I discovered this place a few years back and it was so good I've made it a point to go back every time I'm in the Bend area, which is at least a couple times a year. What really won me over was the Glazed Donut Burger, which utilizes a split, inverted glazed donut in place of the bun. There's just something about the way the sweetness of the glaze counterbalances the saltiness of the burger patty and bacon. I'm also a huge fan of the breakfast variation which swaps out the burger patty for a sausage one. Yum! That being said, I had to take off a star due to their diabolical decision to remove both items from their menu since the last time I was there over the summer. Those sandwiches were the whole reason my family and I went again this week and I honestly almost walked out when I saw they'd ditched two of their marquee dishes. Instead, I ordered the Mr. October (they serve breakfast all day), which consisted of a biscuit filled with fried chicken, bacon, egg, and cheese; all smothered with sausage gravy. While it couldn't fill the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sando-shaped hole in my heart, it did come pretty close. And that Dub sauce for the fries and the frickles? Heavenly. The service and atmosphere have also been good every time we've been there. Were it not for the soul-crushing disappointment of losing my favorite items off the menu, this review would've easily been 5 stars. In Bend for work. Checked yelp for breakfast/brunch spots. So glad this place came up! It was a Tuesday at about 10am and the place was almost empty. It took a few minutes for anyone to realize we were there. We got a comfy table by the window. The menu makes it tough to decide. I wanted it all. I had the Cowboy Breakfast. It was so good. Potatoes were great, sausage was tasty, biscuit and gravy was amazing! The only down side, and a small detail in comparison, was the coffee did not taste great. I went to J Dub twice over my three days in Bend this week. It was conveniently close to where I was staying and it was recommended for its delicious hard boiled eggs. They lived up to the recommendation, so we also had our meal there. I ate the no carb burger and my husband the donut burger. Both were very satisfying after a day of adventures. We got back from the coast well after lunch and were lucky to get our large party seated at J DUB. There were a few other full tables in the restaurant but we were lucky to have our space to ourselves. The tables lined with paper were great to keep the kids busy coloring. I ordered the wedge salad because who doesn't love eating healthier when given fried food options. The table got their special deviled eggs which they seem to dress differently rather than mix into the egg yolk mixture. My kids had a great time coloring the paper all the way through their meals. The server was very straight forward nothing above or below. We were in and out in pretty good time. We parked on the street around the corner and found a decent spot. Glaze Doughnut Burger is nothing I have had before so I HAD to try it! It is a smash burger so it is not too heavy with the doughnut. Scrumptious flavors and such a unique idea. We were looking for a spot to grab a somewhat late dinner. Much of Bend closes up pretty early, but J Dub's listing on Yelp seemed to be the answer to our dinner dilemma. We were greeted quickly and taken to a table in the front half of the establishment (the back half is the pub/bar). When we arrived we were almost by ourselves in the front, but by the time we left the entire front was full of customers. The interior has a bit of a skier vibe to it, with a lot of wood throughout. The food was good. Not anything particularly special, but it did hit the spot and we didn't leave hungry. A head's up to those who are gluten-free, their fries are battered. Breakfast is served all day. I ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich and my husband ordered the donut burger. They come with fries and their special sauce. You can substitute salad, chowder, or a choice of a few other things for a four dollar to five dollar up charge. The tables are butcher paper. They have crayons on the table for you to use. In the front room, skis, and snowboards line the wall. The floors are wood. It is a very casual place. They do have ceramic plates and real cutlery. The donut burger comes with a fried egg on top. My husband ordered clam chowder instead of fries. He said that the donut was overwhelming the taste of the actual burger. Glad he tried it, but he would not get it again. The clam chowder was average. It was thick but not hot. Would have tasted better if it was hot and not warm. The chicken Parmesan was average. The bun was delicious. The marinara sauce was good. Had chunks of tomato. However, the mozzarella on the sandwich was thrown on at last minute, and was not melted, the french fries were warm. It seems to me they have a situation with serving their food, hot or at least keeping it hot. We are seated next to the kitchen, so this is not an issue of getting the food to the table in time. OMG! I just had the 'Glazed Donut Burger' and it is to die for! I was apprehensive when I first ordered it but took a chance on it and am so glad I did. They cut a glazed donut in half and grill the insides and make that the outside of the donut bun. When you first bite into it you experience the taste of a toasted glazed donut (yummy). I'm giving this rating of 4 because of the excellent service we received from Todd at the back bar on a busy Saturday before Christmas. I am a DC implant and a sucker for sausage gravy and biscuits that I have been known to order from a well known chain on the east coast called Bob Evans. I'm picking on JDubs for the claim they make to have the best sausage gravy and biscuits in Bend. I ordered alacarte 2 scrambled eggs hard, 1 biscuit, and 1 cup of sausage gravy. My husband ordered the Biscuits and Gravy entree. For me, none of the items stood alone as being great, but the gravy (which is thin) mixed with the eggs (which were a little slimy and not well done) was tolerable. DH said his entree wasn't great, either. What I will say was EXCELLENT! was the Spanish coffee- which I haven't had until my time here, and it blew me away! I also do want to compliment Todd in his communications skills, his friendly personality , and his advice for other restaurant genres. I will visit this bar again. Maybe not for breakfast, but definitely the Spanish Coffee! read more

Leaving 1-star.. For poor customer service and purposely deceit on the menu. Ordered the Lobster Roll and could tell something was off. The meat tasted very much like imitation crab meat. When we asked the server she seemed surprised but said they'd ask the kitchen. The final result was a "1/2 lobster meat & 1/2 imitation crab meat" (there wasn't an ounce of lobster on this sandwich). The server as a result said they would comp the meal. The bill came and it was a $12 off of the stated $20. The reason for the limited reduction by the Manager was that "I ate part of the sandwich". Really poor customer service. The menu does not list imitation crab meat at all. The restaurant is running a scam here which could result in someone getting sick from unstated food ingredients. I had the soft shell crab sandwich - the size was enough that I took half with me for the drive back to Portland. Their fries are so so good, very well seasoned and crispy. While in Bend we wanted to go somewhere that wasn't a brewery... J Dub seemed like a good option. The place is clean and has lots of seating both inside and out. I also noted it is pet friendly with water bowls and a special "pup" menu. I ordered a lobster roll. (I suspect it wasn't real lobster) but it tasted pretty good. I had the chowder on the side. I liked the chowder until I bit into something I could only describe as a clump of flour. My spouse had a chicken sandwich and the sweet potato tots. Both were good. The service was good. It did feel like our waiter was in a bit of a rush, but hey... I got my food and he was friendly. I was gonna whine a bit about the prices but in the bigger picture they are moderately priced. I do wish a lobster roll would be an actual lobster roll (identifiable pieces of lobster and lots of butter). C'est la vie we aren't in Maine.
