My faith in humanity was restored a bit today. I dropped by Baba Indian on my way home from PetSmart and ordered Bartha Mushroom, Chicken Makhani and a salad. I was starving and hadn't eaten all day so I eagerly unpacked my food but the Makhani was missing. I know they meant to put it in there because I got 2 containers of rice so I called them. They asked if I could drive back but it was about 20 mins away so I asked if they could refund just the Makhani. After a short wait they said they would drive it to me! They even included some pakoras. My Bartha was amazing and my boyfriend said his Makhani was equally delicious. Not going to lie....this place is amazing!! Very authentic Indian food with a lot of options! If you are vegetarian there are a lot of things in the menu that you will love. Be careful with the spicy levels, let your waiter know that you want no spice or level 1 depending on how much you can handle. The service was amazing and extremely friendly. I have passed this place a few times just never had the chance to stop in for a meal, and absolutely regret not trying it sooner! Walking in the staff was very covid friendly but also so welcoming and helping me with the menu. My bf and I went on Friday night, were able to sit down right away. I've never really been to an Indian restaurant but I was blown away with the quality of the food and extensive menu. We had an amazing server, very quickly made entrees and overall a great feel. Their decorations were so cute and made it such a homey experience. I love spicy foods so I got the level 6 chicken and loved every bite. I also got an amazing margarita that paired perfectly with my meal. I highly recommend checking this place out.. never having Indian and loving it, definitely worth it. read more

On my lunch break right down the road from Baba India. Was craving Saag Paneer today. Saag meaning Spinach. Paneer is a delicious cheese that has a softer texture than tofu and it is truly scrumptious!! The staff and owners are always professional, clean and friendly. Due to the pandemic I was concerned that they wouldn't be open but I wore my mask in and ordered and sat and waited about 8-9 min. They were wearing masks and shields. I felt very comfortable. I absolutely love their rice! When I told Siri to take me to Baba Indian restaurant on Madison Ave. Cincinnati it WOULD NOT (after 3 times of trying) take me to Baba. We were excited to eat here as we had heard good things but it was horrible! First, we ordered the Bombay drink which was one of their specialties..... It was nothing like the picture on their website...it came looking like a glass of water, no ice and bad aftertaste. We mentioned it to our server and showed him the picture on the website and he said, "oh that is the mango margarita" even though it said Bombay whatever. He said the pics on the website were wrong!!! The food we ordered was inedible, it tasted horrible( literally like vomit); we have eaten at many Indian restaurants and even make some Indian dishes, so it was not that we weren't familiar with Indian food. The only food we ordered that was edible was the saag paneer, basmati rice and naan. We will NEVER return!!! read more

I've heard great things about Baba India from friends and coworkers, but haven't had the chance to try it until last night.. and I'm sure glad I did! Given the current circumstances, we were not able to eat in and had to get carry out. At 6pm on a Saturday evening, it took about 40 minutes for our order to be ready. When picking up our order, the staff was very friendly and made sure we had a quick interaction. They offer a spice level from 1-6. I got a 4 on my tikka masala, and it had the perfect amount of kick! Baba also gives generous portions and I was able to have some left overs for lunch! read more

What a hidden gem in Oakley! Came here on a Saturday night and the place was not packed (a happy surprise as this meant no wait!) The 4 of us were seated at a nice booth in the back and service was IMPECCABLE. The staff was continually coming over, answering questions, filling water glasses, etc. - really something you don't find at many other places these days. As a table we got the Appetizer Mixed Platter which included a sampling of appetizers including chicken pakora and paneer pakora. We also got a Saag Paneer for the table to split as an appetizer. For meals two of us got the Baba India Special (~$19) which included A LOT of food - aloo tikki and pakora, chicken tandoori, lamb curry, dal, mater paneer, nan, rice, and dessert served on a silver platter. All of it extremely delicious and it was great I was able to try a few things that I had not before! IMPORTANT: The meat to rice/sauce ratio here was GREAT. At some Indian restaurants I've found the meals to be very heavy in sauce and rice and light on the meat - the ratio of meat to sauce/rice here was PERFECT. Not too much rice and enough sauce left for dipping nan in. And besides regular nan we ordered two sides of Gallic nan which were delicious alone and when dipped in all the different sauces we had. Left here super full, pleased, and without a hole burned in my pocket. Definitely recommend to any Indian food lovers out there that they give this place a try! I had lunch here yesterday with my cousin. It was my first visit and I may try it again sometime for dinner. I would not return for the lunch buffet. I'm a big fan of Indian and Pakistani food but this place missed the mark. The buffet food was all lukewarm. Some of it wasn't warm at all. It was also so mildly spiced that I felt it was fairly bland. I've never had bland Indian/Pakistani food, until yesterday. Also, my cousin and I hadn't visited in awhile so we sat and talked after our meal. The restaurant was empty, except for one other booth. Also, it was before the 2:30 p.m. closing. Yet, the workers stood across the room and stared at us for so long that we decided to leave. It wasn't terrible food, just mediocre. I got the lamb curry and while it tasted great, there was barely any lamb included in the dish. Would recommend New Shaan over Baba. Not great, not bad. Went there at the request of my daughter who's been out of the country for a bit and wanted some Indian food. She and her sister just googled Indian food and this was one of the closer restaurants that served wine, so Baba India fit the bill. I thought they used yelp, only later did I realize that it's at the bottom of Yelp reviews when searching Indian restaurants in Cincinnati. The restaurant looks clean located in a building with 70's or 80's architecture. They greeted us from the bar and pointed to where they wanted us to sit. A woman soon brought over menus and poured us some water, but didn't speak to us. The waiter came over a few minutes after being seated and took our dinner and drink orders, and our interaction with him was quite weird. He approached us with a smile, but as he went around the table getting orders he seemed to be getting annoyed that by the time he left, he had a scowl on his face. Lol. I thought I was imagining it, but when I looked at my family, they confirmed that it actually happened. We sat there confused as to why he was upset. Did we order too much or too little? Did we offend him by pointing to the menu? We don't know. Of course it could be that we misread his facial expressions and physical gestures. The other staff, who brought us our drinks or cleared our table didn't speak to us either. Just a little weird. We started with the samosas and some papadum. First time I've had to pay for papadum. The samosa was perfectly fried but the beef filling was very dry. Still with the dipping sauces, it was good. Maybe I don't know what vindaloo is suppose to taste like, but it was very sweet, almost like store bought marinara. At most other Indian restaurants, the vindaloo is more savory with a small hint of sweet. The other dishes ordered where the chicken korma and chicken tiki masala, and my family thought that it was good though admitted that it tasted the same as any other Indian restaurant. Went here for Saturday lunch. They have several great lunch offerings for $13-14 and I recommend! Two are vegetarian and 2 are chicken. All come with salad, rice, 3 different selections, several pieces of warm naan, and a dessert. While I miss the days of the buffets at my favorite Indian spots, I still encourage you to try this! There was so much really good food I could not eat it all. All was good! We get spice level 3 which is very mild. Everyone wore masks and seating at every other table. The food at Baba India is very good, however the people who work there are not friendly at all. We live very close to the restaurant and the aroma would drag us in there at least once a week, but we stopped going because the staff was colder than the lassis they served. At first I thought it was just a cultural thing and tried to overlook it, but after we ate at the Indian restaurant in Hyde Park Plaza I realized I was wrong. The owners and staff there are amazing. I've dined in Baba India Restaurant years back with my husband and sister in law. Back then the food was delicious. My second time returning with a friend, Brandy V. The restaurant has not changed one bit. The building is old, however they keep it clean. We had dinner on a Thursday night and was seated right away. It was pretty busy. Our server was very friendly. He took our drink orders (was very quick with bringing it to us) right away. A couple minutes later we ordered dinner. I got Matter Paneer- which is fresh mild cheese gently cooked with tender green peas and spices and my friend Brandy got the Chicken Jalfrezi - which is tender chicken cooked with green peppers, tomatoes and onions. We also got a side order of the Naan Bread. We got our meals REALLY quick!! The food was really delicious! My Matter Peener had a great spicy kick (spice level 4), Basmati rice and Naan bread was fresh and warm. My only complaint is that they did not put enough mild cheese in my bowl. My friend also enjoyed her meal. Our server did check back with us and also made sure our waters were refilled. Overall, this was a great dining experience. They are very consistent with their meals. Am I wrong, or has Baba been slipping just a bit? When we first moved to Cincy three years ago, this was our Indian restaurant of choice, especially for the buffet on weekends. The buffet had a delicious selection of both veggie and meat dishes, featuring a broad palette of bold flavors, and Baba seemed to rotate dishes regularly. Even on the buffet, the tandoori chicken was really tasty, even better than what you'd get if you ordered it a la carte in most restaurants. In our last few visits, though, the buffet has started to feel a little tired. The same limited veggie selections--never more than two or three at a time--seem to appear over and over, and the multiple meat dishes taste to me like minor variations of the same butter-chicken recipe. The tandoori chicken is still great, though. The food is still pretty good, but not very exciting. Maybe it's just the bloom coming off the rose. Oddly enough, I don't think the food in the evenings is appreciably better than what you get from the buffet at lunchtime. Service has never been a strong point at Baba. Although a couple of the servers have been friendly and attentive during our many visits, too many others are oafish and/or brusque. Baba is housed in some kind of former fast-food restaurant, but I really like what the owners did with the place. It's a comfortable, pleasantly-lit, and relatively attractive restaurant, featuring a lot of booth seating and big windows. Baba gets a more diverse and interesting crowd than most East Side restaurants. FWIW, Baba is part of the family of Cinci Indian restaurants that includes Ambar in Clifton, Akash downtown, and one or two others. read more

Meh, it's the closest Indian restaurant to my house so I have went a few times since moving to Oakley. I have had WAY better Indian food. I usually get butter chicken with rice. The service was good with this restaurant run by local family. Some speak English well, others don't. I would probably not bring family or friends here because I prefer Indian Spice Train on Cin-day road. Way better food and options. I would pass on this place. read more

I took my children this afternoon for lunch. The place is scary from the outside. The inside lacks the ambiance of a nice Indian restaurant in major cities in the US. I ordered a vegetarian appetizer, the lamb korma, the chicken tikka masala and some garlic naan. There is no distinction between the lunch menu and a dinner menu now. Everything we ordered was at dinner pricing. I did reach out to the owner who threatened to send a message to my employer. The first time I ordered takeout from Baba India was during the pandemic in 2020. I called in to place an order and made the payment via the phone. The restaurant provides no contact pick up and had prepared orders placed in the section with the first letter of your last name (the restaurant was not offering dine in at that time). DLW found this spot recently, and sampled the lunch buffet. She is a big fan of Indian buffets for lunch. She liked this one as well, but found the somewhat grouchy signage a little amusing, like the one warning people not to take all of the tandoori chicken and try the other items. Stupid Americans and their aversion for vegetables! We checked it out for a Saturday dinner. Buffet only operates at lunch, but we were planning to order from the kitchen anyway. The space is fairly generic, apparently a former Denny's or some such casual eatery, but everything is clean and neat, with white tablecloths under glass tops. A full bar is available as well. We ordered up a mixed appetizer platter with all kinds of fried goodies. Vegetable pakora is a must have, as is the cilantro mint chutney. A hot pickle chutney is also available, and is quite punchy. We had an order of chicken tikka masala and an eggplant and mushroom dish, both medium spicy, and paneer naan. The spice level was comfortable but sneakily built up during the meal, and everything was pretty darn good. Portions were decent, but not huge, and we left with plenty in doggie bags. We definitely need to come back to try other things. And eat your vegetables, people, they're delicious! read more

Baba is my go to restaurant for Indian food and any time I need a really good meal. My favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala and Fish Masala although I just discovered Saag Kofta which is delicious. They use salmon for fish dishes and I have yet to find a better Indian masala sauce anywhere. Service is reliably good. It has the feel of a family-run restaurant and the family members have their own personalities. The food is always the focus and is reliably tasty whether it is Tandoori, vegetarian, lamb, naan or anything else. read more

This place was recommended by a local friend when I inquired about an Indian restaurant near my hotel. I tried to order ahead of time but their website doesn't seem Safari-compatible so I could not read the menu on my iphone. I parked and went in. Despite their multiple signs requesting mask wearing of patrons, out of the three folks working the counter, one had mask covering mouth only and another had it under the chin. There were no other customers in the place. When I was ready to place my order and pay, I asked if everyone could mask up before I approached the counter, and the woman who had only worn it covering her mouth exchanged some words (in a language I do not speak) with her colleague that suggested she was displeased with my request. I waited in my car. When i picked up the order fifteen minutes later they didn't thank me as I left. The takeout order did not include any utensils or napkins and they did not ask if I needed any. Nor do they offer any sauces with entrees, only with appetizers oddly, which I didn't order. The food itself is very meh and even has an aftertaste that suggests old oil may have made its way into the dish. Would not recommend. read more

Enjoyed a great dinner with friends last night at Baba for New Years Eve. The entire staff was very attentive to our table of 6 with drinks, water refills and our order. The food came very quickly minutes after we ordered. I enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Saag level 4, it definitely had a kick to it, spicy food on a cold winter night! The rest of the table enjoyed Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry, Fish Bhuna and Saag Paneer. After we were done, the staff split up the check individually and did not add an automatic gratuity for our group. I tipped 20%. I need to enjoy Baba more its right in my neighborhood and after this visit can't wait to come back soon. read more

This past Friday night my wife and I decided to try Baba India, which we have driven past many times. The restaurant sits in a former fast food space as you can easily tell by the covered up drive thru window on one side of the building. It is actually a pretty large space inside with plenty of seating around a central buffet area. Unfortunately the buffet is only offered during lunch, as is typical with Indian restaurants. There is also a small patio outside, which I have never actually seen in use. Maybe that will change with the warming weather. My wife, fifteen month old son, and I were given our choice of tables upon entry. Immediately we were served glasses of water while we looked over the menu. After about five minutes time our server stopped by to take our order. Dining with a young child can be adventurous so we quickly placed our drink and dinner orders. As I was trying to observe the no meat on Friday during lent rule, I went with the Aloo Choley - chick peas and potatoes prepared North Indian style. This was my first experience with Aloo Choley, as I typically order a chicken based dish when eating Indian food, but I must say that it was pretty tasty. I ordered a 5 on the 1-6 spice scale, which turned out to be really hot. I was still able to eat the entire dish, but I wondered if I would have preferred the level 4. Along with the large bowl of shared rice, it was definitely a full meal. I'm not sure I would order it again, as I've had other Indian dishes that I like better, but it was a good substitute for my meatless day. My wife went with the Chicken Tikka Saag - boneless marinated chicken cooked with spinach, cream and tomato sauce. I only had small bites of the spinach and sauce, but from what I could tell this dish was excellent! My wife definitely enjoyed it as well, though the level 3 on the spice scale came out spicier than she had anticipated. It was too spicy for our young son, who actually enjoys some spice in his food. We also split a side of garlic nan, which was so large half of it was hanging off of the plate. It was easily more than enough for two to split and the flavor was very good. Our only other Indian experience in Cincinnati has been at Shaan, and I think these two restaurants are very close. I do recall being a little more excited about the food at Shaan, but that could have easily been true had I ordered something different at Baba India. It is definitely worth another visit for me to find out. read more

We came here on a Sunday for Baba's lunch buffet, which is $10 per person. The selection is decent, with a combination of different chicken dishes as the main protein. On food alone, Baba deserves a solid 3 to 4 stars. However, we spotted hair in our food on two separate occasions. They had their kitchen staff make trips out to the buffet line to get food, and none of them wore hair nets. Given the wealth of options in Indian dining around the Greater Cincinnati area, we probably will not be going back to Baba's any time soon. read more
