Such a rare gem with a cozy ambiance and amazing food! The menu is "seasonly inspired" and rotates weekly. From start to finish, Todd (love him) elevated our experience with his curation of each dish and wine on the Chef's Tasting menu. We added appetizers - maitake mushroom topped with dancing Katsuobushi + Dungeness crab butter poached in a cream sauce - which were both delicious. Just wow. I heard just great things about this restaurant I made reservations for the night I landed in Bend, and I'm so glad I did! Everything here is amazing. From the moment you walk in you can tell you're somewhere special. My welcome by server Todd was so warm as he directed me to my bar seat(be sure to make reservations!). Todd wasn't my server but went above and beyond to make sure I felt attended to... even offering to be my resident photographer as I took a few photos on site. I also enjoyed learning a bit about the restaurant's history by Susan, Ariana's mother and part owner of this family establishment! Loved hearing about how much staff are called and loved here! I can see why. Kindness meets talent and sophistication here. I chose to do the chef tasting and am so glad I did! Starting with fresh bread and amuse-bouche, prefecture flavors and prepared! The course with hamachi, peach, and sauces was outstanding. A flavor explosion in the most wonderful way! The scallop in the bisque was another unique pairing I greatly enjoyed... the scalp perfectly tender. Cara behind the bar did the most wonderful job of timing my courses. We received very attentive care and they have menus adapted to people with dietary needs such a partial lactose intolerance. The ambiance is agreeable but the walls do not damp the sound well. It was a beautiful birthday dinner at Ariana Restaurant. The service was kind, warm, and welcoming. We were seated immediately and offered drink recommendations. I started with the house take on a margarita. There's a pre-fix but I opted for a la carte. To start, I had the radicchio salad. This was incredible. I would love to eat this again and again. It was like a Caesar salad but better (I know!!!). I like more things in my salad and you won't find store croutons in this salad. Not pictured is a mushroom soup that was also tasty. There was an option to add a scallop to the top of the soup, so fancy! Then the next course was scallops ($42) and black cod ($35). The scallop was cooked to perfection and the rice was fragrant with saffron and a hint of garlic. It was light and decadent. The black cod was my favorite. It was herbaceous and melted in my mouth. It's the best black cod I've ever had. This was an outstanding birthday meal. I didn't settle for one dessert. I needed two! The passionfruit was bright and fun to eat. The cocoa nib meringues were light and crunch like flavored clouds. The mini birthday cake made me feel like a kid again. It tasted like birthday cupcakes I had during school parties. We loved our experience at Ariana. Three of the four of us enjoyed the tasting menu and reserve wine pairings. They were some of the best combinations we have ever had. I seldom love every course and all of us did. Our 4th had crab appetizer, mushroom soup (special) and lamb and all were amazing. We appreciated our server Mark who was lovely, engaging and kept us perfectly paced despite one member of our party not doing the tasting menu. This husband and wife team have created a dining experience comparable to a Michelin restaurant (unfortunately, Michelin doesn't cover Oregon...yet). A charming Craftsman bungalow has been transformed into a chic space with tasteful art and floral arrangements, surrounding ample dining tables and comfy seating. We had the tasting menu along with the "standard" wine pairing - which was anything but- and our personal waiter provided ample pours of 6 wines. Each jewel of a dish was a visual delight. The chefs combine their talents and backgrounds to create nuanced flavors that highlight fresh ingredients without needing to resort to pyrotechnics. We left after a 3 hour meal feeling like we had been treated to one of the most special meals we've enjoyed in a long time. For sure this is a great restaurant, lots of intent, but has not checked my boxes for several years. Nothing to do with food quality or presentation or waitstaff which is top notch, rather just the menu options and overall experience. YELP Short Answer: Yes maybe depends on your expectations. This is a good reservation to get if you're visiting. Location: Missing Cup of Magic if you are old school, but they have done a great job keeping this location original to Bend. Parking is terrible but so goes running a business on Galveston. Buildout: Nice, dark, more on the quiet romantic side which is what they appear to be going for. Upscale for sure. Not many tables so reservations are required. Menu: This is kind of the issue, I don't like their menu, haven't for a while and it has changed over the years but they are trying to brand what they have now as if it was a constant since 2004 when they opened. This place used to be fun. For sure my favorite has been the Beet Salad, but there popular scallops (3) I have never liked. To me not many healthy options or smaller portions, but carnivores rejoice they now bring on large portions. Food Prep: Excellent, some of the best, lots of butter. Food Quality: Well done if you enjoy what you've ordered. They take great care in everything they plate. Their portions have increased in size which does nothing for me but I get it, some people equate value with volume. Waitstaff: professional, excellent in all interactions. They have continued to improve this over the years and have lost the attitude they had for a few years when there was no competition. Ask questions everyone is now super nice. Overall Value: This is what's lacking for me. From trying to get a table, you need to make reservations as they are sold out most nights and online reservations can be out several weeks. Nothing on the menu makes me want to drop $50+ for an entree or go for $100 per plate for the Chefs Dinner which seems like a great deal if want to eat a lot. For sure without drinks or wine you will be over $100 before tip for two so if you are having a special occasion with wine you can be at $400 with big tip which they deserve. Even more, I had high expectations of the food - both taste and quality. I have to say I was majorly let down. I have read so many good reviews! Not sure if they were written by people who don't like to eat or if perhaps it was an off night? We ordered the Chefs Tasting Menu and some extras. The best things we had were the amuse bouche and the carpaccio (not part of tasting menu). Everything else, I could absolutely forego - the fish and hair on plate being the most obvious. Salt levels were off...all in all, just not good. At around $400 for 2, I expected more. Upon leaving, the waitress brought us some sort of salted caramel mousse dish to go and apologized for the fish. If she only knew how I felt about the whole meal. I just am disappointed. The Chef's Tasting Menu was unbelievable and every course was carefully thought through - the textures and balance of flavor was unbelievable. My partner (who has a history of hating kale) said that the kale salad was the best salad he ever had. I never had an empty glass, whether it be cocktail, wine, or water. At one point I noticed their attention to this, to be a complete ass I chugged down my entire glass of water. Bam! Expensive food (four scallops for $42.00 no vegetables unless you count the puree and four small artichoke pieces). Small menu without a vegetarian entree selection. The bar seats four people and one needs reservations in order to be seated at the bar-of which a third of the portion is closed off. This is for diners to wait at while their table is being set. I noticed there is also a large couch on the front patio to wait on, as well. Not sure why Ariana has so much unused space. I have been coming here off and on since 2011 and keep trying for the 5 stars!!! But no. And this is not a French restaurant. I live in Paris half the year and the only similiarity are the sauces and the fact that they serve wine. read more

The starter of umami-bomb jus and herbed foccacia set the tone for the entire meal! From there, each dish continued to amaze. The scallop with celery bisque was one of the best things I ever tasted and I assumed it would be the highlight of my meal. However, the Filet with mushroom puree, crispy mushrooms, and pickled mushrooms was over the top! We opted for the wine pairing and while they were great, I think next time I'll just go with cocktails. The service was great, attentive without being invasive. The kitchen was great with a request for a substitution to the tasting menu. The price is fairly high, but for the quality you get, it's a fair trade. You can tell the care that goes into each dish. The tasting menu with wine pairing was enjoyable, although I only really liked the Crémant de Bourgogne, Syrah Rôtie from Walla Walla and the Tokaj. The Bergstrom Pinot from Oregon wasn't my taste. Do the tasting menu, you won't regret it! My husband and I split the wine pairing, as 6 courses of wine is too much for us. Splitting it is just the right amount of wine for each dish.
