I want to start by saying the food at Ado's is excellent. It's been one of my favorite restaurants in Boulder. The menu is international, with choices for all diets. The fettucine is to die for. Truly, everything on the menu is good. They are even keen to accommodate large groups. Ado is friendly and charming and often comes to the table to check on the food. I rated it a "3" because the ambience is mediocre at best and the service is spotty. They take reservations, but don't seem to write them down. In addition to showing up and not having my reservation on their books, I have had at least three other experiences that have colored my view on the restaurant. One night I called in a pick-up order. When we arrived, they told me they had just spaced it out. Another time I had a reservation before a show on the CU campus and upon arrival were told they had some electrical problem and were closed. (We were able to enter the restaurant.) If you know the Hill around the CU campus, you know that there are few fine dining places, and on the night of a performance on campus, it's nearly impossible to get a table. If you have people with reservations it seems that the professional thing to do is to call them and apologize when a situation arises. That way, we could have made other plans. But last night was beyond the pale for me. I showed up for a reservation, again before a campus performance. There was one table filled with dirty dishes and no one around. I walked around to the bar where a very drunk customer was sitting. I asked if anyone was working. He began yelling at the top of his lungs for Ado. No one showed up. I went back to my table to call the restaurant to see if anyone would answer the phone. No answer. Sat for 10 more minutes with the inebriated customer sporadically yelling for Ado and went back to the bar. I could see in the kitchen two giant pots boiling away over high flames on the stove. No one around. The man at the bar is alternately bellowing Ado's name and apologizing to me for being unsuccessful at rousing a worker. I am very sad about this. I don't know what to say except Ado's needs to get their shit together. Great food can only take you so far. read more

A pleasant surprise - a little upscale but not pretentious. My husband had the salmon salad which he said was perfectly cooked. His sangria was fruity and refreshing. Companions and I came during Spring break. It was dead quiet and there was only one employee, who presumably wasn't expecting any business on a Monday night at 6:30 pm. In his defense, the Hill was like a ghost town. He proved to be our server and our chef, and I must say, he did a great job. All of our meals turned out great. I think the only qualm I may have with Span-ish is that the food is neither very Spanish, nor Mediterranean, nor Asian, which is what is advertised on the door. Don't get me wrong - it was plenty tasty - I just don't feel the need to pay premium dollars for a pretty basic (pasta) dish. Of course, it doesn't help that one of my companions spent a year in Spain..... and was a little more than unimpressed. read more

Great new place! I came in here one night after attending a CU Buffs game and was very impressed. Chef Ado cooked and served me a very well prepared pasta al carbonara that was well worth the little wait. They have a nice selection of microbrews to satisfy the local BeerPeeps, and other libations, too. Jake is one of the best bartenders in town, and really knows what his Chef can do. Boulder has great food and Span-ish is another excellent gem that we are lucky we have found. My wife and I shared the crab cakes benedict and the veggie papusa, and the girls got the kids' pancakes and eggs. We finished every ounce of food on our plates, even though we weren't hungry. Tried a new place for Sunday brunch. SO DELICIOUS!!!! No line at all--definitely check it out. I ordered the Eggs Benedict: the poached eggs came on polenta cakes with basil pesto sauce. My fiance ordered the Crab Cake Benedict. We shared and had one of each. YUMMMM! Others in our party ordered the Super Green Omelette which had at least 6 veggies in it. This was a great find on our visit to Boulder. Although listed as "Italian" the menu was quite eclectic with some Asian options and Salvadoran also. The pupusas were great. My wife and I went with Italian dishes and my son had the Mongolian dish...All were wonderful! The chef came out to talk prior to us ordering and the waiter was helpful and knowledgeable. The only down was the decor, with vinyl benches and booths seemed more appropriate for a diner then a nice restaurant. But ignore that and enjoy the food. read more

In another review someone mentioned all the food tasted homemade--this is why we went!!! I had Strip Steak over parm risotto with caramelized onions mushrooms tomatoes in a sweet savory bourbon "gravy". It was heavenly. Even through the intense flavors of everything else I was still able to enjoy the grilled flavor of the steak. I was sad that I may never get to eat it again as we don't live here. The other two plates at our table were Italian sausage stuffed chicken and fettuccine and meatballs which were also devoured with satisfied mumblings after each bite. Casey took great care of us and I promised that I would yelp the hekk out of our visit. This place needs to stay in business until we can hopefully make it back someday! So, go for me!!!! Read the reviews and decided to try it for dinner. Had the Chicken Picata and the Cobb Salad. They present everything uniquely positioned aka "fancy". The Cobb Salad lettuce was pushed together like a Jello mold of a mountain. The chicken and bacon strips laying against the mountain with the eggs at the base. They forgot the dressing. The Cobb Salad was underwhelming. The Chicken Picata was presented with the chicken perched on top of some mashed potatoes and the sauce was about as thick as chicken broth. No capers? No depth of flavor. Again, underwhelming. Definitely not worth the money. read more
