A word of caution, even if you wear water shoes, the rocks can be slippery. I took a spill going over a log. The water was deeper than I thought on the other side. It was a soggy drive home, but refreshing.

This location is my second go to Hangar 18 gym. Located near downtown Upland, you maneuver through…read morethe industrial area in order to find the gym itself. Parking is not the best especially during peak hours; I find myself parking inside the residential areas just to come to gym. They have auto belay, a top out area, and a very large bouldering section. They don't have a super long slab wall, but they do have a wide variety of problems and types of boulder holds. As an avid v4 climber, I think the routes here a fairly easy for my grade, yet the problems are very fun in itself. The interior is very clean and the workers are diligently checking the gym, restocking, and cleaning restrooms. They have merchandise for purchase, too. On very busy days, the students from the colleges are here to climb. I'd avoid climbing in weekdays after 3 PM if you want more time on the wall without competition. Other than that, it is a nice gym with nice workers.

Walked in after work to do some bouldering while traffic simmered down, and to sus things out for my fiance who also climbs. Small but looked like people were having fun! I was met with SO much hostility from the front desk, thought I was hallucinating. Did their waivers and training video as expected, worker had left us to our own devices entirely. Huge line at the front, I'd been there at least 45 minutes at that point. Then I saw this adorable microscopic font sign, super endearing You could have just told me you don't take walk-ins, instead of being brazenly rude. When clearly that policy isn't even enforced. Other patrons who also walked in didn't receive quite as much vitriol. I was told I'd have to test out, no biggie, but nobody else was told this. Nobody else was asked "do you climb?" with a whole lot of attitude. Yeah I climb, and I enjoy walking in here looking like a corporate loser about as much as you enjoy seeing it. Just wanted to change into jeans and a t-shirt and boulder a bit. Might go to some other hangar 18 location someday, but won't be enthused about it. Not a lot of options around. Saw the sign and left because they hadn't asked me to pay yet, and I'm not paying for that attitude. I can only assume she was giving me attitude because I walked in looking all corporate, which is ironic to me because this is the most corporate looking rock gym I've ever seen. Y'all can keep it.

They offer both top-rope climbing and bouldering, and both require an orientation--which I appreciated as a first-timer. I was surprised by how many people were bouldering, from novices to very experienced climbers. There's also a small gym with basic equipment. Overall, it was a fun, spontaneous activity for a random free day--kind of like bowling, but more physical and engaging. Definitely requires some strength and problem-solving. Would absolutely come back!

Within the City of Walnut are 30 miles of trails. I have ran or walked probably less than five…read moremiles of these trails. The two areas that I frequent most are the trails around the Snow Creek neighborhood, and the trails near the intersection of Meadowpass Road and Pierre Road. The trails are diverse, depending on which trail you go on. The trails near Snow Creek goes around Snow Creek Park and winds through the Snow Creek neighborhood. One trails goes from Snow Creek Park all the way to the back entrance to Mt. SAC. Elite runners practice on these trails, especially the weeks prior to the Mt. SAC Relays. Lot's of walkers use this trail in the morning. One of my favorite trails when I walk/run with my daughter is near the intersection of Pierre Road and Meadowpass Road. If you come here at the right time, you will see people riding their horses on the trails. One of the trails in this neighborhood leads to the Brookside Equestrian Center where Olympians have trained. They let you walk/hike around the Equestrian Center. Over in this area, you will see Istik Bridge. A bridge in the middle of nowhere. It is so peaceful around here, you wouldn't know you were lost in the middle of Walnut. There are still 25 miles of trails in and around my city that I have not set foot on yet. If running is not your thing, you can take a hike! There are trails for you to go up the hill to get to the Schabarum Trail. Then there are the trails around the Creekside Park. I've heard that these trails are also great for running. Rest areas with picnic tables are available at the hiking areas for you to rest. Refer to the cities website to find out where they are. Make sure you bring the trail map on their website. They have lots of trails. Some of the trails are dead ends, where you will end up in someone's backyard. I went to the Diamond Bar Loop after work with a few friends for Earth Day, and it's the perfect…read moretrail for a beginner runner like me. *The Difficulty: We did the shortest trail which is a 1.5-mile loop that took us about 45 minutes of mixed light jogging and walking. It was very manageable and peaceful. Difficulty-wise, I'd call this a 1.5/5 or 2/5, great for families and casual walkers. As someone who doesn't normally run (and gets bored of a stationary, treadmill view), I felt challenged in a good way. Jogging this had my heart pumping without feeling like I was dying. My friend who hikes Mt. Baldy for fun was with us, and he actually uses this trail as part of his cardio, so it's also great for more seasoned trailgoers looking for something chill! *The Trail: The trailhead is very well maintained, no trash in sight. We saw a few locals and families walking and everyone was friendly. It never felt crowded though we did go on a Tuesday evening. Dogs are welcome as long as they're leashed. The views overlooking the city are nice and there's two small bridges, a few stair sections, and several scenic spots near the top for quick breaks or photos. If you want more distance, there are connecting paths to explore too. There's also shaded areas near the beginning and end. *Parking and Bathrooms: There's plenty of free parking which is always a plus. We didn't go inside this time, but a friend mentioned the bathrooms inside the Diamond Bar Cultural Center are clean. The center itself is beautiful from the outside and there's even a gazebo near the left-hand lot where a family was having a picnic. Whether you're a new runner, walking your dog, out with the family, or on a cute date, this local trail is a great and easygoing way to enjoy nature!

Colby Trail is a 2.5-mile loop trail near Glendora, California. It's considered a moderate to…read moredifficult challenging route, it took me 2.5 hrs (excluding taking breaks to take photos) roundtrip to complete. CT is a popular trail for birding, hiking, bikers and dog walkers. The trail's main base entrance is at N. Loraine ave in a posh cul-de-sac residential area. This trail is not for novice hikers! As an experience hiker myself, my heart rate went 130 bpm as I hiked those steep inclines. Furthermore, you'll find abundant wild flowers, trees and Mountain Lion growling or hissing at the bushes. The Colby Trail has very limited tree shades and very steady elevation gain incline. It is has two parts, a lower and upper trails which was divided by the main Glendora Mountain road. This trail has four very steep inclines to get to the Summit of CT. Summit has a peak of ~1,580 ft with mind-blowing views. Parking was super easy. Cell signal was spotty as you ascend the trail. Hikers and their dogs were friendly. Overall, I liked hiking Colby trail and recommend it.
