All I have to say is WOW. The food is phenomenal, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are so kind. Everything came out very quickly even though they were busy. The savory pancake was such an interesting combo but so delicious. Definitely check this place out if you are in town!

We came for brunch today. We were told 20-30 minutes and waited almost an hour. It was a decent day and we had no-where to be so we were ok waiting. Once we were seated it was outside. We were seated and ordered immediately, staff was friendly and rushing around. I can only assume the kitchen is small because it took a really long time for our food to come out. My Benedict was good but lacking salt and my husbands food was also lacking salt. This place is cute and the food is good but for me not worth the almost 2 hours it took for seating and finally getting our food.

The food was AMAZING. Zach (chef) at Chow has me wanting to move to Bend just so I can have his pancakes, bacon, potatoes, and biscuits and gravy whenever I want. I didn't catch our servers name but she was also amazing and so so helpful. The place is so cute, the food and service was great I LOVED CHOW.

    The Blackstone was exceptional.

The ambiance is giving me single, middle aged quirky auntie's living room. Which is nice in the mornings for breakfast. I really enjoyed how many pickled veggies there were on my Bloody Mary. The blackstone stood out as the bernaise sauce was well done and tasty. The cornmeal crusted tomatoes are underneath the blackstones eggs and bacon, where they belong... haha In all honesty I enjoyed my meal and the Mac and cheese was really tasty hidden gem on a breakfast menu.

Corned Beef Hash 5/5 stars. Super yummy!

Was recommended by a friend. I ordered the corned beef hash and it was to die for!!! The Corned beef was super tender and unlike any corned beef hash I have had. Pro tip, use some of their carrot hot sauce for an added kick!! Service was super friendly and they even brought out a water bowl for our dog. Plenty of outdoor seating.

Seated in a timely manner outside. Bailey was our server. Nice human with a great smile. We noticed the urgency from the young male server. He was great too! Local coffee, amazing corned beef hash included with fresh ingredients. My husband and I spilt that with their French toast with compote. Great pair! Lots of wonderful flavors paired together. Love the artwork and landscape here in their outdoor seating/waiting area. Check this spot out! We'll be back next trip to Bend.

Is outdoor seating open year round (pending rain)?

No , I am sorry. We close. Our patio due to weather ( mostly covered in snow in the winter )

Is there gluten free bread or other gluten free options?

Yes! Just ask. They have many options.

Went there for brunch today and got a very luke-warm reception (no one acknowledged us) empty tables inside and out but still a 40 min wait... seemed pretentious and unfriendly- should we give it another try?

Yes. This is not usual for them. They are usually on top of greeting guests, but there's a wait, always. Food is excellent, so definitely go back.

Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. This was more than enough for the three of us and we left full, happy, and with three large to-go boxes. The flavors of the various dishes were amazing. It was kinda late as we were at an evening conference event, and after a short wait, we were seated! Crowded and late is usually a good sign. We ordered some great cocktails to start and a Cajun BBQ Shrimp Appetizer. The cocktails were great and unique, but the BBQ Shrimp was amazing. It's not like being in New Orleans, but it's pretty close! And you better believe that plate went back to the kitchen spotless!!! That BBQ sauce was bomb, which means good apparently. For some reason, we switched out waitresses halfway through, which made tipping awkward. However, each was funny and friendly in different ways. That's always a plus when you've been on the road for 10 days or so and are feeling the wear and tear on travel and bougie food. For Entree's, he ordered a salad which looked amazing, and I ordered the blackened redfish and swapped the sides for fries and carrots. The fries were absolutely amazing, as was the redfish. So good... I wish the carrots were mushier (more mushy?). That's a personal preference. Waitress #2 highly recommended the carrot cake and assured us she wouldn't pass judgment on two dudes sharing dessert. I'm glad she did as it was one of the lightest and best carrot cakes I've ever had. And the carrots WERE mushy here. Then she had the entire kitchen staff come out and laugh at us for sharing (ok, she didn't, but that would have been classic). I enjoyed my time in Bend and this place would be on my list for a repeat visit if I'm ever here again. Loved it!

So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. I'd avoided this place somewhat because the menu looks non-traditional and a bit scary. If you feel that way, get past it. The things at the very top are effectively amuses bouches, not even starters. Then below that you have shared starters (pork collar lettuce wraps amazing!) , then salad/soup if you want (the gazpacho was simply amazing and Steve's description made it even better). The bread, oh my god, the bread. Some Spanish or Portguese flat fried round bread with tallow on it -- you don't need the butter, trust me. In fact, perversely, that was the only issue with the meal. We ate too much bread. Next time, I'd eat half a roll each and bring the rest home. The steaks were simply superb, the crust amazing, the cooking temperatures perfect. I used both Steve and ChatGPT to help me pick mine (the Eye of Rib). The hangar, the bavette, and even the filet (not my fav) were all great as well. But I liked my pick the best.
