We were driving on vacation from Moab back to the SLC Airport and found this restaurant on Yelp. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! We got 5 dishes, 3 Inka Colas, and 1 Chicha Morada. This place looked so sketchy, but I'm finding that those are the best establishments to get the most authentic experience. Also it was a short walk from where we were staying and seemed like a good idea to get our steps in before we stuffed ourselves. If you speak Spanish, you're golden here. If not, it may be a bit challenging, but the server we encountered was so nice, she even tried to use google translate to communicate with us. Btw, their website online only shows they have a few items, don't let that deter you. They have a bigger menu in person. Our server brought us a bowl of different chips as an appetizer. Wasn't necessary, but everyone gobbled them up. Started ordering and was a little disappointed as they didn't have the arroz con pollo (even though we called in advance to ask), but the lomo saltado was available, so we opted for that and the frijole (beans) and pollo (chicken) pupusas. My niece ordered the ceviche and when we received our food (very quickly), we were really impressed at the quality on the flavors and the sizes of the dishes. If you go, make sure to order the lomo saltado. It has so much flavor and the fries, that were drenched in the sauce, were a nice addition. The ceviche was made with fish, not shrimp, and my niece loved it. the pupusas were fine, but we would have rather had the arroz con pollo, had it been available. We also tried the pineapple and strawberry tamales. They were a bit dry, but I think if it had been served with some sort of cream, it would have solved the problem. All in all, I don't think there was a morsel left on anyone's plate. Oh one note, the prices are reasonable, but I wouldn't order the coke and jarritos again. Those were $6 a bottle and because the soda fountains were out of commission, we opted for those without knowing the price, until we received our bill. They also charge for water, just an fyi. 3 stars for the pricey sodas, charging for water, and not having the arroz con pollo, even though we had called for it in advance. Maybe it was the walk that did it, but because everything was so tasty, we'd most likely come back again... I'm bringing my own drinks though. read more

I wanted this food to be good so bad but as a peruvian, I cannot vouch for this. We ordered: Anticuchos, Ceviche, Lomo Saltado, Arroz Chaufa de pollo, Tallarin Verde and Chicha Morada. I will say the portions were good and the Chicha (drink) was really good. Sweeter than most but still good. My son had the arroz chaufa which is his favorite dish, even though he ate the whole thing, the rice was undercooked. My daughter's shared the tallarin verdes and they did not have flavor. The pesto consistency was good and the linguine was cooked al dente. The steak was seasoned enough but not cooked properly and was very chewy. The papa a la huacaina that came with it was not good. Absolutely no flavor. They did not finish their food. I ordered the Lomo Saltado. You can't go wrong with it however, this one was lacking flavor and the meat was chewy as well. The ceviche was also lacking traditional flavor. The Leche de Tigre held nothing to desire . And lastly the anticuchos. The biggest disappointment. Not seasoned enough and undercooked. Only 1 piece out of 9 were consumed the rest was thrown out. This food, lacking the bold flavors that peru is known for, could have passed for decent if their Aji (spicy sauces) also had the right flavors. But those also were a huge disappointment. I feel like this restaurant can have potential if they dont shy away from real peruvian bold flavors and season correctly, use better quality meat, and cook the food to the appropriate temperatures. I hate to leave such a review because I was craving good peruvian food here in Utah. $100 later and we are still hungry. read more

I lived in Peru, and this food took me right back there! The aji de gallina was creamy, the Chicha was refreshing, and the salchipapas were just like they were back in Peru. If you're looking for authentic Peruvian food in Utah, this is the place! Tia Magaly was very helpful and nice, she was attentive, and made great conversation. First time coming since the change in ownership and it was amazing I was very impressed. I ordered a lomo saltado, it was probably one of the best lomos I've ever had, and the food was very authentic. The service is very friendly and the owner came out and talked to us. The environment is very welcoming and authentic. Also the prices better than some other Peruvian places I've tried. I will definitely be coming back and bringing the fam. read more

This place is highly, highly recommended. Their website doesn't work well. The sign outside just says "restaurant", and they are just a couple blocks past the "hot spot" on center street. but done let that fool you. Just go. Everything was great. I have had a lot of different, Latin American food, but had heard about Peruvian food, and never had it before. One thing that's important to note is that most South Americans I have met always say that Peru has the best chicken. That's really saying some thing. We had three different dishes, and they were all amazing. Ahi de gallina. Tallarines verdes. Lomo saltado. All unique. All very different than other Latin American food. All just tremendous. This used to be Real Tamales on Center Street in Provo--it was bought out again, and the new owners changed the name to Ají Peru. They have kept pupusas and tamales from the original Real Tamales' menu, but they specialize mostly in Peruvian cuisine now. We loved Real Tamales for the pupusas. I'm pretty disappointed in the changes that Ají Peru made to them. This is the second time I have tried them since the change in ownership and I've not been impressed either time. They are now bland and have no flavor on their own. The curtido (cabbage slaw in a light vinegar brine that is served on top of the pupusa with a red sauce) is tasty, but the red sauce is flavorless and watery. It looked and tasted almost like they took the Real Tamales' sauce and diluted it by half with water. I also tried their sweet corn tamale--which was dry and flavorless and only had an occasional corn kernal. I really wanted to love the new place, especially since I don't know anywhere else to buy pupusas locally, but sadly this really isn't worth it anymore. The service was lacking, and only in Spanish. One more caveat, if you pay with a credit card they charge you higher prices. read more

I'm only giving this a two star because I didn't get the opportunity to try their food. I got here one day at 7:30 was told that three pupusa's were going to be made in 20 minutes 40 minutes go by I go up to the front desk and asked, where is my food as other people after me who ordered got their food before me and proceeded to tell me that the food wasn't ready yet and that I would have to wait a little bit longer told him I did not like that idea ask for a refund take and the server was trying to convince me to wait an extra 5 minutes. Needless to say I'm not a local in this area but I do have a business close by and always wanted to try the spot. I was very disappointed when I wasn't able to eat here .
