We were just passing through Bend for the night on the way to Washington and looking for takeout food to eat back at our hotel. Found this place because of the killer reviews. It is located in the parking lot of a brewery that looked super cute with tons of seating both indoor and out. We got our dinners + 2 cheese plates (one for that night and one to take on our road trip). The lady that took our order didn't really like the idea that we were taking the cheese plate to go because she said they have a nice display and silverware at the brewery for it. We thought that was kind of strange, but when we ended up getting it, it was a super full box with a ton of goodies that must of been a bit of a challenge to get in the box. It probably would of been a beautiful cheese plate if we stayed there and had some beer or wine. I got the wet burrito for dinner that had griddle potatoes, smoked turtle beans, grilled mixed vegetables, roasted chilis, & caramelized onions smothered in hot enchilada sauce. I really liked it until my friend pointed out it tasted kind of like marinara and I couldn't get that out of my head. It was still good, but not the normal burrito taste. Brunch was so good. Everyone left with a smile. The biggest surprise was the "cakes" with cherries on top and chocolate chips with walnuts. The proportion and textures were such a great blend--not too sweet and the whole foods added that special touch. The potatoes were also licked clean as well as the mushroom gravy with biscuits and tofu scramble. The bed of arugula under those dishes gave them a wholesome boost. Our eyes and stomaches were fully satisfied. We'll be back again this week and probably get the same thing since the combo was so good though there were other enticements on the menu! Amazing! These folks are slinging burritos the size of my forearm! All three of us got the same burrito and it was tasty! Jammed full of veggies, tofu, potatoes and beans. I could barely finish it, but kept me full for a solid 8 hours, ha! I really enjoyed the green sauce on it. The set up is a little food truck and the people working there are awesome. Wow! Hands down the best breakfast I've ever had. I got the "big country" combo and it did not disappoint. Not only was so tofu scramble well seasoned and delicious, but the portion was huge! The biscuits and gravy had to be my favorite though. I got the gravy on the side because I'm not the biggest gravy fan, but I ended up pouring it on there. WOW. Easily, the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. I used to have a healthy relationship with sandwiches when I was a kid, but the past couple of years of my life I have struggled to be happy with a sandwich. I usually go out of my way to NOT order a Sando. But, this week I was checking out this food cart's menu, and once i read the description for their "BARB-B-Que Eggplant Po' Boy Sandwich" I knew I had to try it. And, I am glad that I did. Everything was perfect and satisfying, the "insides" or guts of the sandwich was perfect, nothing was on there that I didn't care for, or that I needed to try to substitute or remove or anything. I have been going through an Eggplant Phase, when slightly fried and breaded or baked, but not overly cheesy like an "eggplant Parmesan" so this sandwich contents filled that delicious desire! And, usually my struggle is too much mayonaise, or some sort of "white sauce" but this place is vegan, so i didn't have to worry about that. And, the amount of sauce was delicious instead of disgusting like other places. Their description of the sandwich on the website says: "Our version of the classic: New Orleans sandwich: crispy grilled eggplant, Barb's House BBQ sauce, smoked remounted & jicama slaw on focaccia hoagie. Oh yeah,a the hoagie or the bread was amazing!! It is not dry, and it is really flavorful. Everything comes together really well, and leaves nothing to be desired. And, I am not typically a "big lunch" person either, maybe that is because I am not a "sandwich person" usually either, but this sandwich was the highlight of my day! I am lucky enough to be visiting, and could pop over with a 3 minute walk to pick up our order from the food cart. I am grateful I got to experience this sandwich and food cart, and highly recommend it to anyone who is nearby. Their food cart is in the alley that is parallel to Newport Ave, behind "The Mercantile". Great, friendly service, quick food. Top notch virgin Bloody Mary (one of the best I had). Great biscuits (though the presentation could be improved) and pancakes. Wasn't a fan of the tofu scramble or breakfast burrito. For the biscuits, mine came out "upside down" meaning the gravy and garnish was on the plate and the biscuits on top. I would have preferred it served another way and in a bowl but it was still delicious. Sometimes the food can be too salty but overall it's consistently done well. I'm always wary of vegan establishments- for some weird reason more carnivorous joints offer better vegan options these days and there's so much funk happening in vegan joints- not about that all fermented life and a bunch of desperate artificial leanings toward animal based foods that many vegan converts claim to miss. This trunk ain't that, bros. The owners were incredibly friendly and seem to have their business well put together. The flavors are really well thought out and some don't seem like they would be great- potentially overwhelming *cough cough -not a covid cough-TRUFFLE* but they genuinely worked well and did not leave you flattened by any one note. We tried all of the tacos and they were honestly too much (4tacos for the 2fer deal to even out) for 2 adults and a 6yr old. The turtle beans are cooked well and everything was seasoned nicely. We visited on Mother's Day around 11:30am. The food truck shares an area with two other food trucks (non-vegan) and there is a seating area in the middle. All the tables were full so we had to wait for one to open up. I was excited to try some vegan comfort food. I ordered the breakfast tostadas and the breakfast burrito. I ordered the hash dish and it was so flavorful with a nice gravy. My husband had a huge burrito he enjoyed but said my dish had an even better flavor. Took a road trip up north to enjoy some outdoor life in the beautiful Bend Oregon. With this COVID-19 making me SIP, this was the perfect trip to unwind and explore the open forests of Oregon. Anyways, you're here for the review so here it is. After some research for vegan foods in the booming town of Bend, there has to be a few vegan spots to eat at and this is one that I'm glad I found. It is a good truck situated amongst a few other trucks serving delicious foods. It is quite a smaller truck compared to what I'm used to but it threw out some amazing foods. The menu is stated as New American and has many choices to choose from. We arrived for a late lunch one day and was so happy with the food and service that we had to come back for breakfast as their menu was a must. I want to include and describe everything we ordered but that would be a pretty long. My pics does not show it justice as you cannot smell or taste the food. The flavor and ingredients used seems very fresh and flavorful. We had no problems with seating as there was plenty of benches and the turnaround was fast. Run or bike here. NOW. I mean I guess technically not NOW since they're closed but do it. As soon as they open. We ate there for lunch (super bummed to miss the brunch Griddle cakes for the kids, but that meant we had to go back!!) And I was half excited have meh. Because plant based vegan food is either AWESOME or crap. Broken Angel is GOOD. It is SO good. They get food. They get texture, flavor, seasoning, proper cooking of vegetables so you have crisp vegetables, not a pile of mush in what you order. They also GET that to put grilled veggies on bread, you need to have GOOD bread. And damn it was SO good. I ate all my veggies first, and enjoyed every bite of zucchini, squash, tomato and mushroom. The bread on my Balsamic Grilled Veggie sandwich was a slice of heaven. Absolute heaven. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Oh God it was bread heaven. The tapenade on top of my veggies I could have eaten a while plate of. Delicious. Seasoned well and just excellent. My husband had the PNW Philly. I tried it and it too was absolutely amazing. The seasoning is just epic. And the bread. Y'all. The bread!!!!! So good. My mom had the Reuby and I delighted in trying some too. Such great flavor and taste. Mmmmm. My kids can get super weird and picky, as kids do, with veggies and sauces. They devoured the Biscuits and Wild Mushroom Gravy with House Scramble. I had to taste it and once again. Wow. The scramble was delish. Like none I had ever experienced prior. So chock full of veggies. And the biscuits. Now let me get my southern out for y'all. I'm from the south, Florida, true it isn't the real South, but I did love my southern comfort food prior to being vegan. And my absolute favorite was biscuits and gravy. Truth time. I had NEVER had biscuits and gravy they came close in a restaurant. We could get good ones homemade when we did it but I had NEVER had good biscuits and gravy anywhere. Y'all. Y'all. NAILED IT. The gravy had this sage flavor that was just enough to make you say hmmmm is that sage, and not too much that it stole the show. Hot damn it was good. So good I think I have to have it as my farewell meal to Bend tomorrow. Lol. I have only one negative comment and I need to preface it. I HATE home fries if they're chunky potatoes. I have never been more disappointed in a vegan food establishment than I have been with A Broken Angel. This was my first time here and I ordered a Reuby sandwich to go. Once I got home I could not wait to dig into my sandwich. After all these amazing reviews I could not wait to try this place. The Reuby was so salty I could not take more than 2 bites. I asked my husband to try it, to it see if it was just me. He had to spit out his bite. I don't know if this was a one off or if they are always like this, but it was so over salted I had to throw the whole sandwich away after taking 2 bites. I'm so sad and I despise throwing out food, I'll eat something even if I don't really like it to prevent food waste. It was inedible and a complete waste of money, time, and ingredients.
