The grape leaves were better than I was expecting and really refreshing. I would have liked a little bit more seasoning on the chicken, but it was excellent!! My husband and I used to get takeout from Al Madina all the time when we lived on UC's campus. It had been a few years since we had it, so we ordered takeout the other night with some friends. We both got the shawarma wraps and our friends ordered a large hummus and two wrap platters. The hummus was insanely large! (like an entire regular sized takeout container full!) But sadly they forgot to give us anything to dip in it.... so it's sitting in my fridge as I type this. The flavor was decent, but not the best I've had. The shawarma wrap, however, was even better than I remembered it. The grilled bread is so delicious I think I could eat it plain. The garlic sauce is real toum and the pickles give the wrap the perfect tang. read more

Shoot! After almost 3 great years Al Madina is not what it used to be. The salad was brown and wilted, the tomatoes past their prime and the potatoes were under cooked. The chicken shawarma was dry. There are seats to have your food, but it's not a dining experience in any way. I came in with friends and got the Falafel sandwich. My friends got Chicken shawarma. Being essentially fast food, the wrap was ready immediately. None of us were shy and got it spicy. And oh my God - so good! They didn't skimp on the falafels or tahini. It was a good wrap. My friend asked for garlic sauce and they just gave us some. For $8, this was a good meal! For drinks, they do have most soda and juice options up for purchase. I also spotted packaged cookies and baklavas in case anyone wanted to buy them. Parking is limited to on street parking and I've never not found parking there. The best chicken sandwich in Cincinnati and perhaps the world is at this unassuming restaurant-chicken shawarma with everything on it (including spicy sauce). This sandwich comes in beautiful, freshly- made pita bread with perfectly- seasoned chicken, and ample lettuce, tomato, and onion. Came here over the weekend for some quick take out lunch. I was in the University of Cincinnati area and was craving some middle eastern food. It was a short walk from the campus union--only about a 15 min walk. They had one long counter running the length of the restaurant that you order from. I picked up the Al-Madina combo for 1. I was a little hesitant that it wouldn't be enough for 2 people, but quickly realized that they are very liberal with their serving sizes. The dish came with 3 types of meat, a falafel, a salad and rice. My favorite of the 3 meats was the chicken shawarma. They were well seasoned large cubes and the paired well with the garlic sauce that comes with every dish. If you are in the University area I would highly recommend this place! Best lunch spot in Clifton (by far). I'm whiter than mayonnaise and I stop in to Al madina almost every week. Their falafel sandwich is genuinely one of the best deals available anywhere. The veggies are fresh, the pitas are made right in front of you still warm by the time you get home and eat it, and the sauces they put on are so flavorful it brings tears to my eyes. I usually just get a sandwich and a drink and that only runs me around 10$ (for a sandwich large enough to overfeed 1 person) The guys working are super nice too. Asked my daughter & son in law to pick up dinner and meet us at the game. They showed up with grape leaves and some gyro-looking things. They're both pretty trendy, so I give them full carte blanche with the dinner selection. First, they opened the grape leaves... Now, I've had Mediterranean before - one of my closest friends on the Eastern Shore is a Greek who makes wonderful Grape Leaves, but these would make even Andy's eyes pop. Just a little hint of vinegar in there, and wow! So worth the extra splurge! Then they offered two wraps. One was Falafel, one Buffalo Chicken. When I asked why they would buy two for me, they said both of them were wonderful, and they wanted me to decide which one I liked best. Well, the falafel was unlike any I've ever eaten before - the falafel was packed full of flavor, and the charred wrap was an absolutely perfect pairing for the combination. I was full, but there was also a dessert tray they picked up. Turns out my dessert stomach wasn't full just yet...Looked like six different kinds of baklava, but each one was a totally different experience - some honey, some nutty, all delicious.
