On my list of Greatest Overall Spots. I rank Alegria Cocina Latina higher amongst all of my reviews with some bias because of specific memorable experiences here but aside from those moments it is one of the most fun, exciting and romantic establishments I've been to. We had come once when there was a live Spanish guitarist immersing us into the beautiful Spanish vibe while, we enjoyed the gracefully passionate movements of the flamenco dancer. Another time I'd come and it was like an upscale night club playing music you couldn't resist dancing with great energy flowing throughout the room. These were just a couple of the memorable visits, among others when we had indulged in delicious dinners with flavors from Spain and Argentina. We'll be back for more, without question. read more

I know this happened back in October, but this experience is still valid. The food and stuff was ok. Me and my friends went to go get breakfast and mimosa that Sunday. I went to the restroom with my girlfriend to do our restroom business and we almost immediately got the door pounded on us. I kept yelling at that is it being used, but the knocks kept on coming and louder and louder. After we were both done handling our business (maybe 5-10 minutes worth). I opened the door all irritated and just to find 5 or 6 workers waiting for us outside for no reason. I asked them what's the issue and they all went back doing their jobs with no answer. They probably thought we were doing something else besides going to the restroom, but the fact that they took the time and kept on knocking on the restroom door made us both uncomfortable. We went to restroom together to help cut on wait time of the restroom and for this to happen was totally uncalled for! The service itself was ok, they took awhile, but nothing too bad. I decided to not tip after the restroom experience and then later on the day. I got a facebook message from our server calling me a douchebag for not tipping him. Maybe he should take the time to ask his boss for a raise than taking the time to search me up on facebook and sending me that message. If these are the type of people Alegria hires, that tells a lot about them. The food isn't really worth going back too either way. The mimosa was limited even tho it said unlimited. read more

Perfect alternative to the Spanish place across the street that was closed for a private party. We were in the mood for a rare date night dinner and drink, specifically Paella and maybe some Sangria. Turns out that Alegria is a truly unique place that serves up what I call a pan-Latin American menu. Items from Spain, the Caribbean and all up and down from Mexico to Argentina and everything in between! After being overwhelmed a bit by selection I went with a Cuban drink (Mojito) and the before mentioned Paella! Mojito: Was strong and perfectly blended. Props to the Bar Tender who knows how to mix them. Paella: Though all the key ingredients where mixed in it (shell fish, chicken, rice etc) I felt mine to be a bit bland. Maybe I'm use to too much salt? I dont know? I powered through it regardless but I was a bit disappointed. Maybe yours will be better? It happens. Lomo Saltado: The popular, traditional Peruvian dish is what my wife had and that was perfect! Marinated right and served with fries and rice. Maybe the cook is Peruvian which would explain its awesomeness. lol MISC: The decor is brilliant and can be enjoyed as an intimate dinner or if you need to be festive with about 8-10 of your closets friends...Alegra is perfect. Service was friendly but could have been more attentive towards the end. We stared at our empty plates for a long time before they were bussed away to make room for dessert. Parking is tight in this part of Long Beach. I believe they do valet? Or use the huge lot across the street. OVERALL: I would absolutely come back to Alegria! It seems that their adjacent room becomes a dance club after 9 pm playing Salsa/Latin American music. I would also do a do-over on the Paella. Im sure the blandness was a fluke. The food service was terrible. Don't get me wrong the girl there serving drinks is pretty nice. But the bartenders GOD they took FOREVER to make two drinks bc they kept on yapping with everyone and the girl serving too. And don't get me started on the DJ. There is NO NEED to interrupt EVERY TIME the song is gonna hit a good part and come out with something inappropriate that none of the ppl there want to hear. This restroom lady let about 11 or 12 women in the Men's restroom. When I asked her why? She told the security to kick me out. We were waiting over half an hour for all of them to use it. I bounced to another spot on my own to use the restroom and enjoy my night. Please be careful coming here. If you complain about the smallest thing you will be kicked out. (This review is for Alegria club not the restaurant or food because Ive never been) I went to the club around 10, I did everything properly, sign myself and a friend in the guest list and go in time. Around 12 I wanted to go out to have a smoke. I asked a bouncer and he said yes, no problem. When we were going back inside a guy said it was $20 to go in. I explain that we were already inside (in fact we had our drinks on a table inside) he insisted, very rude and arrogant. We ended paying because our friends were inside. Oh! He said ill give you a 50% discount I guess he makes those extra dollars for his pocket. Not a bad business for him, but not a great look for the business. I couldn't get over so I went to the bouncer and ask him, maybe I miss understood. And he said, no no you are right I let you go outside to smoke and suddenly the guy who charged me the money saw me talking to the bouncer, came and said to me in Spanish: I'm the fucking boss and everyone will say what I want. His name (unless they lied) is Nicolas, he is from Argentina or Uruguay by his accent. I didn't want to ruin my friend's night so i stopped myself from making a scene but this is not ok. This strategy may work with drunk ppl, but I don't drink so Im very aware of everything that happened. Amazing experience from start to finish. Upon our arrival we were greeted by William the hostess. He was very polite and asked us where we wanted to sit. He advised that we could sit anywhere that we wanted. Once finding our table my boyfriend and I were provided with menus and Sunday brunch specials. We asked William what the most popular dishes were, any vegetarian plates and what do most people like to eat at Alegria. He was awesome by answering all of our questions and made our experience a very pleasant one. With a Yelp check in you are able to try one of the appetizers under $10. So make sure to check in and let your waiter know. I had the Ropa vieja con huevo. This is shredded beef with Plaintain's and an egg on top along with black beans and rice with a small side of cucumber salad. This traditional Cuban dish with a twist of the egg was delicious. Highly recommend! My boyfriend had the Spanish dish of the Paella championes. The portion on this dish is big. You could share this plate between two people. It is a vegetarian dish. For desert we tried the Flan con Fresas, which is flan with strawberries. I would definitely come back to Alegria due to the exceptional service we were provide by our hostess and waiter William. read more

Purchased the brunch with unlimited mimosas and sangria for two for $25 on Livingsocial which is a great deal and here's my feedback on my experience: Pro's - nice ambience inside and also has patio seating with heat lamps - our waiter was friendly, checked up on us every few minutes, made sure our sangrias were always filled, and also made some entree suggestions from the brunch menu - sangrias were good Con's - staff wasn't really clear to us on which table to sit at. When I asked to sit at a certain table I was told yes, then a few minutes later we were told to move to a different table due to a reservation. - they don't validate for garage parking, only valet parking Food: ordered the lomo Saltado, which is totally different from the lomo Saltado I usually have at Peruvian restaurants ...this one didn't have french fries and it was more saucy...but it was still good My overall experience was just ok ...The food wasn't as great as I hoped it would be. I came here to celebrate my cousin's college graduation. We came here on a Friday night around 8:30 pm and were seated at a table. At 10:00 they kicked us out because it turns into a nightclub and never told us! We were still eating and drinking and spent a lot of money. They did not let us stay nor did they ever warn us that we would have to leave by 10 even though the place is open until 2:00 am! The manager was unsympathetic and uncaring. That's horrible customer service. I would never go back and you should never give these people your business! read more

Our table had extra items on our bill from another table. Our table had an extra half craft of sangria on our bill that we never ordered or accepted... We tried to dispute the extra items and She said "Well, I brought out the extra wine for one of your tables." And we told her that we didnt have the 4th craft replaced she said "Well, I can't determine who drank it." My issue is that she had no issue splitting the bill three ways. But couldn't keep up with who ordered what and how to properly give the right items to the right table. And when it was brought to her attention, she deflected. The Brunch food was pretty good. Gotta love Yelp! Lunch crew couldn't decide where to go but Yelp came to the rescue and brought us to Alegria. Parking wasn't a big issue as there was a pay lot directly across the street OR a short walk to available street parking or in the nearby structures. Service was pretty good. Drinks were refilled and empty plates cleared. Food: I ordered the Alegria Pasta and initially, it was a little bland which surprised me considering all the visible ingredients in the dish. Added a little salt and it brought the flavors out - to the point I basically licked the plate clean. Note for both food and service: Our server came out with a quesadilla for me on the house because the kitchen made a mistake with my pasta dish. They didn't really have to because my dish came out about five minutes later but it was all good - shared my extra dish with the table. A complete scam. They charge you 25+ dollars for nothing. They are advertised as an 18+ night but do not allow 18+ to go on the dance floor and are instead forced to stand by the bar for the entirety of the night. They will take your money. Don't give them your money and don't give them your time. Nothing more than a scam to make as much money as possible. Super shady and the bouncers were incredibly mean despite the fact that we had done nothing wrong. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

Delicioso! And the best part was not paying! Tom and I came here with some work friends (with an expense account) and had a great experience. The nice thing about coming here with a group is getting to try all the different appetizers - Calamares Al Fuego, Empanadas De Pollo, and much more! They were all good but my favorite was the Pa Amb Tomate Al Horno which was a bruschetta style bread with tomatoes and tasty roasted corn. I had the Madrid Style Caesar Salad which was a really good Caesar salad with spicy marinated tomatoes. For my entree, Paella Del Oceano, with mussels, fish, clams and calamari. But after all those appetizers and the salad, the Paella was going home to the fridge! We used the Groupon deal to check this place out on a whim. I thought a bit of Spanish dancing would rekindle my fond memories of traveling through Spain. But my dream was short lived when I saw the bill I Would have given this 1 star but the manager saw sense and discounted us somewhat. Tickets for the "show" was $40 each, which included a 3 course meal. Drinks were extra (we knew this prior). *****this rating is for the night life only***** This is one of the smallest and most crowded bar I've ever been to. I came to celebrate my friend's birthday. When I first walked in I was pretty surprised at how small it is. As the night proceeded it got super duper crowded and hot in there. I'm not even sure if they had the AC on. They should definitely limit the amount of people that come in during the night. You cannot dance without bumping into someone. Also, the bathroom line is ridiculous. My friend was gone for about 40 min trying to make line for the bathroom. The bar itself also feels kind of dirty. As for the drinks, I liked my margarita but was shocked they did not have Jack Daniels. However, I did enjoy the music and the DJ. I just wish the televisions playing music videos actually matched the music the DJ was playing. Overall, this bar is a big no for me, at least for the nighttime. I will not be coming back here ever.
