I haven't had their food in several years and so glad I came back!! I feel like they improved on their recipes because it tastes so gosh darn delicious! I only did a carry out order but might have to take the girls here to enjoy the whole experience. I really want to try the buffet! Anyways, I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala (I really need to branch out) and it was delicious. The sauce was very creamy and smooth with the chicken. It was a little bit on the expensive side but this dish was enough for 2 servings so well worth the money. The Garlic Naan was very garlicy :-). The only thing I was bummed about was the heat. The food here is always good, however, it is probably one of the more pricey spots for more casual Indian food in Cincinnati. We have come in here a couple of times with an Entertainment coupon for the meal and both times it was not accepted. This seems to be an ongoing issue with the coupon book company and the restaurant. I'd say this is a pretty solid choice for Indian food in Cincinnati. The food has always been delicious for me. I go during lunch to get the buffet, and the prices are lower that way as well. I think the service could be better, you usually have to ask for refills and wave them down. But that being said, I've always had an overall quick experience since I can just do the buffet. came here yesterday with my father who wanted to try your food..well we ordered our food and had gotten it and i kid you not five minutes after getting our food we were brought a carry out box and was told we are closing until 4:30 so you must go..the waiter was rude and we couldnt believe we couldnt sit and eat they served us. i had never been here before and was shocked when told we had to leave. they could have told us when ordering that maybe you should order carry out because we close for a few hours a day. Always a solid meal here. The portions are huge and definitely shareable in my opinion. The wait staff is always very friendly and attentive. It's a little pricey but it's consistent. My only annoyance is that they come over all.the.time to refill water...like to the point where it is distracting to me and the conversations I'm involved in. This is my first time here. I read the reviews. Normally I would have avoided it. The location was my friends choice. The road in front is riddled with humongous pot holes. They do have a parking lot which is also a plus. The Food is great and smelled great from the outside. I noticed rat traps outside, I'm not sure if that's good or bad. The place looks pretty shabby. The exterior and interior really need some work. There's no music or television on. People stand around and stare which feels awkward. It was a rainy day so the rain water was actually dripping from the ceiling onto the floor beside our table. There wasn't even a bucket to catch the rain it was dripping in a puddle right onto the carpet. Some reviews said it smelled inside. I couldn't smell anything over the food smell. The plates and tables were clean though and the food tasted great. I heard nothing but compliments from the surrounding tables. They've got a nice selection on the lunch bar. From the moment you walk in the door, your senses are assailed with the most wonderful of aromas. And the food that followed, was excellent! My problem was with the "OVER-SERVICE". I was trying to enjoy a nice dinner with my daughter, on my visit to Cincinnati. I her get to see her often and we wanted to relax and enjoy the meal. We were handed the bill halfway through the meal, the waiter took our condiments off of the table to give to another table. There were only 3 tables filled at a very early dinner time, so there should have been no rush. He started cleaning off our table, while we were both still eating, and ended up spilling water all over me and the table in his eagerness to take everything. No one was waiting for our table, no need for this extreme rush, and why he couldn't go back to the kitchen to take fresh condiments to the other table is a mystery. [tldr]One of the best spots in town for chicken tikka masala, albeit for a dollar or two more than most[/tldr] When I splurge for lunch and get indian food, it is almost invariably chicken tikka masala and a garlic naan. The best of breed for these two items is - for me - at Deep India in Clifton. But Deep is hard to get to from where I work, and parking when UC is in session is a bad joke told daily. So I end up at what is for me the second best spot in Cincinnati - Baba's Baba's is in a building that was once, long long ago, a Hardees; and though they have done their best to dress the insides up a bit, it is still evident that this was a fast food joint at one time, same as the Yat Ka Mein in the old Arby's just a few blocks south. The exterior is getting particularly shabby, but don't let this steer you away from a good meal The chicken tikka masala here is every bit as good as Deep's, and I rate it second only because it is a bit more expensive. The naan is very good but doesn't usually have the nice crispy edges you get at Deep, and of course, at Deep the naan is free at lunch with purchase of an entree. Most folks seem to come in here for the buffet, which I believe is only offered at lunchtime. I have not yet had it as I don't tend to have time for anything but carryout for lunch, but it always looks good. They do vary it up from day to day, and it seems to have a bit more variety than other indian buffets I have been to. Sometimes, thankfully, they have garlic naan, while most places just offer plain naan. At the risk of repeating myself, yes, the buffet is also a bit more expensive than other comparable Indian buffets in this area Spice levels range from 1 to 6, and I have found them to be very consistent, which is good, given how wimpy I am when it comes to high spice heat. Obsessed. I love Indian food, and Baba has the best. As some of the other reviewers have said, it's a very low key restaurant, but consistently excellent. I always order the same thing, the vegetable platter (various fried vegetarian things--including a samosa, fried cheese, potato pancake, pakora), saag paneer, and garlic naan. All delicious, all the time. For the main course they ask you to order on the spice scale 1-6, I usually go 4-5. I don't think they register the spiciness at this one as much as they do at Kanak--their restaurant in Montgomery, where a 5 was nearly too spicy for me. The best part is the assortment of sauces/chutneys. Like many Indian restaurants, they have a spicy tomato chutney, plum sauce, and I think a mint jalapeno type one... To be honest, I don't really know what they are. But they are exquisite. I put them on everything. They have a nice assortment of alcohol. Service is so-so, they're not overly friendly, but are very attentive. I'm overlooking service because the food is so good. They offer carry out, and I've never had a wait. The buffet is $8.50 I think, and dinner is around $40 for 2 people, including alcohol. Just go. Do it. And if you can't go to this one, go to one of their other ones (I think they're run by the same family, but the only other one I've been to is Kanak in Montgomery). Oh, Baba. How shall I sing the praises of one of my favorite takeout Indian spots around this fair city? I have never eaten at your restaurant but I have had takeout more than a dozen times. The food is consistently delicious, a claim I cannot make about several other takeout spots. Some highlights include a super garlic-y Garlic Nan and a Nav Rattan Korma with paneer already added. The Samosas are also well spiced and the outside crispy. Be sure to get extra mint chutney and tamarind. They are crucial. My only complaint is that they do not deliver to Northside. Ok, they don't deliver at all but if they delivered to Northside that would be super. In conclusion, call in an order here and drag your lazy bum to the restaurant for takeout. Worst customer service ever. Don't even bother coming here. My boyfriend and I live right next to Baba India and figured why not try it. Our first round of plates were good until I went up for round 2 and found a piece of hair in the rice! I tried telling the owner but he was being a complete b*tch about it and took 2 petty dollars off my f*cking tab. OH & their cooks don't wear nets on their mustaches either. The food is great as like Ambar (same owners). The perk is that the buffet allows you to get your food quickly which can be a challenge at times when visiting Ambar during lunch hours. I'm somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for Baba. The first 3-4 times I went there, it was great. It seems like my food recently hasn't been as amazing, but I'm not sure why. I think they must have gotten a new cook (or I started going at a different time), because the spice levels don't seem to be consistent. This is a big problem for me because I'm a wimp and can't tolerate much heat, so if it's too hot then I just can't eat it. Then I order a 1 and it's not interesting enough. What I have had there is the saag paneer, which I love, and the chicken tikka masala, which is also excellent. I've had the buffet once, which is nice to try new things (though when I went there weren't very many choices). There is usually a coupon on Valpak.com or citysearch, so check that out before you go (not valid for the lunch buffet and maybe for weekends). This is my favorite Indian food in the city!!! I base my opinion on two of my favorite Indian food dishes: paneer makhani and chicken tikki saag. I've tried both dishes at several Indian restaurants in the city and Baba has the best - hands down! I typically order one of the two and my husband orders the other. We each get a piece of naan and fill up. We easily get an additional meal each to take home. You can also easily find $4 off coupons for Sunday - Thursday. The only thing I dislike about Baba is the service. I'm always waiting for more water, more rice, etc. When I'm at one of four occupied tables in the entire restaurant I shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes for my water to be refilled. read more

Baba is by far my favorite Indian place in Cincinnati. The only things lacking are the service and the interior. The food is excellent. I like it the best here over Guru and Ambar (same owners). This location also appeals to me... though Ambar is probably the best location out of the three. There is plenty of parking here and to go orders are always prompt and correct. Their spice rating is 1-6 and you really do need to order a 5 or 6 to get any sort of spice out of it. I'm always cautious and go with a 3 or 4, but am always disappointed when there's no spice! Several friends have raved about Baba, and I finally decided to give it a try. Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations of the buffet size, but I was a little disappointed to find another average Indian restaurant. Don't get me wrong; everything I had was good. From my friends' testimonials I thought the buffet would have more variety...something that would surpass, say, Dusmesh. I also expected more because the same folks who own Ambar own Baba. The buffet had about six different kinds of curry, however only one was vegetarian: saag paneer. The rest had chicken, even the mushroom curry. For appetizers there were samosas but no pakoras. There were also no small bowls for mixing the coriander chutney and tamarind sauce. Again, the food was good, it just didn't live up to the reputation that I've heard about the restaurant. I frequently eat at Guru India down in NKY and and it's always delicious so when I was up in the Hyde Park area I decided to try Baba India as it is owned by the same people. It was 4:00 on a Sunday and the place was empty except for one other group. The waitress was friendly and quick with getting our order and bringing our food out. The food was the exactly the same as Guru India so I had no complaints there. I honestly don't see how Indian food could get any better! read more

I'm a huge Indian food fan and had been searching for a great Indian restaurant since moving to Cincinnati last year. I'm a little picky, but I think I finally met my match at Baba. Baba is located in one of my favorite eastside neighborhoods, Oakley, and offers a killer lunch buffet. It's sister location is the famous Ambar in Clifton, which I haven't tried, so I can't speak to the similarities or differences. The selection at Baba isn't huge, but the food is incredible. The naan was cooked perfectly, and every dish I tried was great. The buffet is $10 per person, which is pretty standard compared to others in the area. The wait staff was friendly and I loved how attentive they were with refilling my drink. As far as the spice, the food wasn't extremely spicy, which I kind of liked, but may be a let-down to some. Wholly mediocre. Granted I came in for a buffet but still. The aloo paratha / naan was so dense and difficult to eat. You know that kind of speaks to the rest of the meal. The pakora was dry and lifeless. The chicken in the curries was so dry it sucked all of the water out of my mouth. The kafta might have been made out of sawdust. The sauces were pretty good so I ended up eating sauce and rice. Saag muttar was ok. A little funky from some strong mushroom flavor but the highlight compared to the other dishes. They have hands down the best appetizers I've had at an Indian restaurant. We had the aloo tika and the paneer pakora. The naan was okay, not bad but not the best I've had in Cincinnati. Their navratan korma was delicious, so much so that I forgot completely that it was a vegetarian dish by the time I'd finished. I have been a patron on Baba from 8 years now. In that time I moved from Cincy to Washington DC and searched high and low for an Indian joint as good as Baba's chicken tikka masala. In my 7 years in that hugely diverse city with Indian on every corner, I never once found a place as good as Baba. Every time I'm in Cincy Baba is on my list of must haves.
