I haven't tried Raja since their buffet days, so a visit was overdue. I was hesitant to try them again due to the very aggressive menu pricing. I came in expecting the best paneer makhani ever, a very high bar was set. I truly expected a "Fine Indian Cuisine" at that price point. My food was very tasty and high quality! I enjoyed the dish, the paneer was freshly made, gravy was tasty, and spice was on point. I like 6/6 spicy. The rice did not have any unhealthy seed oils in it which I appreciated. The rice also had cumin and cloves it in. Nice touch, I really liked that! If the price point was closer to their direct competitors ($15-$16) this would be a 5 star review. $18 is pushing it for a vegetarian Indian dish of good, but not exceptional size. I'll be back for carry out because the food was very tasty, but the price point is a bit too high for me to justify making Raja a regular on my weekly rotation. read more

Raja gets the distinction of being the worst Indian cuisine in the area I have tried thus far, and the worst Indian across the 3 states I have lived in. Oh, and it also gave me food poisoning. This is based on an order that was delivered. Probably ok to order: Vegetable Samosas: most of the ones I've tried are better than this one. Very meh. You should avoid ordering: Shrimp Bhuna: it was tomato soup with some shrimp and veggies, missing spices. Have had Bhuna before elsewhere, and it is not this. Onion Naan: usually it has a white, yellow, or sweet onion, this had red, which gave it an off flavor. Also, the flour used tasted atypical. Chicken Tikka Masala: Again, sauce was off here. My husband ordered this, and liked that it was shredded chicken, but did not think it was the correct flavor. Please go elsewhere for your Indian cuisine fix! read more

I tried the Fish Tikka for the first time and I will say if you like salmon OMG you seriously have to try this. Heavy on onions, but I like onion. Wow! This was a great meal. We ordered a sampler plate of the appetizers, a couple potato ones, a veggie one, a cheese one and every single one was amazing! Then between the four of us we ordered an Tandori chicken, a biryani chicken, chicken saag, chicken, gobhi gosht and a Paneer Bhatura. It was all amazing! This is a very nice family run authentic Indian restaurant. Service was great, he was super helpful, explaining items and helping us navigate what to try and all his recommendations were great! This restaurant was recommended to us by someone who has eaten a lot of Indian in India and we recommend with no hesitation. I have gotten their Chicken Koorma for years. It's spicy and creamy and flavorful. With the rice and amazing naan, sometimes I just crave it. It's so good!!! OHHHHH my .. I'm overly excited to write this review. The experience I had at this restaurant will have me coming back time and time again for dinner. I met a friend here and when we were seated the place was empty (it was a Monday night so that's fair).. We were greeted by a man who was so friendly, I had considered getting the mango juice to start and he promised me I would like the lassi better.. he even brought me a sample of it !! It was actually delicious, not overly sweet and not overly creamy. I was really thankful he allowed me to sample. Next up got the vegetable samosas, these were perfection, they were huge and full of flavorful ingredients, they came out with 3 sauces and the best one by far was the green sauce with mint oh em gee ... He brought me extra bc it was so amazing. I'm vegetarian so I asked him what his recommendation was as I usually get a paneer or channa dish, he actually recommended the eggplant. I love Indian and I love eggplant so I said yep let me try your recommendation and wow I am so glad I did !! Like spicy and I got a level 3, that was plenty enough spicy for me, enough to have to take some drinks as a cleanser while eating. My friend got the goat curry and said it was also excellent and we wrapped those all together with the garlic naan. I tell you what I am pretty certain I've been to majority of the Indian restaurants around Cincy and this was by far my fav. We stayed and talked for a long time and eventually the family I believe owned the restaurant came in for dinner and to see each other which made for a really nice warming family atmosphere. If any one wants to be cheated this is the restaurant to visit. Their price is half more than other Indian Restaurants and the quantity they serve is half less than we get in other Indian Restaurants. I got a hand written bill for $ 80 plus tax. When I paid the bill, the cashier gave me an ordinary receipt where there was no tax amount mentioned. I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala as well as the Chicken Curry. Personally I like my food spicy so I get a level 5 or 6 for each of these dishes. My first time every trying Indian food ( I was sure I did not like it) but I came here during Cincinnati Asian week and I got to try a few different items, and I liked them all! Portions of course are hearty, and everything is made to order and comes out hot and delicious! I had the chicken Makhani and it was very creamy and had excellent flavor. Their Naan is fluffy, soft, and the garlic Naan is a MUST! A super helpful staff, and the gentleman we had as our server (he was in his 20s and very handsome) was so nice, and helpful in how to order and was truly such a gem of a guy! I was nervous about not know what to order or how to order, but he made it so easy. The space is nothing fancy or exciting, but simple seating, and they also offer carry-out. TIP- you can even ask for one of their bottled Indian beers with your to-go order. You just have to take a Taj Majhal beer to go with your dinner. Their buffets was not open when I went, but they apparently have one normally outside of Covid conditions. read more

A usual favorite. We have a few really great choices in the Mason, Liberty Township and West Chester areas offering Indian cuisine. This is definitely one of the good ones. The restaurant itself isn't anything fancy. It doesn't need to be. The food and the service have always spoken for themselves. Typically I get the same things every time. The lamb korma and the lamb Biryani are always on point. Two of my favorites. Raja uses a spice level of 1 - 6. If you like spicy, I typically get a 5. That's got a good amount of heat to it. The garlic naan and other curry dishes are always excellent. We've never had bad service at this location. Great people and always a good time. Would I go back? Yes. It's not right around the corner from us so it's not always our first choice but we definitely like to go here a few times a year. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

Let me start this by first off saying..I freaking love Indian food. I can't get enough of it and I keep finding new dishes that are better than the rest. I've been eating lunch lately in several different Indian restaurants around the area so I feel like I've got a good grasp on what's great and not so great. Raja is ok. Not Great but ok. I feel like there dishes could be hotter, more flavorful. Service is great, quick and attentive. But the overall meal just is not 5/4 star quality. They do offer a buffet for lunch which isn't anything fancy. (This does let people sample a lot of the menu) I looked over the buffet and didn't see anything that wowed me but I gave it a shot anyway. I should have ordered off the menu. The buffet food was luke warm...gross. I felt they should have offered more chicken dishes (or any meat). The chicken curry was not good. I did enjoy the Saag, and tried a new dessert dish that was quite good. (It had Indian spice smell/taste but was very sweet) While eating I also notice nats flying around my table...not good. I probably won't be back, just to many other great Indian restaurants to try. read more

Great hidden gem. My family loves their food. We go about every other week. The servers and management are very friendly.

Our company has been providing daily lunches for its employees and supporting local restaurants, including Raja India, since the start of the pandemic. Raja's staff has been outstanding in their willingness to help us and the food has always been delicious. We're not in the catering business, so occasionally we'll make mistakes managing the 30-50 different orders per day for our employees. Unfortunately, one of our employees was affected by an incorrect order recently and left an unfavorable review regarding this restaurant. We've occasionally seen orders from other restaurants incorrectly labeled and we've certainly made our own share of mistakes along the way. We're all human. We regret that the mistake, whether through the fault of our own staff or through an honest mistake by the hard-working staff at Raja, would have such an impact on one of our employees. I encourage you to try Raja India. Given our track record I think you will enjoy your meal. And please support your local restaurants and other businesses. We're all in this together. read more

That should tell ya about the quality of food. And the prices are much much higher than other Indian restaurants in the area. Your microwaved 2 days old curry tastes much better than their food. My Husband loves learning about new types of food and cooking, they went out of their way to share with us what the food is and how it's made, they even took him back to show him their Tandoori oven. He said it's the cleanest Kitchen in a restaurant he's ever seen! Dining area is the same way! The portions are always more than enough (and left overs for Tomorrow ;). First and foremost, I love Indian Food! I will say until we came to Raja, my husband and I thought there wasn't anything as good as Ambar. Then we discovered Raja Indian. I had seen someone post about them on Instagram and I wanted to give them a try. I must say this is our second favorite Indian food spot. Our first is still Ambar but this is a close second! Their food is pretty good and flavorful. The staff and service were also good. We always start with Papadam. Its a cracker that comes with three different sauces. One of the sauces is spicy with onions, one is sweet and the other is a green sauce. All were amazing! Their sauces are actually better than Ambar's! We love this dish. We also always get a Mango Lassi. Their Mango Lassi is good and we always enjoy this yogurt drink! It's cold, creamy and the mango adds the perfect pop of flavor. For dinner we always get Butter Chicken aka Chicken Makhani. We love this dish a lot, and it's our fav! We always order it no matter what restaurant we try. Sometimes we'll get the chicken curry but it depends. We really enjoyed their Butter Chicken. It was flavorful and the chicken was tender! Our only small complaint would have been, we would have preferred the sauce the chicken was in to be a little thicker. We didn't really have any complaints about the taste of the food. We also ordered a side of Garlic Naan with extra garlic and Raita. The Garlic Naan was perfect! They added the perfect amount of garlic. I love Naan with lots of garlic! The Raita was also good! Sometimes restaurants Raita is not what we like and is off. The is certainly a place to try. Overall, We enjoyed Raja's food and would certainly come back! read more

Raja India caters lunches to our office occasionally. The first time they catered - I ordered Malai Kofta (spice level 6) but it was extremely sweet and the Koftas were half cooked and very hard. Even though I understand Malai Kofta is a dish on the sweeter side, it tasted as if there was no effort made to make it spicy in any way - why ask the spice preference in that case? Other restaurants around the corner do much better in following the spice preferences and serving *cooked* food. I ate it anyway and thought to myself - since their Kofta is not good, let me try ordering Paneer curry next time. Today, I ordered Paneer Makhani for lunch with a side of garlic naan. No point mentioning my spice level preference for today's order because I did not get my Paneer curry in the first place, what I got was a non-vegetarian curry!!! I am a true vegetarian by nature & choice and did not attempt to eat chicken ever in my life. I realized it might be chicken after eating a little bit of it. (I was 100% confident it wasn't Paneer; I have also attached pictures for reference). I called the restaurant to politely let them know my experience that I ordered Paneer but what I received was rather something that's non-veg & I don't even eat non-vegetarian. The lady on the phone checked with the chef and told me that she was sure as she herself packed the lunches and she said that she remembers packing Paneer. I tried to explain her that - I could tell by the smell & taste of it that it was rather chicken & NOT Paneer. At this point, instead of trying to apologize or own up their mistake - she started saying - the lunch must have got replaced!! She made no sense... I got my lunch in the same closed & folded in the same brown bag that the restaurant packs - which had the curry, naan & rice altogether in it. There is NO WAY someone can replace the lunch at our office, if it was replaced, it must have happened at the restaurant itself which is again their fault, not mine! She was least bothered and did not try to own up the blunder they did. All I was expecting was a mere apology because eating chicken is not something I ever do & they have wasted my time & money by giving me the wrong item. She did not even care to apologize!! She replied as if I was lying to her for no reason. I do not recommend this restaurant. I wish this restaurant must have got closed during COVID instead of many other good restaurants which were sadly impacted. Their quality of food is not reliable nor any good, and the prices are high compared to the other Indian restaurants nearby.
