On a Sunday morning, we came here to hike and the trail was named correctly. There are steep parts of the trail but it's not steep for very long. Views were great even in heavy fog and there were quite a few people on the trail. There is free and safe parking and a free little library at a nearby home. We discovered another hiking route (outer route) connected to the Diamond Bar Center. It's called Steep Canyon Trailhead. We used to hike the Summitridge Park Trail (I called it the inner route), but that route was too short to the Diamond Bar Center (about 1.6 miles total) and did not have much incline. So we first hiked the Summitridge Park Trail, then we looped back down and then hiked up the Steep Canyon Trailhead, so it gave us about 2.7 miles total (with 660 feet elevation). The weather was so nice this early morning (about 60F), but it was a little slippery and muddy on some parts after the rain. The view of the snow-capped mountains was so beautiful. This Steep Canyon route has some steeper parts than the inner route, but it's not steep for long. It's a dog-friendly trail, but be careful on some parts, as they are a bit steep and slippery after the rain, so it's recommended to bring hiking sticks if you have them. Overall, we liked the outer route Steep Canyon Trailhead, more than the inner route (Summitridge Park trail) because it gave us a little more exercise. read more

It's a very nice short trail. It has two steep hills at the beginning and the rest it's very easy. A lot of snake activity and some parts have overgrown bushes and very narrow path which can be concerning because of the presence of rattlesnakes, so be careful! read more

One of my favorite trails. I discovered this one while I was riding my bike up grand and went to the diamond bar center. When I saw the view, I noticed there was a trial. Noted. Went home, looked it up on google and had to come check it out. This is a short trial, a little over two miles of done in a circular loop going to the diamond bar center then back down. Nice steep climb. But only 500 ft elevation. If you're a boss like me, do it twice lol Any way, the views here are amazing. All the cool stuff you'll find on any trail. No dangerous wildlife spotted so far in the many trips I've taken here. Just come prepared. I got a chance to see three deer on this last trip. Highly recommended. Be safe read more

Did a solo hike here on the weekend and there was a good amount of people. A couple of different routes but they aren't marked very well. If you stay in the outside track, I believe that is supposed to be about 3 miles while the marked inner track is about 1.5 miles. I did that one since it was my first time. Plan on returning and doing the 3 mile one. A pretty standard trail. read more

Holy steep! Stopped by this steep trail before picking up breakfast in the area and I couldn't believe how tough it was. Hike safely and wear good shoes. Brought my pup with me and he seems to be having a lot of fun walking up and down the stairs and road while I try to balance along with him by myself . We did witnessed a deer! That was pretty neat. If I had more time, I would have explored more. Can't wait to come back! Parking : can park by the entrance. What a fantastic hike this was! I'm surprised I only recently discovered it seeing that I live 10 min away. Steep Canyon Trail has everything you would want in a hike... varying terrains, beautiful views, and a decent trail time. From start to finish, it's 1.6M loop so some like to do it 3x for a challenge. (I haven't myself haha) Dog friendly. Great hike if you want a booty burn. Can get steep in some areas so be careful. Visited Steep Canyon Trailhead this past Saturday and really enjoyed the hike! Parked in a residential area off Steep Canyon Road; there was still ample amount of parking when arriving at 9am. The start of the trail begins with stairs which already had me catching my breath a little. Once you reach the top, there are two paths.. straight heading up a steep dirt path or the right path that is a little more flat. Seeing as this was my first time hiking in months and the first time on this trail, I decided to go toward the trail on the right. There were small declines and inclines that led to the Diamond Bar Center but none that were treacherous. Round trip was roughly 2.5 miles and took us about an hour. 300 calorie burn and not mad about it! Lots of lizards on the trail - be careful not to step on any! read more

Great place to hike and enjoy the sun! It is a pretty view and a great workout with all the hills. Depending on which route you go. The hike can be between 2.25 mile to 3.5 miles. There are a few people that let their dogs roam freely, which makes me comfortable letting my dogs roam around. The good thing is, the owners are mindful and when they see another dog from afar, they always call their dogs and leash them as we are walking by! read more

I did see some dogs on the trail. Be sure to wear hiking shoes!! I saw someone slip today on the trail. Wear a hat because there is little shade. Wear plenty of sunscreen. Steep but Fun and Healthy !! First time and will come for more specially at sunset time I bet the view would be beautiful . Parking was very easy just find empty spot near residences, this trail also a dog friendly. It was very steep at same areas, so be careful. Make sure you wear a good grip shoes ! I listened to lots of bird chirping and saw some squirrels along the way walking . Recommended this trail even for beginner ! Eventhough it's going to be very steep but still doable . So I really wanted to give this trail a zero but not because it was horrible but because I felt like I wanted to die!!! If you are a beginner, wait awhile to try this trail out. It begins with stairs and then it's all the way up. The hills are pretty steep and they seem to keep going and going and going and going. There were some other people on the trail that doubled up but there was no way I would be able to. The views are amazing once you get to the top but you can see the smog. Careful with the red ants and snakes, they are frequent visitors at this location. All in all, if you are looking to get in a good sweat or trying to just be active (so you can attend every single Yelp event), check this place out. It won't disappoint you. This is a nice trail in the heart of Diamond Bar. It actually starts at a cul de sac in a residential street. Its initially some crazy stairs then a 1.6 mile loop on unpaved hilly roads. Theres not too much foot traffic here and theres plenty of parking on the surrounding streets. The stairs are a good work out for people trying to do stair training. Its crazy how you just have to go s few feet and all of a sudden your in a serene area with birds and wild life around you (even some rattlesnakes). Overall its a short traul to knock out in less then an hour, but with the grade it makes it a good leg work out. Definitely a nice trail to do for those living around diamond bar. read more

Hooray for solo adventures! I decided to check out this trail alone. I know it's called Steep Canyon Trail head but i literally had to cheer myself on because I was alone and didn't want to slide down the hills. It's very steep. You can park at the end of the cul de sac street. Wednesday's from 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m is street sweeping! This trail has gorgeous views of the surrounding cities. It does get breezy on top of the hill though. read more

Easy trail that has great incline and lots of steep hills. It's a very small trail, I believe 1.5 miles done in a loop but if you do it twice, you definitely get in a great workout. I think it's family friendly and great for dogs, however, I've seen many hikers not pick up after their pets and it's something to keep an eye out on the trail: lots of fresh or dried poo. I would also recommend good hiking shoes as there are some areas that are a bit rocky, and other areas where the dirt is very slippery. My Nikes aren't the best shoes for this trail and thankfully I have not slipped and fallen yet but have come come close to slipping a few times. Plenty of parking available considering it is located within a residential area. read more

We stumbled upon the trailhead while we were playing pokemon. We thought it was going to be an easy neighborhood stroll as the trailhead is tucked away in the back of a neighborhood and was only 1.6 miles. We went around sunset and it was beautiful. There was nice breeze and one minute you are in a housing track and the next you are in nature. I really liked this trail for that reason. Its great but not the leisurely stroll i was expecting. I would recommend you wear shoes with some grip because it's steep (as name implies lol) and pretty slippery at many places. Its a short hike but wonderful if you live closeby. We also saw a rattlesnake just hanging out on the trail so be careful. read more

Good alternative to Eagle Scout trail. It's a bit longer, and there are parts of the trail that are really steep. Wide enough trails, not super crowded and on clear days, you can see LA. Perfect little hike when you need something short and simple. We had driven to the area to run an errand and it's a bit of a drive so I figured why not look up somewhere to get some steps in. Steep Canyon came up and I was looking for some hills. While it's not terribly steep in any area, it's the perfect little loop hike to get outdoors, get some steps in and enjoy some fresh air. We'd had rain earlier in the week, so the mountains were snow capped which is always picturesque. We were in and out within an hour and this includes taking time to stop at several benches and read the signs they had posted. We did spot 4 deer while out and luckily no rattlesnakes, since those guys always freak me out. Tons of cacti out here and a majority of this loop is level with a couple spots of incline. This isn't a strenuous hike by any stretch of the imagination so I'd recommenced it for all levels including children. Street parking right beneath the stairs entrance. read more

The Steep Canyon Trail is a nice trail located in Diamond Bar. There are several trailheads (starting points) where you can park and get onto the trail. I normally start by the Diamond Bar Center and start my hike. I've seen all levels of hikers out on the trails. Parts of the trail are very steep, but, even the elderly and children can do it. The trails are maintained by the city of Diamond Bar. There are benches along the trail for you to sit and rest. There are great views along the way. The hills, they provide for a great heart pounding workout. If you do the entire loop, it is about 3 miles. Make sure you say "Hi" to the other people on the trail! read more

The Steep Canyon Trail is a fairly easy hike to do. I'd rate the trail as a beginner to moderate level hiking trail. I frequently hike this trail with my 4 & 5 year old toddlers and they love it! It's not stroller friendly as there are many stairs/steps throughout the trail. I believe it's about a maximum 35 degree incline on its steepest slopes. The views are amazing! Throughout the hike, you'll find a few benches and a few gazebos to sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful views Diamond Bar has to offer. I've never seen this trail crowded which is a huge plus to me. Lots of seniors walk this trail and you'll find a few runners that run laps through the trail. I found this trail to be very peaceful. This trail also connects to the Diamond Bar Center. Cons: majority of the trail is open with minimal shade (only two minimal areas of the trail are shaded) . Snakes and spiders are habitants of the area. Occasionally in the summer months, the smog can linger in the area. There have been lots of reports of vehicles being broken into if you park on Steep Canyon Rd / Clear Creek Canyon Dr. Always secure your valuables and don't leave anything in plain sight. read more

The trail is 1-3 miles Long depending which routes you take. There's map showing the different directions you can take. You can cut across or go all the way around. It's a loop and you can take different paths which is great because you can choose which inclines do take. When you first arrive there is stairs you take up and from there or splits. We went to the right, it split three more times after that. The trail is a decent work out. You can make it harder by choosing the steep hills to go up. Careful going down because it does get slippery'!! I almost fell four different times. Over the trail has some good views and has its shady moments. read more

It a cute little quick steep trail, gave it 4 stars because it was too short, you have to do it at least 3 times to get your workout in. On the pictures the hills might looks huge but once your doing them it actually doesn't feel that intense. This is a perfect place to practice running on hills!! AWESOME LITTLE TRAIL AND STEEP STAIRS! Went today with my 21 year old daughter and this place gave us quite the workout. I'm all about the scenery and view, too. Now...the disclaimer...FEMALES! Besides my daughter and I, there was another female jogger up there. She was about 5 minutes ahead of us and we kept running past each other. As time went on, we noticed 3 males had arrived who were very sketchy. We're talking men in oversized jeans and dickies, wearing Vans, one in particular wearing a construction type vest. This guy in the vest and oversized work slacks was "jogging", which we thought was strange. We passed him twice in the loop and we noticed him on a phone. Well, the other two men just walked maybe once around and waited at the bottom of the stairs. They both were on cell phones and just seemed weird. The female jogger comes around the loop and stops my daughter and me. She said she's a regular there and seen 3 men she's never seen before, and they're all on phones with each other. She said to watch our backs because they have the mannerisms of those who are into sex trafficking. Unsure of that, but she just wanted us to keep our eyes open. She ended up leaving and the men eyeballed her, so I started to take pics, just in case. Sure enough, my daughter and I were going to head for another loop around, when the construction guy passed us. He slows down and passes us, and meets up with the two other guys. The construction guy takes off to "run" again, and the guys start to walk towards my daughter and me (up the stairs). They see us stopped and taking pics of them, so they stopped and headed the other way. My daughter and I get up to the parking lot and there are zero cars. And, no construction vehicle. So yeah. Maybe we were a little paranoid, they could have just been people that like to jog in heavy jeans and Vans? But, take no chances! Do not go alone, especially if you're a female read more

This hike is loop and great workout without shade. Great view of city of Diamond Bar. I started the hike at 1 pm. Luckily me, isn't hot and its had nice breeze at top. Hike Loop - Steep Canyon Trail / Ridge Route Trail / Diamond Bar Center / Ridge Route Trail / Canyon Route Trail / Steep Canyon Trail. Steep Canyon Trail is short with a lot of steps stair . Ridge Route Trail start end of stair. Trail is steep. Diamond Bar Center with beautiful small landscape. Trail need go in and out back to Ridge Route Trail Canyon Route Trail. Which Is also steep trail.. There is short cut back to Steep Canyon trail where the sign "Area Closed Beyond This Point" Trail with Arrow. But is kind of short and steep I finished this 1 1/2 hrs w/ break for taking pics. Since, I hike a lot the incline doesn't bother me. I had learned to look down instead of up, this way I cant see how steep it is. For beginners, make sure you stretch out before start.. You dont want get your legs cramp.. Also, a set walking poles help with incline and downhills. And tts help on your knees. Don't forget hat, sunblock and water..there is no bathroom on the trail. I love this trail! When i first tried it out I was assuming this would be a nice & easy beginners trail but ooohhh it definitely challenged me and my calves lol! We usually do the big loop around and start with the trail on the right which is longer because if not, ur starting straight off with 2 kinda steep walk ups that lead to the view points which in my case feel better to see at the end of the loop; that satisfaction feeling of finishing feels good lol. There's also benches at the top 2 view points which are a plus! Anyways, great views and friendly hikers. The sunset is amazing here. Definitely recommend. read more

Hiking trails connected to the Diamond Bar Center and neighborhoods. This is a go-to spot whenever I'm looking to get a solid heart-thumping workout without driving far. There's free parking in the neighborhood (on the aptly named Steep Canyon Road) if you want to start off with a steep ascent, or you could park at the Diamond Bar Center to start off with a descent. The trail is very exposed and there's very little shade. Dogs are allowed on leashes, although note that there are rattlesnakes so be careful. There's plenty of benches for you to sit and take in the view. They're open during coronavirus and masks are required. There's no bathrooms or water fountains on the trail. The trail itself is wide and made of packed dirt; you could wear hiking boots or sneakers - neither would be amiss. Overall this is a free and close way to get some steps in and take in some fresh air - that's always five stars in my book! read more

Beautiful trail located within Diamond Bar. It takes you to the secluded mountains with great view points and connects several neighborhoods so there are multiple access and exit points. It is a easy hike and would recommend for a stroll or a jog. One day I was running and I almost stepped on a rattlesnake. Great hiking trail literally in SGV's backyard (no, but seriously - it's behind houses in the Diamond Bar neighborhood). I came here with a friend on a Sunday afternoon. To our surprise, the hiking trail was relatively empty. Parking was a breeze as well! We were able to park right next to the staircase entrance - score! I've been told that this trailhead does have rattlesnakes, which scared me a bit. But, I wanted to brace myself and just go for the hike! As other reviews had mentioned, the staircase is only a quick 3-5 minute portion of the rest of the trail. The rest is just dirt/grassy areas with huge inclines. We were a bit skeptical of the hike as there really was no one around us, but we just kept walking. We went through a full circle and ended up on the top of the trailhead, which had some magnificent views of the city and freeways. With a brisk walk, we were able to complete the short tail of the hike and back to our car within an hour, AND luckily, we didn't see any snakes! read more

Nice clean trail. Didn't get a chance to walk the full canyon trail but wherever we walked, it was clean. Not crowded. But then again, we came here on a wed morning. We saw a few ppl but not many. There wasn't much to see... it was much more lush than the trail in Chino Hills tho. We did see a front end of an old abandoned mint green vehicle. Pretty random, wondered how it got there and why it was there... but it was pretty with nature growing in and around it. Other than that, the trail we walked up wasn't anything exciting. The incline on some of the paths were a bit of a hike (because I'm not iron man) but it was worth it. What I did like was that this trail is in a beautiful residential area atop the hills of DB and it definitely felt safe. No graffiti no trash no weirdos. read more
