This hiking trail is behind my house so I walk through it quite often. You get a really nice view…read moreof the city (West Covina, hahah). On a good day, you can see as far as Downtown LA! The trail is a little sandy so I'd recommend not using clean shoes. It's quiet which is great, but if you come early after a weekend it gets a little dirty (people are always trying to meet up with their friends at the top of the hill, PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES). The walk isn't too intense, if you're walking Pokémon you can hatch 2-2km eggs (haha). There's also a few dog posts where you can pick up plastic bags, so dog owners- please pick up after your dog! I've seen so many "left overs" on the trail and it really ruins the walk. During the spring time, the walk is gorgeous. Every season I've walked through, I see different types of flowers blooming. PS- it's not a good photo shoot area since you'll be falling into the bushes. There's a huge rest area where you can sit on the benches if you're tired. Overall a great walk to see the city and pretty flowers.

We used to hike the Summitridge Park Trail (I called it the inner route), but that route was too short to the Diamond Bar Center (about 1.6 miles total) and did not have much incline. So we first hiked the Summitridge Park Trail, then we looped back down and then hiked up the Steep Canyon Trailhead, so it gave us about 2.7 miles total (with 660 feet elevation). The weather was so nice this early morning (about 60F), but it was a little slippery and muddy on some parts after the rain. The view of the snow-capped mountains was so beautiful. This Steep Canyon route has some steeper parts than the inner route, but it's not steep for long. It's a dog-friendly trail, but be careful on some parts, as they are a bit steep and slippery after the rain, so it's recommended to bring hiking sticks if you have them. Overall, we liked the outer route Steep Canyon Trailhead, more than the inner route (Summitridge Park trail) because it gave us a little more exercise.

It was very manageable and peaceful. Difficulty-wise, I'd call this a 1.5/5 or 2/5, great for families and casual walkers. As someone who doesn't normally run (and gets bored of a stationary, treadmill view), I felt challenged in a good way. Jogging this had my heart pumping without feeling like I was dying. My friend who hikes Mt. Baldy for fun was with us, and he actually uses this trail as part of his cardio, so it's also great for more seasoned trailgoers looking for something chill! *The Trail: The trailhead is very well maintained, no trash in sight. We saw a few locals and families walking and everyone was friendly. It never felt crowded though we did go on a Tuesday evening. Dogs are welcome as long as they're leashed. The views overlooking the city are nice and there's two small bridges, a few stair sections, and several scenic spots near the top for quick breaks or photos. If you want more distance, there are connecting paths to explore too. There's also shaded areas near the beginning and end. *Parking and Bathrooms: There's plenty of free parking which is always a plus. We didn't go inside this time, but a friend mentioned the bathrooms inside the Diamond Bar Cultural Center are clean. The center itself is beautiful from the outside and there's even a gazebo near the left-hand lot where a family was having a picnic. Whether you're a new runner, walking your dog, out with the family, or on a cute date, this local trail is a great and easygoing way to enjoy nature!

Sycamore Canyon is open from 9 AM to 6 PM in summer and 9 AM to 5 PM during the rest of the year. Just make sure to bring water, as there aren't any drinking fountains along the trail.
