When my dad was active in the ham radio club, they would have their meetings here once a week. Even though he's not active, they still do. He's always said good things, but I've never eaten here. I finally decided to come in today. It's a nice place. It's clean, and everybody is friendly. Just a nice simple neighborhood restaurant vibe. I decided to go with the taco omelette. Taco meat, cheddar, onions, olives, and diced tomato. It also came with a salsa, guac,, and sour cream on the side. Instead of potatoes, I got a nice cup of fruit. The omelette was big, and it was delicious. Lots of fillings, the beef was well seasoned, and the other taco fillings just went well with each other. The sour cream was good, the salsa was not spicy, it had a little bit of a smoky flavor, and the guac was excellent. It had a good flavor, it was more than just mashed up avocado. The coffee was also good, and they kept my cup full. The price was very reasonable, and they do a military/veterans discount. I'm glad I finally stopped in here. I will be back. Thank you. read more

This place isn't fancy but it's good. The menu is quite extensive and includes some great deals for seniors (55+). I wasn't too hungry so just ordered 1/2 sandwich and soup. The turkey sandwich was pretty meaty and the garden vegetable soup was very tasty. The service was friendly and efficient. Will come in to try breakfast sometime soon. read more

My son and I were passing through town and picked a Village Pantry for dinner. We each opted for the County Breakfast for dinner. We are both Disney fans, and my son was wearing his Disney hat. Great diner, got the chicken fried steak dinner. After driving 6hrs to Eureka and staying at a hotel nearby, I didn't want to go venture out. Husband and I are not from the area. We were on our way to Oregon, so we stopped at a motel. Both of us were famished and drove up and down the street, and the one restaurant we saw had a long wait, so we went to Village Pantry because we saw they were open. I think they were about to close in a half hour, but we didn't know. I felt so bad after realizing their hours on the window. Anyway, they seated us and took our order. They never made us feel like we had to rush out. Which I appreciate so much. I had a country fried steak (or is it called Chicken Fried Steak?). It was delicious and my husband loved his food, too. We should have known not to order prime rib on a diner. But hey, we've been to nice diners who cook nice steaks. Unfortunately, this place is not one of them. My husband tried to stop me from ordering the prime rib, but I didn't listen. He ended up ordering it too because I convinced him it's a steak kind'a night. I got all the "i told you so" I deserve, and more! In fairness to the serve staff, the lady who waited on us is really nice and tried her best to fix the food (or tried to convince us it's fixed). We did had a nice salad and the fries and onion rings are good. The mashed potato is obviously powdered (powdery potatoes unravel from the chunks), and the coleslaw is peppery. And here you go: medium rare prime rib is not the same as raw prime rib. Big difference! Check out the pictures and see for yourself. As a rule, we DO NOT send food back to have it fixed. But for this one, we broke our rule to give the cook a chance to redeem himself. And what do you know, I got my second round of "I told you so" from the hubby. Bottomline is, we still paid for the food we fail to eat. Also, I should have known that a $20 prime rib won't equate to that of Cattlemen's regular $30 prime rib. Not quite an expensive lesson, but lesson learned really well. read more

We've lived in Eureka for 7 years now. And we have eaten at most of the restaurants and it seems as you can't find consistency. At the Pantry it's not fine dining and I don't think they want to be. The food is very good, not expensive and consistent. The staff is friendly and welcoming and fast. This is now our favorite restaurant and as of late we eat there a few times a week. Usually, this place has excellent customer service and fantastic food. We're from Oregon but my husband is from Eureka and whenever we visit we always make it a point to stop for a meal. The chicken fried steak is the best we ever had! So imagine how excited we were to see that they've re-opened for dine in after all this quarantine madness! Husband and I were excited for a date night, our first real one since coronavirus hit. Unfortunately, being from a different state where our rules are different and masks are not yet REQUIRED in public places but rather suggested, we weren't aware we would need them upon entering. There were 3 other parties seated around and non of them wore masks so we assumed we were safe. From the time that we entered we were greeted very rudely by a server named Kim. In a harsh and judgemental tone, Kim demanded "where are your mask! You can't be here with out one!" She then proceeded to say nasty and rude comments implying that we were dumb for not knowing we should wear a mask while we ate, even though none of the other patrons were wearing one. I also noticed as the only colored person in the restaurant, I was the only one being treated the most unkindly. Needless to say our first evening out was very much spoiled by Kim. We might give it another try on another visit but definitely won't be back as long as Kim is dishing out that kind of customer service. read more

They have since improved their bathroom scene. I had started a review quite a while back and that was a significant factor in my review, yet I had never finished and posted it. Such a big improvement! Anyhow, the main subject... dining. This is my go-to breakfast place. They should get 5 stars (I'm a tough rater, though) because this is the ONLY restaurant close by that has VEGETARIAN GRAVY and is not a specialty vegan/ vegetarian restaurant. That is very significant to me! Their gravy is delicious! And their biscuits deserve just as much praise. They have a great kids menu, grilled cheese sandwiches are super yummy. Their French fries are always great quality and satisfying. This is just a great comfort food restaurant. I noticed some time ago, they had slightly altered the menu in a good way, adding bell peppers to their home fries. Their vegetable soup was made fresh with homemade ingredients. I could tell because the carrots weren't uniformly cut as if factory processed, which is telltale and they also reinforced that they MAKE THEIR SOUP FROM SCRATCH. This place is so underrated I didn't mention yet that the prices are extremely fair. I have recommended this restaurant to my airbnb guests. read more

A quick stop on the way out of town to head towards Santa Cruz area. I was told by my traveling partner that they have the best eggs Benedict ever! So we stopped here. Interior reminds me of an old Lyons restaurant. Traditional design inside. Some of the benches could use some work. The springs are worn out so be careful when sitting down. Great place for a traditional breakfast. Promptly seated, coffee and waters within seconds. The server took our orders, and 10 minutes tops, we had our food. My veggie omelette was excellent and so were the potatoes. The BF's breakfast was good as well. No complaints from us. We had breakfast on Saturday around 0900 hours.
