I continue to love love love this place. Definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants! I don't get here as much as I used to but besides them downsizing over the years, everything is the same. I usually always end up with the thal plate so I can take home leftovers. It comes with some appetizers as well that is good to use with the tamarind and the mint chutney. Service is always friendly for the most part. I think a family pretty much does most of the service here. I think the owner who was there at lunch and was doing a lot of bookkeeping is one of the friendliest people! Really glad that she shows just all the good service. Ambiance is comfortable as well. Love this place, hadn't gone in for some time. We recently went back and it was very intimate lighting and very calming inside. Our waiter was great, gave us a run down of the spice levels and even some history of the place. They have some of the best garlic naan around town (I'm a stickler for naan). We got the chicken makhani (a good switch up from butter chicken try it!) and saag paneer. Started with samosas though and ofc these always hit with the sauces. Overall 10/10 experience. read more

If you like Indian food this is a a very popular favorite in the area. Everything I've had is bursting with flavor. The fried cheese appetizer is unique but, it is cheese so perhaps one of the only things that won't blow up your tastebuds. The family that runs it is very organized, on point and clean. I ordered the vibdaloo curry with max spice that I wish I had done 4 or 5 rather then six, it was slightly overwhelming but, generally I like to be overwhelmed. Be careful. Little expensive. Everytime I have a disappointing dining experience I think "if only I had gone to guru instead" My absolute favorite restaurant! Having gone to many Indian restaurants in the area I can confidently say Guru is the best! I regret that I no longer live close enough to go as regularly as I used to! Babu is a wonderful and friendly server. I've never had any issue with the food, fresh, flavor, and quick to come out. Their takeout option is just as great! My personal favorite dish is the lamb biryani and I love their paneer pakora appetizer. They recently gifted me a mango (icecream?) on the house for my birthday, it was comparable to their mango lassi drink, which I also love! The restaurant is clean, I've never been sat at a dirty table or received dirty utensils, and as soon as you walk in you can smell all the wonderful spices used in their cooking! I really want to highlight the quality of their food in comparison to other Indian restaurants with similar menu items. They always get the texture and flavor of their dishes perfect. Twenty years ago, my colleagues working at the hospital with me in Avondale introduced me to Ambar India. I've been enamored since then, but as an NKY resident, the gaslight district isn't practical to access most days. The same family opened Guru India many years ago, and we've been blessed regularly with access to their delicious meals. I've not found a more buttery, savory, flavorful Chicken Tikka Masala in any US restaurant. I also find the Lamb Korma to be delectable. My wife's favorite is the chicken Jal-freze. Nan and Paneer Bhatura are both excellent, and we enjoy their KeemA Samosa appetizer when feeling particularly hungry. Dinner portions are enough for a meal and a next day meal or snack. Nearly every guest we've introduced to Guru has also become a regular. Excellent food! read more

I can't recommend this place. The food is overpriced and very mediocre. I've had Indian food in a several other cities and states and they all blow this place out of the water. I had the Chicken Tandoori and Mixed Vegetables. My dishes came out quick, too quick. My dishes were warm but not hot, the chicken was dry, and the vegetables lacked the rich complex flavor I've had at other places. The curry was very bland. It was as if they had a bunch of these dishes already prepared and sitting back in the kitchen, drying out. The portions were not big either, especially for the price. My bill came out to $42 for what was essentially one mediocre meal with very little leftovers. The service was also impersonable. I don't get why there are so many 4 and 5 stars. I went here last night with my husband, Mom and aunt. This was the first time that my aunt had ever eaten Indian food and she loved it! My husband and I have eaten here a few times here before and we enjoy it every single time that we come in and eat. I will be back here a few more times definitely with my husband to eat. I mentioned to my husband last night that I've been having a yen to eat some Indian food -- especially some well done Indian food and I wanted to come here to eat it, so we did eat there last night! My mom even enjoyed her meal as well -- particularly the Kashmiri naan that I ordered for her to eat with her meal. My favorite meal to get here is the saag with either shrimp, tofu or cheese in it, with a spice level of two, normally. If somebody has never eaten Indian food before, I would recommend eating here and getting the saag, with the tofu or cheese in it, with a spice level of two, because it's neither "too hot" or "too mild" -- it's very much "the middle of the road" for folks. I ordered chicken tandoori for takeout. The process to place a takeout order was easy, and the service was prompt. I have ordered this dish from a number of Indian restaurants around town, and usually each restaurant's interpretation is a little bit different. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed in what I received from Guru. Guru's chicken tandoori had no option to change the spice level; it was made with the normal mild level of spice. The dish came with lots of lightly grilled onions, a few green peppers, and a couple slices of tomato and lemon. The chicken had the characteristic red color, evidence of the marinade, but it was not flavorful, was a bit dry, and did not have any kind of sauce on it. There was a little bit of sauce on the onions, which looked and tasted like plain tomato sauce. The dish was under-seasoned overall and really lacked the complexity of flavor that I appreciate so much in Indian cuisine. It was kind of them to include a complimentary a cup of dal soup, but I would have preferred a more flavorful main dish. read more

Guru India continues to be our favourite Indian Restaurant in the Cincinnati Tri-state area. Their restaurant is a little smaller than the last time we were here and their grocery section was gone which was unfortunate. Still the food was as good as ever as we started with our favourite Indian appetizer; the Paneer Pakora. It's a take on like fried cheese with some Indian flavour. It's amazing in every way and I can't recommend it highly enough. For my main course I got my Guru India go-to; the Lamb Vindaloo with max heat. Vindaloo is a tomato based sauce packed with flavour and since I ordered max heat there was plenty of heat. On the side I get an order of Naan to sop up those delicious sauces. The lamb is perfect, the sauce is perfect, the potatoes that are in the dish were perfect; it's just my perfect Indian dish. Chicken, veggie, lamb and some seafood options. All main dishes are listed as gluten free and some appetizers are too bc they're breaded in chickpea batter! Yay! If you're not that into spicy levels, I suggest ordering the "regular" level on the scale of 1-6 because "medium" made my eyes water and my nose run LOL. Its very good - the saag paneer has way less heavy cream then most of its competitors and I think they will actually make it spicy and maintain the flavor. Personally I give it a knock because it is definitely pricier then other competitors - two dishes at dinner price is 45$ without any naan. But honestly very good read more

To be honest I am not a fan of Indian food in general, in the other hand my wife LOVES it so this review comes more from her experience. She doesn't eat much spice so she orders the Tikka Masala (mild) and she was very happy with the heat level and the flavor as well. I ordered the Chicken and Vegetable Pakoras, both of them had a really good flavor, specially with the dark sauce they came with. The pakora seemed a little dense and the chicken a little tough but I'm not an expert on Indian food so maybe that's the way it's actually made. The Garlic Nan... Now that's worth the visit!!! it was exceptional, great taste, it still had some texture to it, it was perfect. We ordered from Doordash and the dessert was missing, don't know if it was a mistake from the restaurant or if the driver got hungry but besides that everything else was pretty good. read more

We came here for dinner on a Saturday evening, when we arrive around 5:30, there are already several tables there. And the place filled up pretty nice with time, not crowded, but certainly not empty. We ordered garlic nah, chicken Tikka, lamb and shrimp curry. I think the chicken tikka is the best, husband loves their lamb. I thought we are going to have things to pack up, but husband finished everything including the big pile of rice! I think he will get a food coma. This is definitely a place to come back! Sometimes you do have to wait a while to order but food usually comes out just 10 minutes or so after you get your order in. I am the kind of person who likes spicy but Indian spicy is a whole new level. Saag Paneer is one of my all time favorite dishes and, I must say, this one may have earned itself the top spot on my list! I ordered it mild and I'm glad I did because it still managed to open up my sinuses. I ordered delivery through the Yelp app and, per usual, it arrived even earlier than expected! The portion sizes are massive, which when combined with the quality makes the pricing more than fair. The nan was good, nothing extraordinary about it, but I also didn't opt for any of their specialty flavors. The Mango Lassi was much more rose watery than I anticipated when I ordered, I think I will opt for the Mango Milk Shake when I order next time. When you need enlightenment for your belly and soul Guru is the way, the truth, and the light! I've had Indian food from Chicago, New York, LA, to Malaysia. IMHO Guru is hands down the best flavor. I know it might be Americanized, but that is exactly what I want. I believe their cuisine is from Northern India so it has a different style than Southern India I'm told. Whatever it is, it completes me. It has a crack like ability to make you jones for it weekly. I'm a sucker for chicken tikka masala, but the saag paneer is fire as well. The real magic is the bhatura bread (fried naan). I typically go with a spice level 3 which has all the flavor, but if you want to crank it up, a 4 or 5 will have you spiritual. If you are on the Ohio side of the river, then Ambar India is just as good. I believe they have some sort of family connection or history (I can't confirm that for sure.) read more

The menu was very easy read and understand what I wanted to order. (Remember this was my first time eating Indian) The atmosphere was clean, comfortable, perfect lighting with music playing softly in the background. It wasn't too loud so it was easy to hold a conversation. The best part of the experience was our serve, Babu.
