I read about this new restaurant in the Enquirer and was anxious to eat at this little place in Old Mason. It was so lovely to have chef Appy be so present in the meal experience. Her place only seats about 14 or so people so when we got there for lunch on a Thursday, we had to wait outside about 5 minutes for a table. The menu is whatever she decides to make that week and is about 4 or 5 items. We ordered one of everything to share (except dessert). Everything was great. The chicken in the Tikka Masala was tender and the lentils in the Dahl were great. I forget the names of the other two dishes, but they were good too. I was so excited to try this place. Upon arrival at 1pm sharp, the owner turns me away and says they ran out of food.. What? Seriously? Who runs out of food only 2/3 into their lunch service? This little gem in Mason is awesome! The menu is only 2 items - 1 meat, 1 vegetarian, the dining room is small - just like 6 small tables but it is legit like having lunch at your auntie's place. It's female owned but her family sometimes pops in to help with catering orders, etc. With that in mind, we popped in to visit for lunch on a Saturday afternoon when she happened to be open only for take out due to several catering orders. She saw it was us (as her regular guests) and we were bringing others to try her food for the first time, she invited us in and served us family style and left us be to enjoy lunch. Her food is delicious and she genuinely enjoys cooking for people. I am happy to support her small business. read more

This is a hidden gem in Mason! While a small restaurant without a lot of flair in decor, the food & service are extraordinary! The owner is so sweet, as is her son who works there, and they took time to explain each thing in the menu. We had the Samosa Chaat appetizer (which easily could be a meal), Paneer Tikka Masala, MKK Butter Chicken, and Daal Makhani. Everything was fresh and so delicious with a real depth of flavor that I find lacking in many local Indian restaurants. They don't offer spice levels and say their dishes are mild to medium. I don't tolerate spicy foods well & found the food to be more than medium to medium. However, it isn't just hot, but flavorful, which makes it so you can actually still taste the food. I was able to tolerate the spicier than my usual preference because it was so delicious. Their MKK Butter Chicken is different than most, with a smoked flavor and a thinner sauce vs. the usual creamier gravy. Much to my surprise, my favorite dish was the Daal Makhani with yummy black lentils and such flavor. Their rice also was perfectly cooked. Portions are generous & my lunch-sized portion gave me lunch the next day as well. I love MKK kitchen and definitely will be back! read more

Everything here is made fresh daily and with only two items per day you know it's going to be good. I had the Shahi Mixed Veg which is a medley of veggies cooked in a cream and tomato gravy. Some Indian restaurants skimp on the fillings but not Kolorful Kitchen, the gravy was absolutely packed with veggies. Paired with jasmine rice and your taste buds are in heaven. You can find their weekly menu on their website or on their Instagram page, so you can come in and grab it or do a preorder online. A nice quaint little Indian Eatery in Mason Downtown. They have only 2 options and I think it is one veg and the other non-veg. We went today and the menu was smoked Butter Chicken and Chickpea Masala and I must say that food was just so fresh and delicious. The owner was so warm and nice it almost felt like we were eating a dream meal at home. The cardamom mousse was delectable, so fluffy and light. I avoid eating at Indian places in the afternoon as post lunch I experience a food coma like situation. But the feel is quite the opposite here, I feel light and ready to go.
