Being a visitor from San Diego, California, I would say it is slightly better than the ayce Chinese/Japanese buffet in San Diego. We especially enjoy the chicken wings, lo mein/chau mein and the siu mai/shao mai taste like ones you find in a dim sum restaurant. The sushi looks decent bit I am afraid to eat the raw fish due to the fact that they are not put on ice on the buffet. I had a difficult time on deciding how many stars to give this place...so I went for 3 and will try and explain why. I've only been to Bamboo for lunch as I just get a kick out of these new fancy-shmancy Chinese Restaurants that are popping up serving almost the same food as you'd get for take-out, but charge you an arm and a leg for it. The lunch buffet is $13. You'll be escorted to your seat at a nice looking table with a nice looking table cloth...with chairs that are reasonably comfortable. There is no Salt-n-Pepper shaker at these tables. There is no complimentary water that comes along either. Oh, you can ask for these things...just don't assume they'll be there when you sit down. New Waitress: "Do I bring the customer water?" Owner: "You noooo bring wat-uh. Dey ask fo wat-uh...den you bring wat-uh...sell dem soda...make money...pretend no wat-uh hee-yuh" New Waitress: "Oh ok. Should I setup the salt and pepper shakers for the tables then?" Owner: "AIYEE, BANZAI! NO SALT EN PEPP-UH...DEY ASK FO IT, DEN YOU GIVE DEM" Also...I hope you're not thirsty, b/c you'll pay a fair amount if you want something like soda. No free refills here...no sir. If you're thirsty, you'll pay for another slender glass of non-brand name soda. Yes...that IS the large drink you ordered. There is only one size. If there were a small, it would be a moist napkin to sup on. The typical Chinese fare is pretty good actually, but the prize of this buffet is the sushi. It's not mind-blowing, but due to the higher price of the buffet, I think people try and eat their money's worth...so yeah, sushi is popular. The buffet itself is tucked into a tiny little alcove...and you'd better prepare to bump elbows with somebody if a new boat of sushi has just been delivered. There is no order or anything resembling organization at this buffet. Being a reasonable consumer, you'll start at one end trying to determine where the line is, but you will see THAT person. Ya know...THAT ONE person who despite all of the white collar workers, from local business that come to dine for their 1 hour lunch, coming at them from one direction, decides that THEY are going to start at the other end and work there way against the tide with an ignorant bliss. Other desperate patrons towards the back of YOUR line will witness this charade and jump in behind THAT ONE person...so now you have two lines playing "buffet leapfrog"...in that same tiny little alcove. Oh and word of warning...don't dilly-dally at the Sushi line too long either, when it's YOUR turn. Get your Soosh and get out. I actually had a woman two people behind me, while waiting for sushi, audibly sigh when I took my 6th piece of sushi. I am talking my 6th...not my 15th or anything. And I am not talking a Modest-Under-Her-Breath sigh. I am talking like a OMG-I-missed-the-Lottery-By-One-Number sigh!!! I was almost like "Lady...are you serious? WHO can't eat SIX pieces of Sushi?! I am going to stand right behind you and breathe down your neck while watching you take YOUR 6 pieces, you BEEYOTCH!". *gasps for air But I digress. So if the Sushi boats are empty...as they often are...go back to your table and wolf down another chicken wing or peking ravioli...and while you're sitting there trying to ration your sips of soda, you will feel a sudden disturbance in the force...and will sense "her". The young Chinese lady walking towards the buffet with a brandy new boat of freshly prepared Sushi on her shoulder. Watch the other patrons...because they, too, are watching her...like vultures eyeballing a lonely lost bunny in the desert. Prepare for the onslaught of eager rude foodies as you're waiting in line...prepare for gathering your sushi, wasabi, soy sauce and ginger. It's an arduous task...especially when the tiny bowls are at the end of the buffet past the sushi...but the wasabi, soy sauce and ginger are before the sushi. So you actually have to grab your sushi...move towards the little bowls after the sushi boat...only to try and track back to where the wasabi, soy sauce and ginger was before the sushi boat, to find that the next person in line isn't waiting for you. They've moved in for THEIR sushi now. "Oh yeah, remember me? The One grabbing all the sushi in front of you? Yeah, well now I am have to cut back into the line I was just leader of...cut in before some of you again so I can bowl up some of my Sushi sides...and I am feelin' just a LITTLE PUNCHY at the moment, so move it!" Grrr.... So yes...the buffet includes sushi. Just don't expect anything too exotic show up on this public showboat of sushi...just the usual rolls. Ugh...never going to Bamboo again. The last time I went was for dinner. I admit, the food is decent but why am I paying for overpriced sushi? I was almost offended when I saw on the menu that for $30, you get 9 pieces of sashimi, 5 pieces of sushi and a California roll??? WTF?!?!?! I asked the waiter to verify that and he confirmed it. Are you kidding me??? So, I ended up spending $15 for a few stupid pieces of spicy tuna because I had a craving for sushi but didn't want to spend a fortune. I used to go there for their lunch buffet during the week and each time, it's a nightmare. With the crowd of people from surrounding businesses gathering for the buffet and a tiny spot with the buffet food, it's just chaos. People line up wherever the hell they want to line up, there is no order anywhere. Again, the food is decent, but the experience just SUCKS. Why can't they just find a better place to put their buffet and figure out a way to organize the crowd for the buffet? Also, the buffet is overpriced. Last I remember, it cost around $12-$13. Meanwhile, China Pearl in Woburn costs $8 for their lunch buffet although maybe their selection is a bit less. China Pearl's buffet does come with a drink though. Oh and I almost forgot, WHO CHARGES FOR BEVERAGE REFILLS?!?!?!?!??! BAMBOO DOES!!!!! To me, this was what did it. Never going back to a place that charges for goddamn soda refills. I just assumed they provided free refills but when I saw the bill, I realized I'd be paying for 2 sodas ($1.50 each). Grabbed a midweek lunch here with some work colleagues. Had seen these places in other locations but never tried it. The place was mobbed perhaps because it sits in the middle of both corporate office parks and close to Hanscomb Air Force Base. The inside was decorated nicely and is a pretty large place. I would classify this place as nothing that blew me away, more of an upscale Super Buffet, with all the regular items and then some sushi added in. The prices were modest and can't really speak to any real service as there was not much of it around. Food tasted decent enough and was fresh, but I don't think I would go out of my way to come to one of these places. If I had other choices, especially in this area, I would choose one those over this place. This is just average Asian cuisine, nothing special. read more

I'm being generous and giving this place 2 stars. If you are looking for some Americanized Chinese food, then this place isn't so bad (though you could still do much better!). Otherwise, steer clear. Here's the run down - when you walk into the restaurant, you get a sense that you are entering into a fancy Asian restaurant (already a warning sign for those looking for the real authentic deal). Aside from 2 dining areas, there's a buffet room in the back and along the way to it, you'll pass by a sushi bar on you right. My family decided to go for the buffet except for my dad (who is vegetarian) who went for the Home-Style Tofu dish. My dad enjoyed the tofu dish -- the tofu was well cooked actually but the sauce left something to be desired for me anyways... a bit sweeter than I prefer. The buffet consisted of some traditional Chinese buffet fare - fried chicken wings (greasy), fried dumplings (tasted like beef filling... I prefer pork), chicken skewers (these were okay), crab rangoon (okay), fried veggie tempura (skipped this), beef & broccoli (drenched in brown sauce), buddhist delight (assortment of veggie's in a light white sauce) and a shrimp dish that I did enjoy (not too salty or sweet). They also had salmon skewers which would disappear as soon as they arrived (I don't eat salmon but my mom enjoyed this the most) and sui mai in bamboo steamers (not as good as what you'd get in Chinatown but prob one of the better things in the buffet for my palate). On the opposite side of the hot food island is an assortment of sushi, dipping sauces/condiments and desserts (fruits, jello and ice cream). I tried the sushi and it was a disappointment even though I already had lower expectations given it's buffet sushi. The fish wasn't quality (I had some tuna veggie roll & california roll) and the rolls were small and the rice didn't seem properly seasoned. Call me picky I suppose. For dessert, the green tea ice cream was good. If you go for the buffet, leave room for the ice cream (you'll probably have plenty of room for it anyways). read more

Chinese food is expensive in Massachusetts and I'm still not sure why. Bamboo's a nice place, but their prices are ridiculous given that the food isn't even filling. If I'm looking for gourmet Chinese food, I'd rather hit up P.F. Chang's -- at least there I know that I'll leave satisfied and happy. There are better prices and bigger portions at other local Chinese places (several of which I have reviewed), including Jade Pacific and Sichuan Gourmet. My boyfriend and I stopped in here for a quick bite after a mall trip and I'm so glad we did. It was early for dinner so the place was nice and quite. Our server was attentive. I ordered the Wonton Soup to start since it was so cold out. Simple and delicious. It was cheaper than most places but I got only two little wonton balls. The sushi was fab! I got the Crazy Maki which was perfect. I forget what he got but it had softshell crab and was also good. I'm not sure where the mediocre reviews are coming from, but I will hopefully do this restaurant adequate justice in this review. I've been to Bamboo a few times in the past couple months, and it's becoming a staple in the "where should we go out for dinner" weekend question. This restaurant has done nothing but impress from the first day that we walked in the door. The atmosphere is beautiful, like it came straight out of a design book. Each room has its own unique feel, and the atmosphere is very modern, eclectic and clean. From the handmade Asian quilts hanging in the central dining room to the bamboo chutes separating the rooms and the beautifully thought out geometric themes throughout, the environment is both tranquil and exciting from the get-go. As for the food, I really can't say enough. I've tried both the Japanese and Chinese sides of the menu, including the sushi, and everything that I've tasted has been a delight. From what I've tried so far, I highly recommend the teriyaki salmon, the chicken with asparagus, and the non-alcoholic 'coconut dream' drink. The lobster maki rolls are delicious, if a bit of a mouthful to try to eat in one bite. The crab rangoons are far from reminiscent of your usual greasy Chinese joint order, and the wait staff is courteous, attentive without hovering, and the entire meal experience is seamless from start to finish. You can watch the sushi chefs roll sushi at the sushi bar, or have a drink at the beverage bar. Each time that we go to Bamboo, I look forward to it and have never once been even slightly disappointed. It was so terrible the only reason to write a review is to warn people NOT to go there!!! The food is to expensive for what is offered. The Sushi is mediocre at best my friend told me. The service is lacking. It mirrors many other "Americanized" Oriental food places. Traditional is NOT on the menu here. If your the type of person that eats at very American Chinese food places and has no pallet for what is traditional or good or bad then this will be a 4 to 5 star place to you. If you have expectations because you love all varieties of Oriental food then you most likely will find this mediocre. I'm unimpressed, and will stay away from this place! There isn't a whole lot to say about Bamboo. It's a fancy-exotic Japanese/Chinese place out in the Burlington/Bedford 'burbs if you don't want to drive the 20 minutes into Boston. My usual spot in Woburn center was out on vacation. So, I went out on a limb to try something new. The overall ambiance has elegant dim lighting. I recently had take out sushi and I was shocked by the Maki prices. I chose the caterpillar roll and Idaho sushi. Maybe you're paying for the look and convenience. The Sushi taste itself was comparable to any other place. You get just as many (6-8 pieces, depending on which roll you choose). One "fancy roll" and one regular roll coming out to $20. I wasn't so pleased with that fact, but it was worth a try. When deciding at the front counter, I asked the young lady if they served any drinks, as well, namely Thai Tea. I understood that it's a Japanese/Chinese restaurant. She snapped at me and retorted that this is not a Thai restaurant. As I'm looking at the menu and with her logic, it appears that they also serve Crispy Pad Thai. So, I believe that I every right to ask. I didn't appreciate her attitude. So, that knocks me down a peg. This restaurant isn't quite my style. It's beautiful aesthetically, but the operation style is a complete mess. I definitely prefer the local, home restaurants, where you are treated with kindness and their hard work is shown in their creations. This place is no not worth it. It is very expensive for what it is. The food is comparable to some of those fast food take out only Chinese restaurants. I was very excited to try the buffet as they offered sushi on it. What a disappointment. They had a few rolls and the only nigiri they has was formed by a machine or something (it was square with 90 degree angles) and the tuna on top was thinner than a piece of paper. they also do not keep up with stocking the sushi on the buffet so unless you are there when they bring out a new batch you are picking scraps up off the dish. read more

My favorite Asian restaurant in the area. We have dined in at least 5 times and ordered takeout at least 5 times since moving to Burlington six months ago. It does seem pricey, when compared to your local Chinese food restaurant. However, they don't call themselves a "Fine Asian Cuisine" restaurant for nothing. Don't expect cheap prices at a restaurant with that type of name. * Alcohol * The alcoholic drinks are a bit pricey, but are well prepared. I typically get a small bottle of Japanese sake, which is expensive, but worth it. They also offer California sake, which has a weak flavor; it tastes like watered-down white wine. (Man up and get the Japanese sake.) * Ambiance * The staff was friendly and quick on their service. The restaurant is spacious, with dark colors and Asian decor. I have to say that I don't really know all that much about what "good" Chinese food is, but I will say that I thought this restaurant was decent. Nothing that really knocked my socks off, but it was a nice place to go have lunch. The setup and decor of the restaurant were fairly typical. There is a bar out front, which I'm sure probably gets a lot of action with the after work beer crowd. Seems like it would be a decent place to grab a drink. We grabbed a table for four right around noon on a Monday and there was no wait for a table. It seemed to get a little more crowded as we were leaving about an hour later, but it's hard to say what the lunch rush is like. The parking lot was definitely crowded as there are a few businesses and other restuarants in the same set of buildings. I didn't even really get a look at the restaurant's menu since I headed straight for the buffet. The buffet had all the typical things you'd find in a Chinese food buffet. However, they did have what seemed like a fairly good sushi section to the buffet. Not being a sushi eater myself, I can't really say how extensive it was, and my coworkers thought the sushi quality was average. However, I guess they get some extra points just for having it. The service was typically quick, and the wait staff was attentive as far as getting us drinks, soups, and clearing away the plates. However, as one of the other reviewers noted - they were really quick to grab your silverware. Almost like they thought we were going to steal it. Come on now... Right to the point. 4 Stars for the food. 2.5/3 stars for the service... (it is to be noted that I was with a large group) The food is quite good. Clean flavors, not too oily and tasted fresh. The scallop dishes didn't have a hint of grit which I am so thankful for. We ordered multiples of everything so we could still do family style, but also have everyone be able to try things. The sushi was brought out on one platter... maybe I'm just being finicky, but did they expect us to pass the thing around a huge mess of put together tables? I don't see how the wait staff couldn't put that one together. I put in additional orders of food and the guy litterally said, "more?" lol... not sure if that goes in the negative or positive so lets stick with neutral Weird thing they do... for tea, they charge for how many cups you ask for, not per pot... strange. I've been to too many crappy Chinese/Japanese buffets with poor and disgusting selections to know that Bamboo's small but great buffet selection is worth 4 stars (3.6 to be exact). I've only had the buffet here like most of the reviewers. There are few indicators to see if this is a 3.6 star worthy Chinese buffet. First check if maki rolls are actually stuffed with descent sized sushi. If it's filled with 95% white rice and few random vegetables, you know you are gonna have a rough lunch. Bamboo, your sushi selections are awesome for the price. Second, check the price: $13. That's solid. All you can eat for $13 is as good as it gets. Third, check the atmosphere: It's one of the largest and cleanest Asian restaurants I've been too. It actually looks like a high end Chinese/Japanese restaurant. That's always a plus. Finally, food: everything is above average, slightly less greasier and taste better than your typical chinese buffets. The buffet hours are limited and it's quite the trek from the city, but if you find yourself in the neighborhood for some reason, check it out. It was $20.95 for Sunday dinner buffet. There was a good variety from General Gau's Chicken, to baked mussels to chicken wings to coconut shrimp to every-other-generic-Chinese-dish and the quality of the food was pretty average. The sushi and shrimp cocktail were below average unfortunately. Not very fresh, not very tasty. Also no soup to be found though I didn't bother asking so maybe I missed it. A pleasant surprise was seeing that the ice cream was from Richardson's! (apple crisp and green tea). Servers did a good job topping off water and clearing plates. Holy Mother Lunch Crowd! Came here for a work lunch ~11:30 thinking we'd beat the lunch crowd, but the buffet line was wrapped around the corner! We thought we were being smart ordering off the menu instead, but it actually took way longer to get our food than to wait out the buffet line. Believe me - I was watching. Plus the waitress gave my soup/salad to someone else. :'( The food was, as Yelp would put it, "A-OK". I was expecting pretty bad sushi given that this is a buffet place, but it actually wasn't bad. A Chinese and Japanese restaurant with modern decor and it actually plays Asian music! The food is only adequate as most of the dishes had flaws (pasty texture when supposed to be crispy, a tad dry, overly salty etc). Ordered some maki rolls - spicy crunchy tuna. It was only OK as the tuna was chopped up and mushy and not a solid chunk of fish. Also, there was avocado in it which takes away from the crunchy part. Got takeout here this past weekend and was very satisfied. The only complaint I have is the crab rangoons, definitely a disappointment. The hot and sour soup is very good here, the sushi is delicious and super fresh tasting, and the other dishes we got were great! This is my in laws favorite place to dine and we actually had our wedding rehearsal dinner here three years ago. It's a nice space with delicious dinners and a good family vibe. I'm here often due to the love from my in laws, hence my three stars. The buffet is boring and that's what they love the most. The sushi they offer is only 3-4 options, and they never change the buffet menu. The other reason for my 3 star review is their service. Especially during lunch they don't seem quite attentive. I have been a faithful customer of Bamboo since the restaurant opened, but I am really disappointed with the treatment I recently got from the manager. Three times now I have been given the wrong takeout order, and most recently (Friday) the manager took my order and I was given an order of shu mai rather than chow mein. When I called and talked to him about replacing the order, he proceeded to argue with me and tell me that I ordered shu mai instead and kept arguing with me, never once apologizing or offering me a replacement dish. He even denied that the restaurant offers chow mein even after I told him that I had gotten the dish there before! He was rude and uncompromising, and I will find a more accommodating restaurant in the future. He shouldn't be a manager, or he should go for more managerial training on customer relations. There was only one waiter ( very rude ) serving about 6 tables He took 40 minutes to bring our credit cards back after the bill was paid. In my visits to Bamboo Restaurant, I have ordered the following at one time or another: Shrimp Fried Rice, General Gau's chicken (Mild), Lo Mein Noodles, Chicken & Broccoli in a Brown sauce, and Boneless Spareribs. The Shrimp Fried Rice is a great dish. The shrimp is not overcooked and the rice is also cooked and seasoned well. I can't say much else about this dish, because I don't purchase it too often. The General Gau's chicken is hit or miss, but mostly hit. The only misses are when the chicken is dried out and marginally overcooked, but luckily this occurs few and far between. The dish, without clarifying hot or mild, is hot. The heat isn't exceedingly hot, but it packs a punch. I order this dish as mild, and it is just as good without the heat. The Lo Mein noodles has to be one of the best dishes at Bamboo. I realize it's just noodles, but these are ridiculously good. I order this dish without any kind of meat or vegetables. It's perfect. I would say it's a great vegetarian option, but I'm not sure how it's prepared, but I'm sure if you ask the staff they'll let you know if it is good for vegetarians. The Chicken & Broccoli in a brown sauce is a classic dish and is another great dish at Bamboo. It normally comes in a white sauce, which isn't bad either, but the brown sauce, in my opinion, tastes much better. I highly recommend this if you're looking for a vegetable/protein dish. Lastly, the Boneless Spareribs. Now this dish isn't the healthiest of options, but it is one of my favorites. The right amount of sweet combined with the savoriness of the meat is simply a fantastic combination. I suggest you share this dish, or have some leftovers because it can get addictive! Bamboo is a great Asian cuisine restaurant. They can make various portions with proper time notifications (I've ordered their food for many a party and it was just as delicious) and their Chinese food is so delicious that it will surely make the speed dial list. This place is pretty disgusting. I didn't have high expectations for a Chinese buffet but this place was just nasty. Not only taste, which was mostly your typical oily breaded meats, but also its a tiny selection of items. The best part of the meal was the ice cream dessert. $14.45 before tip is an outrage. First, let's be clear: I've only been to this place for the lunch buffet and probably would only go for the lunch buffet. I imagine that coming here for dinner or ordering off the menu would be a bit expensive and not give you good value for your money. But for the lunch buffet? This is the best one in the area. The Americanized Chinese dishes are okay. They're a bit MSG-ey, but that's to be expected, and it's not as bad as a lot of other places. Usually. Preparation is somewhat inconsistent. The sushi isn't top-notch, but there's a good selection and you're not constrained by the price of the delicious tempura rolls. A good variety of dishes and even some dessert items means that you'll have something to eat no matter what mood you're in. The decor is actually quite impressive. Snazzy building materials and cool, modern design throughout. So if you wanted to have a business lunch here, it would work great. If you don't get there early, you'll be waiting in line for a long time for the main buffet (although I usually hit the main buffet first, and stick to the less-crowded sushi boats by the time it's getting busy). It starts getting crowded around 11:30, and by 11:45 or so the line can be as long as the buffet. One of my friends points out that it's always the skinny people holding up the buffet line, poring over what they're going to have; the fat people just dump stuff on their plates. Anyway, just order the buffet and let the many waiters fill up your drinks. They're all very good: attentive when you need something, out of the way when you don't. When my coworkers and I are in the mood for Chinese buffet, this is where we go. The only other similar place in the Route 3 area is Feng Shui in Chelmsford, and Bamboo does it better. read more

Second time I been here. First time was years ago and I wasn't impressed back then. All I remember was that the chicken wings I got here were tiny, overcooked and dripping with 30 weight oil. If I need a fluid change on my truck I would have saved it. Today I went to lunch there for takeout, been getting bored with the usual fare around where I work. I Got the House rice, it was $10.00. (One reason I probably haven't frequented this place more often.) Went in placed my order, didn't take more than 5 minutes, not sure if that's good or bad. The greeter who brought it out to me didn't even bother to speak to me, he just aimed the bag at me with this scowl on his face. Then when I said thank you, he never said anything. Take some more courtesy classes there buddy. It was a good sized portion, hot and tasty, but instead of pieces of ham it was chopped up boneless ribs. I don't mind that but every one was the texture consistency of chewed up bubble gum not to mention all fat. Inedible, spit them out. They also put pieces of beef in it which is unusual for that particular dish. That meat was grey and tasted like it was a day old. I picked them out and separated it from the rest. Not too much chicken was in it either. So after all the bad meat was taken out, I was left with a dish of rice and very few vegetables. Was this experience worth $10.00? Nope. Will I ever go back? Nope. Do I give them more than one star? Nope. :-) read more

I ate Dinner at Bamboo before and the sushi was excellent along with the peanut chicken dinner plate. I also attended the lunch buffet hoping for good sushi but unfortunately it was mostly vegetables with enough fish to see under a microscope, otherwise the food was very good at the buffet. read more

The food there was awesome but pricey and some of the dipping sauces is salty like salty enough to drink a cupful of water the beef there is chewy very chewy read more

The gyoza was awful, and the sushi was alright but nothing exciting. We had multiple sushi rolls and non of them were great. I was still wanting good sushi after my meal. The gyoza needed to be cooked correctly and has terrible filling inside. read more

The restaurant was very clean and the waitstaff was attentive. Other than that, however, I can't say much for this restaurant. My white wine was served in a red wine glass, the fish is "delivered 3x/week" but it was clearly not very fresh. We ordered the $19 toro and it looked like spam. 4 slices of rectangular pale pink slimy meat that tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. When we went to order dessert, we were presented with a menu of 8 or so items and told only three were available. We ordered one of each and they were very freezer burnt and they tried to mask it with canned whip cream. Really unimpressed. I wouldn't ever recommend this place. read more
