Walnut Creek Park is a 2-acre staging area and a beautiful 4 mile trail. It's nestle along W.C. trail in San Dimas, CA. This hidden trail route is considered easy to moderate with an elevation gain of 625 feet. Moreover, this trial is good for dogs (unleashed), family, and kids. Plenty of tree shades and stream crossings. You'll see a thriving flora and fauna throughout the park. Similarly, you'll find yourself swinging in an old used tire and/or rope. I really dig it. Hikers were quite friendly and trail was not crowded. Parking can be found by Lyman Staging area and San Dimas avenue. Overall, I enjoyed visiting Walnut Creek Park. I highly recommend you visit. read more

I love and enjoy a great hiking trail. This trail is great for dogs as well as a jog, run or a walk. The creeks are also good as you have great opportunities to see the flowing water in the creeks. You have a good mix of flat and steep which allows for a good workout. read more

Visited this hiking trail in San Dimas with my wife, daughter, and some friends. It turned out to be a nice little spot for a hike. There was plenty of shaded parking, which was a plus, and everyone we met along the way was super friendly. Some hikers even gave us a heads-up about the possibility of mountain lions in the area. If you plan on hiking solo or with a toddler, be sure to have something to protect yourself, just in case, since mountain lions are known to stalk people. That said, hiking in a big group is generally safer, but it's still important to keep toddlers and young kids close. read more

Nice trail! It has multiple water streams. It has shades and beautiful plants. You will like to hike around the area during hot summer. You won't get sun burn because trees and bushes are creating a perfect trail with shades. read more

This place is a beautiful and peaceful place to hike! Took about an hour. There is also a parking lot to park your car. Went on a sunday, on a cloudy day and it made the hike that much better. So many trees with the sound of the creek is so relaxing. The fun part was walking / "crossing" the creek trying to balance on the rocks to not get our feet wet. This park is a hidden gem. There is a tree-lined walking path along a creek. The path requires zigging and zagging across the creek, which can be nearly 20 feet wide in some places, and is required every 300 yards or less. Rocks and logs are placed to cross the creek, but on the day we hiked, the water levels were high and nearly everyone had wet feet, even if they didn't slip in to the ankle or deeper water. We arrived two weeks after the hurricane caused rains, and heavy storms that happened just three days before our arrival. I'm sure crossing the creek is much easier when there hasn't been so much rain. The sound of the water flowing over rocks and logs blocks any sounds from the outside world. The majority of the paths we walked were more shaded than not. The diversity of trees was interesting: plan, eucalyptus, oak, and others. There were a lot of people: hikers, joggers, families, and dogs. If it weren't for needing to cross the creek so often, it would be more of a nice walk than a hike. read more

Walnut Creek Park is not in Walnut Creek. It is also not even in Walnut. It is on a muddy little road that eventually dumps you in front of a secluded Buddhist monastery and complex, hidden in the scrubby gullies of San Dimas. If you see the monastery, you have gone too far. The narrow drive is pretty once you break away from the housing developments, comfortably shady, and primitive and woodsy smelling. Happily, you will not be able to see the nearby civilization. The park is underdeveloped. It is really all about the unpaved trails and mature trees and a very unkempt look. A small creek cuts its way through the park, but on the day we were there in January 2017, there had been major rainfall and the trails were completely inaccessible and unuseable. Imagine that, after so many years of drought! It was a water sprite's holiday. There are a handful of picnic tables, and under ideal weather conditions, this would be a nice place to bring the family to have a picnic and romp-and-play day. read more

Parking was very easy to find on S. San Dimas Ave. Loved this 6 mile hike. Not sure why this isn't called the Michael D Antonovich Trail. I guess it's inside of Walnut Creek Park. There are some river crossing but itsn't to bad depending on the season you go. I had an amazing time doing this hike. Even though couple days later, I found out that I fractured my finger. So what stupid me did was made a dare with one of my friends by saying if you swing on the tire swing, then i'll do it. Long story short... I had to do it. Never had proper training with a tire swing, so I thought I could just hold on to the rope and swing on it. Found out the hard way that it doesn't work that way. So I swung on it and lost my grip and fell into the stream. I'm guessing when I braced my fall in the stream, my right 4th digit finger got jammed. Still a fun hike, but i think I might have to bubble wrap myself. Gosh I'm so accident prone... Cheers and beers! read more

It's really fun, I went with my sister and my boyfriend it's kind of steep and has lots of holes on the round and rocks so be carful, it's a 3 miles hike, once we got to the main area there's a rope to swing on, just make sure you don't fall into the water using it. There were some bugs and insects so be extremely careful. Overall a blast for a little hike. read more

It was a pretty easy hike very pretty with all the greenery and such but not with all the new graffiti there on the concrete side half way through the hike also the parking was kinda confusing it look like going through a one way street then the parking lot with cars randomly parked hoping not to get stuck between two but that's pretty much all the complaints over all the hike was pretty and nice read more

The park itself is great! It was just a bit difficult to find parking; we definitely had to drive around for a while. I love this area because it is very shady and calming. The creek that runs through the park is nice and tranquil. There are pretty moderate trails with little to no incline, so it is appropriate for hikers of all levels. It is also dog friendly! It can get pretty packed on the weekends, but I would recommend to go in the early morning. read more

This hike was nice up till the end where the tree cover stopped and it became a vigorous hike up to the top. What was at the top? A freeway and a parking lot just like in the Joni Mitchell song. It's best to turn around and go back when the tree cover stops. Not worth the effort to complete the entire hike, especially if you have kids or strollers (as many did on the day I was there). read more

Such a hidden gem right here! You go down this steep hill and there's a free parking lot at the bottom before the bridge. Severals different paths and options to choose from along the creek. Seemed like they were making new paths when I went. Such a refreshing retreat. read more

This place is pretty sweet, the hiking trails are fun and an enjoyable experience definitely to be shared! I love how tranquil and beautiful it is, the sounds of the river, the squirrels running around, the non-existence of flocks of people, it's just you and nature with fresh air and cool breezes tucked in the back of multi-million dollar homes pretty hidden, if you're not familiar with the area you'd never know it was there but that's what makes this place special, it's hidden and waiting for the brave to come and explore something new! Parking is free just bring your camera and be ready to go photo crazy as this spot boast scenery like no other location and after the hike if you're up to it ? There's a Buddhist temple at the top of the hill if you follow the road over the little bridge just tell the guard you're there to "visit the temple". Happy hiking everyone! read more

Been coming here for over 10 years now. It's right down the street from home so I walk here. The only reason I'm posting is because I saw a decent sized bobcat today. I didn't know there were wild cats on this trail, only thought there were coyotes. The cat crossed in front of me and growled a little, then went on his way. Wish I could have taken a picture but I was a little scared and in awe at the same time. He was a beautiful cat. read more

This was a really nice hiking area. It was super clean! No trash. The hike was easy & there's lots of shade. The streams run along side the hiking path pretty much the whole way until you go further up. We didn't reach the top, but I hear there's a buddhist temple at the very end. Great for families & kids to explore and cross the shallow streams. But watch out for all poison oak around. There was a lot. read more

The summer is dwindling down to an end and the nights are getting cooler. This day was a perfect day to go on a hike on this perfect trail. This place is well shaded and cool from the tranquil creek that STILL had water- even though there is a drought that California is experiencing. You first descend down a hill towards the right-side of the creek and then must walk along it until you must cross it by stepping on stones. Be careful because some of these stones may be slippery when wet. For the most part, this trail is pretty leveled with the minimal amount of inclines and declines. If you're feeling adventurous, I urge you to hike the path less traveled uphill and you will find yourself at some awesome hidden gardens and vantage points. Here are some tips: -Bring bug repellant, there are a lot of nats and bugs due to the shallow creek. These nasty suckers will attempt to gouge your eye and the moment you blink, they will get caught in it. Nasty, right? -Put on hiking shoes with a good grip because of the stones that you may have to step on the cross the creek. -This hike is not a loop so gauge how far you want to go until you want to go back. -This trail is almost shaded the whole time so you don't need too much sun protection. -Google maps directions will lead you to a gate with a security guard, the trail head is at the parking lot about 50 yards prior to that. This trail has lots of wildlife, trees, and it is very secluded. This is a pretty intermediate hike. Enjoy some nature and have fun! read more

This park can be seen from Google maps as a very dense woods snaking between a bunch of rich people houses. It sparked my interest as there's a creek that runs through it (obviously from the park's name). There's an article from 1991 in the LA Times that says the creek in this park survives long droughts and I saw that to be true. In areas with deeper water flow, you'll see small schools of fish! I started from the southwest area that is isolated by Reeder Street. This area is just south of Masonic Homes. I hiked with a group underneath a bridge below Reeder Street to continue onto the other areas with signs posting "West Nile Confirmed in this Area." Staying on the "Antonovich" trail and avoiding all other trails with similar names, we made it through in 2 hours while constantly stopping to check out the nature. The end touches the 57 freeway and it is a picnic area that overlooks the wilderness. Definitely a unique park in the East San Gabriel Valley! read more

Went there awhile back late fall last year and I guess I fell asleep and forgot to review this little trail. It's kinda hidden, I did navigator on my cell and it got me to Valley Center Ave (looking back I think it gave me directions to the Buddhist Tzu Foundation). Later, we found out there was actual parking inside, looks like horse stable area, but it's was actually parking (or both??), as well as parking on San Dimas Avenue. Anyhow we regretted parking that far, because coming back was a steep climb - this being us going all the way up to Michael Antonovich trail leading into San Dimas Avenue and crossing over to same trail leading into Bonelli Regional Park and back, it killed us since it was kind of a hot day. Plus was seeing a little group of farm animals (goats & stuff) on the long walk on concrete in. It's up to your liking to make it short by going up to San Dimas Ave & back or crossover and go further. It's shaded for the most part (unless they cut down some trees??? Hope not!) and has nice small creeks. Best times to go is early morning before it gets hot and on weekdays, I can imagine it being more congested on weekends and late afternoons it looks like it gets abused by the local idiots that have no respect for property and nature. I do recall seeing some trash & tagging there :( Great for the locals and if your making a special trip, it's best doing this trail along with it leading into Bonelli making the most of it, otherwise your wasting gas for the short trail. Name confuses me, it's part Walnut Creek and you end up on Michael Antonovich - go figure? read more

I took my Mum and brother here this morning to check the trail out, as one of my friends came here with her children and posted fun pictures. I thought it was a nice park/hiking trail that had decent parking, amenities, and safety precaution signs - pretty much everything and anything that will help visitors feel safer and more secure. But the park did not really meet our expectations. Though I do agree with some of the commenters who consider this place a "hidden gem," my family and I feel that Walnut Creek park is still underdeveloped especially for children. Here are some of our suggestions on how to better make the place a more visitor/kid-friendly and secure for all: 1) Coming from South Valley Center Avenue and upon reaching the fork on the road, there should be a sign that points to where to head to the park. 2) There should be a sign at the parking area that clearly indicates parking for the park. Not that it is a lack of common sense, but it relieves people's doubts about whether or not that is the actual parking for the park. 3) Proper designated parking spots. This morning we saw a car parked at the small trail entrance where the creek runs through, and some cars parked right behind one another like there is Valet or something. It should be common sense NOT to block off the entrance. We also saw two cars parked on the side of the already very narrow road. 4) Signs indicating safety precautions at certain areas such as the wooded areas (e.g. watch out for poionous snakes, insects, wild animals, etc.) 5) Safety signs to watch out for horse or other animal waste matter. We spotted a small pile of horse poo at one of the entrances to the trail - NOT COOL. It is to help visitors feel secure that the park is kept clean and sanitary. 6) Safety signs to keep off from the creek water due to possible pathogens lurking in the water. And of course, not to drink it . 7) A small yet sturdy wooden bridge for kids to cross over the creek to get to the other side. read more

Let me start by saying that I live a block away from the entrance so I'm biased. That being said, I love this trail! You'll run into a few unpleasantries e.g., condom wrappers, graffiti, and the occasional shady character but I still enjoy it every time. Next time I may make it a scavenger hunt and cross off the ghetto sights for fun. I enjoy this trail because there's tons of shade which makes for a cool hike even when the sun is being ridiculous like it sometimes is. Love the creek crossings although I'd leave your nicer pair of shoes at home. I made the mistake of taking one of my faves (Nike Lunarlaunch in teal) and they're pretty funky now. Accidentally slipped into some stagnant creek water. I take my dog and she loves the trail. There are a lot of Mosquitos so wear bug repellent. I'm sooo lucky to have this in my "backyard". read more

One of my favorite hikes when I need something short and cardio pumping. Always start out off of San Dimas Ave so I can jog down to the campground and then run back up. Good decline and incline to get those muscles burning. It's a relatively easy trail, with plenty of parking at the campground and enough parking at the side entrance at San Dimas Ave. There are a few places where the trail goes through the creek but a few ways to pass them without getting wet. Great for dogs and to explore. Very pretty. read more
