I was here with my family and this was one of the best meals of the trip. Now, I was here a few months ago, but I only recently downloaded yelp. As a celiac, I made so that they have a dedicated fryer for their fries/tater tots, and they did, so naturally I had to get those. I decided on the sweet potato tots and they were just delectable. I was also craving something fresh, so I got the BBQ Chicken bacon ranch salad. Perfect meal after driving for hours on end. We even came back the next day and I got the exact same meal. We thought we would try some different places for burger week. No problem any place other than here. We were greeted and seated promptly in the almost empty place. The waiter returned with water and advised us of a few items that were not available. We ordered the burger week item which he had not mentioned. He then told us that they were "sold out" of that because they had sold 125 the day before (Tuesday). Haha. Hahaha. Hahahaha. Judging by the absence of clientele, I doubt that they had sold 125 of anything in the entire week before. How does a "brewpub" run out of burgers? And if it was "sold out", why didn't the waiter mention that when he was giving his spiel (maybe because it was because it was listed at full price on the menu)? Pants on fire? We've been going here for years for the burgers and fries. The fries alone were worth the trip. I'm not sure if this place got bought out or new management took over, but the entire menu changed for the worse. Want a burger? It'll be a smash burger. No option for a normal patty. Nowhere on the menu does it say that all of their burgers are smash patties, but that's what I was told. The special for the evening was "a smash burger with fries and two beers" which seems redundant, as *all* of the burgers are smash patties. Want a plain Jane cheeseburger cooked medium rare? Move along, not an option. Now the super sad part: the fries. Their once glorious fries (that used to be included with burgers) are now a $4 EXTRA, as all menu items are now a la carte (?!). The worst part: they changed the fries to something...else. Google image search what fries look like. That is precisely *not* what you'll be getting. For that extra $4 you'll be getting about 3/4 of a potato sliced THIN and fried crispy. These are just thick potato chips, and they definitely don't give you a surplus of them. Pictured is the full amount that came on my tray. Whatever happened to this place needs to unhappen. Sadly, knowing what Initiative used to offer, we won't be returning. Server was rude, short and unpleasant. The food was ok. The CB I had was good and so were the fries. My husband had the Pulled Pork and did not like it. It was very overcooked. They did offer to remake it but we didn't want to wait for the food again. The owner said they would see how else they could compensate they didn't. Yelp led us to this spot and at first glance from the outside I thought we were walking in to an old bank. They have a cool outdoor spot, but the weather was chilly that day. Once you step inside you are transported to a killer brew pub dimension. The place was moderately busy for 1:30 on a Wednesday and we were immediately greeted by the bartender. We analyzed the tap list and narrowed it down quickly to the 3 IPAs brewed by these guys. We ended up trying all 3 and overall I would give the beer an 8 out of 10. I love a Boneyard RPM or Ft. George 3-way. I have been away from Oregon Craft for about a year so I am a little off my game but I didn't leave a drop in those pint glasses. We both ordered the smash burger and fries with some jalapeño aioli sauce. The fries were maybe the best fries I've ever had. I literally put my head down and chowed through them all before realizing I had a burger too. Smash burger is true to form dressed with melted cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. The bun had been fried in magic sauce to a crispy texture before they built the burger. We were blown away at how good it was!! We went to Sunriver Brewing on Wednesday night and think Initiative won our personal award for that day!! Popped into Initiative Brewing one night this week while working in Madras. If you were wondering, the 45 minute drive is worth it. I usually go for a burger, but last night I took a chance on the special - a fried chicken sandwich with barbecue sauce and hot honey. I can never finish the fries that accompany my meal because I've already wolfed down a plate of kimchi fries before my meal gets there. The service was incredible and quick. We had the kindest server who seemed to genuinely care about his work. Initiative has a great list of cocktails, but I always opt for an old fashioned; this one featured Maker's Mark. I can't say when I'll find myself in Madras again, but when I do, I'll be hitting this place up again. read more

An excellent brewery and restaurant in the heart of Redmond is Initiative Brewing. To be honest I had heard mixed things about coming here, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time and hope to make it back soon. The main part of town is a bit south, which is where the other breweries are clustered- this one is a bit further away but worth the drive or extra walk. It's located in what looks like an old bank or former restaurant, which large outdoor seating area, plus a sun parlor area out front, merchandise display on walls separating this, and a traditional bar and seating area inside. They also have a second floor area for events that overlooks the brewery and restaurant below. We were seated in an area with larger parties close to kitchen closing time. Thankfully we got to eat here as the shrimp rice bowl was a highlight meal of my stay in Redmond. Portions are large with fresh produce, well worth the reasonable price. Their selection of beer was large and eclectic, I loved all the styles I chose and only wish I could've stayed for a second flight. If you're in town or passing through, it's well worth the time to stop in. read more

I have eaten at Initiative Brewing a couple of times for lunch and enjoyed it. I kept telling my wife about it. I finally had the opportunity to take her there this past weekend. The bonus-we got to sample some beers since I wasn't there for work. We each had a Tzatziki sandwich with fries. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the pita was very soft and flavorful. The only thing I would change would be to add some additional Mediterranean seasonings to the sandwich, otherwise it was very good. Their ranch dressing is excellent as well. The beer: I'm really into getting flights and seeing what a brewery has to offer and Initiative has some good ones. I got a sample of the Wandering Dog Golden Ale, Gemini Amber, Shane-ful Imperial Red Ale and a Nightmare of 5th St. Black Lager. They were all good and matched the menu description spot on, which I appreciated. The service was excellent and we didn't have to wait for anything. Our waitress was on top of things without being all over us and we were never rushed. Overall the evening was fantastic and we are looking forward to returning and sampling other menu items and beers. read more

Initiative Brewing squeezes in right in at four stars thanks to their food. Wasn't terribly awed with the beer. Their Burly Blonde was ok but wasn't terribly memorable and for the Redmond/Bend area competition is pretty significant with the craft beer scene here so "memorable " is pretty important. Steve and I split the Asian Nachos and they were pretty good. An Asian Fusion spin was put on these so you got ingredients like edemame mixed in with tortilla chips that were house made. Service was OK. A bit on the slow side but we could tell it was because they were under staffed like so many other businesses and companies right now. read more
