I accidentally purchased this dinner show package from Goupon. We decided to go ahead and go, money already spent. We arrived early sat at the bar and had a sangria and shared an appetizer. Both were delicious. The restaurant itself is very old, but I figured it's part of the charm. But I'd you take a good look around you realize the restaurant needs to be shut down and scrubbed with soap and water. The dinner show area was a covered patio with fan, no AC! The stage is merely a wooden box. The menu is a pre-fix menu with 3 main courses. My husband picked the Paella and I chose the chicken. His dish had almost NO flavor. This restaurant is absolutely disrespectful to Long Beach community residents. Like all other restaurants/bars statewide, Allegria has had to resort to take out for many months which has affected their business model; however, their customers who support their continued business also live around right around them. At 1am they are blasting music into the street with no concern for the residents (and customers) who live around them. Long Beach PD states they have received multiple noise complaints tonight regarding this business and yet the management continues to ignore the requests to turn down the club music, which is just blasting into the streets. On top of that they are encouraging behavior which will lead to continue spread of the virus which prevents us from having some sense of normalcy. Shame on you Allegria for being a nuisance neighbor and potential super-spreader of COVID19. read more

Tried to change things up a bit and went to have dinner in Long Beach. We were craving good paella and after yelping around a bit, all roads lead to this place. Alegria is located in the heart of downtown Long Beach, right where all the hype is happening. So we made reservations and off we went. There are a couple of self parking structure around the area, and there's also valet in front of the restaurant but your best bet is to find parking on the street. It's free after 9pm anyway. Right when you walk in, you immediately see the pretty make at lights and hear the live Spanish music coming from inside. The whole place has a very Spanish, laid back feel to it. We were seated right away and our waiter came back quickly to take our drink order - we decided to stick to water since we were about to eat some very flavorful dishes. After bringing our waters, we ordered some guacamole sign chips and Ropita Vieja, which is a tortilla chips with pulled pork and cheese and other herbs on top, as appetizers. We asked our waiters for some suggestions for paella and he suggested the Paella Oceano, which is made from different types of fish. He also suggested we order their shrimp spinach over rice dish. So we ordered both! While we waited for our main dishes, we enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere, the soft Spanish music and all the hype that was going on on the main street. I must say, Ropita Vieja was extremely tender and flavorful and the guacamole was very fresh and homemade like. At last, the paella came out and it stole the show. Not only it looked great, it tasted even better. The shrimp, squid, scallops, and etc were all so perfectly cooked and they all worked so well with the rice and bell peppers. The shrimp dish was also very tasty and the sauce the coated the shrimp was very unique and delicious. The great thing about Alegria is also the Yelp deals they offer. $15 for $30 deals and free appetizers when you check in. So be sure to check those out. Last Christmas, I baked us a ham But the very next day, we threw the leftovers away This year, to save my family from my cooking I'll take them to Alegria! I hope you all like my remix of George Michael's song "Last Christmas", I worked hard on it. This year, my girlfriend and I were nominated by her father to host Christmas Eve dinner. Since it was only going to be four of us, my girl, her dad, her grandma, and myself, and since my girl and I are both novices in the kitchen, we figured we would just take her family out to dinner. Well, my girl and I were both extremely busy the week leading into Christmas, so at the last minute we were frantically searching to find a restaurant close by that would be open on Christmas Eve and also take last minute reservations. After searching on Yelp, I found Alegria, which is only about 30 yards from our place and was able to give us a last minute reservation for Christmas Eve. The four of us arrived at Alegria about ten minutes before our designated time, and to our surprise they already had our table set, so we were immediately seated. Right after we were seated they took our drink orders and brought us some of their delicious complimentary parmesan cheese bread. After we polished off the bread, we order some chicken empanadas to share. These amazing empanadas were huge and packed full of juicy, marinated chicken and vegetables. The spicy tomato sauce that accompanied the empanadas was also great. That night, besides their regular menu, they also offered a three course dinner menu. My girl and I ordered off the special menu, and her family ordered off the regular menu. Here is what we all ordered: ME- My dinner started off with a fruit and walnut salad, with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The entrée I got was a Latin version of meat lasagna. It contained homemade four tortillas, beans, three types of cheeses, and seasoned ground beef in a delicious orange chipotle tomato sauce. GF- She also started with a fruit and walnut salad. Her entrée contained a huge piece of marinated chicken that was covered with cheese and drenched in a bell pepper cream sauce. Jalapeño mashed potatoes, carrots, and sautéed spinach accompanied the chicken. GF'S Dad- Her dad ordered the Fideos Con Chipotle, which is sautéed spaghetti with chicken, sun dried tomatoes, field mushrooms, and green onions in a chipotle cream sauce topped with feta cheese. GF'S Grandma- Her granny ordered a dish called El Gaucho, which was grilled marinated tender beef that was covered in chimichury sauce. This dish was also came with sautéed spinach and roasted potatoes. Every single entrée that night was phenomenal, I know because we all passed around our plates so we could all try everything. Since my girl and I both ordered off the special three course menu, we also got two pieces of chocolate tres leches cake for dessert. This cake was amazing and was the perfect was to end a perfect Christmas Eve dinner. The service at Alegria was amazing. The whole time we were there we were treated like royalty. I was very impressed with our waiter because he was very upbeat, friendly, and funny, even though he had to work until 10pm on Christmas Eve. This place has some pretty good food. Their skirt steak with chilaquiles and potatoes were delicious. You also can't beat their $10.00 bottomless mimosas. Their $10 tamales or as they call it "Humitas Chilenas" (sweet corn tamale filled/topped with a shrimp creamy mix) was one of my favorites. My only issue was the gentleman that helped us. Unfortunately I didn't get his name. He totally made sure to correct every word we said. I'm Mexican/Salvadorian so we call some things different than other Latinos, and it didn't help that we didn't have a menu in front of us to give you the correct "name" of the dish we were inquiring about. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Long Beach. It has good seafood, decent tapas, and the ambiance is excellent. I took my daughter here once when she was a child and she loved it. She gobbled up the sliced Spanish ham (sliced super thin). Back then they had special nights with live Flamenco. Check for the nights that they still do this - it is worth it. I give this place an extra star for this offering. Paella was okay. But not as good as in Spain, and more expensive. Real Spanish Paella is a work of art that has not been matched (in my book) in the US. Kind of like Chicago Deep Dish Pizza outside of Chicago. I am conflicted about this restaurant. The food was very good and they have a great happy hour but it's empty. I have a feeling it has to do with the service. Ours wasn't so great. With a completely empty dining room, we spent a lot of time waiting to place orders, to get our plates cleared, for more water, and to place more orders for drinks. Who is making sure the servers are checking on their tables? I wouldn't know. All we saw was the host and the server. We came in to try out Dine out long beach 2.0. The menu here had a great selection. We definitely got the most bang for our buck here. All the food we had was delicious. I especially liked the shrimp ceviche. It was the favorite of the night. In close second was the chimichurri steak. So herby and garlicy! Yum. Even the desert was good. The chocolate mousse had a Spanish twist to it. A little cinnamon, and the fresh strawberries mixed in just made this a great ending to our meal. Too bad the service here sucks. I'd give this place 5 stars for the food but 2 stars on service. Fucking yum. I drove down to Long Beach last Thursday with the intent of hanging out with one of my close girl friends after her shift as the best bartender in town. Homegirl was hungry. After a failed attempt to get ANY attention or menus from the bartender at Seville, we decided to try another Latin inspired menu for our night of girl talk and female bonding. We strolled over to Alegria on that beautiful night, asking for a table in the empty patio so to enjoy the breeze. Our server was very sweet. I like to make it a practice to ask for advice when faced with the indecisiveness a great menu brings... The Mojitos Tropicales were quite nice....gave the evening that fuzzy glow of happiness. Then we tried some light dinner, after all, nothing kills a night out like a overly full tummy. She had the tortilla soup that was very nice. The waitress, in her infinite wisdom, suggested I try the Tiraditos. My my my. Ahi Tuna, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Onions and a lime fennel sauce. A lively restaurant with great food! The location is decent sized, and they also have a large patio area. And at certain time they have a live band playing and dancing by the bar area. The service is polite and friendly. Though the servers can disappear at times. I guess that's because this place has so many turns and blind spots its hard for them to see everyone? Anyway, the food here is pretty good. I love sun dried tomato, so my favorite here is the Fideos con Chitpole. The sauce is fantastic and its also got a nice kick to it spice-wise. They also have a pretty large drink menu since this restaurant doubles as a bar. The decor and ambiance, along with the band is quite lively. Came here to celebrate a good friend's bday and had a great experience. Here are the highlights: Libations: Famous housemade Alegria Sangria. It's sweet, tasty, and filled with fresh fruits. Red wine- I believe we ordered some type of Merlot, forgot the name though. Appetizer: Ceviche De Camaron- Fresh chopped shrimp in a citrus lime juice with mango, pico de gallo, and jalepenos served with chips and plaintains. (My friend and I both ordered this dish) The steak was medium rare just how I like it. It was tender and juicy with lots of great flavors and cooked perfectly. Ropa Vieja-braised marinated beef Cuban style, served over a bed of white rice and red beans, with plantain. I didn't get to taste this but I'm sure it's good since friend finished the entire plate. Today was our first time coming here and I was very happy. The waiters name was Mario and he was very attentive throughout our visit. He recommended an appetizer that was a corn tamale with shrimp and more corn. It was delicious!! The sangria was a little bitter for me and I asked to cancel and have a mojito instead. I didn't go with the dineLA menu but instead got the spicy garlic shrimp plate, served with rice and spinach. The food had good flavors and it came out fast. The ropa vieja was saucy and tender. They added cheese crumbles on top of their meat which was different and tasty! The shrimp was cooked well on my spicy garlic shrimp plate. Really disappointed. Came here on a Friday night during DineLA. We got our table pretty quick. At first, I liked how they set the mood - good lighting, music, decor. But then later the music got really loud. Couldn't tell if it was live music over the speakers, but if it was live music, the front of the restaurant wouldn't be able to see around the corner, so it was all just noise that I couldn't talk over. So on the DineLA menu, I saw the ceviche, I saw paella, fish, chicken... So I thought it was gonna be a great meal. Sigh... Shrimp Ceviche - Chips were cold, soggy, and felt stale. The salsa had some shrimps, but I didn't get any of the bright flavors and the seafood tastes I expect from a ceviche. Humitas Chilenas - Pretty decent tamale. It was sweet, with that creamy sauce and shrimps. I liked this dish. Guava Barbeque Chicken - Okay I honestly don't know why I ordered this dish. Maybe it was the "steak potatoes" I saw on the menu. But when they brought it out, I was disgusted. It looked like a kid's meal - a couple pieces of Tyson frozen chicken breast heated up served with little french fries. Seriously... a 10 year old could probably prepare this with a microwave. The chicken had this sauce and didn't really taste like anything. And ... the french fries. I wanted big fat steak potatoes. But I got little fries. These are not steak potatoes. So mad. Paella Valenciana - Lots of meat in this dish - clams, mussels, fish, sausages, chicken. Had a couple bites - tasted okay. Flan - Finally ... Dessert. A few small pieces of flan cutted up into thirds. I believe it was a Sunday night, so parking was readily available down the street. The place was also empty besides a few patrons here and there. The atmosphere is dark and classic but very clean. I actually liked it very much. Browsing through the menu, one drink caught my eye. The chelada! Hands down my favorite drink and not too many places have it on the menu. The bloody beer concoction was savory and delicious. The sangria here is excellent. I know that because Sarah emptied 2 glasses. I decided on the Pollo En Mole for my entree. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The mole sauce was on the sweeter side. I don't like my mole too sweet. The portion was more than enough for me. The portions are big enough for two people. Like the waiter said "too much food for one person". I decided to try the Ropa Vieja which is shredded beef on top of fried plantains served with a side of cucumber and tomatoes diced and black beans mixed with rice. It was absolutely delicious. Food: I looked all of the Yelp pictures twice to find a meal that looked appetizing. I was stuck between one of a "Chicken Special" and "The Gaucho". Both looked good, but that Chicken Special had won me over. So as we ordered, I whipped out my Yelp app, and showed the waitress the picture of the Chicken Special and basically said "What is it? I want it! Can I have it?!?" She said it was a random special, and she wan't sure if they had all the ingredients for it that day but she would ask. Eventually (See, "Service") I ended up going with the Gaucho. The rest of our party got the Mole Enchiladas except for one that got that night's chicken special. (some stuffed chicken breast). As far as I can tell, everyone was pleased with their meals. Out of everyone's food, I have to say that the stuffed chicken was the best. My Gaucho (breaded steak with chimichurri) was cold (See, SERVICE. ) and a bit too salty for my taste. The chimichurri truly saved the plate. But other than that, it was average. I also might add that my drinks were really weak. I got 3 midori sours and it seemed like each was even more watered down than the previous one. Even after requesting it to be a little stronger. This review is for the night life. The place get's really crowded I went inside with a group of 7 (I roll deep) we were charge $10 for the guy & girls $5. Women always getting discounts I tell you. I was dancing for 2 minutes & I was dying.I was sweating really bad but it wasn't just me it was everyone.I don't think Alegria believes in A/C we stopped dancing & left to the restaurant section. Gave some girl a lap dance started signing Happy Birthday with some random people & had a good time. They play Spanish music like salsa with a live group.During the break they have a DJ playing English. There's some very good looking women @ Alegria just throwing it out there fellas. I didn't drink that night I can't tell you the pricing on the drinks this time. But what I can tell you is the surroundings. SURROUNDINGS: Across the street you have Sevillas entrance on Saturdays is $20 Then you have Moonshiners I believe that's the name. Lesbian night on Saturdays I was tempted to go since I'm a lesbian I love women :) They have Valet Parking for $10 There's also a 7/11 on the corner left. The spot to enjoy Sunday brunch is here. Came in on a Sunday right at 11am as they were opening. I made a Open Table reservation but if you get in line early enough you should be alright. We're sat down and we went for the bottomless mimosas y sangria. Both delicious no doubt but the sangria was strong, watch your glass intake. Went with the gaucho plate which had a nice piece of steak and potatoes in olive oil, it was so outstanding that my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The empanadas were good as well, tried one and a perfect blend of meat and pastry. Do yourself a favor and stop by and experience this place. BTW I actually bought a Living Social voucher but paying full price is worth it. Parking around the corner across from the metro station is $5 bucks for all day. read more

A group of us came here for a Christmas party for dinner. The waiter was excellent accommodating all of our requests. The atmosphere was good and I liked the colorful tile and artwork on the walls- added some energy and authenticity to this place. We had the ceviche for appetizers and it was good-nothing spectacular. I ordered the El Gaucho, which is marinated beef but I found it to be a tad salty. Nevertheless, it was pretty tasty otherwise. For dessert, the tres leches hit the spot although I had very little room to fit it in. What I didn't like was the sangria- I found it much too sweet. The extensive wine list more than made up for it as we had the very good Malbec and the recommended Rioja. read more
