Super kind server, she deserves a raise!! Great interior decor. The food is wayyyy too overpriced for what it is though :( I've heard the breakfast is good and is better priced. read more

Carrot Cake review: Oh my God, it's all about the carrot cake. I don't need or want anything else just their carrot cake and that's what I did. I went in during brunch and ordered a slice of carrot cake to go. The cake was HUGE and I knew if it was as good as people said it was then I could not take it home with me. This was a no frills type of carrot cake. It had the plain cream cheese frosting without any carrot top icing or strawberry for garnish. Also, it had no raisens or nuts or shreds of coconut. I loved how simple it was because it was all about the taste: Moist, not too sweet, not too plain, and carrot fully blended into the flour. I knew I had to share it with friends and that is exactly what I did. I and four other friends comfortably indulged in this carrot cake and left no crumb un-turned. I am a lover or carrot cake and this one is quite delicious and makes my top 5 list for sure. read more

Ok wow this place is CUTE. Loved the aesthetic inside, felt very European and cozy. I came for happy hour, which is awesome by the way!! Wine is super cheap and so are some of their apps. I just got the sangria and fries off happy hour, both of which were great. The food in general looked really good, so I plan on coming back to try that eventually. read more

Perfect date spot, intimate setting for classy get-togethers with friends, a little dose of Paris in Minneapolis :) I ordered their shrimp scampi, and oh boy, it was yummy... The shrimp was very fresh and plump while the sauce had the perfect combination of creamy texture, butter, and a nice spicy kick from the chili pepper. For dessert, I had vanilla bean cheesecake, and the vanilla was such an excellent touch to the cake. It wasn't overpowering but a sweet and noticeable addition of flavor to the cheesecake. COVID: Need to make a reservation online, counter service only, open seating, can only stay in the restaurant for 90mins (although I assume they won't ACTUALLY kick you out) read more

My friend and I came here for brunch. I did not manage to try everything I would like to, but what I had was good! First of all, out of all things, the atmosphere and vibe were great, and it was a good environment for intimate conversations. Food-wise, my friend and I had the Croque Monsieur, the Quiche, some fries, and waffles. We also had a vanilla crème brûlée as dessert. Everything was well-made. My only suggestion is that the green salad placed on the side of both the quiche and the Croque Monsieur seemed more symbolic and conveniently placed on the plate without much work into it. Personally I would like to see the main food in a dish and the side occupying similar degrees of importance, if that makes sense. I think for people who would like to grab brunch to catch up with friends, etc., this will be a great place. I am sure there is a lot more food that I did not end up trying this time, too, so I am down to go back! read more

Came for Restaurant Week, but they sold out on the last day and wasn't offering it anymore. Pretty disappointing given that this promotion is what brought me and my friends here. Instead I got the ratatouille and French onion soup, which was good and made with fresh ingredients. It's a smaller restaurant. Love the free private parking available in the back alley area. Service was a bit slow, but they were friendly. read more

This looks like a neighborhood favorite with lots of conversation between patrons and staff. We think it will now be one of our favorites too... This is a lovely, cozy, colorful restaurant with great service and really delicious food. We didn't have reservations when showing up around 7pm on a Friday, but we were given a choice of sitting at the ample bar space - there is both a low bar somewhat like a table and a high bar - both traditional and more table-like. The service from the bartender was outstanding - prompt, informed, and he checked in on us frequently. We ordered the avocado salad and burrata cheese appetizers - both great. Then enjoyed the wild mushroom risotto and the halibut on special. Everything about both dishes was top notch - flavorful, balanced, nicely seasoned but letting the simple flavors come through. The gigantic carrot cake (which was tasty but not outstanding) and the perfectly indulgent chocolate lava cake topped off an excellent meal. read more

I'm brand new to Minneapolis and this was recommended by a gal back home. Wow. What a gem. Loved everything about it. Lovely outdoor sitting area. All of the staff were attentive and prompt, very kind & professional. I will definitely be a regular here ! I started with a hibiscus margarita. Delightful. Then I had the fresh sweet corn soup. Amazing fresh and full of great flavor. For my meal I had Pan roasted chicken. Breast. Wow. This chicken was so crisp on the outside but moist and juicy on the inside. Chicken was served with Roasted cauliflower, melted leeks, broccolini, chicken demi. Perfection. Honestly. Had a nice glass of red wine I asked the server to choose for me. Finished off with the creme brûlée as the gal that took my order recommended as her favorite. It was perfect. Like I said. I'll definitely be back. Soon !!!!! read more

An old favorite from warhorse restauranteur Kim Bartman, Barbette has stood the test of time and may be her best creation. The funky-chic Art bistro interior should never be changed. I almost don't care about the food or drink but the French-inspired comfort food fare always satisfies even if it isn't memorable. The bar is the same. Service runs the gamut from engaging to aloof. Unfortunately this restaurant is tainted by Bartman's public record of longtime abuse of her employees, typified by the lawsuit filed by employees with the help of attorney general Keith Ellison resulting in a six figure settlement to partially cover unconscionable wage theft. Maybe your money is better spent elsewhere? read more

I went there for dinner last night for the first time and was deliciously impressed! Upon entering- you are transported into a very chic and artsy dining room with lots of conversation and romantic lighting. We glazed over the menu and picked 5 things! For our appetizers we had the west coast oysters and the bone marrow. The oysters were fresh and salty. The bone marrow was scrumptious! It was loaded with marrow and the side of bacon jam with baguette was an excellent accompaniment. My friend had the beef tartare as an entree and I got the wild mushroom risotto. The beef tartare was fresh and well seasoned. My risotto was cooked very nicely- fluffy with plenty of cream and cheese. For dessert we got crème brûlée and it was made just perfect! I'm happy they served it warm and the sugar crust was just the right thickness. Also the touch of cardamom was nice. One of my favorites in uptown! read more

We took a group of eight to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was just perfect. Lots of interesting and tasty vegetarian dishes. The King Oyster mushroom entree was outstanding and our kids enjoyed the half chicken, oysters and salmon. The place has a fun energy to it and the service was attentive but not intrusive. Great place for date night or to celebrate a special occasion. read more

Had the best espresso martini made by CJ. So so good! We had two. We both hadn't had escargot in so long and ordered that. But it was not to either of our liking. They kindly took it back and removed from the bill. The place has great energy and I look forward to trying more things here. read more

Laurie is a great waiter, engage with her. The mussels are excellent here. The Nicoise is excellent, a bit smaller than other places but the seared tuna is far more tender than at competitors. Do you hear me French Meadow? Carrot cake slice is enough for 2-3, very good quality. Also, the Risotto is unique, much less sticky and milder with the taste of peas and pesto coming through. Barbette is consistent and has been for more than 20 years. read more

Best broccoli I've ever had. Excellent French fries with the ribeye cooked to perfection. We also had really good risotto and fried chicken. The salmon was ok. I apologize for the short review, I did this a day later. This was all take out of course so I really can't rate the place read more

Stopped in for dinner. Ambience on the back patio/parking lot was not great. Cocktails were serviceable and wait staff was good. Had sludge-like gnocchi for entree and it was awful. Dry, doughy, no sauce, and tasteless. French would not be impressed. Not comped despite complaint and not eaten. Will not be back. read more

Food was okay. My food came out cold, the yogurt parfait hugely lacked any granola or fruit! Was missing the honey, I'm not a huge fan of plain Greek yogurt. It definitely needs honey. Lattes were small and pricey. $77 later for eggs, sourdough bread (was supposed to be toasted but came out as bread) hashbrowns, waffle, and a yogurt parfait, along with 3 lattes and a cocktail. Probably wouldn't do brunch there again. Service was great. No problems with service. read more

We sat on the patio on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable. Food was delicious, we were really happy with our entrees. We especially liked the frites & I thoroughly enjoyed my smoked salmon crepe- would highly recommend ordering for a savory flavor blast, complimented by a fresh salad. We also enjoyed the various flavored mimosas, I personally had the traditional mimosa, which had a solid OJ to champagne ratio. Overall a really good experience & we will return soon. read more

Barbette is a lovely French bistro that is appealing in all the ways. The combination of their French-inspired menu + warm interior + location in Uptown make for a lovely place to drop in casually, or to have a romantic date night. Takeout and delivery is available too! I've been here during the day to grab a burger and also for late-night happy hour for bites and sips. You can't go wrong with a "Royale" cheeseburger on their daily brunch menu... especially when the cheese is a thick slice of French comte and the burger is Midwest Limousin beef. Pro tip: sub fries with saffron aioli! I also love coming here for late night bites like oysters, pommes frites, and cheese + meat plates. All of that said, this biz is super involved with the community and is a mindful farm-to-table destination. Final pro tip: check in on the Yelp app for a discounted drink! read more

Barbette was featuring an enticing menu for restaurant week and I just had to give it a try. For a start we had the Beet dish that was a Beet dip that servers with a varied of items to dip. It was fantastic. I loved the pickled root vegetables and the homemade chips. For the main course my group tried the salmon and the roasted chicken. The salmon was amazing and served with the most flavorful and crispy skin. I ate every bite! The salmon dish overall was just a bit on the dry side as it was served with Brussels sprouts and roasted sweet potato. I wish it had more sauce. The roast chick was moist and everything on the plate was amazing including the sauce, veggies, and mashed potatoes. My sister said it was the best chicken she ever had. Dessert for us included the Creme Brûlée, Carrot Cake, and chocolate torte. The carrot cake was the best and I would get it again. The chocolate torte was a little to rich and bitter for me. Staff and service was good, although I didn't like how they didn't ask or offer to split the check before bringing us the entire bill. I also didn't really like how the waiter commented on how much we ate by saying something along the lines of "wow you must have been hungry". There were other things on the menu that I would like to try so I would like to go again. You can make reservations on the website which is nice. read more

Great energy and wonderful food. The staff here do a fantastic job of taking care of you. Highly recommend

Barbette has become a favorite "go to" place for us. We love the mussels. It was a new treat for us and they showed us how delicious they were. On top of that they have really great bloody Mary's. They aren't over done with too much stuff. They are just perfect. The Benedict's are very good. We hosted a brunch in their private party space and it worked out so well. Staff is very attentive. Love this place. We will be back soon. read more

Expressing martinis from barbette are my favorite!!! Their sidewalk patio is super cute. Parking in the lot or on the street. Also love their brunch. They often have great happy hour deals too! The art work on the walls varies and brings a lot to look at while you're there. Service can be slow at times, but it's worth the wait. Reservations are available online but also they tend to have availability for small parties on a walk on basis too read more

We stopped in here today on recommendation from a friend. Cute place with a nice French-Like menu. I had a cappuccino and the turkey sandwich and my husband had an espresso and croque monsieur. Both of us upgraded to the fries. The food was decent enough (actually the fries were quite good) but the service is definitely lacking. I ordered my turkey sandwich without the sprouts as they make me sick when I eat them. The sandwich came with sprouts. Ok. Mistakes happen. However the problem here is they NEVER came back to see if our food was ok or check on us. I ended up pulling as many of the sprouts off as I could and ate the sandwich. I must have missed some because I did get sick. Finally, after 25 minutes we were given our bill but still never was asked if everything was ok if we needed anything else. Will we be back? Eh, probably not. I could go elsewhere with food that is just as good without having to pick stuff off my food and where the service is actually decent. read more

You can always be guaranteed a fine meal. The bartenders really make the best drinks, service always outstanding and the place Buzzes! It's eclectic, tre chic and worth every penny! Tip well folks.., the wait staff here So came in with my daughter- for brunch, ordered the croque monsieur, it did taste nice but it WASN'T a proper croque. The sandwich was just a grilled ham and cheese- it wasn't dipped in a cheese sauce of flour, milk and gruyere cheese, then baked until toasted! That was disappointing- but I love Barbette, the ambience, service, wine pour or cocktails all worth coming. Maybe when I DO come back the chef can make me a proper CROQUE MONSIEUR read more

Barbette is a cozy and intimate French restaurant off Lake Street. I came in for a late dinner and ordered the Seared Scallops appetizer and cup of soup. The soup of the day was creamy potatoes and bacon. The scallops could have been milder on the salt but it was a good combination with the corn, tomato, and onion mix it came with. I feel like the dish (3 scallops) could have benefited with more, or a thicker, more savory, sauce. The cup of soup was pretty small, about 2/3 the size of a regular mug. It came out piping hot and I had to air it out before scarfing it down to rush and leave the restaurant to run back to my hotel to catch the last two innings of game 7 of the World Series. (All that info to say the restaurant does NOT have a television). The $5 house wines on the Yelp check-in deal and HH are boxed wine. Can't comment on taste because I didn't try. Service is friendly though (how I found out about the boxed wines) read more

Ate here for a work lunch. Driven by a number of times and didn't realize it was here. Service was okay - a bit indifferent but present enough. One thing I wish restaurants would do is if you had an uncommon menu item, throw down a little explanation. I get that I am not the most cultured person in the world, but I eat out with vendors and clients a lot, so I've been around. When I see stuff on the menu that I'm just expected to know what it is, it makes me feel dumb, and I don't think that is a vibe the restaurant wants. What is mornay? One person at the table described that "it is like a mayonnaise". The other said it is like hollandaise. Those are pretty different. And it is on all the sandwiches. (I ended up Googling it. Its a milk/egg/cheese sauce.) ANYWAY, I ended up with the one sandwich that did not have it, the Roasted Turkey, which was pretty good. Had fries for the table which were average. The space is fun, has a coffee shop vibe. It was a good overall experience, and I would go back, but it is not at the top of my list. read more

We liked the atmosphere and the appetizers were amazing! However, both of our entrees were not great. My husband had the steak and it was a cut of beef that would definitely be better in a stew. Small things like "add grilled chicken" ends up being chicken thighs just seemed worth clarifying. On an additional note, they were wonderful in terms of COVID-19 safety protocols so we very much appreciated that. In the end we might return, but only for appetizers and a quick cocktail. read more

Barbette was disappointing. Mostly because of the service and cleanliness. The food was tasty. The decor was cute/flamboyant but dirty. There is one bathroom total and it is disgusting. THe service was weird. I waited for several minutes before being acknowledged, blah bah blah.... over not welcoming. They were not busy. The parking is street. I had the special - the lobster tortelli (made up word?) and it tasted good. The esprsso cremem brulee was also good. I won't come back here. read more

Painfully slow for the food tonight. Dinner for two on a Monday shouldn't take two hours. The pre fixe dinner at $35 is a great deal. The pre fixe was Steak tartare, tagliatelle with a mint/basil pesto, sea scallops (they gave only one), and molten chocolate cake. All courses were great. We would go back to try again; maybe it was an off night for the kitchen on speed. read more

I have been several times to this sweet bistro and it is definitely worth revisiting. On my most recent visit, I loved the tartare and charcuterie, which I shared with a girlfriend along with a glass of rose. The food is always tasty. I wish the prices were a little lower, but I appreciate the good food they serve and I don't think they are way off the mark. The only downside for me was that we were seated in a corner spot along the wall and the banquette seat was excruciating! My butt was really unhappy by the time we left after some much-needed catch up time. Next time, maybe I will make a point to avoid this and sit elsewhere. During the nice seasons, there is seating on the sidewalk outside and it is great for seeing cute dogs parked up and people watching. We went without a reservation on a Thursday night and didn't have trouble getting a seat indoors but the outdoors was full-up (end of August - not surprising!). read more

BRUNCH REVIEW Super cute date spot for brunch- if you're looking for a budget friendly place this might not be it for you...great food, so so value. Dont come here expecting a greasy spoon. 1. Veggie egg omlet was really great! good ingredients, everything balanced. It came with a salad which had a great dressing. 2. A la Carte -We also had a side of hashbrowns and bacon- for the value, I am not sure that this is worth it. Done well, but for the price and what you're getting there isn't a whole lot that you can do to make a stand out hashbrown. of F*ck up bacon...amiright? 3. Sweet Crepe- DW had one with an apple compote, he said it was 'good' but he had menu fomo when he saw the waffles come out of the kitchen. read more
