    Lomo Saltado

This place looked so sketchy, but I'm finding that those are the best establishments to get the most authentic experience. Also it was a short walk from where we were staying and seemed like a good idea to get our steps in before we stuffed ourselves. If you speak Spanish, you're golden here. If not, it may be a bit challenging, but the server we encountered was so nice, she even tried to use google translate to communicate with us. Btw, their website online only shows they have a few items, don't let that deter you. They have a bigger menu in person. Our server brought us a bowl of different chips as an appetizer. Wasn't necessary, but everyone gobbled them up. Started ordering and was a little disappointed as they didn't have the arroz con pollo (even though we called in advance to ask), but the lomo saltado was available, so we opted for that and the frijole (beans) and pollo (chicken) pupusas. My niece ordered the ceviche and when we received our food (very quickly), we were really impressed at the quality on the flavors and the sizes of the dishes. If you go, make sure to order the lomo saltado. It has so much flavor and the fries, that were drenched in the sauce, were a nice addition. The ceviche was made with fish, not shrimp, and my niece loved it. the pupusas were fine, but we would have rather had the arroz con pollo, had it been available. We also tried the pineapple and strawberry tamales. They were a bit dry, but I think if it had been served with some sort of cream, it would have solved the problem. All in all, I don't think there was a morsel left on anyone's plate. Oh one note, the prices are reasonable, but I wouldn't order the coke and jarritos again. Those were $6 a bottle and because the soda fountains were out of commission, we opted for those without knowing the price, until we received our bill. They also charge for water, just an fyi. 3 stars for the pricey sodas, charging for water, and not having the arroz con pollo, even though we had called for it in advance. Maybe it was the walk that did it, but because everything was so tasty, we'd most likely come back again... I'm bringing my own drinks though.

Quick and delicious food. Very generous proportions. Family friendly. We are definitely coming back.

    Aji de gallina

I lived in Peru, and this food took me right back there! The aji de gallina was creamy, the Chicha was refreshing, and the salchipapas were just like they were back in Peru. If you're looking for authentic Peruvian food in Utah, this is the place! Tia Magaly was very helpful and nice, she was attentive, and made great conversation. The place is a real hole in the wall, it's hard to see from the road but once you come inside and eat the food it's awesome. Bring your friends!

    Yummy lomo saltado

First time coming since the change in ownership and it was amazing I was very impressed. I ordered a lomo saltado, it was probably one of the best lomos I've ever had, and the food was very authentic. The service is very friendly and the owner came out and talked to us. The environment is very welcoming and authentic. Also the prices better than some other Peruvian places I've tried. I will definitely be coming back and bringing the fam.

The left is the pupusa from the previous owner, the sauce is thick and rich. On the right you can't even tell there is sauce on it.

The rotisserie chicken was so juicy and had so much flavor. I loved dipped it in the green sauce. I also enjoyed the Peruvian friend rice and all of the flavor that came with it. The fries were also homemade, crispy, and not super oily at all. The beef was seasoned great and had a lot of good flavor. Everything was super flavorful and tasty. It looks like they are expanding so I hope they make it a nicer interior! Overall, I will be back and I definitely recommend!

I went to the Provo location tonight, never been there before. Pros, it was fast. Less than 10 min for our food. Cons, the food was sooooooo disappointing. Worst Lomo saltado I've ever had. Tough beef almost unchewable, weird undercooked rice and no juice or sauce. Usually that yummy flavorful sauce is all over but nope. The chick was okay, still flavorful. The sides were disgusting. My kids wouldn't eat the plantains for the yucca even though they've loved them in the past, and to be honest I didn't want to eat it either. Don't know if they've gone downhill in the last year or if it's just this location but major disappointment

Beware of this restaurant, extremely dishonest management…read more The management at this location deserves zero stars. If you are using a coupon, be prepared to be misled and treated poorly. We used a Starving Student coupon before at the Provo location without any issues. This time, we used the same coupon at the Orem location. The deal clearly states Buy 1 entrée, get 1 free (saving $17.99), as shown in the screenshots. We ordered two half-chicken entrées. The cashier scanned the coupon, charged us, and told us the wait time would be about 20 minutes. At no point were we told there were any restrictions. After waiting 20 minutes, the cashier brought out the food and then informed us that "the boss's mom said" that because we used a coupon, we were only allowed ¼ chicken, not half. This was never disclosed when we ordered, and directly contradicts both the coupon and our previous experience at the Provo location. We were told this was a "new rule." This is misleading, dishonest, and false advertising. I asked to speak directly with the boss's mom, but she refused to come out and instead hid in the kitchen, sending the employee to act as a mediator. We were then told she "doesn't speak English." Ironically, my husband speaks Spanish and suddenly she was "too busy" to speak to us at all. This is an unacceptable way to treat customers. The cashier at the front was the only helpful and professional person there. She even disagreed with the situation, but could not approve a refund without a manager. She had to call twice before we finally received our refund. Bottom line: If you don't want to honor a deal, don't offer it. This is false advertising and completely unethical. Hiding in the kitchen instead of addressing customers is unprofessional and embarrassing for a business. This restaurant should either honor the Starving Student deal as advertised or remove it entirely. I'm posting this so others don't go through the same experience. I will not support a business that operates like this. This review will also be sent directly to the restaurant's management team and to Starving Student's management.
