If I could give this company less than one star I would. DO NOT TRUST ADT or their sales people! We had problems with the system from the start. We were out of town for the first week we had it and when we got back called immediately to cancel service. It had been 7 days, and ADT said we could not cancel after 3 days. After several calls and telling them we no longer want the service they finally have cancelled the service and are now billing us for $1700! What kind of company acts so unethically? ADT. I didn't plan on using ADT but was told my house security I paid for was ADT equipped and that's who I should call. I just wanted to change the code. No one seemed to know. After all new equipment and a new keypad plus a contract (no I wasn't drinking), he left and although I kept mentioning it , the how to change the code was NOT in my folder, nor was his card, or the contract telling me I had 3 days to cancel. I didn't get the signs or stickers he "forgot" and said he'd bring and when I called and complained the young man who answered felt put out to send these to me. I did get my contract a month later. This is the worst company ever!. We had ADT in our previous home. We tried canceling service and found out the 3 year contract deal. We bought a new home last year. Rep came buy. We informed hi. We would not sign a 3 year ever again. Rep wrote an addendum sheet saying no 3 year contract, monthly only. A year later, we decided to change vendors. The addendum was not in the paperwork! Wow seriously bad service I got a faulty camera installed because I didn't get the protection plan I have been telling adt for months now that it's the camera even the guy said it was faulty and said they would replace it. Yeah replace for like 500$ outrageous especially when they knew the equipment was faulty giving out bad products and not keeping a word on it. This company is the worst. I had them on two houses, one in Reno and one in Los Angeles. When I sold my LA house I informed them and they kept automatically charging me on my credit card. I called their billing department monthly and was assured I would receive a refund. This went on for a year and I finally cancelled my credit card so they couldn't automatically charge any longer. I finally got my refund after a year. But since both my houses were on auto pay I'm now getting daily calls from them saying my charge won't go through!! What idiots. They are rude and have no one capable of correcting their mess. I hate to think how they handle emergencies. Go anywhere but ADT. read more

This company is HORRIFIC! They employ completely awful business practices and have NO Moral Compass. One sunny afternoon, a large man named Sean came to my place of business...I had been thinking about activating the ADT system that was already installed at my place of business, as I thought it might help me to get a lower insurance rate (note: it didn't...it didn't help at all), so I decided to allow Sean to schedule an installation appointment. He came in a few days later to "do the deal". He quickly handed me an iPad mini and told me to sign in a few places, very clearly directing me to the areas that required my signature. He walked away jolly, as i'm sure that my signatures allowed him to meet his sales quota for the month. Fast forward one year, when I called ADT inquiring about cancelling my service. I was very quickly informed that that day with Sean, I had signed a 3-YEAR CONTRACT! What in the heck!?!? are you kidding me, Sean? In my opinion, it is VERY Bad business to dupe customers into signing a 3 year contract without EVER mentioning this to them at the time of signing. I have given ADT many opportunities to make this right, including filing a complaint with the BB, but have never once gotten any help. This company is not only a provider of lousy service but impossible to reach. All numbers go to the main company who has the stupidest workers I have ever spoken to. They cannot find accounts and will not transfer you to the local office. The local office ONLY provides the main number to the national office so you play a round robin game with the machine. Sorry I had not read the previous review! We just had the worst installation service possible from this company. We had been warned about ADT dealers so we went directly to ADT (no $99 special) and requested an installation. David Klein arrived and was very condescending about the ADT dealers but assured us we were working with the real deal. We signed up, they took the $450 installation fee a week before the work commenced. The installation was incorrect and I have been trying for 10 days to get someone back to fix. David kept promising people were on the way until yesterday informed me I had to call ADT directly to solve this issue!!! Really - this was the incredible service he promised at time of installation? Called ADT and now it will be another week before they can get someone out here to fix their problems. Pretty disgusted with this whole experience. read more

Service Technician (John) who came out to the house was on-time, professional and courteous. He identified and fixed the communication error (caused by Uverse disconnecting the phone lines) efficiently and quickly even though it wasn't ADT's fault. Horrible experience. I was quoted a free in home estimate when I called ADT. When the guy came out (nice guy), he started installing the key pad. I thought okay, I'll probably use them so why not. Once he started asking where I wanted certain equipment, I started inquiring about the price. Turns out, they wanted $10000 for the high-end package with all the bells and whistles. We then started trimming down on some of the equipment, and they somehow lowered the price to $3000. When I told them I wanted to think about it for a couple days, a supervisor of some sort dropped the price to $1800. I maintained that I wanted to think about, and the supervisor started becoming angry and began telling me he's paying is techs hourly to come out to my house, blah blah blah - Just short of yelling at me. I then told them I didn't want their service, and upon leaving, they left a nice little hole in my wall where they had mounted the pad. To top everything off, I still haven't seen a return of the $100 deposit I put down for the free consultation.. it's been 3 weeks at this point. Bright side is that had I gone with them, I'd probably be worse off. read more

I dislike ADT as a company. Every single little thing requires a service call with a fee, and having to buy new components, parts, etc for something little is ridiculous. I've called at least 3x to cancel but still in contract for another year. First time we had a false alarm, but it was a glitch in the ADT system (a download or something) and we got a $75 bill from the city. Second time I realized that our install had been wrong for an entire year, not protecting our daughter's bedrooms (the sensor was actually connected to itself so there was no point of contact broken when the window opened). We were also robbed during this time and could've been through one of those unprotected windows. This time I wanted to switch out a fob for one without a panic button because it too easily gets pushed when in a pocket. Simple right? Nope. Requires an equipment fee and a service tech visit fee. I refuse to pay for a service call when in my opinion this is a flaw with the product. All said, this isn't the Rock Blvd locations's fault, it is a company flaw. If I could find a local number for Rock Blvd location I would call. But I don't have too much hope they would help me with the fob situation without charging us. read more

ADT. is. the. Worst. Signed for a two year contract with them. Big mistake. At one time my alarm was going off without me home and they called me to see what was going on. I said I wasn't home and could they get the cops out there. They said no cause I hadn't signed up for that ( no one told me we had too, we were under the impression that was part of the deal). So basically they called to tell me hey just so know your house might be getting robbed right now. So I raced home while attempting to call the local police while driving. I beat the cops there (30 mins later- separate issue). Had my neighbor go in the house with to make sure all was good. Cope eventually came and saw all was ok, no break in. They are not sure what set the alarm off. So we end up getting a bill from from our city for a "false alarm fee" for 80 and an "alarm registration fee" for 100. Apparently In our city we have to register our alarm which ADT neglected to tell us. Also neglected to tell us that if the cops come out and nothing is wrong there is a false alarm fee. We attempted to get a refund from ADT for these fees but the appeal process was so cumbersome and paperwork heavy and they charge you to appeal the fee anyway!! What? We could not get out of the contract and celebrated when it was finally up a month ago. We cancelled and then they harassed us incessantly as to why we cancelled even though we told them it was because we hate them. They kept calling my husband to ask him to sign up again and he repeatedly had to tell them off because they were crazy in trying to get us back. read more

Horrible experience! Go to another security dealer not these guys. I asked the salesperson, Veronica, to make sure to include all the windows down stairs during the quote. She misses two and it cost me $80 each to have it added on. Then she said we would get two key fobs. Nope! Had to pay $100 for it! Her explanation was that we already had one so it wasn't included! They charged us over $800. and I can't even add up how many calls we made to them for service. Then they would call us several times about 3 a.m. to ask us if the system was working. NOT! Heads up new ADT customers. I just got installed with ADT and found out the hard way your technician can set up your system with different codes. My tech. set my motion detector in the hall to go off. When I set the alarm for the first night feeling very secure. I went to the bathroom before bed and was sitting on the toilet when the alarm said there was an intruder in the house. Scared me to death. Quicker than piss I stood up in mid stream and continued to pee on the rug all the way to the security box where I shut off the alarm. Thinking I pushed the wrong button to set the alarm I did it again pushing the right button. I went down the hall to my bedroom. When the alarm went off again. Freaking!!! I turned it off again and was sure there was a intruder in the house with me. After thoroughly checking the house(no intruder there). I had to leave the alarm off that first night. I called ADT the next morn. and they had me put in the CORRECT code for the hallway motion detector. My installation tech. was the TOP installer they have and a 6 yr. veteran. Which leads me to believe he knew what the result of that particular code being off would be. Too scare the living day lights out of me. He succeeded. The result being I'm in the 3 day period and am having ADT Security(HA NOT) removed. Will post again if there is more to come UNFORTUNATELY have to give a star. Should be MINUS 10 read more

We recently moved to a new home and were charged over $1,100 to set up our alarm system with ADT. Once the tech came to set up the system, we learned we never needed most of the services they charged us for, and it took weeks and at least 20 phone calls to receive some of our money back. But that was only part of our refund that the national office finaly credited us. We are now trying to work with the local office for the remainder of our refund, and though we have talked to at least 6 different people in the local office, no one seems to be able to figure anything out - we are just told we need to speak with Carlos. I have left several messages with Carlos over the past several weeks and not one of my calls has been returned. ADT provides the absolute worst service. read more

I CANT BELIEVE THE NAGGING THEY DO! I bought my home in a quiet neighborhood. Then today, I get two big guys knocking on my door. Girlfriend answers and they won't ID themselves. "Just tell the owner to call us" they said. I had the service for 2 1/2 years. The motion sensor went off for no reason the first month, which cost me $125...because although they say they call you before they dispatch police, they do not. They wouldn't remove the portion of my bill for the motion sensor, even though I couldn't use it anymore for fear that it would go off and cost me another $125. I had to move before my 36 month contract was up and that means you have to buy the rest of your contract out. I called to do that and the salesman offered to instead have me "transfer" my service. Literally every part of what he said to me to make his sale was a lie. They do not have an option to "transfer" service. When I realized I'd been duped I called to cancel what was actually a new service order for my new place, after receiving the bill to buy out my old contract!!! The "transfer fee" he charged me was actually a payment toward the old contract! According to their billing department they don't even have any such thing as a transfer fee. It's finally canceled but only after multiple transfers, having to explain over and over again what I was trying to do, getting different information from each department and more than an hour of my life wasted. I will never ever deal with this company again. They are awful, dishonest and inept. It would be cheaper to get robbed. read more

Uneducated employees and terrible quality is the best I can say about ADT. Customers should have no confidence in them providing emergency service. ADT routinely tests its service connections but 2 years after changing my phone company I found that during that whole period, I had no service and they NEVER called me. My house could have burned down. They told me its my responsibility even though its their system and their test. After talking to many many employees, who knew absolutely nothing, I found all they can do is collect money and do marketing. Anyone testing their system should NEVER put it on test mode. You should always make them call you. They might be asleep. read more

The alarm system itself works well, but you can tell they're only in it for the money. We were on vacation and my husband called ADT to put an alternate primary contact on the account as we were going to be out of cell phone range. Half a day later, the person watching our house accidentally set off the panic alarm. ADT proceeded to call my husband and when he didn't answer sent out the police even though we had less than 5 hours prior told ADT he'd be out of cell phone range and gave them an alternate primary. The false alarm resulted in a $100 fine and when we called ADT we were told we had a claim and to email their claims department to get a credit on our account. 5 months later we get a letter in the mail saying our claim was denied stating they followed the instructions on the account going completely against what their rep told us on the phone. Recommend if you're looking for an alarm company to stay local and find one that cares about its customers, not just their wallets. read more

I was called by ADT and paid a $99.00 plus tax fee to come and assess my new home purchase. The assessor arrived and evaluated my home and offered to install everything. I informed the assessor/installer that I do not want the service at this time. He stated give me a second so he could talk with his supervisor. The supervisor offered through the phone $500.00 in gift cards to give the system a try. I was still reluctant and asked may I cancel the service at anytime? The assessor/installer stated I had 6 months to cancel this service. I told him I will allow the install and assess the system myself. It has been 3 months and I called ADT to cancel my service due to this increasing my Home owner insurance. I was told by ADT that I would have to pay a 75% cancellation fee of the remaining portion of the contract. This is over $1297.00. I then informed ADT that your assessor/installer told me that I could cancel within 6 months if I did not want the service. ADT will not honor this statement. I am a traveling Military Soldier that does not have the time to monitor these types of situations due to my multiple travel obligations as a Soldier. I called within 3 months to cancel and ADT is now not standing by what the technician told me. I have not missed a monthly payment and to this day have not missed a payment, but I am not wanting this service. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well as this post with Yelp. I will continue to voice my dissatisfaction with the level of Customer Service with ADT and want the world to know that if you are looking at Home Security Service it would be in your best interest not to use ADT. If you have ADT,I strongly suggest to not renew this service due to you may be the next customer to fall into this type of situation if you haven't already fallen into this situation. The only way to prevent this type of service is to not request it. There must be better companies that take care of customers not force them to abide by the contract alone. Words matter and if your website states 6 months cancellation and your assessor/installer states the same thing then this should be honored. read more

Please please PLEASE - before you sign on the dotted line, READ THE POOR REVIEWS. We are not people paid to pad ratings or give ADT 5 stars. We are real customers who got screwed by them. Wish I had checked the BBB or Yelp or any other review site before signing up. If I could give negative stars, I would. Salesman looked at my existing system, walked my home, checked my "smart home" box and set up and told me NO PROBLEM, they could hook up my entire house on their system. Fast forward to the day of installation and it turns out there is a section of my house that needed additional sensors for the windows - not because they weren't already there (I had them added when the house was built), but for whatever reason, they wouldn't work with ADT. I was told I would need an additional eight at an additional cost of $100 each. These sensors were roughly 2 1/2" x 1" x 1/2". They were going to "give me a deal" and only charge me only $80 each. Keep in mind, they checked all my windows during the initial inspection. I called management and they refused to budge. I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and they refused to budge. I got stuck in a 2-year contract (they pushed hard for a 3-year contract which is required (or so they say) but at the time I said absolutely not). I was on hold with ADT for 25 minutes from the time I told the customer service rep I wanted to cancel. Once another rep came on the line, he tried to offer me 4 sensors at no cost to keep me as a customer. I literally laughed out loud. I said, "You are 4 sensors and 2 years too late!" OMFG. Then they transferred me to a guy to tell me how to power down the system (because I don't want to set of the alarm and get charged $100 error fee by the city) and suddenly we got disconnected. How convenient. I cannot tell you how GOOD it feels to be DONE with ADT. Please, ask your friends, neighbors, and co-workers what they use and how they like it. Do your homework and check the BBB and reviews. At the time I looked, there were over 4,000 complaints against ADT. 4,000!!! I only learned that AFTER I signed the contract. what a scam! ADT is the worst! called to schedule monitoring service and was told I could use all my existing hard wired equipment and just upgrade my keypads and get text messages on my phone. This was far from the truth when the tech arrived, unhooked my working system and told me I would need the 'pulse' upgrade to get the text messages, as well as a need to replace my current working keypad with a wireless keypad! told the tech that was not what was discussed on the phone and his supervisor told me over the phone basically too bad so sad, awful customer service and the bait and switch tells you a lot about ADT, don't use! was done with the horrible experience and told the tech this was a no go and asked him to leave, and to top off the whole experience, asked him to hook my working system back up, he refused, said he couldn't, so I told him to leave and had to call a local company to fix their mistakes and pay for it! called customer service, they were totally rude, don't use ADT, call a local Reno area company, what a much better experience and local services actually cost less on a monthly basis with better service hands down! read more

In short we have used ADT for over 15 years. The contract renews annually. If you miss this date you will pay for the entire year whether or not you need the service. Back in 1996 they were a different company and the contract was in a different name. They did not care. It took two letters to get it actually canceled and I had to pay around 800.00 for the year. They threatened collections after we were only 10 days late. They claim that they renew annually to protect their customers from losing service, but why not let them cancel with 30 days notice? My opinion is that when you decide to cancel and you miss that date by one minute, they get more money. Thsi is my opinion and my conclusion based on my experience. I will never give ADT another nickel. The reality is that I could have fought it since the contract, to me, was no good. However, they made it clear it wont be worth it. read more
