I first tried Mayas at Taste of Cincinnati and was immediately hooked! Just ordered again from DoorDash and I can confirm it is just as good the second time around. The chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan are by far the best I've had; you can tell they spend a lot of time infusing flavor into the chicken itself and not just the sauce (although that sings by itself as well). I also took a chance and ordered something new, the Paneer Papadi Chat, and was pleasantly surprised. It's like nothing I've ever had before, but comforting at the same time. Whatever the crunchy bits are (samosa dough pieces maybe?), they're absolutely fantastic in breaking up the soft potato texture. My food also arrived still hot, which I found impressive since it travelled from Delhi to Covington. 12/10 absolutely my favorite Indian food in Cincy, and I don't think that'll be changing any time in the near future!

I got to try Mayas when they brought a food truck to Opera in the Park this weekend. The food smelled wonderful and the taste, perfect. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan and it was terrific. A number of people stopped to see what I was eating and where I got it. When I told them they ran to get their own! Now having tried Mayas, I can't wait to give their restaurant a try!

This place really did not look like much from the outside; they had some parking spaces in the back but I skipped them because of the potholes. The inside was small, but nicely decorated. While there were other people eating there, this place seemed to be doing a ton of takeout. The crowd was very Cincinnati; when you see someone with dubious facial piercings holding the door open politely for everyone else that got their takeout first, you know you're in the Midwest. I got a choley bhatura. I disagree with their choice of how to serve it; the dish is nominally chickpea curry with bread for dipping, but they give rice too, which is redundant and is a bunch of unnecessary carbs. I'd prefer they had some more traditional accompaniments (like onions, chili peppers, lemon, mango pickle, these are common). Still, the chickpeas I got on a high spice level delivered on flavor and did make me sweat a bit, and the bread was fresh and delicious. The milk tea I added tasted more like actual tea than a lot of such beverages do. I find myself thinking that they are probably popular for takeout for a reason, as it was fresh and satisfying.

This place is very unassuming from the outside but so quaint and homey on the inside. The food was amazing and so full of flavor. We had the curry chicken, chicken makhani and plain naan. Can't wait to come back and try other items off the menu!

Great Indian food on the west side of Cincinnati. I ended up ordering a chicken tikka masala (take out) and serving size was generous. There was plenty of chicken and sauce, and a very large helping of rice. You can order it on a spice level of 0-6. I ended up getting a 5 and I can assure you that it is spicy, and very delicious. I will definitely be coming back here again and again. Definitely explore their menu, because everything is fantastic You can even place an order through the yelp app! Which is fulfilled through Grubhub.

Me annoyed after a lame experience. Luckily better restaurants exist and will take you. 9:05 on a Friday night is "too late". Haha.

Is this location still open ? We received coupons in the mail yesterday that said new location and only listed an address on Ludlow. I really hope it's just another location for them!

Food has always been amazing! We always sample different things and enjoy it every time. This is a super easy place to come to. Parking is plentiful out front and there is plenty of street parking in case if their private lot is full. There is plenty on the menu and we thoroughly enjoy everything! I typically get one of their sampler platters. It just has everything on it from naan to good pallet cleansers and then overall good proteins with curry. It has always been superb and well worth it! I think this place might be owned by The same family or they are related to the family that owns one of the other Indian restaurants that we enjoy going to. Everything is pretty on par with them so we know we are always getting good food every time we come. Nothing really much else to say except this place is definitely a winner and it has been around for quite a while. Definitely worth a visit for some good Indian food!

Oh my goodness, I wanted to love this place. It's been around forever and I recall coming here in…read moremy very distant past. We planned to meet at 6 pm on a Tuesday. The place was empty and boy were we popular! LOL We still needed to wait for our third. We were visited a few times before she arrived. I really can't complain about attentiveness. The restaurant itself seems clean, but there was nothing extraordinary about the decor. FYI - other people did arrive while we were there. The entire experience was all over the board. The service was over the top, but certainly attentive. The food was good, but not great. We all ordered Dal Soup, and here's where things went slightly awry. Mark and I received our soup first. It was good. Another bowl of soup (?!?) arrived for our friend. It was THICK compared to mine. In fact, mine was fully liquid and hers was overflowing with lentils. THEN... another soup came out. We were so very confused we were still asking about the thick lentil soup (?) at the end of the meal. We were told it is supposed to be eaten with the rice, or whatever you might be eating. I'm still not sure I understand. I ordered my go-to, Saag Paneer. Mark and I split a Garlic Naan. The naan was great. The flavor, the temperature, the consistency.. it was perfect. My Saag Paneer was good, but when it was delivered the server called it something along the lines of 'Chicken Saag', which is not what I ordered. I mentioned I ordered Saag Paneer, which cheese, not chicken. She then told me it was Saag Paneer. Indeed it was, but can we compound the overall confusion for the evening? Yes we can. Mark had Chicken Tikka Malasa or something similarly named. Be ordered it with a spiciness of 5 out of 6. His review of his meal... it was hot (and he likes "hot") and that was about it. Flavor was either overpowered by the spice level or simply didn't exist. Either way, he was unimpressed... and he loves Indian food. It's really his review that brings us to a three-star review. I tasted one small piece of our friend's Tandoori Chicken. This was after she packed leftovers for her daughter. The piece I tried was small, tender and had a strong flavor of some type of sauce. I think generally the Tandoori Chicken was dry (meaning not wet), but there had to be some sauce on the plate. Bottom line... for us, Ambar India Restaurant provided typical Indian cuisine. And though the staff were super attentive, we found ourselves confused. The food is good and if you live in the area it's a good spot for Indian, though there are many options in the area. We hadn't been in decades. Our most recent visit won't bring us back... mostly because there are so many Indian options in the city. Ambar isn't one we'll need to come back to. Sorry, no pics.
