BRUSSELS SPROUTS
Victoryia G.

I spent the weekend in DC for my birthday and no matter where I am I crave pizza! We went in the evening after a long day! We chose the outdoor seating because I had my dog. The server was so kind he brought my dog water. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive but not annoying. He was very suprised about our ranch consumption lol.. I ordered pepperoni with sausage and onions along with fries and Brussels! The Brussels were perfect. The pizza was so fresh and cheesy! And the fries... so so good. The best oven baked fries I've ever had. My friend got a "build your own pizza " and the waiter called it a random pizza 10/10 service and the food went perfectly with the vibe. I really appreciated the greenery in the patio area .Dog friendly is a plus!

14" RANDOLPH PLACE

I tried takeout from here last night and ordered two pizzas. We got the Crispus Attucks (vegetarian) and Randolph Place (meaty), along with Brussels sprouts and a burrata salad. What stood out to me right away was how refreshingly light the pizzas were. They are not as oily as other spots I've tried, which was perfect for my taste. The dough was fresh and airy, with a nice chew to it. Between the pizzas and sides, the portions were solid--easily enough to feed six females. Overall, it's a great option for a more balanced take on pizzas, especially if you're looking for something satisfying without the grease.

BACIO'S WINGS

Fantastic service. They were accommodating for myself and my service dog. The food was incredible. I got the Buffalo Wings as an appetizer and the 10" Eckington. Both were amazing and left nothing to be desired. The atmosphere of the dining room upstairs was comfortable and warm. Felt like a scene out of a movie. Especially if you get one of these balcony seats. 10/10 will be back.

This is one of those spots I consider to be a "hidden gem" because I've never heard anyone talk about it and it's slightly tucked away in the shaw neighborhood. We stumbled upon it while looking for a dog-friendly spot to grab lunch last Saturday. They have a cute patio which is decorated in two very different ways - the covered patio is very classic, wicker chairs and simple decor (with heaters for once the weather turns colder). The open patio has a very trendy decor style, with faux flowers and a cute wall that would make for a nice photo background. The service was great - we were the first ones there for lunch but even as it got busier, our server was always around and ready to help us out. I grabbed a local Senate lager from Right Proper Brewing Co and my husband grabbed an Amber beer. We started with the French fries and Brussel sprouts, which were good. My husband felt the brusell sprouts were a little undercooked, but I liked them as-is. For pizza: he did a plain cheese and I got the Randolph Place. I loved that so many of the names were true to DC and paid homage to neighborhoods!! I would describe the pizza as similar to a dominoes pizza style - but waaayyyy elevated. They aren't on the same tier at all, but I draw the comparison when thinking of crust thickness; that style of pizza I haven't really had anywhere else. This place uses the highest quality ingredients, everything was fresh, and the pizza was cooked to the PERFECT level of done-ness. Crispy crust, beautiful bubbling of the cheese, and the sauce is JUST right. Next time I was to try one of their organic cocktails which are advertised, and maybe the mozz sticks, which look bomb! This spot, Andy's Pizza, and Della Barba hold the title as top 3 pizza joints in DC (in my mind). Go check them out!

On a quick trip to DC, when a friend asked if there was a good pizza place in the area, I remembered Bacio's quaint patio on a side street in Shaw. I'm glad I did because on a surprisingly cool summer evening, there was little more one could ask for than sipping on an Aperol spritz here and sharing a bruschetta as the afternoon winded down. We shared a pizza with gorgonzola and caramelized roasted garlic, and a Nona option with chunks of eggplant on top, both delicious pies somewhere between Neapolitan and a NY slice pie. While perusing the menu, we noticed a white cheese filo pastry advertised that sounded suspiciously like sigara böreği. After some inquiring, we found out that the owner is in fact Turkish! We tried an order and enjoyed the unique baked variety paired with marinara sauce.

Unfortunately like so many places that start off great, this is crumbling under terrible customer service. When a place is charging upwards of $40 for a 14" pizza, you have to excel across the board. The city is too expensive for weak excuses.

soooooo yum. the food is super good and fresh, the place is super small and cute, but very nice. i would definitely go back, and would be fun for a date night. the staff is great, great restaurant!

CALZONE (CUSTOMIZED)
Boobie D.

uber eats delivered but the calzone was huge && worth every dollar because im sure you cant finish the entire thing in one sitting! all the food was fresh except the mozz sticks were okay as they seems not to be fried enough (thank goodness for a airfryer reheat)! i would for sure order from here again the next time im craving a calzone! might try the pizza next too. its the ninja turtle in me?

Restaurant was amazing! All the food tasted delicious and came out quickly on Valentine's Day. Can't wait to come back again soon

Oh how I want to give this place more stars! But, let me share my experience. I was introduced to this place over the weekend and thought I'd give them a personal try. I walk up and there it is a quaint little restaurant. Who would have known! We decide to eat in since they have their patio. The Flies were like vultures and it was hard to eat in peace. I strongly recommend taking out. As we are enjoying the meal, I hear a man start mumbling to himself. He goes in the establishment and comes out with all the employees. He is now scolding all of them, for what I could gather he was upset about trash and dirt on the sidewalk. Personally I didn't notice any of that, the big concern for me were the DC flies that were flying around the pizza. The issue for me was having to watch the employees get in trouble for something so meaningless. It was unprofessional and arrogant. I really love this place but I also love kind people and the owner was a tyrant. I hope he sees this and realizes how his actions made a repeat customer not ever want to come back. Did we receive a hello? Nope! Did he say thanks to us? Nope! Did he ask how are meal was? Nope! Yeah, How logical is that?

Very helpful staff, cute ice parlor vibes and decor..what's not to like! First, I can only indulge in dairy free products so while the selections here were few, the choice that I made was surprisingly shocking-all cashew milk are not enjoyable lol. I ordered the raspberry cheesecake ice cream and honey, after one bite, I thought that I was eating dairy because it was THAT creamy and good! Filled with flavor and delicious to the last drop, I thoroughly enjoyed it on a sugar cone. But here is where I laugh to myself because I sat outside, enjoyed a delicious ice cream and decided to then try a patty lol yes! I ordered one of the curry chicken patty and as a native Island gal, this place knows how to blend their flavors. Those patties were buttery soft and filled with flavor inside-ENJOYED IT! Would I return? YES! I do hope that they expand their vegan flavors but yes yes yes! It's hot in the District, stop by local and enjoy a well deserved treat.

I even love that they offer single serving banana pudding in the perfect size container so that you can enjoy without over indulging. They have a great list of unique rotating flavors, and it's always fun to come back to try out their new seasonal releases. A few of my favorites over the years have been their hibiscus sorbet -- a delightful dairy-free addition to their Hispanic Heritage Month flavors that is the perfect balance of tangy and sweet -- the cinnamon cardamom -- a super spiced ice cream that, despite being freezing cold, feels like you're about to drink a warm beverage -- and blueberry sour cream crumble. When I'm feeling less adventurous, they also have a really solid strawberry ice cream that uses real berries (none of that artificial nonsense you see in grocery stores) with a delightful fruity, slightly tangy flavor. There's usually a pretty long line, but it moves quite quickly since they don't allow samples. It's also a small space that gets crowded pretty easily, so I'd recommend taking your ice cream to go and enjoying it as you walk around Mt Pleasant or on the benches just below the entrance to Mount Desert.

Every scoop feels generous, almost like getting a scoop and a half, which makes each visit feel like a small treat and a bonus all at once. One of my favorite things about this shop is their doggy ice cream. My dog absolutely loves it, to the point where he screams if we walk by without stopping. It has become part of our routine, and watching him light up when he gets his own cup makes the stop even better. They also serve an ice cream taco in the winter, and I cannot wait for it to come back. It is fun, a little quirky, and exactly the kind of seasonal special that keeps things interesting. The walk up window is another huge plus. It makes grabbing ice cream with my dog easy and enjoyable, especially on nice days when you just want something quick and tasty. Mount Desert Island Ice Cream delivers great flavors, generous scoops, and thoughtful touches that make it stand out. It is a place I look forward to every time.

When I stopped by, it was raining heavy, but the walk from the metro was totally worth it. I stepped inside, heard some great R&B jams playing, and I made my way to work that amazing smell was coming from. Along the way, I passed some cute merch -- insulated bags and more. And then there was a freezer with all of their pints, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream cakes. I got up to where the scoops are being served, and there was a very helpful sign next to it with all of the descriptions. I appreciate it the thorough breakdown of what has allergens, what has dairy, and what is vegan. I pretty much tried everything. My favorites were the vegan ones (spiced peanut crunch, tamarind spice), the spiced date cake, saffron pistachio, mangos & cream, black forest... I could keep going. I split a generous scoop of the spiced date cake & saffron pistachio and it was divine. I could've gotten some cool toppings too, but decided not to. It was $8 as is XD. It's definitely a splurge, but a unique flavor profile like this I think it's totally worth it. The pints are $12, which also isn't bad for something this unique imo. I'll be back to get some pints. The space is in the basement of two long townhouses with a small passage in the middle. It's an unusual layout, with the host stand around the middle of the first townhouse (a small bar area is in front of it) and I had no idea they had the second townhouse space until they took us through the small passage. It was a Wednesday at 6:30 PM and the place was busy. Our dining room was pretty noisy. It was also difficult to get the waiter's attention, because the long, narrow layout meant he couldn't see parts of our table. Also, at the start of the meal, he overfilled the water pitcher, spilling water on the table and floor. That said, he was very friendly and helpful with suggestions and splitting the bill. We visited for a minor special occasion, which the restaurant recognized with a small card -- this was a nice touch, and one that many higher end restaurant miss. The menu is very large and a bit overwhelming for a first time visitor. There are 16 desserts. I like the variety, but it feels like overkill, and frankly I'm skeptical of all restaurants with huge menus -- is every dish really a winner? will they execute everything well? (Side note: the website menus link to Canva files which are super annoying to browse) We got the Laing ($16) with mushrooms ($5), Chicken Adobo ($19), and Sizzling Sisig ($22). All three came with rice, with a small upcharge for garlic rice. The inclusion of rice, and the upcharge, could have been more clearly noted on the menu. We shared our dishes, and I would have liked some serving spoons included with them. My favorite was the Laing. I had never had it before, so the flavors were novel and I liked them a lot. The stewed taro leaves reminded me a bit of creamed spinach, in a good way. It had strong coconut flavor, plus some spice when you got a chili pepper. The adobo was good but not great. I liked that the chicken was deboned -- a pleasant surprise. Flavors were good, but I wanted them to be punchier. The Sisis was my least favorite. It was a standard version of the dish, not very interesting. We also had the Ube Bread Pudding with Ube Ice Cream ($12) for dessert. This was good, but I wouldn't describe it as a bread pudding. It was thinner and denser than a traditional bread pudding, with a shape and consistency that reminded me more of a brownie or a crumble. I would love to return and try more of the menu.
