I got the $30 combo of ramen+appetizer+drink. The portion was ok and I was able to finish everything and felt a good full. I like how the tonkotsu tantanmen is actually a bit spicy and I usually eat samyang (very spicy korean noodle). If you feel like a bit of spice, then the tantanmen is a good option. I also like the noodles because it's chewy and on the harder side. For ramen, I don't like the smooth and soft type of noodle, so this is a good option. The only problem is the balance of the overall combination of bok choy and the mushroom because the taste doesn't complement the soup. The service was nice and the server took the time to simply explain what the ramen is like.

Tried the shiro ramen which is alright. Nothing to write home about. Touch salty and the soup didn't have a lot of depth. Wish it had better protein to carb ratio but one slice of meat is pretty standard for all ramen places unless you pay for extra egg or meat. Friend had the dine out menu and said it was ok too. Service was attentive. Its a bright airy restaurant which is popular with the locals.

If you are craving for ramen on perfect rainy day in Vancouver, this is the place to be. This place is tiny but has such a tasteful minimalist interior done that you can spend hours here. Perfect spot for couples or solo date night. I love their vegan ramen and pork ramen. They were super quick in service and the person who served us was so patient and welcoming. We were able to ask any questions we had about the menu. A side tip, order some of the seaweed on sides for your ramen and if you like it spicy, don't shy away from asking their chilli oil! It is amazing!

Ramen in Yuzu broth with chicken and egg

Finally came to the main st location on their 3rd anniversary and had their anniversary special which was the Yuzu broth with ramen and chicken. I loved the yuzu broth, so unusual and a bit tangy. The 2 thick pieces of chicken were tender. It is a nice change from the typical cha Siu pork. The noodles were perfectly al dente. A couple of people in our party had buckwheat ramen with shiyo broth. They really liked the noodles but disappointed with the 2 smaller pieces of chicken that came with the buckwheat noodle. It'll be better if the chicken pieces were similar size as the other ramen dish. Service was good and the restaurant is nice and bright. I'll be back and try the other unique broths.

Stopped by after work and it was busy. Luckily a table just finished up so we got seated fairly quickly. Inside looked like a standard ramen shop and had nice high ceilings. I ordered the tonkotsu shio ramen and it was very tasty. Broth was creamy but not too salty or heavy. Noodles were perfectly chewy, the wood ear mushrooms adding crunch, egg was gooey, and the chashu was deliciously soft. I had known this ramen restaurant was well known after seeing it a few times on social media and by word of mouth, but I never looked into what the restaurant was known for. Turns out it's their yuzu ramen which I didn't get! Need to come back and try that next time

2nd time in, for the anniversary special! Can't get ramen as cheap as $12 anywhere nowadays, so can't complain! Plus it tasted better than expected - we're big fans of the deep yuzu flavour, and the thin noodles were just perfectly al dente. Fantastic not-to-miss deal!

The ramen was good, and I really liked their combo deal promo! Despite being a cozy spot, the tables here seem to clear out pretty quickly.

I've been to the original location in Japan and loved it. I came here around 3pm and there were plenty of spaces available. Since this is consider happy hour, there were discounts on the appetizers. We ordered the karaage and the soft shell crab bun. Both were very good. The karrage is one of the best that I've tried and the soft shell crab had a very nice texture. You can even eat the crab shell surprisingly. For the main I opted for the yuzu shoyu. This is just how I remember when I went to Japan. The cha siu (pork) was also very delicious. There was a nice Smokey flavour. I wished I ordered more of it. Overall, I recommend this ramen spot. It's just as good as the one in Japan. Only cons is that I wish they sold the cup noodles. They sell them in Japan, but here it's just used as decor.

    Gyoza and Tonkatsu Shio

First ramen in Vancouver!! Super impressed, I was a bit curious as to how it would be since it is a restaurant in multiple cities, and not disappointed at all. Delicious ramen and gyoza, can't remember what the deal was, but order price was reasonable given the discount for ordering an appy and drink. Will be back!

Price/quality (4/4): I've been here a number of times and tried a bunch of different ramen offerings. Most feature yuzu citrus, which is their signature style. All were tasty and worth coming back for. Service (1/1): Service was reasonably effective, though I didn't go there during the busiest hours. Would I come here again: Yes

Yuzu shio ($16.00) with gluten-free noodles ($4.00 extra)

Been ages since my last visit to Afuri ramen + dumpling (in Richmond). Met up with a girlfriend on a Saturday night to try out their second location. We shared a fruit sake - peach momo, aichi ($32.00 for 300 ml). Tasted like peach juice! There's two gluten free ramen options. I went with the yuzu shio ($16.00) with gluten-free noodles ($4.00 extra). Noodles had a crunchy bite, which reminded me of konjac. Egg was solid and there was plenty of bamboo shoots. Chashu was tasty but a little too fatty for my tastebuds. Broth was light and refreshing. 3.5 stars.

    Hazelnut tantanmen (vegan)
    Matt B.

Killer vegan hazelnut tantanmen, but lacklustre service that needs some work. We visited a few weeks after opening, and man do they have some stuff to figure out in the service department. I visited with my wife. We're both vegan, so we ordered (or tried to order) the miso cashew gyoza to start, which comes with vegan kimchi. But they were out of vegan kimchi, so they offered us non-vegan kimchi. Uh, no. We asked if they could substitute, for example, seaweed salad or more gyoza. The woman taking our order didn't know the answer, so she asked someone else, who apparently had to phone management to see if that was OK -- WTF?? Apparently, the answer was no, because the "meal doesn't go together"; "we don't mind"--to no avail. They could serve the dish at the same price without kimchi. That didn't work for us, so we canceled our order. How inflexible can you be? Management, you gotta sort this out. We each got the hazelnut tantanmen ($18, plus tax; vegan) for our mains, which we'd tried before at their Portland and Richmond locations. It was as sublime as remembered it. Rich, nutty broth, with toasted hazelnuts, bok choy, shiitakes, shredded leeks, and wonderfully cooked, firm noodles. One of the best vegan ramens available in the city. It is in the pricy side though, so the value is worse than many other places (e.g., Danbo, Gyo Para, Menya ITTO) but it is damn tasty and very good quality. Overall, top-notch vegan ramen, but the service needs some work.

    soft-shelled crab bun
    Raymond M.

We went to this new Ramen place in our neighborhood (Mount Pleasant) last weekend during their soft opening. They have another location in Richmond which we have not been to. The restaurant was busy already which we thought was a good sign. The decor is utilitarian, clean and bright. We could tell the staff was new, but the overall service was good, no complaints. We ordered the soft-shelled crab bun, tonkotsu shio ramen, and wagu ramen. My partner complained that there was only 1 piece of Chaisai in her ramen. Most other ramen places have 2 or 3 pieces per order. I also got only 1 piece of wagu beef (for $24/bowl). The ramen were OK, nothing extra-ordinary, but the soft-shelled crab bun was nicely presented. We thought that was the best of the three items we ordered. Without alcohol, the bill came to $55 before tip. One final point, Butcher ramen in Chinatown remains our favourite Ramen place in town.

Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.

Unlike many ramen spots that rely on a heavy tonkotsu (pork) broth, Maruhachi stands out by using a creamy chicken broth. It's hearty yet balanced and surprisingly light. I also loved that they offer side sauces so you can adjust the saltiness to your preference. The spice had a perfect kick -- more of a warming, throat spice that builds without overpowering the broth. The pork was incredibly tender, and the soft-boiled egg was cooked perfectly, with a rich, creamy yolk that was full of flavor. My fiance got the Pork Chashu bowl which she said was so full of flavor, she also was adding the broth from my ramen in it to add some more warmth and flavor to the bowl. The spot itself is small but very unique, and I love how they stay true to tradition. Service was good -- nothing over the top -- but efficient and fast. The gyoza, which we ordered on the recommendation of our waiter when we told them we were looking for a vegetarian appetizer, were made with soy-based imitation meat that had a very meaty texture - simple but very tasty. The rice bowl also had the soy meat, but seasoned differently, with a more intense flavour, along with atsuage tofu and various vegetables. It was delicious and also seemed healthy. We liked the aburi cheesecake, but it was more lemony than we expected. The waiters who brought it out said the lemon was to cut the sweetness, but we actually felt like the lemon competed with the caramel flavour of the bruleed crust. The textures were amazing though.
