacted with the manager/owner and he was talkative and made jokes every now and then. ~Atmosphere~ I wasn't expecting how busy and packed the restaurant would be on a Thursday night. It does seem that they tried to pack as many tables as possible indoors because there's a lot of tight spaces, especially near the kitchen. We sat at one of the tables between two walkways so it felt like we constantly had to scooch our seats in every time someone walked by. We were also seated next to the kitchen so it felt extra toasty. There's also a couple tables outside if you want to enjoy the cool evening breeze and it really gave off the same vibes as a restaurant in Paris. ~Logistics~ When you arrive at the restaurant, there's just a line outside, no sheet to sign in for a waitlist. The hostess would come down the line and asked for our seating preference. She was telling everyone about a 5-10 minute wait and the line was moving fast. If you don't want to wait, the bar is actually open seating but there aren't that many counter seats. No matter the size of your party, the bill has a 20% service charge added on. ~Conclusion~ Overall, very good meal and hope to be back someday! I feel like there aren't many good French restaurants so I'm always excited when I find one.

Interesting 'french' cafe/burger restaurant in Georgetown area. Overall glad I went but may or may not be back. Probably will only visit again if I'm craving a good burger and a beer. Got in on a random Sunday. There was a like out the door but within 5 minutes my party had a seat at the bar in the back. The bartender was a short, buff dark haired man. He was prompt in greeting us and getting the drinks out. 2 mimosas and 1 aperol spritz. They were fine. The burgers were excellent. Solid, slightly greasy and kinda small. Make sure to get an app or have someone in the party get a chicken sandwich (huge). The fish sandwich was tiny so the saving grace was half the chicken sandwich which a girl in our group couldn't finish. Lastly, the AC was struggling to keep up since the place was packed in the July summer. Overall a cute and cozy 'french' spot but not sure how authentic it is per my wife read more

I had the mussels with fries, it was very good including the flavor of the juice that came with the mussels. I got their spritz drink, does have alcohol in it. It was good and refreshing. The service is always great and ambiance is good. read more

Really loved this place! It's small and cozy, and sitting near the kitchen lets you feel all the great energy. We were a group of four and waited about 30 minutes. If you don't want to wait too long, the tip is to come during non-peak hours or a little before peak to beat the rush. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly in getting us seated, and they have a fair policy where your entire party must be present to seated. We had a few minor mix-ups with our orders, but the team was quick to fix them and made everything right. I had the French Onion burger, which was unique and delicious. We also ordered sides of fries that come separately. They are definitely worth it as well. I'm already looking forward to coming back! read more
It's in a really nice part of Georgetown down a cute back street. There are no reservations so you have to wait in line. The line moves fast though so it's not a long wait. I got a table for 1 that was about a 20 minute wait. I would mentally be prepared to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I got the Steak Au Poivre burger, frites Au fromage and ginger ale. The burger was really juicy. I wish I got a better shot of it, but it was good. The frites Au fromage were really good! The cheese was not overwhelming. It was the right taste to it and the spring onions enhanced the taste! The fries were crispy, so no sogginess at all. The service was good and wish I had a chance to try more of the menu, but will be back. I would make a day out of being in Georgetown and then go to the restaurant or vice versa. I don't think it is a destination restaurant, but it is a great highlight to a day in the city. read more

Overall, the food was good but it needed some salt and/or seasoning. I got the Goujon de Morue, which is a McDonald's style crispy fish sandwich for $16. The fish was battered nicely, but it just wasn't seasoned. Luckily, the housemade tartar sauce made up for it. I also got a side of the pomme frites and the portion was smaller than it looks online, at least mine was. They were also lacking salt, which is unfortunate since they cost $7. I was still a little hungry after finishing my meal. The drinks were interesting and well made. I was also impressed that they're all ABV. After two delicious St Tropez Spritzes, I felt very happy. They're so flavorful, that you don't miss any extra alcohol. The restaurant is very cute, and the staff is nice. read more

Came on a Thursday afternoon around 130 and was seated immediately. I came here because this place shows up on my social medial feed from time to time. It is cute European style bistro with a young, cute staff. This could be a cute friends meetup I ordered the steak tartare. It was a chopped beef with hazelnuts and a delicious sauce. I also ordered the truffle and Brie burger. The burger is cooked how it's cooked. No asking for rare/meduim etc. the bun is soft (potato maybe?). The burger was good. The service is where I get iffy on. They were fine, but felt dismissive. It was not a nice feeling through the meal. read more

I've been wanting to come here for quite a while and it was definitely an experience. My friend and I arrived Saturday evening around 7:30pm, where there was quite the line outside since they do walk-ins only. However, it only took around 20 minutes to get a table and the staff was very friendly throughout this process and throughout the entirety of the night. Our waitress took the time to explain the specials and make suggestions to us, even though they were extremely busy. Our food and drinks also came out promptly. The drinks were decent. I really enjoyed the St. Tropez Spritz, which was refreshing and floral. However, their version of an espresso martini was just okay. It seemed like there were three sips of the drink because of all the foam so I would stick with the spritz next time. The escargot were delicious and this is one of my favorite French dishes. I do wish they leaned a little more to the butter and herb flavors, as I felt they were a touch oily/greasy instead of that buttery decadence. The mussels were great-- decent portion for an appetizer and they were succulent paired with a delicious and bright wine sauce. Great for dipping the bread in. The salad verde was fresh and I loved the addition of the grapefruit, although I wish it was a tad bigger. I had a love-hate relationship with the steak frites. The fries were super crispy and very well-seasoned so no complaints there. The steak, although cooked to our liking and seasoned well, had soooo much fat on it. My friend and I split it and I felt like I had maybe 3-4 decent bites and then the rest was fat. I wouldn't say it's worth the price and I have had way better at other French restaurants for a comparable price. Overall, cute bistro-like restaurant and it was fun being in the midst of DC chatter while sitting at the patio table. Not sure if I would come again, but I did enjoy my experience overall. read more
La Bonne Vache is a decent burger spot. I got the Burger "soupe à l'oignon" and pomme frites. The burger was well done and the meat was quite dry. If it were not for the gruyere and sauce, it would be a very unimpressive burger. While I did enjoy the fried onion ring and take on onion soup, I would not come back. The pomme frites were nothing memorable either. Overall, it was a decently priced meal and I did not have to wait too long to get a seat at the bar. read more

Definitely a cute place in Georgetown! We came on a busy Saturday for lunch but the line outside moved quickly. When it comes to the restaurant itself, please note that there are only 2 bathrooms and the line can get long / spill over into where guests are seated and dining. It's a smidge awkward. Another miscellaneous thing to note - the rim of one of our glass cups broke, but they kindly replaced it and our iced tea promptly. Now onto the food! Our fries au fromage were delicious and gooey from the Gruyère fondue. We also got two separate burgers. My boyfriend got the classique and I got the truffle et brie. We loved both equally as they were perfectly seasoned and cooked. It will say that the service is a little bit spotty. It's such a popular place that it's really hard to flag someone down and it's very crowded but the line outside moves quickly and I think this place is worth a try for anyone who's curious about the spot and loves a good burger. read more
Tried this place out on a warm Friday night. It was quite crowded, the line starts outside, but thankfully we didn't have to wait too long. The place is bigger than it looks outside. It definitely reminds you of a nice place in France, no frills, just good service and good food. This is one of the cheaper meals you'll find in DC, and it's a meal of great quality. That being said though, the portions aren't huge so if you're really hungry, you may want to consider loading up on apps or two burgers. Ambiance is very friendly, a little loud inside but it seems like a great place for a family night, girls night out, a date, etc. They have a nice patio outside. Food is delicious! Not the best burger I've ever had, but definitely fresh and high quality. Service was also excellent but we couldn't hear our server a few times, just because like I said, it was a bit loud. We did feel a bit rushed at the end of our meal, so if you're looking for a place where you can sit and spend hours, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you're just coming for a quick meal and a brief catch up, this might be the one! Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and would add it to my list of places to return to. read more

The cutest little restaurant in a quiet street of Georgetown. If you go on a weekday, then it's pretty quiet with no wait. They make some of my favorite burgers in the city. My personal favorite is the steak au poivre; the pepper adds a nice kick that cuts through the greasiness of the burger. Their truffle burger is also amazing but on the heavier side. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, and they're very reasonably priced. read more
This is a popular cute French cafe in Georgetown that was highly recommended. I came here on a Sunday afternoon, but luckily there wasn't a wait. They don't take reservations, only walk-ins. They have an outdoor patio for extra seating. The tables are relatively small and the tables are close to each other so it's cozy. For food, we started with the steak tartare which was beyond tasty! It has hazelnuts and it's served with a wonderful aioli sauce. The meat was super tender, juicy, and honestly probably the best steak tartare I've ever had. It's a very rich dish with lots of flavor. After that, we had the green salad and garlic aioli fries which were good. The main entree was the truffle burger which was also super tasty. The bun was soft and the meat melted in my mouth like butter. Overall, it was an amazing food experience. My only complaint is that the serving sizes for the dishes were smaller than most other restaurants. It's like more tapas to small plate size portions. The service was really good. Our waiter came by frequently to check on us and got us order and food out to us quickly. This is a must stop for Georgetown! read more

The hype is worth it! I came on a Sunday around lunch and there was a short line but it moved quickly. The interior is pretty tight but cozy. The apps are not to be missed, particularly the steak tartare and the oxtail marmalade. The burger was delicious, but the fries deserve the spotlight too! read more
"I will need to come back here often," my wife told me after having dinner at the bar at La Bonne Vache. Just off one of Georgetown's main streets, they only accept walk-ins. Trying to beat the crowd, we went on a Sunday evening in March around 7:45pm. Despite a line to get it into the small restaurant, our wait was only 20 minutes. Here's our experience. 1) Food: You can't go wrong with anything here, but to start, we ordered the endives salad that comes with bleu cheese, grapes, walnuts, and grain mustard vinaigrette. We devoured it and immediately ordered a second. For our main, we split the classic burger and the Steak Au Poivre burger. Both were very good. The classic tastes like a gourmet Big Mac. The Steak Au Poivre melts in your mouth. Both are among the city's best burgers. For dessert, we got the chocolate mousse, the best I've had in D.C. It comes with whipped cream and chocolate nibs adding to the texture. It's dark chocolate, but it's not super bitter. 2) Drinks: Since the weather was nice, my wife ordered their spritz and I their Sauvignon Blanc. Both were unique and refreshing. The Sauvignon Blanc has notes of passion fruit, which was more unique. 3) Service: From the host to the servers, everyone was quick, friendly, and personable. Sitting at the bar, we got more attentive service. Whenever we needed anything, our server was right there. 4) Space: It's small with low ceilings, but they make good use of the space. There are two small dining rooms and a few tables outside along the sidewalk. Two small restrooms are in the second dining room. 5) Neighborhood: Georgetown is always bustling! A solid choice for a delicious burger and perfectly crisp French fries! My bestie and I visited here for her birthday and we were very happy with our meals. We started with the œufs mimosa and found them to be delicious! They had a slight spice mix sprinkled on top, which took these deviled eggs to the next level. We each ordered a burger. They were a great portion size, not too big and not too small, and cooked medium well. The burgers came on homemade toasted buns and had a nice amount of "juicy-ness" to them. All the ingredients were fresh and paired well together. No matter what you order, so not forget to order some pomme frites! These were so crispy and are an absolute necessity pairing with a burger....you should always order fries with a burger in my opinion, but you don't want to miss out on these. The service was quick and very friendly! The interior was well decorated and clean. It was giving off quaint French restaurant vibes, very fitting giving the name. LBV has the best burgers. The fries are skinny and good too. There is always a line but it moves, about 30-45 minute wait. Sit outside, enjoy some wine and have a really good burger. read more

A reasonable price point for a restaurant in Georgetown. It's walk in only, so expect a longer wait on the weekends. Once seated, our food came out pretty quickly which was a plus because we were starving. The burger is a good enough size for lunch and not big to the point where you will feel too heavy. I would appreciated more seasoning on my steak au poivre but overall a solid burger. The fries were crispy. I do wish my food came out a bit hotter. read more
This place provides fancy restaurant level service, ambiance, and drinks alongside well executed burgers. They have a nice selection of appetizers and salads with a 4-or-so core beef burger selection. The burgers reminded me of an upscale shake shack. Was really wowed by the food and service at this restaurant! Our server/bartender Tim took such good care of us despite the restaurant being packed and busy and made excellent recommendations. It is first come first serve so I recommend coming a little bit early to beat the dinner rush. The food was great as well as the drinks, the gougères were soft and fluffy and the fries were delicious with the garlic aioli. The burgers were super unique and had a great flavor. I will say that the place feels very tight inside, there's not a ton of space to move between tables and the chairs are kind of small. It feels very French and homey which I loved but if you need a little more space to move around or feel comfortable I would try to get a spot outside! read more

This place was recommended to me and was absolutely scrumptious! We had the beef tartar, homemade chips, pomme frites and Roti de Bouef. We were lucky to snag two seats at the bar, but you could tell they were very busy with a Sunday rush and I can see why.. read more
This is a nice choice when in Georgetown. We decided on brunch. I had sliced ribeye on a baguette. Gruyere cheese, frisee, and horseradish garlic aioli added a nice blend of textures and flavors. My only gripe that rhe sandwich was a little small for the price. I shared the sandwich with my wife who had the endive salad. I loved the components of the salad as well as its mustard vinaigrette. But we added a side of breaded cod that came across a little bland. Still they are one of the best choices in Georgetown in my opinion. Go there and enjoy. read more
