I was concerned about summer bugs this past early Spring, and a friend recommended Affordable Pest. The first visit went fine. No issues at all. The technician was timely, explained the plans well, and was thorough. But the customer service with the follow ups has been a total mess! We've experienced last-minute schedule changes to days/times I specifically explained REPEATEDLY that I would not be available, I've had technicians coming out on the wrong days, and now not only were we double-billed for our last visit - we just got ANOTHER INVOICE when we should have actually been credited! At this point, I would not recommend Affordable Pest to anybody. The customer service is just awful. And we still have ants. read more

Mediocre at best. They don't arrive when they say they will, often don't arrive equipped to deal with the specific issue at hand (termites, pests, etc.) despite specifically detailing your request when calling them, and many times don't completely resolve the problem. Terrible experience, they supposed to come for the free inspection but charge my card before free inspection. They will treat your home even if you don't need it. They will treat your home on the free inspection day. And be prepare to receive a call for them after 3 months threating you that you sign an whole year contract with them. Luckily I did not. Stay away from them and do not give them your credit card unless they treat your home and do not sign document they email you..... They were costly and hardly spend any time at my place. read more

I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed with "company". They called and left a message and saying they'll be coming the following day. I was okay with this because I work from home. Naturally, I didn't hear from anyone nor did anyone come by house. One month later, I'm getting a phone call saying I'm late on my account for service render. I told them no one ever came out. She said she'll check into it. Naturally, I didn't hear back from her. It's now three months later, I'm getting emails saying I owe. I advised them again, no one came out. They "Austin" came out on x date, I told them I work from home and no one came by. They said he did the service in the backyard. I told them that's funny because I have two dogs that both way over 100 pounds who frequent the backyard and I don't think anyone with half a brain would dare go back there. Instead of responding or picking up the phone. I got an invoice with a threat of a delinquent account and I still have rats that show up in my backyard. Bottom line do not use this company. Customer service is awful, they'll flat out lie to you and only follow up when they're looking for more $. read more

We use Affordable Pest on a regular schedule. They are very responsive when we need additional service or even if we feel the pest problem areas aren't improving. We have had positive results from their mosquito service and like that our children and pets can use the yard after treatments without fear of harsh chemicals. read more

For these people to make another visit, they want another payment. Forget it!. Find the nest and stop just spraying around the house.... Unfortunately, communicating with this company is a big problem. For example, they have come unannounced for the quarterly service when I'm at work, which I've repeatedly told them not to do because they can't enter the locked gate, and then they try to charge me for the service anyway. We used Affordable Pest and Emmanuel Dicks to get rid of bed bugs. Bed bugs are a complete and total nightmare and the treatment process is incredibly stressful and disruptive. But Emmanuel was always professional, patient with with my questions, and kind when I was struggling to deal with the horrible situation. He went above and beyond the call of duty -- even being willing to help us deal with the neighbors who were the cause of our infestation -- and the price we paid was significantly less than the big name company we first contacted (and that company failed to find the infestation in my infant daughter's crib -- which still infuriates me). The actual exterminators are good. The disaster is actually dealing with the administrative side of Affordable Pest. They can't get anything right. Bills and scheduling are all screwed up and NO ONE EVER CALLS BACK WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL. I was overbilled several times and although they kept claiming that they removed the charges, I started getting harassed by bill collectors. They would schedule appointments without telling me or exterminators did not show up. Only hire them if you have plenty of free time during the workday to keep calling them to have all of your issues resolved. Again, the exterminators themselves do a decent job. I paid $225 for one time treatment about the ants in the rental property in Oxon Hill, Maryland, about three weeks ago. A technician treated the house but the ants came back around dishwasher in two weeks. Since it is within the warranty period, I called the company for the second treatment. The technician called me that he can't make it for traffic at the time of appointment. It's understandable. So, we made a second schedule but the technician didn't show up. When I contacted the company, their record showed the technician came to the house but there was nobody there. It seems to be wrongful report by the technician because my tenant was waiting for him anxiously at home. So, we made the third schedule to treat last Friday. Again, there was no show. The tenant became so angry with this. So, I called the company again next Monday morning. The company still recorded there was nobody at home last Friday. I asked refunding at least half for the technician's no-show, and the office promised the manager would call me to talk about it. Of course no phone call at all. We should avoid this kind of unprofessional company. read more

I found this company through a Google search and saw on their Homepage that they had a "Super Service Award 2009" from Angie's List so I thought I would call them to address a small animal problem in my tenant's apartment (squirrel). I called on Saturday afternoon and was told that "Jason" handled small animals and trapping services and that he would be calling me back "in a few minutes." After more than an hour, I called again and said that Jason had not yet called and I was told the same thing. I waited an hour or more again and called back a third time and each time was told the same thing. Now, a squirrel in the house (or any small animal) is rather an emergency! As of 9:49 p.m. Sunday evening, I still have never heard from this company. I would not believe the award they received for service from Angie's List and avoid them--especially if you have an emergency. I scheduled an appointment for someone to come out and address an ant problem. I requested the first appointment window of the day, and asked if I could be the first appointment of the day. After waiting two hours, I called Affordable Pest to check on the status of my technician. I was informed the individual who was coming to my home did not start as early as the window I was assigned. I asked why I was not informed of this when I scheduled the appointment or afterwards, and was not provided an explanation. When the technician finally called, he informed me he would be at my home - 30 minutes after the end of my appointment window. I cancelled the appointment and have since contacted another company to treat my ant problem. read more

I do not recommend anyone do business with Affordable Pest. I found Affordable Pest on Yelp and the reviews were mixed because we had ants after heavy rains I was willing to take my chance. However, I am very disappointed that I called this company. First, Yelp has a promotional offer that I had planned to purchase, but after speaking with their service technician about the deal he told me not to purchase and he would give me a better deal. He lied. Instead of giving me a better deal, he botched the service agreement. On the invoice he wrote the prices separately as 2 different numbers, but then on the total line added the cost as $300 which the first 2 numbers did not add up to. Customers, go with a company that you know and can trust. I do not trust Affordable Pest. Also it states online they are advertising $25 off the initial cost, and it's reflected on my invoice, but they charged my credit card more than that amount. When I called to remedy the problem the person who answers the phones states that the Office Manager is not available. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH AFFORDABLE PEST. read more

"Affordable" Pest, located in VA, MD and DC should be removed from Angie's List. My husband and I noticed 1 small bug in our kitchen and consulted Angie's List for a preferred vendor. We were referred to Affordable Pest and scheduled an appointment to address possible roach problems. My husband, who is a finance professional and very business savvy asked how much the service would be and was quoted $90. On the day of the appointment the company called 10 minutes before their arrival time letting us know that the 9-11am window no longer worked for them and that they would arrive between 1-3pm. My husband changed his work schedule to accommodate this change and upon the arrival of the tech realized that they had not arrived to spray anything but rather placed "traps" (for roaches?) in our kitchen cabinets and on the floor. The service price? $175.00 Apparently, "Affordable" Pest quotes one price on the phone but charges another once you have no choice but to use them. The technician tried to say that the $90 is actually a quarterly fee and that we would have to sign a contract to have the company come back 4 times per year ($360). A one-time appointment is $175 (which is NOT the price we were quoted repeatedly). As a Client Service professional, I was appalled at the company's response when I called to complain. They basically told me that we must have misunderstood and offered no remedy to the situation which not only angered me but will force me to consult a lawyer and go after these crooks! Lesson: DO NOT HIRE THEM. There must be many other, perhaps independent, companies offering the same service with a bit more transparency. read more

Affordable Pest did a great and detailed job. We've had a stubborn problem of mice finding their way in after being gone for months; one will show up out of the blue in a snap trap. AP's service rep, Chris Bryant, did a thorough job of finding the entry way from their point of entry in the garage into the basement. He plugged the holes with steel wool and left bait out at the point of entry and several snap traps. Came back two weeks later to check the traps and see if the bait had been taken. Work was completed very satisfactorily with no year long contract like the nationwide companies force you into. read more

Would love to give them zero stars! I contacted the company at the end of March to have raccoons removed from our attic. Someone came out and looked at the property, told us that a trap would be placed (on the roof) and it would be checked every day for a week. He explained that he wouldn't enter the attic because it might contain a mother and her babies (due to the time of year) and the mother would become aggressive. We were charged $375. The company never sent anyone out to check the trap. The raccoons never left. We called several times. On one occasion a 'technician' was sent to our home. We thought he was coming to address the problem. He showed up with no ladder and no equipment. At one point a raccoon decended from the attic. The technician told my husband he didn't know what to do to get rid of the raccoon! I spoke with someone in the office who stated that the problem was misdiagnosed. We should have had a one-way door installed so that the raccoons could leave and not reenter. He would contact their wildlife specialist and let me know when they could come out. I had to call back to determine when the person was coming. I was given a four hour window. My husband stayed home to wait for the wildlife specialist who never showed up. I called the company again. The 'manager' stated that the contract with the wildlife company had recently been cancelled. Of course, no one called to tell us that. I told him we just wanted our money back. He stated he could not return our money because a service had been provided. I informed him that the incorrect service had been provided and it had not been provided according to the contract (no one came to check the trap); I didn't pay $375 for a metal cage to sit on the ground outside my house collecting spiderwebs. I'm beyond disatisfied with this company. They came to my house in September for a mice problem and I still have a mice in my house at the end of December. They want to continue to charge me fee's, quarterly fee $125.00 plus $167.00 due. Read your contract thoroughly!!!! You want me to continue to pay you without services rendered, HOWEVER Now I have another concern. After trying to rectify this issue with Ms.Wanda Kotey(billing specialist) she began to raise her voice at me, became rude, stated you need to read your contract, you are going to pay.. Was promised service on the next Monday nobody showed, was called on Tuesday saying they'd be there on Thursday nobody showed, I called them the following week, their service desk "could not contact their technician", promised a call back no call and of course nobody showed...don't waste your time buy your own traps! read more

You call at first and then get transferred all over the place. You make the appointment and then after that you will get phone calls calling to change your time at the day of appointment after you have taken off work for the whole day. This is not professional. I have been a customer of Affordable Pest for a year and half and have been extremely satisfied with them. Initially I looked for a new pest company as the one I had had for 8 years had become lax. Supposedly I'd had had a termite contract, but got termites anyway and the old company wasn't too interested. I had Affordable Pest come view the problem, and Emmanuell Dicks arrive promptly and provided a free of charge inspection. He explained everything thoroughly and spent an hour. There was no pressure, and Emmanuell suggested I think about it and was going to leave me material. I was so impressed that I asked to sign a termite control contract as well as pest control for the house. I have found Affordable easy to deal with, flexible about scheduling, and good about follow-up. Emmanuell is great to deal with. He carefully wears shoe coverings when in the house, is unfailingly cheerful in all kinds of weather, and assiduous about checking back to see if the treatment is effective. We've had moths and various creepy crawlers in the past and Affordable has taken care of all. read more

Be careful if you use their service. I initially hired them for problems with ants. They talked me into the quarterly service but everytime they came to spray, I seemed to have more ants than before (they say that should be expected initially but it never got any better). When I cancelled their service, the ant problem seemed to go away. So, then I tried to cancel the quarterly monitoring but they kept coming (and sending bills). When I tried to get someone on the phone to discuss the problem, they always said they would leave a message but I never got a return call. So then they sent me to collections for $100. Rather than affect my credit, I paid the outstanding balance only to see that the following month, I received another bill for the quarterly monitoring that they decided to restart on their own. It's been 2 weeks and I'm still waiting on a manager to call me back. Avoid the headache, use another company. read more

I hired Affordable Pest because they advertise that they erradicate bed bugs. Even though I did not like the fact that it was a lengthy and ellaborate process to finally get rid of the pests--maybe after several weeks. After five months of them trying to get rid of the bed bugs and much rental income lost during this time of vacancy, they NEVER were able to get rid of the bed bugs and did not honor their six-month guarantee. I paid half down and refused to pay the remainder because they didn't do the job, so they filed it on my credit report. I also formally compained to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but it did nothing. Affordable Pest still feels that I should have paid them the entire amount even though they NEVER got rid of the bed bugs. I had to call Bug-Off Pest Management and with ONE TREATMENT for LESS than Un-Affordable Pest was charging, completely and unequivicably erradicated the bed bugs. I DO NOT RECOMMEND UN-AFFORDABLE PEST FOR THEIR BED BUG TREATMENT. read more

I will never, ever use this company again! I paid $425 for their service, which was supposed to include setting bait traps outside for mice and inside services for cockroaches. On the first day of service, they placed one of two bait traps in a location that was not on my property. On the day they were supposed to do the inside service, they didn't show up after I waited three hours and didn't call or email me.. I have been hassling with them for three weeks, trying to get a refund of the $425 I paid them. They agreed to reimburse me only $175, claiming that setting the bait traps, which only took 15 minutes, cost $250. To end the hassle, I agreed to the $175 and they promised to mail me a check. I have been waiting for almost three weeks for the check and have yet to receive it with no explanation for the delay. As far as I am concerned, they have stolen my money and are dodging my efforts to hold them accountable. I would advise anyone to steer clear of this company. Never, never, never again!! read more
