We are a long time Baldys Redmond customer. We did take out on a weekly basis during COVID to help them stay busy. However, I cannot say how disappointed I am in their service recently. We went with friends for dinner2 weeks ago. We were seated with beverages and then told we couldn't order and food for 45 minutes due to all the takeout orders they had....SERIOUSLY??? Mind you the restuarant was busy and others were Having to wait as well. When it was nearing 40 minutes we asked if we could order, and told no, another 30 minutes. We paid for our beverages and left. I totally get that there is a shortage in staffing, etc and try to be extra patient with slowness in ordering, etc. I think telling us up front would have been appropriate. And serve your dine in customers first. We will not be back. Very disappointed. read more

So we have been going to baldys for a number of years now and I've always enjoyed it. This evening was a little different. I got their macaroni and cheese and after about five bites, found a little curly cue of metal in the macaroni and cheese. Reported it to the waitress told her that I wasn't going to finish it and I would like to not have to pay for it. She said she would go talk to her manager. I waited. She finally came back and then without saying anything without seeing the manager or an apology of what so ever. I paid for the remaining portion of the meal and left. The staff seemed to care more about laughing and joking with eachother than the customers in their establishment. We went our entire meal without our waitress checking on us. We had no drinks, she didn't bring us extra plates as requested for the appetizers we ordered so we all just sorta picked at one plate with our fingers. Service was quick and polite but the positives basically end there. Flavor was alright but the portion was significantly underwhelming. The "full rack" quite possibly could set a record for the smallest "full rack" known to man. For $20 this simply wasn't worth it. Proper ribs, especially smoked, take a long time. So it's completely understandable these were clearly cooked in advance and reheated... what's not ok is the dry small portioned meat provided. Spend your $20 on some McRibs or jerky and you will be just as, if not more, satisfied. The fries and au gratin potatoes I got as sides were par for this mediocre course. Tonight I needed dinner for several people so I ordered their extravaganza! They give you quite a bit of meat and all the different types. What made me furious was the sides. It's says it's supposed to be for 3-4 people. The sides each one was only enough for one person. One serving of salad, only 2 slices of corn bread, a very small container of both mashed potatoes and baked beans. We have a ton of meat left and not one side. read more

The server when asked was extremely unprofessional and flippant and responded with" well burgers do take longer to cook" I finally was able to ask a another server who went to check for us and was told that the order was never entered. But hey as we were told by our original server " I'm busy, I have a lot to do" Pathetic that it's ok to say you don't care about your customers and your above just saying I'm sorry how can I make this right? The meat was yummy and all the sides were delicious. 2 of us had the Sinister Black beer and 1 had a Mexican inspired mixed drink, I think called South of the Border? All drinks were fabulous!! My wife and I are biannual visitors to the Redmond area and have, once in the past, enjoyed the barbeque options that Baldys had to offer. We were not necessarily wowed by the experience, but good-enough barbeque is still barbeque. They were a small concern in a shopping center strip mall (in the Fred Meyer parking lot) a few years back but have since moved to a better location on 6th St. in Redmond. I am not sure what happened in the transition, but it ain't good. We decided to eat there today (08/13/2023) on our way back from Smith Rock. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who took our order in a very timely and respectful manner. I anxiously awaited a Brisket Plate. I should have sent it back to the kitchen as soon as I saw that my and my wife's brisket plate was drenched in barbeque sauce. This is a telltale move that the brisket is dry (and I am not talking about the lean/wet brisket paradigm) and needs to be disguised....and it was DRY. I realize that there is a range of what people consider to be acceptable brisket, and this was not on that scale at all. My whole family got sides of the jalapeño honey cornbread, and it was pretty clear (based on the chewiness) that it was old and had been microwaved. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good and had a nice toasted bread-crumb topping. We never were approached for refills on drinks (until we got our check) or to ask about our meal. I didn't complain at the restaurant as there really is nothing to be done about bad brisket unless you are willing to wait 12 hours (or as was likely the case here, much less at too high a temperature). Also, the barbeque sauce was so Worcester sauce heavy that it tasted like something that Lea & Perrins made themselves. I know that this is a family-owned chain, and I would love to see them succeed, so I hope they fix it. read more

I wish there were good BBQ places here in Central Oregon, but I have yet to find them. I've had Baldys BBQ on different occasions at each of their locations between Bend and Redmond. Each time it wasn't my choice on going. I really like the atmosphere and the staff at the Redmond location were really nice, but with the dryness of the ribs and the lack of flavor in the mac n cheese, I have to give this place 3 stars. I really hope to go here next time a friend or colleague wants to go and to be able to change this review. read more

Stopped in for a quick late lunch. Waitress brought samples of the porter and cider on tap. So tasty we ordered 1 of each. We had the half pork half beef open face sandwich on garlic toast, up grade to sweet potato fries. $2 add worth it. Grilled burger on garlic toast w garlic mashed potatoes. Smoked Meat portions were generous. 2 flavors of tasty BBQ sauce on the table. Sauce was not overly sweet. Spicy has a Tabasco taste. Could have split that sandwich & fries to leave room for cherry cobbler. But alas, kept eating until there was no room for dessert. Still had enough pulled pork & beef brisket left to take home for another meal. Service was attentive and cheery. Customers were smiling & happy with food and service. My daughter is a student at COCC and was living in the dorms which were closed because of the C-word. We packed up all her stuff and headed back home but stopped at Baldy's for dinner. We ordered by phone just outside the place, enjoyed the chairs they sat out. Took the food to our truck with a sofa in the bed, cracked out the grub and it was as good as it ever has been. So glad we went. My wife, who decided not to help my daughter move, was envious of our stop here. By far the worst establishment I've ever encountered with the worst, most aggressive owner. I went to the establishment to pick up food for a Door Dash. No one was in the front to assist me so I waited patiently in the front for some help. While waiting I see a fat bald man walking by and he completely ignores me sitting there. I wait longer and that same fat bald man walks to the front hostess stand that I'm sitting directly in front of and he again completely ignores my existence. He walks back towards the seating area and still has yet to acknowledge my existence. I stand up and track him down and finally he acknowledges me and said that he didn't see me. I told him that I found that hard to believe since I was sitting directly in front of him. He proceeds to get my order and I walk outside. Dissatisfied with the way he treated me, I went back inside to ask for his name so I could make a complaint. The then snaps and told me "you wanna know my name, I'm the F-ING owner and you're no longer welcome here, get the "F" out of here you "F-ING Cock Sucker." Taken back I stood there in disbelief that someone would say that to anyone. He then gets in my face and yells at me to "get the "F" out. He then puts his hands on me and pushes me out of the front door and continues to yell at me to "get the "F" out of here" and continues to call me a "Cock Sucker". I proceeded to walk to my vehicle and call the police and while I was on the phone with them he continued to stick his middle finger at me from inside the restaurant. I have never been treated like this by anyone before, especially since I did nothing to provoke such a response. I didn't not use any foul language, nor did I retaliate and put hands on him. This is probably my favorite Bbq around Ribs are perfect balance of so tender and still has the right amount of chew off the bone The sauce is best I have had and I need to find the recipe for my own use at home Or just buy some of theirs to go. Smoked wings were fantastic flavor and ordered dry so they would be crispy and dipped my own combo of super hot sauce and bbq. So it would not be complete without trying their brisket plate and I was so excited to see and taste the fantastic bark, seasoned and plenty of it, as a complement to the tender slices of the brisket, can literally cut with a plastic fork Add great fries and super friendly staff, I will be back every time I drive through Redmond (hopefully to hear the bands play sometime) or at one of their other locations. 5 stars all the way! read more

Tonight was a bummer. Usually we eat in Bend; this was our first visit to Baldys Redmond. We ordered online and since it didn't give an estimate on when it would be ready we called to ask before submitting. We were told 20 minutes. We placed our online order and it then told us our order would be ready in 45 minutes. (???) About 10 mins later I got an email saying there might be a problem with our order, that the restaurant hadn't "accepted" it, and I needed to call. So, I called, only to be told by a clearly unhappy hostess that my order was fine and she didn't know why I was calling. Okay, not off to a great start. We arrive at the 45 minute mark when the online system told us it would be ready, and then had to wait another 25 minutes for our food. So that 20 minute estimate turned out to be over an hour. Then we got our food home. We only live a few minutes away but the onion rings and fries were cold and mushy. It seemed like they maybe were done ahead of everything else and were left to just steam in their containers. We ordered the Extravaganza, ribs, and 6 sides. We weren't given any sauces, not one. We paid extra for extra croutons in our Caesar and literally had TWO croutons in the entire salad. And our cornbread was missing. I do give them two stars because other than the au gratin potatoes, everything else we ordered was delicious. Meats were tasty, baked beans excellent, our son loved the chicken strips, and - while cold and soggy - the flavor of the onion rings was good. But likely won't visit this location again. read more

I went here for my extended 62nd birthday because I can. We drove from Portland to spend a few days in the Redmond area and my wife let me pick the restaurant. This restaurant for me is the cat's meow,i have the FULL rack of ribs, my wife has the ribeye open faced sandwich which is so tender with smoothed sauted onions and mushrooms and son has a most amazing burger, did I say they have the best portions and then we share the bread pudding OMG we are revisiting heaven. I bought some of their Spicy BBQ to take home so hopefully I can relive Baldy's from home. As as service goes, everyone seems to have a happy service smile and we felt very welcomed by Jenny this trip, she is so attentive. First timer and am glad I stopped in. Great brisket and ribs. The bacon mash potatoes are a great side. The cats meow BBQ sauce has a great flavor and a little kick that goes well on the BBQ selection. Dakota is a great host who will make you feel more than welcome and make you feel like your at home. I might be biased because I lived in North Carolina for a while, and have had great BBQ all through the south east, but I was very underwhelmed. Pulled pork was soggy, and the other smoked meats were pretty lackluster. The cornbread was good but the other sides were mediocre at best. I didn't try any ribs so I can't speak to that. Ultimately, I still left full and it was still BBQ so I didn't hate it, but if you're expecting amazing BBQ and you're a little picky, don't get your hopes up. read more

Another mediocre attempt at bbq in the Northwest. Here's my rundown of what we ordered......brisket was actually pretty good, so was the Mac and cheese. Au gratin potatoes were under cooked. The half chicken was dry and shockingly flavorless. The Texas toast was literally just a piece of toast. Lastly, the cornbread was obviously made with more flour than corn as it was super light. Maybe you like your cornbread like that, I think it should be more dense and taste like corn. read more

The girl working the counter was extremely friendly and let us know they have $3 beers for happy hour. The smoke Buffalo wings were absolutely amazing! Was on the road and looking for a BBQ joint. Not much to choose from in this area! After a few failed attempts -- closed, too far, etc. -- we came to Baldy's. It's easy to find, in the Fred Meyer shopping center. Hint, it's in the section that shoots off away from Freddies. AND, they're open until 9pm, even on Sundays. Woohoo! Four hungry travelers ordered pulled pork plates and a Ceasar salad with pulled chicken. The food took much longer than we expected, as the place was pretty empty and the meat is "slow cooked" so one would assume it's already cooked. But we enjoyed each other's company and weren't bothered. The corn bread that came with the pulled pork plate was divine! Fluffy, sweet, moist. The baked beans, too, were really good. I thought the pork was the least exciting. A bit bland and sweet. Everything on the plate is already sweet so I would have liked more salty/savory flavor for the pork. The salad was good, fresh and with a great dressing and crisp croutons. Again, weirdly, the meat was the least tasty part. It was very juicy and a nice mix of white and dark but a little flavorless. Portions are good sized, and none of us completely finished. My boyfriend asked for a modified plate (extra beans, no mashed potatoes) and got it. So that's always good! There's a cute little bar in the restaurant, and I think it'd be a fun place to come for a drink. The decor is adorable and Western themed, definitely visually entertaining. read more

As far as BBQ goes, I didn't feel there was anything special or particularly delicious about their ribs or sauce. But, that's really my personal preference. It was good food, but definitely not the best BBQ we've ever eaten. The staff was great and we'll be back based on that alone. More than accommodating, friendly, and just overall really pleasant. Baldy's might be your cup of tea as far as BBQ goes, so give them a try. We were not unhappy with our meals (the exception being the jalapeño cornbread - it needs some work) and would eat there again. read more
