So for the last nine months, I have been working in Redmond and it seems like the quality of the food is going down. The atmosphere at the Redmond location is great. I stay in Bend and I stopped in tonight and spent 36.00 bucks and asked for this cherry crisp pie and the kid behind the counter every asked the owner if they still carried it because he wasn't sure and they went and looked and of course they did have it when I got back to my hotel, it states it comes with vanilla ice cream. I didn't get my vanilla ice cream. Now the reason, I know that it was the owner because I've seen him at the Redmond one a lot. Well, they're making it. I go to use the restroom. The dispenser for your paper towels almost fell off the wall. There was no paper towels in it. I let them know that I had to use toilet paper to wipe my hands off with. I don't think I'll ever go back was not one of my greater experiences there which is really sad because nine months ago when I first started coming over and working in Redmond it was the place to go. I went every day for lunch so that being said, I will go back to Redmond, after my experience here at Bend. read more

I just don't understand why this place has low reviews. The BBQ is fantastic! The sides are great! I see people complaining about portion size, but baby back ribs are just that - BABY. We get a full rack of ribs plus two sides and it feeds two of us easily with several ribs as leftovers all for under $30 even with upgraded sides. That's a great deal for dinner for 2! Mac and cheese is creamy smooth and tastes awesome with the addition of bacon and we LOVE the baked beans. Go get some ribs - you won't be disappointed!! read more

I have gone to Baldy's since they opened. Over the years the ribs seemed to get skimpier and skimpier. Tonight, however, was a new low. I had a half rack delivered and it was pitiful. Six bones with barely any meat on them. On the largest bone was meat so tough it felt like jerky. I tried to write to them directly but their email comment page no longer works. Really enjoyed their baby back ribs. They were large portion, gave you the top layer of meat too. Tender and sweet. Good smoke ring. Sauces were sold (not the best I've had but very strong flavor). The pullpork sandwich was strong contender moist and good flavor. Definitely come back. read more

Picked up my $50+ dinner of Special Full Rack of baby backs, an order of smoked wings, an entire beef plate... I arrived on time, and all of it cold...the wings were just like out of the fridge. Never had an experience like this on the East side location. On top of this, the "full rack" of ribs must've been from a suckling pig. Covid isn't an excuse. The food is pretty good, my complaint is the portion size for the price. When you make it a $7 up charge for brisket on your Mac and cheese, load that ish up! I expect $22 in brisket mac to be more impressive than this. I hope for those that eat in that the portions are not as disappointing. read more

It was pretty late on a Monday and all we had eaten all day was a stale bagel and some cheddar sunchips. We were snipping at each other and I was considering selling Princess to the gypsies. Or eating my right arm. Or both. The first place I saw to eat was Baldys and I remembered bookmarking it on Yelp so we were in! Princess wanted to get takeout. I wanted to be waited on. I won. She refused to order and said she wouldnt eat. Sigh. Our server was lovely. She brought me beautiful iced tea and both of us water and left us to power struggle. In the end I just chose things I knew shed like. She wound up with a huge green salad with basalmic, an add on slab of smoked salmon ( it was big!!) And corn pudding. I make that at Thanksgiving every year. This was slightly better than mine. Also a yummy strawberry lemonade in a mason jar with real strawberry puree. Tasty. She inhaled the salmon and ate about half of the rest. Win. I got a half a smoked chicken, baked beans, and coleslaw. It was hard to choose--their menu is big and everything sounded good. I was very happy with my dinner. The chicken didnt need sauce. It was tender and smoky. I thought it might be too much but it was just right. We sat on their patio which has booths! Awesome. The only thing holding back the fifth star was service wound down as they got close to closing time and I didnt get my tea refilled and we waited a long time to get boxes. Minor stuff really. Yum. M & I met up with some friends that live in Bend, I love BBQ, and was looking forward to it. We had a short wait on a Thursday night. it was a little muggy inside, I'm not sure if they have ac. I noticed people picking up takeout orders. They have beer on tap, awesome. I had a half rack of ribs. It came with cornbread, beans and slaw, my server recommended au gratin potatoes as my potato choice. M had the brisket but I was too busy eating to try his, he enjoyed it. We ordered a full rack of baby back ribs and brisket with 3 sides. The ribs were tough and dry, definitely seemed overcooked. They were slathered with lots of bbq sauce but that didn't make them more tender or moist. The brisket was okay but not great. The sides were good but we were definitely disappointed in the ribs. Based on the other reviews posted here, it seems to be "hit or miss" on whether you get a good meal here. read more

Great little, literally, BBQ joint in Bend. The service was ok, the staff was friendly, the dining area was quite cramped and tiny but clean and the bathrooms were clean and neat. Ordered the enormous plate that had a little bit of everything on it: pulled pork, beef brisket, half a smoked chicken, and a full slab of ribs, along with three sides of our choosing: jalapeno cornbread, coleslaw, and baked beans. The service was a little slow, it seemed as if others who were seated after us were receiving their orders before us. Our food was served to us below room temp, still tasted delicious and we didn't want to send it back for fear of having to wait longer or having the food tossed into the microwave. Overall, food tasted good and the service was ok. If given the option I would try to find another place next time. There was definitely not a "wow-factor" !! read more

At the last minute we needed to put together food for a small gathering of our sons friends. My wife called Baldy's around noon and we had a complete meal ready for pick up at 5:00. We got four pounds of their smoked chicken and four pounds of their pulled pork. We also ordered two quarts each of their baked beans and slaw. To go with the meat we ordered buns and their sweet sauce. Our order was boxed and ready to go at 5:00 when I arrived. Everything was packaged and wrapped in foil to keep warm. All of our guests loved the food from Baldy's and most went back for seconds. I really enjoyed the smoked chicken. It was a mix of both dark and white meat shredded perfectly. Shout out to the manager who helped my wife with the order. They helped make a last minute get together a good time for all. read more

A family favorite. The turkey and chicken are both great, the pulled pork is solid. However, two meats stand out: the brisket and the ham. The brisket is perfectly seasoned, well-cut with just the right amount of fat, and smoked to perfection. The ham, by contrast, is the exact opposite. It's horribly salty, with awkward chunks of fat/gristle, and barely touched by that delicious smoky flavor signature to barbeque. The portions are decent, large for a restaurant, small for a barbeque pit. The sauce is good but not great. However, this place is definitely consistent. Over years and years of occasional visits, the quality remains constant in every regard. I definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area. read more

Use to be a fan of Baldy's and have gone to both the East side & West side locations over the last several years. Live by the West side location, and it was closed for many months, but recently re-opened, but for take-out only. Decided to give it a try again, and figured since it was only take-out, service would be efficient and food would be good. Was told I could pick up food (Ribs and Brisket) at 5:35 which is when I arrived. Sadly, the order wasn't ready until 5:50. Got food home just a few minutes after picking it up, and both the ribs and brisket have gone downhill. Ribs were quite small compared to times in the past, and the brisket was quite dry. Might try the East side location to give Baldy's another shot to see if dining in is better compared to take-out only. Fingers are crossed. But if not a notch above, I'll be saying no more to Baldy's. read more

The staff is consistently excellent and provides prompt and friendly service even when they're inundated with customers. Five stars because it is currently the ONLY place to get BBQ in Bend. I hear Country Catering has BBQ but to me, it's not their specialty like Baldy's. And i hear there is a good place in Sisters...but that's not Bend. I am eager to try it though. We've seen some BBQ joints come and go over the years...with Baldy's even forcing out the old standby: "Kasey's" which had decent ribs, but made you wonder if they ever had the health department pay a visit because that place NEEDED to go. Yikes! That place was scary. But back to Baldy's. I love BBQ. And will generally pick a rib joint as a must try restaurant for any new town we visit. As one reviewer said, "It's not the best BBQ" and while true, please refer to my opening statement: "It's the only BBQ in Bend" and it is very good. To be fair, we've not frequented Baldy's for some time (gonna have to remedy that....maybe today) so this review is going to be a bit dated. However in reading other YELPERS comments I cannot disagree with much that has been said. I will add my two cents on some though: For the person who ordered steak. Nope. Wouldn't do it here and I agree....probably shouldn't even be offered on the menu. Stick to what a place like this is known for: BBQ. I'm not surprised at your disappointment. But I did read it was a pan seared rib-eye. In theory it should be good. Still, when I want a good steak, I go to a steakhouse. The buttermilk onion rings....we love 'em. Especially with the honey mustard dressing. Pulled pork sammis...sorry, sandwiches...also very yummy. The beef brisket sandwich too. Need to try those smothered fries. Those sound like they are to die for and I've never had 'em. But here is the lowdown, go with the baby back ribs. Everything else is just window dressing. If a place like this fails on the most basic of BBQ----baby back ribs----then it fails 100% and Baldy's serves up some mighty fine baby back ribs. When my son graduated from high school, we hired Baldy's to do the catering and they did an outstanding job at a very reasonable price. "Baldy" himself (aka: Brian) did the set up and tear down with no hassle and no worries. It was fabulous with lots of compliments on the food. Highly recommend their catering services. "Baldy" (aka: Brian) is also a big supporter of community events and causes being a regular donor to our local NJROTC unit. Thank you, Brian! Service? Yeah....I would agree with other reviewers. Can be hit and miss. I think when Brian is there, it's a hit. When he's not...well...as the saying goes: "When the boss is away, the kids will play". As with any small business like this where the owner is such a vital part to it's success, when "Baldy" is there....you are going to have a fine meal with outstanding service. When he's not, chances are it will be lacking. I hate that for him because even he needs a day off, right? Parking can be complicated due to the shared lot with the used furniture store. If it's after their regular business hours you should be fine. But park in one of their spots while they are open and you could be towed. The place can also be a bit loud, especially if it's hopping and it's crowded. So don't PLAN on a nice quiet meal here. During the warmer months, the patio seating on the deck is nice. UPDATE--- Went here last night because it's been awhile and I had to try those smothered fries after reading other reviews. The place was hopping and "Baldy" was there. Great sight to see in this economy. Looked like everybody was having a good time and people were enjoying their food. I know we sure did. Didn't get the fries after all. I wanted to, but "wifey" said: "No, a full rack of baby back ribs is enough for you!" She was right. I walked away stuffed. Service was very attentive and we had no complaints.
