We're new to Bend; having come from the DC area we are looking to add restaurants to our rotation. Sadly, this one does not make it. It's not really due to any one thing; but a confluence of conditions which could not put it in a "return" status. We were meeting DH friends of many decades; reservations for 1730; we arrived just on time and checked in and were informed it would be a few minutes (they were cleaning the table for us). 15 minutes later after the other party arrived we went in and asked about our reservation- and why "yes, the table was ready". The waitress was delightful- didn't get her name. The special on Sunday night was a Steak Frittes samy with a free beer? I did look at their menu before we dined and noticed it was pretty limited, but no problem, they understand their strengths and didn't try to appease all palates. For me, I did have 2 of the raspberry lemon drops and they were yummy, but water which was not refilled for the hour or so we were there, although the waitress did check in from time to time. I had the Mac and Cheese and it was good. DH had the special, the other two had a wedge salad which looked good, and the soup and salad special. The ambience was loud, lots of large parties I'm supposing for the holiday. I'm probably picking on them- they didn't do anything wrong, and are priced like most restaurants in Bend (too high IMHO)- it's just that there's nothing outstanding enough for me to recommend it above some of the other restaurants we've been to. Food was alright, breakfast potatoes where a little salty, As well as the French fries. But overall food was good what really affected this review was the waitresses, she was very rude, seemed irritated the moment she took our drink orders. We asked to please make sure to split the bill, she denied the request and said in a very passive aggressive tone. "I already made it how about you guys figure it out" , she then walked away very fast. It took her 15minutes to come back and take the payment from us. We had to go look for her because she wouldn't come pick it up. Our group of 10 had a fantastic brunch here this past Sunday morning. The portions are shareable and prices are not too bad. Bend has some great brunch places and this one should go on your list. We made a reservation ahead of time and were ushered right in - they didn't make us wait until the full group arrived to seat us which is an additional plus. Service was timely, suggestions were on point and all the portion sizes were great! We didn't have to request refills of water or coffee and our waitress checked in on us often enough. When you arrive they give spiced popcorn for the table and that's was tasty. The drinks are all really good. I suggest asking about their specials - we ordered the special brunch item and it did not disappoint. It was an arugula based hash with breakfast potato's topped with over easy eggs. The portion was large enough for two to split easily. We paired that the soup of the day which was a bacon chowder and that was scrumptious. They season their potatoes well. Loved our waitress. The buffalo chicken salad is always great, as well as the libations. The main turn off was hearing the cooks in back swearing at one another and watching the bald-headed cook eating a piece of chicken in the prep area while another takes a drink out of his hydroflask then wiping his mouth off with the back of his hand. read more

Our party of 3 were all underwhelmed with our lunch at Washington. The veggie burger had a weird texture, and the soup of the day and salad combo was uninspiring with a very vinegary salad dressing (ask for it in the side). Service was ok but was quite slow. So, my review is a bit mixed due to the 3rd visit over the course of the week. We were visiting family that week and kept going back because food was great, service was great and prices were pretty fair. Unfortunately when we came with a table of 6 on Monday right at the beginning of happy hour, we were not treated very well. First we were told we cant seat out selves in the bar area side and were moved to the booth seating, told our server would be right with us. 30 minutes went by of being ignored by another server, and just as were were about to all get up and walk out, a young lady showed up, not acknowledging our wait. Mind you there were 2 other table being served and that server never looked over to see that we had been left with no server. The server who did finally arrive took out orders without writing it down and kept having to ask us what we ordered, getting 2 things wrong after bringing it t the table, and was a little sassy about it when my sister commented. She seemed to only have our table and was rather slow tending to our needs, leaving a sour taste in all our mouths. My family did not understand why we would bring them to such a place. This was not the experience the two other times over the weekend I had been here, each serve was right on cue, knew exactly what we wanted and made great suggestions as well as engaging us in conversation. So with ALL the said my friend and I will try again....on the weekend, not week day. Would have received 5 stars if it were not for the last visit. *Last comment, please have cocktail sauce available for those of use who like it to dip our calamari in. Had lunch at Washington with friends recently. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap w/ fries, and I think I was more satisfied with my meal than the rest of my party. I think the food was solid and had a nice addition of thinly sliced apples in the wrap. Every table gets a bag of freshly popped popcorn which was a fun addition (and thankfully NOT stale). Service was okay - friendly but perhaps spread a bit thin - so a bit slow even given that they were not anywhere near busy. The space is open and airy and we sat outside. read more

Let's talk about it...came after going to the last market of the year and decided to come have some lunch here. Beautiful day so we sat outside and decided on sharing something. We were greeted by our super nice server, . Told her this was our first time as she placed down our waters and a warm bag of well seasoned popcorn. We were informed that today's special by the Chef was a breakfast sandwich egg and we decided on sharing the crispy chicken sandwich with fries. This dine in we opted on just water to drink. We were pleasantly surprised when our wonderful server Heidi brought us warm golden donut holes since we had never been before. These babies are a definite if you come here. Warm and served with 2 beautiful sauces and these babies were dusted in a cinnamon sugar and were so perfectly fried nice crisp on the outside and a soft pillowy center that goes so well with both of its "roomies" on the plate. Caramel was soft and velvety and the whip was like a bow on the perfect gift! When the sandwich came I have to tell you I truly did have high hopes and unfortunately the sandwich lack flustered in flavor. Sandwich came out hot and the fries were crispy however the sandwich was a bit disappointing since the chicken itself had NO flavor in the breading. Food was disappointing. The chorizo breakfast burrito was bland. The potatoes it came with were pretty good, not great. The Caesar salad with fried chicken strips was bland too! I typically head to The Washington about once a week for the notorious buffalo chicken salad. My husband is a fan of the wrap. The best time to go is lunchtime. It's less crowded so service is more attentive and the food tends to come out better than a busy weekend night. It's a popular spot for date night, girls night and bigger group dinners. We will sometimes do weeknight family dinner there and I appreciate the kids menu bento boxes. It's a great amount of food if you go for the burgers (shrimp is not enough) and includes two sides and a small cup cake. The back patio is also a great place to enjoy a meal on a blue sky day. Washington consistently aims to disappoint. The food ranges from meh to good. The atmosphere is pretty cool, although the din when they are busy can be annoying. The service is usually poor to dreadful, especially when they are busy - you know, meal time. It's astounding how bad it can be, on a consistent basis. Service was okay. Food was horrendous. My husband ordered prime rib and even his steak knife could not cut the meat without a serious struggle; we had to send it back to the kitchen. I ordered the dinner special which was salmon. They tossed in a few over deep fried potatoes and charged $39. The salmon was extremely dry and bland. Overpriced is an understatement for what you get. I don't mind paying for a good meal if it's GOOD. We sat in the outside patio which was lovely but we were all battling flies and wasps the entire time. Will definitely not return nor recommend. We recently moved to the Bend area and have been to Washington a few times, both lunch and dinner. The food is flavorful and the cocktails are strong, great bartenders. If you like a good wedge salad, theirs is excellent: cold, crisp, lots of bacon & bleu cheese. I had the Notorious Buffalo Chicken salad and loved it. Big salads, enough for good leftovers. The Tagliatelle Americana was good but a little too salty/greasy, not enough to complain. Highlight of our lunch was the Whipped Feta w/ Balsamic Roasted Strawberries and a Chef's Special appetizer - burrata with arugula, honeydew, cucumber and pesto. Wow! Flavor combo was amazing. Had a poor experience at nearby restaurant. Walked across the street, explain the situation to the hostess. And even though it was a Friday night during the dinner, rush, they worked the problem and found a booth for me and my elderly mother. They went out of the way to show hospitality. The food was excellent. The waitress offered suggestions that catered to our needs. A perfect example of an establishment that understands the meaning behind fine dining. Went for Mother's Day with a reservation. They sat us late, even though there were open tables, and sat other guests ahead of us, the tables were the identical size. Waiting for 32 minutes to get our drinks. Asked the hostesses walking around aimlessly several times if our drinks were on the way. Never complaining once. Our meal finally arrived after 1hour 10 minutes. The waitress seamed to realize something was wrong, but never did a single thing to correct or apologize for the delay. Left very disappointed, although the food was good, I will never recommend this restaurant. Really like the new menu options. Cocktails are always delicious. Finally tried the Brunch Bloody Mary meal. It was very good, almost filling as meal and great "hair of the dog" hangover cure. Our first experience here. Overall a solid 4-star! Food between the buns were freshly and creatively prepared. Fries were just ok and served lukewarm! Unfortunately the Draft Beer tab was out of order. Which was fairly disappointing on such a hot summer day! And we were not about to order beer in the can! The service was very good the hostess and the waitress both seemed engaged and caring. The sitting arrangements were great both inside and on the patio where we sat. It's a small establishment, which surprised me for some reason. - Washington has a fairly long bar with seating that is decent but can get cramped, if the number of stools around the bar is any indication. Were they to be all occupied, no way I'd be comfortable. - OK tap list, not small, not large. - Ambiance is metallic, trendy. This is not a pub. - On my first visit, service started slow with the barkeep not even present for quite a while after I arrived but picked up after that with prompt, friendly attention. - Fish taco (happy hour menu): very nice. The tacos are not large, so if this is your only selection, you might need three. Tacos come with a really tasty green aioli. - Brussels sprouts (happy hour menu): also good, if a bit cheesy (blue cheese). The menu says 'serrano ham' but my order simply had bacon pieces on top. I imagine if you ask to hold the ham (bacon), it becomes vegetarian. read more

The Washington is great. Every time we go, we enjoy ourselves. They make really good salads and their bloody Mary's excellent.

Generally easy to get in for breakfast, with or without a reservation, which makes this a good choice for groups. Food is reliable and yet not boring. Service is always great and quick, as well as knowledgeable. Couldn't imagine Bend without this gem. read more

The Benoit donuts are the best thing here. However if you want coffee it sucks and espresso they don't have any so it's kind of a lame place. Besides the Benoit the food is okay not great. I would ideally skip this place and go to Jackson corner. It's a way better breakfast place!! read more
