I recently dined at Ampersea with my nephew. What an amazing experience! We sat outside - it was a gorgeous evening - but there were also plenty of heat lamps surrounding the tables. My nephew and I shared the brussel sprouts - delicious! I ordered the salmon with a side of truffle fries (The diet starts tomorrow) and my nephew had the crab cake with a baked potato. We also had a bottle of prosecco and for dessert fried cookie dough with vanilla ice cream (Maybe the diet should start today). The menu is fantastic and if I lived in Baltimore, I'd dine at Ampersea once a week. Our waitress Ashley was fantastic - super attentive and kind enough to do a "photo shoot" at the end of our meal too. I highly recommend Ampersea - the ambiance, food and service were all five stars! I also recommend making a reservation in advance. One more quick thing: they also had a guitar player (we were there on a Friday night) who was really great as well. read more

The views are amazing because it's the water but the food is not worth the visit. Came for the seafood but everything but the seafood was good. The crab cake was extra salty. The lobster roll was dried flakes of lobsters on a dried out bun. Horrible. Came because of the reviews but not trusting that ever again. Our waiter was missing majority of the time. We made more contact with the food runners than we did with the waiter. Word of caution, they include the gratuity so if your waiter is crap, you still pay. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! I repeat, do NOT eat at this establishment. The customer service is absolutely terrible. From the waitress even up to the manager, extremely rude and refuse to accommodate for a PAYING CUSTOMER. Yes the view is nice but the food is not good enough to be dealing with that terrible customer service. read more

Great spot for after work drinks! Try snagging the fire pit area under the trees. Very peaceful and great view. We had the Rye Spicy Mule and orange crush. 10/10 read more

Ampersea - The manager turned on the fire pit and planters to keep the bugs away! - New American Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Great place for outdoor drinks and appetizers. The food is nothing extraordinary but the location on the water is fabulous. It would be great if they could add a few tables to the bar area. Staff and service were delightful. Not sure I would choose this as s dinner spot. read more

DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT!! I have been dining out for decades and have never seen a restaurant that adds 18% gratuity no matter the party size. This restaurant does - apparently it's in the small print at the bottom of the menu (which if you make your selections before you get to the bottom you won't see). It was on the bill but I thought it was the alcohol tax (I didn't have my reading glasses on and I was still chatting with my friend). The bill was $150 (including this gratuity which we didn't realize was added on yet) so we left C. Garland, our server, $30 in cash. I always look at the final number and I add 20% tip. I didn't realize tip had been added on until I got home. I called the restaurant and said that this server was now left $50 for a $120 bill! 18% that the restaurant added plus the $30 cash. I asked the manager, Kristen, to please credit my card back for the 18% on the $120 because we paid a 20% tip on $150. Kristen just called back a day later and they are refusing to credit the 18%. She said "how do we know that you gave $30 in cash"? If your server is honest, she should tell you. You would think that as a business, they would do the right thing but in this case, they refuse to help at all. I will not return to this restaurant and will do my best to make sure that our friends and family do not as well. Just bad business... read more

Beautiful location and very low key. I have not visited on busier days. I've literally been one of a handful each time which is fine with me. However I enjoyed the food and the cocktails are notable. Perfect for a date or lunch with friends! Very scenic view of the harbor. read more

Sitting here now at Ampersea, and I have to say this is the worst service I have experienced in Baltimore. The owner/manger is more concerned about drinking his own beer and getting his friends shots, than serving his customers. We ordered drinks, apps, and entree all at the same time for 7 people. The apps come out with only 2 of the 7 ordered drinks. After 30 minutes, we finally asked the the manager. He said they we're out of the wine the others ordered. This should have been addressed immediately. The manger said he would comp the drinks for the delay. The bill comes out, and the drinks are on it. After the terrible service, the gratuity was added to a tab. This deserved 10% max. In sum, terrible service and ok. Stay away until there is a commitment to service. read more

I had dinner with a friend here last night and do not plan to go back. I dine out a lot and was very disappointed with this place. The service was slow and just not great. The positive is that the view is beautiful and the Brussel sprout app was delicious. There were lots of mosquitoes though which were making several people go inside. I ordered a dirty martini with olives and the waiter brought me a martini and said they didn't have olives so he gave me a cucumber instead. The crab dip was a little greasy but okay. The soft pretzel is huge - and very good. The Barada salad barely had any cheese on it and the seafood soup entree was just not very flavorful. And had a large prawn in it that i had to pick apart with my fingers. I had looked at the website for restaurant week before going and it said they were one of the restaurants that had extended it for another week however when we got there the waiter said he checked with the manager and that was a mistake. We were bummed about that since we had several other places we were going to check out and would have picked one of those had we known. They have a great location so hopefully they will figure out a way to work on some of their issues. read more

Experienced Ampersea for the first time a couple weeks ago. Made a reservation for a group of 6, cocktails were amazing I recommend the mule. food was sublime. Service was very solid. This is a perfect date location. The patio is pretty calm and peaceful for being on the harbor. Great views of the harbor & domino sugar. I will be back. read more

The location has a great feel. The view is fantastic. Will be a lot of fun in the summer. The service was enthusiastic but young. I'm sure they'll get it together. STOP!!!!!! DO NOT GO HERE. BAD EXPERIENCE! Here is the story. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for 2 to celebrate my wife birthday which was June 5, 2021. Before making the reservation I called the restaurant to ask a few questions. One of the questions were if they could reserve a seat near the water outside. The hostess stated that even though they could not guarantee a table by the water, that they would try to accommodate. The hostess directed me to make a note on my reservation to request a seat by the water so the could try and accommodate. I made the reservation online and put a request in the note section as directed. On the day of the reservation my wife and I arrived at Ampersea restaurant and was greeted almost immediately. The hostess checked us in and shoed us to our table. Once being shown our table I immediately realized that it was not what I requested. I informed the Hostess that I requested a table by the water and she stated that it was not available. Since I knew this could be a possibility (even though the hostess when I called made it seem like a sure thing) I asked if she could check to see how long the next table near the water would be available. She stated that it would not be a problem and to follow her back to the front. She checked and stated that it may take 20 to 30 minutes before a table would be available in the section I requested. I asked the hostess if I could speak to a manager if possible and Manager/ Owner Kyle just happened to be in the area. I explained everything to him but to no avail he seemed uninterested in the situation. He stated that they were busy and he couldn't do anything about it. Honestly he was really rude with his tone and mannerisms. I stated that me and my wife would just wait the 20 to 30 minutes for the table to open outside and he stated that we would not be able to do that. I informed him that the hostess just told me that it could take up to 30 minutes for a table and I don't mind waiting. Kyle looked at the hostess and said that "No we would not be able to do that." He offered me a table inside the restaurant which I respectfully declined. So even after the rudeness express by Kyle because the hostess for very polite, me and my wife thought it would be best just to take the original table outside and deal with not being near the water. Mind you from the time we was shown the original seating arrangement to the time we decided to settle about 3 to 4 minutes have passed (it was quick conversations). We told Kyle that we will just take the original seating arrangements in the back outside. Kyle stated that the table was already taken and that he could sit us inside. I was confused at first because so little time had passed and we never confirmed with Kyle or the hostess that we would not take the original seating arrangement. Matter a fact he stated that we couldn't have a new table outside when asked. I asked Kyle why is our original reservation not available anymore and he that he gave the table away to another customer. The customer that got the table didn't even have a reservation they were walk ins. I over heard there conversation when talking to the hostess. Kyle stated that they were busy and that it was nothing that he could do. Kyle just walked away from us as if he didn't care. Me and My wife left the restaurant at that time. Little did we know having that experience at Ampersea would lead us to one of its competitors that evening. My wife actually had a great time that night which was what it was all about. From reading the reviews with other past customers it appear that this is a regular thing for Kyle to be disrespectful and demeaning to customers. The lack of empathy and care that Kyle show is horrible and it can be shown on one of the responses he gave to a review written on google about a customer past experience. It like he is making fun of people that have legitimate concerns with himself and his establishment. read more

I came a few times last spring and summer but I have been several times since the cupcakes & champagne event back in November! There have been some menu changes (seasonal and other) that were definitely for the better.. I really, really like their half & half soup because it's full of lump crab meat, unlike some others nearby. They have really good specials for happy hours and different weekday specials too. I thought the restaurant week menu was amazing (I did the scallops for my main course and they were perfect) for the price. I saw that previous reviews had complained about food/service, but it seems like they've really tightened up in those departments. I'm excited for my next trip!!! But even more excited for brunching on that patio again!!! read more

The views are fantastic! The food is delicious! Norbert was our phenomenal server! He took excellent care of us. This was my second visit to Ampersea for Beats and Brunch. I must say that last month with DJ Impulse was great and the food and drinks were on point. So much so that I invited others to join me for Beats and Brunch on June 3rd. What a nightmare. Service was poor. After arriving at 12 noon we did not receive our food until after 2pm. When we spoke to management we were informed that the printer in the kitchen ran out of paper so our order never went in. This was after our aloof waiter ( Norbit) told us 40 minutes previously that the chef was plating our meals (BS!). Other patrons in the restaurant were also complaining about the long wait for food and drinks. If your wait staff are going to be slow to refill drinks , just leave the pitcher on the table. We actually asked for a pitcher of rum punch which we received due to the long wait for pre- mixed drinks. Entree items that we ordered last month were not the same this month. The Ribeye Omelette was poorly put together, the Catfish Sandwich was equivalent to a Filet of Fish at McDonalds, and the Seafood Omelette which we did send back had no crab meat. How can a restaurant go downhill in less than one month? The only saving grace was the DJ. read more

First time going to Ampersea, my bf and I wanted to go someplace new and different but also on the water. Outside seating area was cute and overlooked the pier where people were running and walking their dogs. Good ambience outdoors and it's where the majority of people were seated around 6:30 when we went. Only one couple inside. Food was excellent. We made it just in time for happy hour. $1 dollar oysters and $5 glasses of wine We also split the cheeseburger deviled eggs which were fire. For our entrees, my boyfriend got the pan seared scallop scampi and I got the Marconi chopped salad. Brian's review on the scampi--scallops themselves were on point. Only came with three, wish there were more but they were a decent size. The angel hair pasta was ok the sauce was light but it was very lemony. Me on Marconi salad--really good. The dressing was light and it was a pretty big dish. My only complaint is that it came with three little shrimp. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed the Light City Dinner & cruise! The dinner was great...the crab soup was delish. Enjoyed sampling the Ampersea wines during dinner & cruise. Went for dinner for our 19-year old daughters' birthday on Memorial Day. Had a 7:15 reservation and when arriving at hostess stand there seemed to be a great deal of confusion about where to seat us. We asked for outdoor seating and were shown to our table. The inside of the restaurant was almost empty and the outside busy. It was not a welcoming start. We sat for almost 15 minutes before someone greeted us. The person who came over seemed to be a manager or head bartender who noticed us while delivering wine service to other tables. Our waitress appeared afterwards and did not seem to be trained or was impaired. (Do not know her name but she had extremely long eye lashes, mumbled, wandered, apologized throughout the evening.) When waitress appeared she asked us to order entrees before drinks or appetizer arrived. She came up to the table once and just said "How are you?" It was very strange behavior. When we did order entrees, they did not arrive for almost 1.5 hours. We had to flag down waitress to order a second drink which also did not come for a long time. (When we asked, she went to the end of the bar and picked them up.) The same manager/bartender who initially took our drink order came back over to say that he knew things were not working out and they would send over free dessert. After food finally came out the restaurant was largely empty and staff was working around us to sanitize tables and clear everything while we ate. Another waitress came over to give us more water and said, "though I'm not your waitress I will help you." We had to wait for the check when we finished even though the restaurant was almost empty. (We passed on the free dessert because we were full and had been there already for way too long.) It is too bad this server was so poor. We will not return. The food was good and view beautiful but when entrees are $30 - $40, this is unacceptable. Some of the food that we had already ordered should have been comped. My husband and I have both waited tables so we are very understanding customers and know the demands of the job. We felt badly for the other people trying to correct the situation but will not be back for a second try. read more

I'd have to echo similar sentiments about the poor service here. We stood in the door for 5 minutes waiting to be seated or acknowledged. Waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged when we sat down. We were given a blank drink menu (black with no pages, lol). Food came approx 40 min later and was great, but my $15 burger did not have the fried egg on it. I think this will be a great place once they get their act together with service- it just seemed like really off-putting and took a long time. I dont know if Id return just because of the service which is a shame because the food was good and the view is beautiful. read more

The horrible customer service of this place prevented me from ever making it through the doors. My party called and made a confirmed reservation for a party of 5 days in advance. We also called this evening to confirm and see if the reservation could be moved back by 15 minutes (the hostess said that it could). When the party began to arrive, they were told that the reservation did not exist. Ultimately, we were transferred to the manager who told us that reservations for more than 4 are not even possible on the weekend. He implied that we were lying about the reservation. When we asked if we could be accommodated the manager put me "on hold" for more than 10 minutes. In reality, he has transferred me to a different line because the hostess kept picking up and asking how she could help me. Ultimately, she went and retrieved the manager who told me that he was busy "running around doing manager things." He had a terrible terrible attitude and asked when we could get there. I told him 15 minutes. He said "OK. I'll see you when I get there then immediately hung up on me. read more

Walked in off the street. Amazing food and even better service. Thank you so much!!!!

Went today with a group of friends for an early dinner off a recommendation. All six of us were extremely happy with the food and service! Not to mention amazing views too. The wine, appetizers, entrees and desserts were all amazing. Crab cakes were outstanding, filet and Rockfish too. Absolutely my favorite spot in Baltimore! Food, drinks, ambiance, and service were on point!

Excellent view. Great atmosphere. Good food and great cocktails. Friendly staff. Excellent crab dip and happy hour.

cute little spot - great view ! food was pretty good and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. wish the menu was more clear on what exactly is in the dish. also they should have a desert menu instead of the waiter having to repeat it. really like the spot , our waitress was a bit inappropriate in how she spoke to us but other than that it was nice. there's nice places to walk around and take it pictures in the immediate area- probably one of the only nice areas in Baltimore in my opinion read more

This is such a delicious restaurant and the food is always great! I have been here a couple of times, and every time, the food has been great. Especially sitting outside on the walkway or on the patio overlooking the water, you cant beat the views. The menu is small, but the food is delicious. However, the frustrating part about this restaurant is the service. The past couple of times I have visited, the service is very slow. Dinner takes about 2 and 1/2 total just to get seated, drinks and dinner. It's frustrating because the food is amazing, but sometimes do not have the patience to sit through a long dinner that should be sort. For example, the last time I was there, even though we had a reservation, we waited 30 minutes for a table. It was fine, because we sat at the outdoor bar and had a drink, but I was surprised by the long wait since we had a reservation. Once finally seated, our waiter didn't come greet us for about 15-20 minutes. He was we were good on drink, introduced himself, and said he would be back to take our order. We didn't see him for another 30 minutes. Once we finally ordered, we had finished our drinks and put in an order for more drinks. He didn't come back to out table for another 45 minutes, so we put in drinks (mind you, the dinner still hadn't come). After about an hour and 10 minutes, our dinner finally came, and our drinks came another 10 minutes after that. Like I said, the food and experience are amazing, but the slow service brings the stars down. If you have time to kill, then this would be a great dinner option. read more

We visited the kids in Baltimore. Friends recommended we try Ampersea for dinner, in Fells Point. It's on the water, with inside seating, and two levels of outdoor seating. We had drinks outside beforehand, then sat on the upper level across the water from Domino Sugar and UnderArmour. Food was amazing. Our waiter Lamont suggested we start with Oysters Casino and Blue Crab Dip. Both were delicious. For dinner, we ordered Steamed Shrimp and a perfectly cooked Dijon Salmon. Sitting on the water made all this seafood even better. read more

UPDATE...I definitely spoke too soon. We tried to make a reservation for 10 people for an important work dinner - this is the third time we were planning to bring a large group to this restaurant (that spends a lot of money!) I requested a table outside as we have in the past, since we are entertaining international clients and major executives and wanted to impress them with a beautiful view. They informed me we could not reserve the patio because it is in such high demand - which I totally understand, but it was still strange since that was never their policy before, and I had made outdoor reservations with no problem in the past. So with that in mind and due to our unique situation I requested an exception. Instead of offering to make things work or trying to find us a nice table inside, they talked to me like I was causing problems. I spoke to three separate people since they kept passing the phone off and I had to explain my request each time, and the final person I spoke with (the manager) was incredibly rude. He repeatedly accused me of threatening him when I mentioned other restaurants easily take reservations on their patios and Ampersea has taken outdoor reservations in the recent past. I kept repeating that I was not making threats, just trying to understand why they couldn't work with me but he was impossible to reason with. The customer service and the way they talked to a loyal/repeat customer was shocking and disappointing. I am never coming back, and neither is anyone else from my team. 100% would not recommend this place to anyone after this experience. Go to any one of Atlas Restaurant Group's places instead. read more

Highly disappointed in the food and service my girlfriends and I received yesterday. We had noon reservation for party of 5. Ali was our server he was very nice and tried his best. We were the only ones seated inside the restaurant. There were a few patrons seated outside. The entire time we were inside a gentleman was sitting at nearby table reading papers. When we placed our order we asked if one person could replace scrambled eggs with a fried egg. After about an hour of waiting, we realized people who came in after us had finished their meals. When we inquired about our food, the response we got was that it took longer because of our modifications. The only thing we requested was one fried egg. A few minutes went by our food came out cold and orders were mixed up. We requested to speak with the manager. The gentleman who had been sitting near us reading papers came over and introduced himself as the manager. The inside restaurant is very small and we were the only ones inside so I know he heard our conversations prior. His name was Lamont, he gave us no eye contact pulled up a chair to speak to us and was on his phone the entire time. One of my girlfriends sent back her seafood omlette that was cold. Lamont told us he would go talk with the kitchen and never came back. He sent our server back over to let us know he took her meal off like he was doing us a favor. So sad we can not support our local restaurants. read more

The view and the vibe were really the only things redeeming about this place. Despite not being crowded for brunch, the aloof staff, 90-minute wait for food, and inconsistently prepared and overpriced drinks made my first (and likely last) dining experience at Ampersea a terrible one. I'm happy to come back for their happy hours and outdoor bar area, but will not visit again for food. I really hope management gets it together; this place has incredible potential. read more

Had a very poor experience. Three filets at 3 different temperatures were ordered and were not cooked to the correct temperatures. When we expressed this to the server, what appeared to be the kitchen manager came out saying they were cooked correctly and he was not going to take it off the tab - when no one asked him to. He was very argumentative and unpleasant, wanting to continue the disagreement arguing that they were cooked correctly. Not only did he refuse to be helpful, he eventually agreed that ONE of the three filets weren't cooked correctly yet did not take an initiative to fix it. It was an embarrassing encounter and very unprofessional. read more
