I came here with my cousins on a Saturday night for the Flamenco and dinner show. We were seated right away. We had prepaid for the dinner and Flamenco show so we had a set menu to choose from. We started off with a white sangria which we all enjoyed. The meal started with a salad that was good but had a little too much onion (and I love onion!). For the main dishes we had the paella and the chicken. My sister doesn't eat seafood and they were able to substitute the paella with just chicken and veggies. It was ok/ good. The other paella was also ok/good. They weren't bad at all but they just didn't stand out. The chicken was really good. The only problem was that it was so dark in the room and I couldn't see what I was eating. Wish I could of had more of the cream that came underneath the chicken. The desserts were fine. We had the churros and ice cream and the banana flame. We enjoyed the show and it was worth the price for the dinner and show. We parked around the corner and it was convenient to walk to. We stayed after for the club and it was fun. We had shots and danced all night. read more

We lost a phone in the restroom and luckily someone turned it in to the staff. I asked a bartender if anyone had turned a phone in, and she stated the employee in front of the restrooms had it. I went to go ask the employee and she confirmed she had my phone. Rather than asking me to unlock the phone to prove it was mine, she points to the tip jar. I asked her if she was really holding my phone hostage for cash. She responded with "I didn't have to say someone turned it in." I told her if she'd like I can come back with the manager and put it out for everyone to hear that she was refusing to give me my property unless I paid her cash. She still hesitated, which I then threatened to call police and press charges. She finally gave it back, but I was very disappointed it got to this point. We were having a great time until this happened. Can't believe this establishment has people like that working there. Left an awful taste for the night and probably won't ever come back. read more

This is our spot!!!! We come here for our special occasions my wife and I. However we heard some recent reviews and decided that we needed to see for ourselves if they are accurate and true. We arrived during the Sunday brunch and were seated right away. My wife ordered a Bloody Mary that was so good she ordered a second one. We both ordered the shrimp dish that is our favorite and go to item on the menu. We also ordered the ceviche and the hangover fries from the brunch menu. The ceviche was good with good size pieces of seafood which is a plus. It also comes with Plantain chips which were quite tasty. The fries were good with the sauces and short ribs mixed in. However, the rumors were true that the shrimp plate that we order is just not the same. The shrimp did not taste the same as if something was missing. They changed the white rice for Mexican rice which was ok, but just better with white rice. And they changes the sautéed spinach for arugula salad. It was just a disappointment to us. We spoke to the wait about it and hopefully they tell management and they get it back on track. Lastly, you got to clean the restrooms. Was not busy and they were nasty. This place makes $$$ there's no doubt about that. I love the ambiance the music and the staff. BUT RESTROOMS ARE A HUGE PROBLEM HERE! There is one stall for women and 1 for men with a urinal and toilet so there's two men in the restroom at once to kill the line a little. There's a lady handing out paper towels and i guess controlling the line (which is total chaos) As we're waiting she starts waving her tip jar in our faces. As men and women dry their hands with the towels she's handing them; they toss them on the floor and she kicks them to the corner of the wall. Not once does she grab a broom. I witnessed a good 40 minutes of this. Bcus the line was so long (remember: 1 stall) So i finally go in the women's restroom and the sink is totally clogged up with water and vomit. The lady never bothered cleaning it. The entire hall way leading up the restroom had a stinging scent of piss. RIDICULOUS! Oh and no toilet paper no seat covers ! Being in those restrooms makes you feel like your in a Quentin Tarantino movie about being in a bar in TJ. Seriously tho! One last thing; after waiting in line for a while we ended up buying two bottles and a 12 pack of beers which costs $100 (just the 12pack) Whatever that's not the problem; the issue was that in order to get the bottle service. We literally had to wait outside for 20 additional minutes. It was insane! I wouldn't want to visit this place again. Little inconveniences like this can ruin your whole night. I went to the Sunday Brunch and Day Party specifically. The reason why I give it a 5 Star is because I personally like the musical mix of cultures. I heard 90s R&B and Hip Hop of course but at the same time you hear Reggae, Afro Beat, and surprise-surprise the DJ played Soca Music. The Latin music is not just Bad Bunny and more Bad Bunny. They played Cumbia, Merengue, Bachata, and Carrillo. So for me the best part of the day was feeling like I was experiencing a collage of cultures. Not just eating food and hearing the same music I hear on Friday and Saturday nights. I ate the Steak and Eggs with the Bottomless Mimosa. The presentation of the food was very good. You could still see the steam coming from the steak. Whew... They cooked my eggs to order. I like scrambled eggs. It didn't take forever to get my food. Most importantly, I wasn't rushed to leave or over sold for more food. The staff is very friendly and the waitress worked really hard to make me feel happy. I have to give Stephanie credit for that. I will never be going back to Alegria. DO NOT GO AFTER 10 PM. I have only ever gone for drinks and dancing so this review does not reflect the food or waitstaff. My most recent trip to Alegria I had my phone and wallet stolen out of my purse. I noticed my belongings were stolen within 10 minutes and immediately looked around the area to make sure it hadn't somehow fallen out then went to the bouncer to see if anyone had returned a phone or wallet, they replied that NINE OTHER PEOPLE HAD THEIR PHONES STOLEN THAT NIGHT ALONE. I understand that these things can happen, but when the staff and security know this is a problem, I would hope it would be addressed with adequate security to mitigate the issue. Instead I was met with an aloof attitude that it was somehow my fault that my property was stolen out of my zipped shoulder bag. Terrible experience that left a bad taste in my mouth, I will not choose to continue to spend my money at this establishment that clearly does not care about its patrons. read more

During our next trip, we came with the family (mom, bro, sis, and Mini). We ordered the nachos, calamari, and seafood paella. For drinks, my sis had the mojito, and my mom had sangria. The nachos were AMAZING! Just about all of the chips were covered with the ingredients. My only critique would be that more chorizo is added. I've had the nachos on two separate visits, and each time - not enough chorizo. - 4.5 stars Seafood Paella - wow! The rice was cooked to perfection, and the seafood was perfect. The paella was perfectly seasoned; and, in my opinion, can be shared with others (two or three max). - 5 stars Calamari - here again, this dish was good. The calamari wasn't chewy or overcooked. Spanish food is not something I typically frequent, but living in downtown really gives a lot of exposure to the cuisine. At night, the restaurant turns into something of a club. I have not been inside for it, but I was eating dinner once when it was converting to the night life. A lot of people seem to come here for that. Anyway, I have only sat outside. The weather in downtown is so nice, so why not enjoy it and the scene while eating? They are also dog-friendly, which is awesome for dog owners who do not want to leave their dogs at home. Food and service have been really great the several times I have been here since I made downtown my home. I usually order the ceviche, which is usually on point. The paella is also good and much more affordable than the restaurant across the street. I have also had their nachos, which was also good, but I am more of a ceviche person when eating here. I have been here often since moving, and that means I like the place, so I would certainly recommend it to my friends. read more

We started with ropa vieja tostadas... the tortillas were clearly fresh, the meat was tender and the flavors were ON POINT! The Solomillo I ordered was medium rare, cooked perfectly, with mushrooms and spinach; it was fantastic. My partner ordered the steak with chimichurri ( i cant remember the name) but it was also great, specifically the chimichurrri! Came here for Mother's Day with some of my girls (who had arrived two hours before i) my girls waited 30 min to be asked to take their order. I found that the sauce on the fajitas was a little salty for my taste, so I will have to try something else the next time I come here. The interior is bright and colorful. The staff are all very friendly and on top of it, visiting my table frequently. The place was pretty empty. Yelp and their own website state that the restaurant hours start at five during the week, but every time I would pass by the restaurant, there was a hostess standing in front and a lunch menu posted. 5 of us bought dinner/Flamenco Show for last night. Show started at 8pm, by 10pm we were being rushed to stand up or that we had to buy bottle service minimum of $250 to be able to continue sitting down. By this time we had spent about $700 in 2 hours. We had someone with a bad knee and they told us they couldn't do anything about it. So they were happy with our $700+ consumption in 2 hours and didn't care to accommodate us. We were ready to spend at least $1,000 more....but with that attitude in which they rushed us to either stand up or buy a $250 bottle they killed our vibe. This was one of our favorite spots for years!!!! Till this past weekend: we get there for some ropita vieja and drinks, casual setting just the two of us. We get seated quickly because it's Sunday, all good middle of the day. Our server takes FOREVER to come. Whatever, we're talking so it's ok, they ask us a second time has someone came to help. Answer again is NO. Anyway finally out comes our server, sounds a little weird but whatever...... we order 2 drinks one appetizer, we have to repeat ourselves about 4 or 6 times! She's writing, crossing out, writing asking then repeating what she wrote , rewriting because it wasn't what we said and so on. Leaves a few minutes, comes back to ask us to repeat the order!!! ='0 finally comes back, spills our drink a little, mind you I almost laughed in her face because she was fkn sounding dumb!. Anyhow I asked my husband is this girl drunk or wtf?? We don't see her for a while a couple other workers come check on us, WE'RE over it, my dish is missing an ingredient which they seemed to have ran out of. Ok, so then we're already moving on thinking of where else to take our business, no one comes, we keep waiting. FINALLY a nice young lady comes and we order the check immediately. She apologizes because obviously there was a problem. I mentioned yeah your Sever is drunk or what? Otherwise I would still be driving 30 miles to this spot. The tacos dorados are good but yall skimp on the guacamole and don't have mole sauce which made these amazing. Otherwise, they're just OK. Pretty pricey tho. Mixed drinks were weak and expensive. The sangria is ok. Not sure if they still have that tho. The food is damned good tho. Been coming here for well over 5 years. Bring the mole back. Adding that as a side for chips n dip or a side for the tacos dorados would be Ace. Stop removing the best items from the menu! Be careful here. The security is so aggressive and on a serious power trip. One of them pushed me out of the way as I was walking to the patio then proceeded to follow me out and get in my face to tell me he was doing his job. If you are in line for the ONE single bathroom, security will yell at you to get out so their VIP guest can skip the line. Security was about to fight a guy for telling him it was unfair. Finally, if you are sitting at a table in the patio, they will come up to you and aggressively tell you to "Get the f*** up" so their guests can sit down when those tables are for everyone. This place usually doesn't have a girls and boys restroom until after hours when the DJ plays that's when the restroom tendent comes and makes her own restroom rules. She let's people cut in line when the lines are already super long. She takes all the toilet paper out of the restrooms so she can monitor who get toilet paper. The restroom tendent is ridiculous there is only 2 toilets. Not to mention the bathrooms are filthy. The place is over crowded. My friends went outside to get air and one of the workers wouldn't let them back in. There was over 10 of us inside and they were trying to make them pay $15 to go back inside. The drinks cost about $15 for a mixed drink. Most of the staff are rude and have no customer service experience. Not to mention I saw a cockroach. This review is for the SANGRIA ONLY. The white sangria tastes like perfumed water and there's a single piece of strawberry in it. The bartender was nice but disappointed in quality of sangria at a Cocina Latina. Also I would recommend putting the fruit in with tongs as we witnessed her long acrylic nails reaching into the jar of raspberries to plop into only one of our glasses, strangely enough. The bill was charged wrong, $9/glass instead of $5, but the amount was addended and we paid HH pricing. Hope that reflects in my cc charges. read more

One of our group got the fajitas, and they were tender enough, but it was seriously way heavy on the seasoning (not just salt, but everything). On my list of Greatest Overall Spots. I rank Alegria Cocina Latina higher amongst all of my reviews with some bias because of specific memorable experiences here but aside from those moments it is one of the most fun, exciting and romantic establishments I've been to. We had come once when there was a live Spanish guitarist immersing us into the beautiful Spanish vibe while, we enjoyed the gracefully passionate movements of the flamenco dancer. Another time I'd come and it was like an upscale night club playing music you couldn't resist dancing with great energy flowing throughout the room. These were just a couple of the memorable visits, among others when we had indulged in delicious dinners with flavors from Spain and Argentina. We'll be back for more, without question. read more

I know this happened back in October, but this experience is still valid. The food and stuff was ok. Me and my friends went to go get breakfast and mimosa that Sunday. I went to the restroom with my girlfriend to do our restroom business and we almost immediately got the door pounded on us. I kept yelling at that is it being used, but the knocks kept on coming and louder and louder. After we were both done handling our business (maybe 5-10 minutes worth). I opened the door all irritated and just to find 5 or 6 workers waiting for us outside for no reason. I asked them what's the issue and they all went back doing their jobs with no answer. They probably thought we were doing something else besides going to the restroom, but the fact that they took the time and kept on knocking on the restroom door made us both uncomfortable. We went to restroom together to help cut on wait time of the restroom and for this to happen was totally uncalled for! The service itself was ok, they took awhile, but nothing too bad. I decided to not tip after the restroom experience and then later on the day. I got a facebook message from our server calling me a douchebag for not tipping him. Maybe he should take the time to ask his boss for a raise than taking the time to search me up on facebook and sending me that message. Perfect alternative to the Spanish place across the street that was closed for a private party. We were in the mood for a rare date night dinner and drink, specifically Paella and maybe some Sangria. Turns out that Alegria is a truly unique place that serves up what I call a pan-Latin American menu. Items from Spain, the Caribbean and all up and down from Mexico to Argentina and everything in between! After being overwhelmed a bit by selection I went with a Cuban drink (Mojito) and the before mentioned Paella! Mojito: Was strong and perfectly blended. Props to the Bar Tender who knows how to mix them. Paella: Though all the key ingredients where mixed in it (shell fish, chicken, rice etc) I felt mine to be a bit bland. Maybe I'm use to too much salt? I dont know? I powered through it regardless but I was a bit disappointed. Maybe yours will be better? It happens. Lomo Saltado: The popular, traditional Peruvian dish is what my wife had and that was perfect! Marinated right and served with fries and rice. Maybe the cook is Peruvian which would explain its awesomeness. lol MISC: The decor is brilliant and can be enjoyed as an intimate dinner or if you need to be festive with about 8-10 of your closets friends...Alegra is perfect. Service was friendly but could have been more attentive towards the end. We stared at our empty plates for a long time before they were bussed away to make room for dessert. Parking is tight in this part of Long Beach. I believe they do valet? Or use the huge lot across the street. OVERALL: I would absolutely come back to Alegria! (This review is for Alegria club not the restaurant or food because Ive never been) I went to the club around 10, I did everything properly, sign myself and a friend in the guest list and go in time. Around 12 I wanted to go out to have a smoke. I asked a bouncer and he said yes, no problem. When we were going back inside a guy said it was $20 to go in. I explain that we were already inside (in fact we had our drinks on a table inside) he insisted, very rude and arrogant. We ended paying because our friends were inside. Oh! He said ill give you a 50% discount I guess he makes those extra dollars for his pocket. Not a bad business for him, but not a great look for the business. I couldn't get over so I went to the bouncer and ask him, maybe I miss understood. And he said, no no you are right I let you go outside to smoke and suddenly the guy who charged me the money saw me talking to the bouncer, came and said to me in Spanish: I'm the fucking boss and everyone will say what I want. His name (unless they lied) is Nicolas, he is from Argentina or Uruguay by his accent. I didn't want to ruin my friend's night so i stopped myself from making a scene but this is not ok. This strategy may work with drunk ppl, but I don't drink so Im very aware of everything that happened.
