Brisket

First time to Baldy's. Seating is like a picnic with high top and low picnic style seating. We had a party of 11 family and service was good. They were out of the catfish, so I ordered the ribs and chicken combo with coleslaw and jalapeno cornbread plus a side of chili, that we shared. I tried their spicy margarita, sadly even with added jalapeños, it was not spicy. The flavor was tangy and a little sweet. I liked it regardless of it not being spicy. The chili was a bit spicy, smokey flavored and hearty with beans, peppers and meat, accompanied by onions, sour cream, cheese and cornbread. I would order this again. The ribs were cooked perfectly, the meat just fell off the bone. Smothered in bbq sauce that was tangy and delicious. I added some spicy bbq sauce from the table to jazz it up a bit. The chicken was disappointing. The breast meat was tough and rubbery, I couldn't even chew it. The leg and thigh meat was cooked well. I think the breast side needed to be cooked awhile longer to get more tender and juicy as they advertise. The coleslaw was crunchy with a nice dressing, not too sweet or runny. The jalapeno cheesy cornbread had no jalapenos in it that I could find. Although the bread itself was good, again I was disappointed that there were no jalapeños to be found. The pulled pork was a little dry yet flavorful. The brisket was also a little dry but with good flavor. I liked most of the meal and would recommend others to give it a try, I personally would not go back. I will seek out some other bbq places to try.

Unfortunate Experience @ Baldy's BBQ in Redmond, OR. 1st Problem: The Prime Rib was just horrible. No way around it, tough and chewy, and we politely asked for something else. We were satisfied and happy that Conner, our host/bartender/server was gracious throughout our time here. He took the prime rib off the bill (rightfully so) and checked in on us thoroughly. 2nd Problem: As a replacement for the horrible Prime Rib, we asked for the Brisket Burnt Ends. What a mistake! It was covered in a questionable teriyaki glaze and sesame seeds, of all things... (not BBQ sauce like the menu states) we could have just gone to a Thai restaurant if we were looking for a decent Asian inspired flavor on more tender meat. The smothered fries for an appetizer were good. The pulled pork sandwich was just okay and the side salad was basic, but did have a tasty balsamic dressing to elevate it. The coleslaw and cornbread were pretty good, but the beans were not. The bar area was decent, except for the Problem 3: blaring music which made it hard to have a decent conversation, but good if you aren't? Also, the bathroom Problem 4: doesn't have any paper towels, only a 'hand dryer', which is gross. So yeah, one of us had an okay meal, the other was.... Biggest Problem: up all night in the bathroom... because of the Prime Rib and Brisket Burnt Ends. You've been warned. We won't be returning.

Brisket, garlic mashers, & honey jalapeño cornbread. Pork ribs were brought a little later.

Food 3.5* Service 4* Ambiance 2* Meat was well smoked, then covered in mediocre bbq sauce. I understand the Kansas City tradition (though I prefer Texas), but BBQ sauce should be more interesting than spicy ketchup. Garlic mashers were quite good, but cornbread would have been better without jalapeños. Also, they serve the butter frozen solid so it never really thaws during the meal. Butter should be kept at room temperature! Service was friendly and quickly corrected an error before I had even mentioned it. Decor is typical for a BBQ restaurant and there are tvs with a good variety of sports on, but the inane country music destroys any semblance of pleasantness. I don't live country music in general, but what they had playing is just bad pop music with a southern twang - the worst of all possible musical worlds. Overall, not my scene but I'm sure it fits many people's expectations, so YMMV.

Prime time Rib!!!!

I had a great experience at Baldy's with an impressive building, delicious food, quick service, and a super kind and caring staff! Don't miss the prime rib, brisket, burnt ends, Hazy IPA, or corn pudding! Jazzy and Leah most definitely made my experience memorable! Yes I ate here Saturday and Sunday post/pre festival and took some home for later both times!

Great food and excellent service. Love the rustic ambiance. It perfectly fits a rib joint. The outdoor dining space was gorgeous.

The ribs are very good. However, be aware that if you get takeout, they always, always forget the drinks and you have to remind them.

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. We were surprised to find an empty parking lot and wondered if…read morethe place was even open. We walked in to find a mostly empty restaurant (2 other tables seated). The atmosphere felt more like it was suited for a nice dinner date than a casual lunch but whatever - they're open for lunch. When I asked a friend about it later, he said he and his wife go there for dinner but had never been at lunch time. My buddy ordered the Grinder (essentially an Italian) and I ordered the Beef Sando (essentially their take on a French Dip). My buddy, who self-admittedly doesn't like focaccia, said the bread was awesome and sando in general really good. We both really enjoyed the fries, that were well seasoned in a savory and slightly sweet dusting. The abundance of fries was well appreciated as well. The beef sando was tasty and also a good portion. My only complaint was the thinly shaved beef was laid flat in layers instead of mounded on the sandwich (see pic). I hesitate to even say this, but it felt like I was eating Steak-umm. In general, the meal was good and filling. The service was good and value for price felt good.

It was not busy, full of empty tables, at 4:30pm and we quickly ordered before happy hour ended at 5pm. Food was $1 off though my cocktail did not get discounted $1 even though it said so on the website. We got albacore ceviche, cheddar bay fritters, beef carpaccio, 2 pork belly sliders, and zeppole. I tried the tea in the high desert cocktail which was fairly herbal with hints of tea, which was okay. Albacore ceviche - good portions with a good amount of chips. The albacore was fairly fresh and it was very flavorful and a bit tangy. This dish itself was fairly filling. Cheddar bay fritters - a bit dry and heavy for my liking Beef carpaccio - love the usage of chili oil which enhanced a typical dish into another level Pork belly sliders - delicious and great value at $3 each. It was so good I got an extra one for myself and even though it was 5:04pm, they still honored happy hour pricing! Zeppole - decent, also a bit dry, but the sweet strawberry sauce somewhat compensated for it. I love that the food came out quickly and service was speedy. This was what we needed while we jam packed our itinerary to try to see as many places as possible.

The staff are very sweet and mellow, which is nice in the morning. The market is nice, decently priced, full of artisan gifts and trinkets, some hygiene supplies if you need them, and great grab and go snacks; a few highlights of the variety of options include Rogue CBD water (hard to find!), Justin's nut butter treats, Honey Mama truffle bars, pints of local ice cream (including one vegan flavor), and Kettle Chips in some of the best flavors! They also sell beer, wine, and cider, if that's your thing. This morning I got coffee elsewhere but had the Broken Top breakfast burrito in a GF wrap in the cafe and it was fabulous. I forgot to take a photo of the burrito until halfway through the other half of this thing but snagged one of the other side. Tomorrow I plan to try the coffee, smoothie, and breakfast sandwich on GF bread and will update! UPDATE: the sandwich and coffee are delicious! Not pictured is the blueberry basil smoothie. Once you step inside you are transported to a killer brew pub dimension. The place was moderately busy for 1:30 on a Wednesday and we were immediately greeted by the bartender. George 3-way. I have been away from Oregon Craft for about a year so I am a little off my game but I didn't leave a drop in those pint glasses. We both ordered the smash burger and fries with some jalapeño aioli sauce. The fries were maybe the best fries I've ever had. I literally put my head down and chowed through them all before realizing I had a burger too. Smash burger is true to form dressed with melted cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. The bun had been fried in magic sauce to a crispy texture before they built the burger. We were blown away at how good it was!!
