Got into eureka just before 9pm after a long day on the road. It's Covid so the restaurant couldn't serve inside but has a tent set up in the parking lot. We walked up at 8:55pm , 5min before they closed and was greeted by the team who was so kind and welcoming despite being "those guys" showing up at close. The team had music going and heaters and it was easy to see they were working their butts off to make the experience great for their guests. I was literally blown away at the service. I have given this place multiple chances to have a positive outcome but this time they have killed my grace. The first time they were slow.. nothing overly bad but not great service. The second, I asked the waitress 4 times for the same drink and it never came.. at one point she stopped me on the way to the bathroom to tell me it hadn't came like yes i know babe i know.. im thirsty.. the third time We did not have a waiter/waitress. No instead we had random ones coming to the table at wierd intervals. Tried to give us the wrong food twice. Not once did any of them refill our waters without specific instruction. We had to ask for them to remove plates multiple times. And we bought appetizers the main entrees and dessert. To never remove a plate?! Like where were we suppose to eat ? On the floor? Where is thier training?! read more

Applebee's Grill + Bar - What my food looked like - gross and nothing like it was supposed to be - American Near Me - Eureka, California

I'm driving down the coast with my family and staying the night here in Eureka. I wanted slightly better than fast food but not expensive restaurant prices so I chose Applebee's. I knew what I expected to get. So I ordered food on the phone so I could pick up and go to the hotel room, sit in my pjs and relax. As we arrived we were jovially greeted by a waitress. She was quick and efficient. I sat there for about ten minutes (I showed up early so I expected to wait) and watched waitresses cycle out the door for their smoke break. Eventually we got our food, paid the fair price and drove home. Upon setting out our food to dig in and enjoy I was greeted by several surprises. My first surprise is I had not received what I ordered. I asked for a chicken club and got a chicken burger. I guess it's kinda the same right? I mean they both have chicken... and bread.... well trying to be laid back I figured it was no big deal. Then I got my Second surprise..... we got a chicken oriental salad. Apparently they thought I wanted it rare. Cause that's how they served the "crispy chicken." In all fairness it was crispy on the outside so they technically told the truth. But the chicken was completely raw in the middle. So all in all if you want a low priced meal in this town I would think about looking somewhere else. While I don't choose to frequent Applebee's very often, a pal and I were picking up our girlfriend from the airport one evening and she wanted us to go out for a drink afterwards on a Wednesday evening. After 9pm on a Wednesday, your choices are very limited! We stopped in and were seated right away. We each ordered cocktails and started browsing appetizers on their tabletop tablets. I believe we were there during a happy hour, because several different appetizers were around $4 each. We ordered several appetizers to accompany our cocktails and they arrived rather fast. Our waitress was very friendly, but the tablets on the table really cut down on the time you need to interact with them. I can appreciate Applebee's for the consistency and the convenience factor, but if you're hoping to dine in Eureka, there are a lot of fantastic mom and pop restaurants that offer much more exciting eats. I would compare Applebee's offerings to bar food. It's great when you're looking for some late night fried food, especially if you're hoping to accompany it with a fun cocktail, but it would not be my choice for a meal. read more

Great service and the food was good! Our waitress was GREAT!! We were here for lunch after our daughters College Graduation for HSU! Thankfully her graduation was 8:30AM. I'm not sure if I'm more upset at the food itself or the fact that the manager(or kitchen) tried to insult my intelligence. I asked for fries on the side of MY meal because i don't really care for potatoes / mashed potatoes or any potatoes for that matter. I waited for my food to be done which took about 30 minutes (for one dish), but when i got it - it was lukewarm .. hmm not to mention my food had clearly been sitting on top of bed of mashed potatoes and then taken off and shaken up inside of the Togo box to MASK their mistake. Ok whatever. I simply let the manger know his response was, "I am so sorry let me have them remake that for you!" Ok cool! So boom I'm waiting for my food .. food comes out and it's hot! I'm like ok great it's fresh. I open the box and they tried to COOK THE MASHED POTATOES OFF OF MY FOOD! Are you kidding me? I won't be eating here again i order the same thing every time and it usually taste great but today was not the same flavors and also the mashed potato mistake or whatever. Applebee's is always a go to place. They have a variety of you don't know what you are in the mood for and whatever you choose is always good. I love their bbq boneless wings. The food was good but our server just got on my nerves lol. It is 10:02 and we are about to leave but of course my son wants dessert. He asks her for a chocolate shake and she goes "that will like take forever to make. Like there's nothing clean back there and we have to wash some stuff. Food was a let down, the brisket tacos were dripping grease and the " mac and cheese with tenders " was penne pasta with a light coating of sauce and 3 bite size pieces of a chicken tender. Service was ok, but when I went to tip on the machine it automatically went to 20%, which I tried to move to 15%. The first two times I tried it wouldn't process my card, so I tried leaving the tip amount at 20% and it magically worked that time read more

Oh, come on now: Enough with these Bay Area prudes. Yeah, it's a chain (duh). And yes, the menus are laminated with pictures. The wait staff are young, eager and top-notch -- in a 50s-diner sort of way. Sure, the decor is cheesy and the drink menu is replete with dubious concoctions, but still, all the basics are covered. If what you're looking for is a huge cheeseburger, fries and a beer, and a cheerful server -- and want it quickly because you've got family who just flew in from the Midwest -- you can't go wrong. I've never been to the bar but, mysteriously, it keeps getting voted Best Bar (Times-Standard). Go figure. read more

I felt nervous when we were walking in because of the poor condition of the exterior, but figured I was being too critical. Nope, the inside was also run down. Don't try ordering to go: 1). Ordered ribs with honey sauce. Got ribs with spicy sauce. 2). Ordered brownie bite. Got Blondie brownie. Green beans were over cooked mush. Potatoes were ok. So I came here today while getting new tires to help kill some time. And I have to say I was super impressed. The bacon cheeseburger was delicious and the bun didn't get soggy! It was toasted perfectly and the fries were super crispy and seasoned well. I also got the chicken wonton tacos and they were so good. I don't understand all the bad reviews. My server was great and yes this is a chain restaurant people but that doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful towards the people that work here. Humboldt county is very rude when it comes to chain restaurants and as someone who moved from down south it's very sad to see them leave awful reviews when the service is great and the food is good too. My server was absolutely wonderful and if I'm on this side of town getting work done on my car I will keep coming back here to kill the time! read more

The food had good taste and the food service was good. For some reason the Bar Service at this restaurant is really slow. We were there about 3pm and it still took 20 minutes to get our drinks. The only other drawback was the portion size, see picture of the steak. read more

Good old Applebee's. I tend to be seated in the section a former classmate waits on, everytime I come to the restaurant :) She always greets me by name. The table there are usually sticky, but it's the territory of steakhouse sauces and delicious deserts. Not to mention sweet cocktails! One of the items brought to me was a bit below temp, and they had no problem fixing this for me. I love this location and I will be coming back. read more

We are traveling back from Mendocino to Corvallis, OR; about a 10 hour road trip. Our group of 7 ordered, nothing big or complicated, while there was only five other people in the restaurant. We placed our order at 11:27am. It felt as if our food would be done quickly and we'd be on the road again by 12:00. After much delayed wait, the restaurant began to fill up for lunch hour. Our food did not arrive until 12:15. Almost a 50 minute wait for 3 burgers, two quesadillas, one salad, and a pasta bowl. This is a shame. I'd have lots of indignation if I was the manager and shame as a local. Do not stop here if you expect quick service or wish to not feel irritated about waiting time. read more

yeah its Applebee's just a fancy'er Denny's but the food here is actually pretty good as long as you are not looking for somthing like French Laundry. But we are in Humboldt County and i cant seem to find anything that comes even close to that. And the other thing that they have here that Denny's does not is a bar and the bartender did make a really good top shelf cosmo. So it was pretty fun to drink cockel-tail during lunch while lookiing at all the crap on the walls. read more

Our server was great. The food was not. The sirloin steak was pretty good and I really enjoyed the sweet potatoes. Our waitress forgot our sweet potato fries but that wasn't really a big issue and they were out and fresh fairly quickly. The whiskey bacon burger was a disappointment. I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants but my sister, and my cousin and her boyfriend wanted to eat here because it's a familiar restaurant in an unfamiliar place. The first thing that we noticed is that this placed was packed. The parking lot was busy and there were many groups patronizing the restaurant. We were seated quickly but service was slow. I don't think this is intentional, I just strongly believe that everything in Eureka is a little slower than in the Bay Area which can be nice when you just want to chill and unwind at the end of the day. What makes this place unique is the atmosphere, as in the people, which is very different from what you'd get from the Bay Area... I don't know if you can tell but I'm having a bit of a culture shock. I just moved to Humboldt County and everything is.... different. The waitstaff and the general friendly environment made the visit worth it. I'll come back again... albeit, with a full stomach (since the food is just OK) and an eagerness to drink some beer. read more

My husband and I have heard nothing but negativity about Applebee's. Nevertheless, we were tired and hungry enough one rainy night to give it a shot. Most of the menu was a little out of our budget but they have a section of the menu where you can choose two entrees for $20 or two slightly fancier entrees for $25, and you get an appetizer for free. We both got the 6oz sirloin with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and we shared the BBQ boneless wings. The wings were to die for! My husband only managed to get two of them. I shamelessly stuffed my face. As soon as we finished the wings, the waitress took away the dishes. Maybe five minutes later, our dinner arrived. The steaks seemed too little and we thought we'd still be hungry after, but no! Though the portions were small, we were very satisfied at the end and didn't feel up to dessert. I do wish that they had given me a little more broccoli though. It was delicious. We came back again a couple weeks later and everything was just as good. It did take our waitress a few minutes to get our waters, but they were pretty busy and as a former waitress myself I really do understand. They're not robots, for crying out loud! We won't be going on weekends as neither of us do well with crowds, but this is definitely our new during-the-week date night spot! read more

Another chain restaurant in Eureka. It's always packed, but perhaps people don't mind putting junk into their bodies. Most food here is microwaed and precooked. All comes in a frozen bag that you toss in the deep fryer. Sure sometimes I'll be in the mood to feed my body waste and I'll stop in, but I don't recommend. read more

Our Server Kim barely paid any attention to us, it was like she was in her own little world. It was a slow Sunday night. Every time she came to the table she wouldn't acknowledge everybody when someone asked for something she would turn away before anyone else could ask for something and then she'd be gone a while. We had no napkins with our appetizers. We had to ask for utensils more then once. She never removed any dirty glasses off our table just kept bringing refills in new glasses. We had to start putting empty plates and glasses behind us on another table to make room. My girlfriend said she had this same server two times before and her service was poor then. The overall service of the whole restaurant was poor. We sat in the middle of dirty tables for the two hours we were there. Our food was Luke warm, but we ate it as is because we knew we wouldn't see our server for a while. My mashed sweet potatoes ended up having a paper tag with a date on it in them that I found towards the end of the meal. The manager came over to apologize but I had to ask for a discount. Come on really? You wouldn't just discount it on your own or take it off the bill? Unfortunately we only left a 10% tip on a $160 bill and we almost didn't leave that. August 22 my family of 10 went to dinner. It was my daughters birthday and just 2 weeks ago when we were there for my sisters birthday the staff sang happy birthday, they just stopped doing this. Tgen sisters food was half cold, did they warm it up from the microwave? My brother in laws steak was raw. And the bill was 222.51 with no birthday song. The waitress came over and said "i cant talk anyone in to sing with me". ok applebees now it seems like you are just like tge rest of the restaurants only there for the $$$$ read more
