Came in with pretty low expectations but left a believer. The arroz con pollo was delicious and definitely worth the cost in my opinion. A very fresh and light flavor. Today I went back to La Carretta. It's been a few years. The service was good. Our waiter was polite and he communicated well. He brought our food in a timely fashion and kept the drinks full. We came here with a group of 8 a few weeks ago spur of the moment on a Friday night and had a great time! The employees, while few, were SO kind and professional. They put a lot of love into their craft! The restaurant is beautifully and authentically decorated, and there are a lot of tables! I am not that familiar with Peruvian food, but family members that ate with me said that the food had been better in the past. Our server was very helpful and friendly and ensured that we did not have to wait to be seated or to get our beverages. The food all came out together and was appropriately hot or cold. Prices were a bit higher than I would have expected for a restaurant of this caliber, We ate at a similar Mexican restaurant yesterday and the prices there were about 25% lower for similar entrees. I might try different Peruvian restaurants in the past, though would return if there were no other similar restaurants to choose from. read more

First time here and came to place a pick up order. There were 2 servers, older lady and a younger gal. I engaged both of them and the customer service was cold and no engagement, primarily with the older lady. Just said " you ready to order ? " gave me the receipt and that was it. Solid 3 star restaurant!! Pretty good -- not great. Let me walk you through my experience here: - Waited AN HOUR to get our food. The menu says something along the lines of "Good food takes time. Please be patient while we make your food." But an hour is pretty crazy! Especially when other reviews say they received their food in 25 minutes. There was even a large family that arrived before us that didn't receive their food until after we did. - Our waitress was MIA. The restaurant wasn't super busy, but they seemed understaffed. I could tell she was working hard busing lots of tables! She was very kind the few times we did see her. - The food was pretty good. I'll be honest -- it didn't really sit right with me. I have been burping it up all night, but I enjoyed it while I ate it. It wasn't the best food I have ever had, but it was good enough to eat. My beans were lacking in salt, and so were the fries. - The complementary salsa was yummy!!! Throw some homemade chips in the mix, and you have me hooked. - The restaurant was very smoky. My hair and clothes are infused with the smell of the restaurant, and my eyes are a little irritated. - The food is overpriced. My plate of rice, meat, and beans was $14.99 It tasted more like a $10 meal though in my opinion! OVERALL ... La Carreta was a fun restaurant to try! I've got a thing for Peruvian food. What's not to love? Grilled meat and veggies usually with rice, fries and a delicious sauce to tie it all together. I can't believe that I haven't tried La Carreta sooner. It's a great little place with the family vibe. Came here again to see if last time was just a bad experience or the wrong dish for me. I had the saltado mixto this time around and I felt that it was worth what I paid for it and was quite tasty. My wife says that the tilapia that she had was the best she can remember ever having, but what accompanied the tilapia was kind of unremarkable otherwise. We ended up having a piece of tres leches, but it wasn't very impressive either. Go here for the chicha morada and the saltado mixto, they are both worth the visit and are delicious. It would have been better with more sauce as the rice and fries were rather plain unless soaked in the juice with the steak. I'm debating between 2/3 starts. I apologize in advance for the "picky" review. I find it important to share MY experience. Let's get right to the food part. Portions: Good Price: A bit expensive Taste: okay Now for the rest. When we walked in here, it looked like it was foggy inside! Obviously all the steam form the kitchen. And we walked out of there smelling like food! The temperature of the restaurant was actually hot and we were sitting close a vent, wife and I were sweating as we tried to eat. Bathrooms, disgusting, the toilet was clogged and the urinal, you don't wanna know. One of the sinks to was your hands was clogged with nasty water. And to top it off, felt like you were in an oven in that bathroom, super hot in there! (Sorry if TMI) The service was.. mediocre, as you can see from my pictures, the only 2 servers here were playing on their phones. (Mind you that there were plenty of tables that needed to be cleaned and people to be served) I had to ask for my water to be refilled. Which in my book, an empty glass is a BIG no no. Our server was nice however. Other than that, food was VERY mediocre (in my opinion) portions were good for price paid (still a bit on the expensive side for my liking $32.45+Tip for two people, no drinks or appetizers or dessert) I will most likely not come back here, not impressed whah so ever, just another place to cross of the list of restaurants. read more

The online menu shows cheaper prices than what they are, and it took over 40 minutes (despite my group being the only guests) to get my food which was cold and had no flavor. I ordered nachos which consisted of a few dollops of canned refried beans, a tomato, and not even a tablespoon of sour cream. I doused it in hot sauce to give it flavor. This is my favorite restaurant in Utah. Their ceviche is the best I have ever had. And the service is great!

We have been going here for many years. We have always loved their food. One of our favorites is the pollo asada (rotisserie chicken) it is a whole chicken that comes with a salad and an order of fries. We often get at least two or three orders and get it for pickup and bring it home and then after we eat the chicken we make chicken stock out of the carcass and the way it is seasoned it makes the perfect chicken soup.
