Ah Barbette, I really wanted to love you, but we never got past like. We stopped in for an early dinner/late lunch and ordered the Niçoise salad with smoked salmon and the Ferndale turkey sandwich. The salad was good but underwhelming. It's a deconstructed salad so every bite is unique as you choose what to stab your fork into each time, which keeps it from getting boring and lets the ingredients be the star. Unfortunately none of the ingredients were especially flavorful. The purple potatoes really are there for decoration as they add nothing in the flavor department. The anchovy added a saltiness that was nice, but really nothing else stands out to me. The sandwich again was good but not great. The bread was perfectly toasted and all the ingredients blend well together, but it was just a good turkey sandwich. After reading great things on Yelp, we decided to get the carrot cake to go and were pretty disappointed there. It has a very thick, moist, kind of gelatinous texture. The frosting was good, but the texture didn't do it for us. We loved the relaxed, upscale cafe feel of the place and would like to give their dinner menu a shot sometime, but the first visit was just ok. read more

Barbette is absolutely delicious. There is nothing on the menu that will disappoint. The food is consistently amazing. It's probably my favorite spot in uptown. The service is good and the food holds well when delivered as well. I get the truffle scrambled eggs and steak frites often. Highly recommend! read more

Had lunch a few months ago at Barbette. Perhaps it was brunch on a week day and thus the menu did not have many authentic French dishes that I would typically find and expect such as the lack of escargot or foie gras on their appetizers/entrée. They serve brunch between 8am and 4pm with happy hour from 2pm to 5pm. You'd expect to find mostly sandwiches and salads for their brunch entrée selections and a semi fusion of American-French cuisine on their menu. I ordered their happy hour special "Bottle of Bubbly" which comprised of the 49M Cremant de Loire Brut NV champagne & Dozen Daily Fresh Oysters for $38+++. While I actually really only wanted the dozen of oysters as it was $3++ a piece, the happy hour special turned out to be technically cheaper or just $2 more with a bottle of champagne compared to simply ordering a dozen of oysters at $36++. The staff was also really kind to acede to my request and allow me to take the bubbly to go instead of having it there as I was driving and was going back to work. As I left hurriedly after my quick lunch and totally forgot to take my credit card after signing the bill, they were kind to keep my card at the cashier counter but it wasn't until after work that I realized and was relieved when I returned later to retrieve it. read more

I stumbled upon this place today and it is a gem. I visit Minniapolis often, lately, and I'm totally into the food scene in this city. Barbette's was a terrific experience. I chose East coast oysters, a Niçoise salad and had the flourless chocolate cake for desert. The oysters were fresh in their own liquor and the mignonette was tangy and fresh. I added horseradish for some additional zing. I did not have fish with the salad (except the delicious anchovies that come with the salad), but ordered an extra egg for protein and it was delicious. Perfect jammy eggs and freshly perfect green beans, al dente purple fingerling potatoes and a zingy vinaigrette. Of course the flourless chocolate cake was perfect too. So, I loved it all. Can't wait to come back and try other dishes - but first time was a charm for me. :) read more

Food is phenomenal!!! ( I get the Croque madame every time, but everyone always enjoys their meal as well) Staff is always friendly. The patio is small & quaint, in my opinion the perfect vibe for a lowkey brunch in the summer. The inside has a great aesthetic as well when it is colder. Personally the first French place I have been & I definitely approve! read more

I would likely give this space 3 1/2 stars....it's between okay and good. My spouse liked it more than I did. We ate outdoors and while the server was pleasant enough, she was a bit scattered and not on-her-game. For example, she came to take our order but had only brought the drink menu and not the food menu and hadn't realized it (despite going over the specials with us). The steak frites (new york strip) was fine but a bit fatty. At over $40 I expected more. As a matter of fact, what I found the most hard to swallow was the final price tag for two of us, which hit over $100; we hadn't been drinking. Our favorite dish was the salad....which says something. This place was worth a try but we probably won't be back. read more

Saturday at 3:45PM. Ignored immediately as I walked in. Five workers just doing their thing. 5 tables out of 20 were full. Keep in mind this is counter service now. I requested a side area for shade and was told that since I did not have a reservation I could not sit there (there were so many tables available and it was before the dinner "rush," which doesn't exist anymore). I was told I had to sit in the back or the front (blazing sun, cars whizzing past, parking lot view and people walking right next to you), which are really undesirable and not safe. I told the lady at the front I would check the back to see if it was available- which is her job, not mine. I finally settled in the back and ate as quickly as possible as I'm not a fan of eating in a parking lot. A double espresso, Salmon Nicious and 20% tip came to ~$26. For counter and sub-par service I was quite shocked. Maybe my standards are too high for this restaurant but for real... if there are tables available in an area I requested, even without a reservation and was told it was "policy" that I could not sit there because of a lack of reservation- why not make me one! I'm right there! A paying customer today is like gold to restaurants who are suffering. I sure as heck won't ever sit at this restaurant again and intend. As I left, the side area in which I requested was empty. I was so disappointed. I went in an explained that I was not happy and that I would not bring friends or family to the restaurant, in which I did from time to time. The staff got defensive and told me I can never eat at the restaurant again. What psychological power-trip BS is going on at this place. I never write reviews but what...the...heck Barbette..... read more

This place is amazing! I had the Mushroom and Sweet Potato Risotto which was phenomenal! Definitely recommend!

Nice place with awful service. Can't comment on food, because after being seated no server came to the table. Plenty of empty tables. Counted six servers and four occupied tables. I recommend you find someplace other than Barbette's for your next outing. read more

Barbette is usually a little pricier but they have a good (& reasonably priced) brunch! It is one of the only French restaurants in Minneapolis and it feels like a cute little bistro on the inside. I was a fan of their mimosas which were a solid pour of champagne with just a splash of orange juice. I wasn't impressed with the bloody mary and I didn't taste the spice in it at all. The Belgian waffle was light and fluffy and the lemon curd/blueberries on top were great. I got hash browns on the side and they were perfectly crispy on the outside and melty and buttery on the inside - still drooling just thinking about them! My friend ordered the veggie hash which was served in a broth and she raved about it. The service wasn't the best. The servers weren't very friendly (could have just been an off day) but the food is worth going and it is conveniently located on Lake street in Uptown! read more

Stumbled upon this place while on vacation! Very nice decor inside and cute tables outside. Had a nice dinner consisting of the Pomme fries, get the large! They are SO GOOD! The asparagus risotto with prawn shrimp was delicious! Just the right amount to be satisfied and it was not heavy at all! The service was prompt and attentive! Only thing is that it was a bit pricy but i guess we were on vacation and treating ourselves. read more

Barbette is a quaint French bistro right in the heart of Uptown. The restaurant is pretty small with some additional outdoor seating in the summer months. The dinner ambiance is intimate with dimmed lighting and candles at every table. I visited on a Sunday evening, there was a special drink menu with reasonably priced cocktails and house wines. We started with the chef's plate which had both charcuterie and cheese selection. Very good- beef tongue, salami, sheeps cheese, blue cheese, and a sweet onion jam. Other favorite starters were the tartare and the pommes frites. The tartare was served with an egg yolk on top and was perfectly seasoned. And the fries were crispy and served with an aioli that I couldn't stop eating. For dinner I had the Nicoise- lettuce, tomato, purple potatos, green beans, anchovies, and a soft boiled egg all lightly dressed in a light lemon vinaigrette with seared ahi tuna on top.. yum! I recommend this for anyone looking for something a little lighter. For dessert we had a GIANT piece of carrot cake, enough to share with the entire table. Yum yum yum- I would come back just for this! Great experience. I will definitely be back! read more

Always delicious & as if I'm in another country but here I am in a creative artistic neighborhood of Uptown Minneapolis Minnesota with delicious & picturesque local color Italian influenced atmosphere. The outside tables are appreciable & perfect for summer days, the interior decor a blend of high art & diner Art Deco fusion. The food is unique Italian from scratch type of an experience & their coffees & cocktails a work of art, to me. See the photos. I find the wait staff just perfect! On a busy hot summer day they are accommodating & were able to serve us beverages while seated outside & waiting for the coveted outdoor table to open up. If they have quiche on their specials menu, grab it! The crust is perfectly flaky, the filling is melt in your mouth divine essence of a signature chefs quiche filled with local farmers in season summer flavor in the fluffed local & perfectly beaten to that fluffy airy creamy blend browned beautifully on top. How did they do this? I bet they have a world class oven, as I cannot achieve this at home. The coffees are so good that even the zest after it is drank away is smooth against the rim & surface of the porcelain with a matte layered visual finish. read more

Came here on a cold blustery day, early and in need of some sustenance to fuel me through the day. I couldn't see their hours near what I thought was the main door and almost thought it was closed until I saw a couple go in a side door. Tricksy! Once inside I was handled by an extremely kind waiter and ordered a ham and gruyere omlette. The coffee came in a small cup but was attentively refilled, which meant it was always warm. I wasn't sure what to make of the menu, as portions (though not all) were reprinted on both the front and back. Thankfully, it was arranged in easy to read sections with a few options each to make for quick assessment. The food arrived quickly and some nice options were offered to go with the toast like jam, and some Sriracha for the omlette. The prices are a little more than what you'd expect from diner food but the quality is a big step above that. I had a good breakfast for under $20 so was happy. It being so eclectic, I'm not really compelled to come back but it was a welcome respite when I needed one. read more

I give this place a high three star rating. The Good: The restaurant has solid food. We liked their specials which was the bass and lamb shoulder. They have Good champagne cocktails too. This place has a genuine Persian feel as well. Service was good. The waitress was knowledgeable about the champagne cocktails when asking for recommendations. The not so good: They charge all customers a healthcare tax of over 3% on their bill. We have never seen this before and were taken aback. 112 Eatery did not have this charge when we dined there last week! Overall this place is decent and pretty good but there's an abundance of really good dining places in the Twin Cities that don't charge their customers a healthcare tax. This place didn't stand out as being better than other places in Minneapolis but was still decent. Park on Irvine street since it's just right across the way. read more

The coffee! I am still dreaming of their decaf coffee. Our waitress was so gentle and sweet and refilled my decaf coffee have about 15 times, I swear. Fresh cream in a little, metal pitcher. White China cups for coffee. I ordered a salmon Niçoise salad, a delight! I was there with six ladies and we all enjoyed our entrées and the attentive warm service. Parking is a hassle, but then you kind of know that when you go up town. read more

Atrocious service. We were told we'd get the next open table after getting 4 open seats at the bar. After that moment we may as well have been put on a deserted island. We managed to get one drink, the sangria was undrinkable, it sat there full on the bar but no one asked about anything. I had to beg the dishwasher at the bar to get someone's attention to order French fries and 2 desserts. The fries never arrived. Our drinks sat empty, not one wait staff passing by even glanced our way. When they were getting ready to close they made sure and got us a bill. The only thing worthy of 5 stars: the crème brûlée was perfect. read more

I was in Minneapolis for a few days and Barbette was recommended. Overall it was quite good. Service was really good, the waitresses and bar staff were all really friendly. A couple things about the food. The beet and arugula salad was very tasty but it was way too much arugula and not enough beets. And the Salmon appeared to be really fresh but it was way overcooked. As mentioned above, overall it was real good, but if I go again I will ask for a few changes. read more

First time here and I loved their menu. Good amount of food, reasonably priced and ingredients felt so fresh and good. I really liked the interior too. Came here for a romantic date night. The ambiance was on-point: low lights, intimate tables, local artwork on the walls. It is French inspired, but not as froo-froo as you would expect a French restaurant to be. This one is a little more casual but so chic. Food-wise, we were most impressed by the burrata as a starter--it's show-stopping. The burger was not impressive, a little over cooked, but we probably should not have ordered a burger at a French restaurant anyway....The salade niçoise was fresh and traditionally prepared with salmon on top. Service was fabulous and the place is so romantic, so I would recommend coming here for date night or an intimate gathering with friends. Some parking available in the back alley, so you don't need to park on the street. read more

Good priced happy hour menu. Mussels were good the broth a tad salty served with 2 tiny crostini's. Service good. The Niçoise salad was so disappointing. Two tiny 2 inch pieces of tuna, no purple potatoes ( or any) for that manner as advertised on the menu. For the price versus the amount of salad served ( plate a little larger than a side salad plate ) - I was very disappointed. Perhaps I was served the $15 version vs the $17 version? Either way too pricey for the serving. read more

I was a little nervous to start back going to restaurants during corona. But Barbette has a pretty good system that made us comfortable. They're patio reservation only right now and you order at the counter and they bring the food out to your table. We ordered the Croque Madame, Burger, charcuterie (meat and cheese) plate and a bottle of wine. Everything was amazing except the charcuterie. First it came out with no cheese at all, then after we asked about the cheese they gave us two cheeses with no extra bread. It was only really enough bread for the meats (you can kinda see this). Not a big deal, but the plate just didn't seem enticing, especially for $17. All in all if I was confident that the charcuterie would be better I'd return! The service was great. read more

Expected this place to be a lot better than it was. Not a large selection of food. Beef tartare was very fatty. Wow! I wish I would have taken pictures to post, but the food found itself in my mouth before the picture was taken. I rarely every visit a restaurant twice in a quarter and I was here twice this weekend. Both times I had a craft cocktail, a gin drink called Noah's Bad Decision. So fabulous and refreshing. I also ordered the cheese & fruit plate. A great display for a reasonable price, $7.5. Both times that I was here, the service was great and the servers were knowledgeable. The restaurant was buzzy for Friday Happy Hour and calm for a Sunday evening dinner. Back to the food, for dinner I ordered the Pork and my date ordered the Roast Chicken. WOW. Both dishes were so flavorful. This might be one of the most underrated places in Minneapolis (Uptown). Excellent food and service! Portion sizes and prices were just right, and even though operations were modified in response to the current situation the service was timely and staff were friendly. Reservations were required and there was a 90 minute limit. We ordered an appetizer, or amusement, cocktails, and entrees at the host counter. We received our drinks almost as soon as we sat back down! The Artisanal Cheese was excellent. For entrees we tried the Sweet Potato Risotto and the Miso Butternut Squash Wild Rice Bowl. Portions were appropriate and again outstanding. We received entrees after finishing the appetizer unlike some restaurants that load everything on to the table at once. Went to Barbette for brunch with a friend on recommendation from a few people, and was excited to try a new place that I'd heard some buzz about. I'd looked at the menu beforehand and thought it sounded pretty good! Atmosphere was cute--I liked all the quote posters on the walls, and it had a very cafe-y feel. Wait staff was extremely attentive--honestly too much--and kept coming back every few minutes to check on us. Bloody Mary was average. I got the poached eggs--they were good, but the portion size was pretty small and it was mainly just a greens salad, though the lardon was great. My friend got the veg hash, which we expected to have a filling portion of veggies, but was quite disappointing in appearance and size. We bought hash browns and bacon to help fill us up, but those were tiny portions too. Wasn't overly impressed with the quality and quantity of food for the price. read more

Date night! We found this place in a Yelp search for some french cuisine. Or meals were delightful! The locations is just on the edge of Uptown and up the street to the east of Bde Maka Ska. A nice neighborhood to stroll through. I recommend a reservation on busy nights, be like Friday and Saturday. It's a small-ish spot but busy! There is a big round table near the front that stood out to me because of its interesting shape. Is was and almost closed C shape that could let a server walk in to the middle and take orders and serve. Smartest dining table if ever seen! The large bar is long and curves around adding more interest to the layout. The noise level is moderate, eat for one in one conversation. We were seated next to a window so it was even quieter for us. The food! We ordered a carrot ginger bisque to share as a starter, I could have eaten a whole pot if it, it was fantastic! For dinner I ordered the special, scallop and broccoli pasta, and my husband ordered the roasted mitake mushrooms. We cleaned our plates, it was delightful!
