Best corned beef I've ever had! The manager was very helpful and accommodating! We are definitely coming back every trip to Bend!

What... the heck. Called ahead to find out about the wait, was told there was zero wait. Arrived about 20 minutes later, host told us 30 minutes for a table. That's fine, places get busy quickly on a Sunday morning. Ended up waiting nearly an hour. It happens and sometimes it's worth it for good food. Our waitress was kind but clearly needed more help. Took her 15 minutes to get to our table. I asked her to level with me: How long would our food really take, because we have two antsy kids. She says 20 minutes. That's quick! Okay, we order. 10 minutes later, they say sorry we are out of orange juice. We did not order orange juice. They say they do have chocolate milk, which we did order. Glass (like, adult glass) comes for my kid and the guy explains they are out of chocolate milk so they mixed cold milk with hot cocoa powder. Looks chunky. He apologizes and says he needs to go across the street to get orange juice and chocolate milk so we can wait if we want. We don't. We just want to eat and leave. I order iced coffee (on the menu), they only have canned cold brew. Not ideal but fine. Burger (something I could honestly make at home) comes with dry breakfast potatoes. The flattest pancakes I've ever seen, complete with black grease marks from the griddle. I appreciate that the patio was nice and there was a water bowl for our dog but there were so many rookie mistakes that it felt like a restaurant that just opened last week and we're working out kinks. I'm actually annoyed at the 5-star reviews because there's no way they are at the same place we did. read more

I've been here a few times being a local and now being a visitor. This is a great place to eat, with indoor and patio seating with an inviting atmosphere. Always great service and food. I ordered their shrimp and grits this time. Presentation was pleasing to the eye, plenty of cheesy grits but I felt like there could have been a couple more shrimp (maybe that's just me) it's not like they were the jumbo prawns. It was very tasty and the grits were prepared perfectly but I have to say their chiliquiles are so much better. I'm usually much more enthusiastic about my meals I've enjoyed here. Very nice attentive service. I got the gluten free eggs ala Vinny. Buttery. Nicely poached eggs. The thick ham was a great addition and I liked the flavor of the gf bread. I got the sweet potatoes on the side and they tasted and looked like fries to me. My friend agreed with me that they were very dry. I'll try a different side next time. Chow, bella! Great breakfast outside on a shaded patio in 90-degree Summer weather. We split The Med and it was so good we came back the following day and ordered the same thing! The Med is a benedict served over polenta with spinach and artichoke hearts, and we added avocado to it. Ask for hot sauce and they bring you a dish of 3 different homemade sauces: a cilantro-jalapeno, a carrot-habernero, and a red one, so every bite can be a little different. If you're like me and asking, "where's the meat" on a veggie entre, get the bacon cheesy grits as your side instead of potatoes (yes, you can do that). Still too hot? Try the Strawberry Quench (strawberry lemonade with vodka) and you'll stop worrying about it. read more

My scramble looked like it came out of a deep fryer and was forgotten there for a while. I really struggled to eat some of it just to justify the $22 price tag. When we were finally seated, someone came by with water but we then waited for another 15-20 min before we threw in the towel. We came for brunch today. We were told 20-30 minutes and waited almost an hour. It was a decent day and we had no-where to be so we were ok waiting. Once we were seated it was outside. We were seated and ordered immediately, staff was friendly and rushing around. I can only assume the kitchen is small because it took a really long time for our food to come out. My Benedict was good but lacking salt and my husbands food was also lacking salt. Back for more are you??? Well I sure did after being asked to return. I have to say that I was literally minutes from Sparrow Bakery when I was read the comments left to my review, I turned my car around and headed back to Chow to retry my meal. Walking in the place was not busy and we were greeted once again by that famous server and we were seated right by the fireplace in the back. Our table was a 2 seater and I decided to go forth and just reorder the same exact thing I had eaten the first time dining here. Let's start with my drink, had the same one and this one was much better, even tasted fresher in my opinion. The wait time for our food was quite short and my food came out, piping hot and I was told that this meat was way better! The meat was tender and flavorful and of course I was still a huge fan of the mushrooms and onions, I had opted for sweet potatoes instead of the grits and they were better however they just didn't hit the mark for me, the plate was rounded out with 2 eggs cooked to your liking. The atmosphere in this little nook is so warm and cozy, small place with BIG thoughts and ideas that come forth on plates, I say that from just sitting and watching plates coming out to hungry diners. Overall the second time around was so much better and the food was great! I am definitely coming back to try the lunch, drinks, and am grateful for the request to return!! Stopped in for breakfast early and beat the rush. Everything was amazing from the coffee to the grits. We had the crab Benedict (Salomon?) and the crab cakes were absolute perfection as well as the potatoes. My friend had the corned beef hash, perfectly executed with poached eggs. And my husband had the Local with sausage and cheese grits. It was his first time with grits and they were excellent. The coffee is from a local roaster, smooth and flavorful without being too strong. The attention to detail in food and ambiance, were reflected in the quality of food and dining experience. the service was attentive and welcoming. First and foremost, I feel terrible leaving a one star review because the staff seems really sweet and the last thing I want to do is negatively impact their ability to make a living. That being said, the restaurant needs some type of accountability from our experience today. I don't mind wait times. Ours was roughly about an hour, so we ordered drinks from the bar while we waited. I ordered myself a Bloody Mary and got my wife a mimosa. This is where the trajectory of our experience began pointing south. $26 for two cocktails isn't necessarily bad...however, when the mimosa's champagne is Cook's and they've "run out of orange juice" and you're a brunch spot, that's problematic. When the Bloody Mary isn't seasoned at all and the only vodka you have to make the BM is Smirnoff...again, problematic. Anyways, both drinks were really "meh." The wait continued. I had to use the restroom at some point during the wait and was directed inside. On my way back to the restroom, I noticed the entire interior had empty tables - not a single person was sitting inside. My wife loves to point out how unobservant I usually am, yet, I noticed how weird it was that they weren't seating anyone inside despite the hour long wait. Anyways, I come back out and join my wife where we had been seated outside. After placing our order, she goes to use the restroom. As she rejoins me at the table, she looks mortified. "I saw a mouse," she said. Turns out, she saw a mouse inside running from the kitchen area towards the empty dining room. As we were trying to figure out what to do, the waitress comes out with my beer and her mug for a cup of tea. The tea cup is still dirty, with a still-clearly-visible lip mark from someone else's lipstick on the mug. Nope. Time to go. Listen, I've seen enough Bar Rescue episodes to know this is the point where Jon Taffer comes barging in, saving the day, proclaiming "everybody get out!" Where there's one mouse, there are more. I can't help but think back to that empty dining room. Why aren't you sitting people inside? Is it because you know there are mice scampering around? I don't care how hungry I was and how much time we committed at that point to eating there. NOPE. We notified our waitress immediately of the rodent and dirty mug, asked to cancel our food order based on our experience, and paid the $9 for a Rainier beer and hot tea and promptly left. read more

Hands down one of the best brunches we've had in a long time. What a find! We're visiting Bend and stumbled on this place. Jen, the waitress and hostess was working the entire place and couldn't have been kinder or more welcoming. The setting is cute and the inside is well laid out, bright and sunny and not crowded. Plenty of space between tables. When Jen said everything was delicious I thought she couldn't possibly be right but she was spot on. There were 11 of us so we tried a lot of dishes and every single one was fabulous. Amazingly, Brian, the chef, had only been working there 2 weeks but clearly has some serious talent. Also props to Jen for putting the kids orders in first so they could start eating while we waited. Pro move! Some highlights from a highlight full meal. The fried chicken sandwich was an incredible combination of flavor with truffle slaw, thin apples and maple butter. I couldn't put it down. The corn beef hash was so delicious. My mother is a corn beef hash pro and couldn't stop talking about it. The shrimp Benny was fabulous and the kids loved the pancakes. The homemade compote was a huge hit on top of the pancakes. The sides were all great especially the roasted sweet potatoes which come with a balsamic glaze. And the price is very reasonable with big entrees in the $17-20 range and the substantial kids pancake only $2.50. I would come back here in a heartbeat! read more

I have heard that staffing has been a challenge for Chow from a few neighbors but on the day we went, we had good service and great meals! Staffing is pretty much an issue for all Bend restaurants so if you're visiting, I'd keep in mind that our town surges in the Summer and matching staffing to this demand is near impossible. The table favorite was the chicken fried steak and grits - I had to keep my kids away from my plate. We also had two kid pancakes, which are massive and also delicious, and the fried chicken sandwich. You will likely have to wait for a table here but they serve drinks and try to keep it comfortable while you wait. Chow is also very dog friendly. Can't wait for our next brunch! read more

Long wait for a just okay outdoor brunch in Bend, with a fun crowd. Our wait was made better with live music and lots of Bend denizens sipping breakfast cocktails and waiting for a table. This is definitely a friendly, low key locals spot for brunch. I just expected food and service to be on par with the hour plus wait. Anyone who knows me knows I will wait a crazy amount of time for a great brunch (see my favorite Portland, Seattle or SF brunch reviews) but who doesn't get disappointed if a very long wait at brunch turns out to be just a-okay? We got different orders, but the crab cake Benedict's were served dry (no sauce) resulting in a so-so rendition. Sitting here at Chow I was a little frustrated we sat down quick as we ordered our food and mind you coffee. I thought the waitress would be right back with the coffee after sitting here about 5 mins Thinking our coffee would come. I had to ask our waitress can we have our coffee. The outdoor seating is pretty cool under big pine trees, but the service was super slow. It took 15 minutes to get our coffee after ordering. The food took 30 minutes and was cold when it arrived and mediocre taste. I ordered an omelette and cheese grits and my wife had eggs and toast......not too complicated. Chow was a nice breakfast spot that we stopped at before we headed to Smith Rock one morning. I was deciding between getting the huevos rancheros or the breakfast crabby patty (as a spongebob fan it was tough to resist) but the server recommended the huevos rancheros so that was what I decided to get. They were very flavorful and made even better by their homemade salsas/hot sauces that they brought out. My personal favorite was the habanero carrot one and if they had sold it by the bottle I definitely would have purchased some before we left because it was so delicious. The only con was that the egg yolks were not runny at all as they were very solid and closer to a hard boiled yolk rather than an over easy one and I really enjoy a nice runny yolk when I get poached eggs. The side of potatoes were nice and crisp and I dipped them in the homemade sauces and that was also a great combo as honestly you could put those on anything. I have never been here before today but I will definitely be back! Especially if I can have Lleyton as my server again. What a gem, they are the clear example of what this industry needs more of. Attentive, knowledgeable, quick, aware, all well being equipped with a lovely personality. As a restaurant manager I would be OVER THE MOON to have Lleyton on my team. We don't get into Bend often and we were looking forward to a nice breakfast. We walked into Chow, the only customers there. Waitperson was friendly, personable, and we enjoyed chatting with her. We placed our order, and waited a bit for our food. We were disappointed. The chicken fried steak was over cooked, slightly burnt. Came with cold grits instead of the ordered sweet potato fries. We were given fries too, only they were white potatoes, and cold and soggy. The Benedict was also sad, cold chorizo, the eggs were undercooked, the grits were cold, the cheese sprinkled on top didn't melt. It was obvious the food wasn't cooked while we waited. Was it being defrosted and slightly microwaved? Were the fries left over from the day before? It's shameful to charge serious money for such sub rate food. read more
