Cafe Blue is as I've said a hidden gem in Gunbarrel! The food is always amazing. Kevin is a fabulous chef and his wife Leslie is a great wine and spirits picker. The service is always friendly, convivial and welcoming. The ambience as very tasteful and friendly. It's 4/12 star food in a 21/2 star location as I've told many friends and business associates as we walk in. They are always amazed and want to go back even if flying in from out of state and having not been there for awhile. read more

We have patronized Cafe Blue for many years ! Good food & usually good wait staff. Last night will be the last time we will patronize Cafe Blue ! We sat at the bar enjoying our dinner, when some lady came in & also sat at the bar. She was talking on her phone very loudly, drinking & being very obnoxious ! She was also saying derogatory things to us. This is not the first time this has happened & yet Cafe Blue continues to knowingly allow it, while upsetting the other patrons as well . My daughter, daughter-in-law, and I had a wonderful lunch at Cafe Blue in Boulder, CO. I had the blackened salmon which was among the best I have ever tasted, as it was perfectly cooked and flavored. The fries were outstanding. My companions also said their blackened tuna and philly cheese steak were perfectly delicious. Danielle was a friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive server. Went with a friend. I called first, as we are both gluten free, and their online menu doesn't say anything about diet. Natalie answered, and was so supportive. She knows gluten free diets and said she could guide us. She saved us seats in her section and knew we were on a schedule. I had the mushroom and asparagus risotto, which was delicious. I only wish it was a slightly bigger portion. My friend had the enchiladas with chicken. They were a bit too hot for her taste, but pulling out the peppers she could see, helped, and I think we will both go back. And ask for Natalie! Nice find in my friend's neighborhood! read more

This small restaurant is a Gunbarrel shopping center is slightly difficult to find, it's just south of the Burger King. But keep looking, it's worth the visit! This food isn't fancy but it's not bad at all. The wait staff is very attentive. The food does take a little while but at least you know they are making it to order. I ordered a soup and salad and would have liked to have the salad first but both arrived at the same time. A great little place to meet up! read more

Yes! Great food, great service, and honest people! The Brussel Sprouts appetizer was fantastic. The big burger with the Caesar salad (anchovies optional) was delicious as was the crème brûlée. All that was great! But like an idiot.... I left with my phone and wallet in hand and left my bag in the restaurant...with close to $400, my hot spot, my rental car keys, etc. Since we caught a ride I didn't notice this fact until 1:00am and I was packing to leave for the airport in the morning. Oh excrement! Faced with a giant towing and key replacement fee for the rental I was not hopeful. My cousin's wife messaged them on social media, they responded! And they had my bag! The restaurant was closed all day but they still met my people to retrieve the bag in which remained all of the contents and cash. They refused a $50 gift of appreciation too. so ,went here for an introdution to the restaurant , went at lunch time . Asked for the shrimp bisque soup bowl DISAPPOINTED to get some gooey tomato soup base, with a smidgeon of (maybe) shrimp. I've had bisque from all over, and this was nothing like any I've ever had A poor attempt. Did the chef try this ?? Had a diet soda and was surprised to see a five dollar price on it . I mean, come on 5 bucks?? Half ice and few spritzes of diluted diet stuff. I know prices have gone up but, taking advantage of diners is not the way to win repeat business. This place had a Cioppino on the menu. I admit I am a sucker for a really good Cioppino. This one did not disappoint. The fish and seafood were excellent. Cooked perfectly. It has to come with a really fresh bread toasted with some crunch. It did here at cafe Blue. I used all the great bread to soak up the great sauce. I couldn't have been more pleased. Be attentive because Cafe Blue is not open on Saturday or Sunday. I am OK going here during the week! read more

Not sure why this place would deserve anything above 2 stars and there's multiple seats with 'reserved' sign upon walking in, must be a manipulation tactic to look sought after. Must be the best thing in the neighborhood which is quite sad..... Food is JUST okay, nothing spectacular with very little flavor if any. Mixed drinks on their menu are down right horrible..... Ordered the Spicy Mexican Mule with supposed muddled orange and jalapeño it wasn't spicy at all and had no flavor and upon further inspection the orange slice and jalapeños were just thrown in there - NOT MUDDLED for flavor. - I exchanged the drink for the regular Moscow Mule but yet a mistake again, no mint leaves at all? You would never be able to make a Moscow Mule without mint leaves - this bartender is lazy af* and they are possibly too cheap to invest in proper ingredients. BEWARE when paying your bill as the suggested tip is the tip WITH THE TAX. Hate when places try and be sly to have you tip their waiters on the tax, very unethical. Best hidden gem ever. I almost don't want to write this. Every damn thing I've ever ordered has been mouth watering delicious. Owner is friendly and nice (husband is a curmudgeon but he can cook). All staff is AWESOME and every one of them pours a stiff drink. Best chicken Parm West of the Mississippi. Best wraps (grilled and warmed to perfection). Small neighborhood restaurant hidden in a strip mall. I stopped in expecting a coffee/tea shop for a late afternoon snack and work, and chose to stay and sample the food and wine as the place gradually filled up with early dinner guests. The happy hour choices were diverse and affordable. I had a taco and a glass of wine -- both excellent. The waiter was friendly and accommodating to my situation. We worked out how long I could stay before she needed my table for the dinner guests. And, she was cool about me using my laptop during happy hour. The folks arriving seemed to be mostly regulars. The vibe was friendly and also upscale enough for a special occasion or "date night" I'm looking forward to a return trip. read more

Café Blue is a total dive. With that being said, the food is absolutely amazing. I have never been disappointed here food wise. Make sure you always ask what their specials are before you order. Sometimes the waiters forget to tell you. If they're ever offering pulled pork mac & cheese or something along those lines - order it! Service can be hit & miss which I'm not sure if you're aware but unemployment rates are incredibly low in Boulder. As long as they have the right cooks back there you will be happy. If you order any fish make sure you specify how you want it cooked because they come out medium. I like my salmon well apparently. Like I said it's a dive so when you walk in don't be surprised about how small and old things are. Some of the tables are small and uncomfortable especially when the place is packed during lunch. It has been less packed now that element bistro opened down the street. In the summer they put out some outdoor seating for the sidewalk. I have never sat out there but it looks cute. I probably eat here a dozen times and would happily go back next time I am in Boulder. read more

I was so good that I still can remember having it. If the quality of food is still the same or better than it was then, I'd say go for it! This is a neighborhood dive with outstanding food. I've visited 3 times and it's always delicious. There is a small bar and maybe a dozen tables. The service is great. We had the green chili burger and shrimp risotto for dinner last time, and we've also tried the Cincinnati chili and most of the soups. Not a fun dining experience in this overpriced, dingy dive. I felt ashamed I took a guest to Cafe Blue for his last lunch in Colorado. Their website said they opened at 11 and that was wrong. They open at 11:30. We waited a half hour to enter. On a sunny Colorado spring day, inside Cafe Blue was soooo dark, ugly and depressing. They gave us menus printed out on a printer that must have been out of ink because we couldn't read them in the dark room. LOUD Mexican music was blaring, which they refused to change or turn down. It was impossible to talk to each other, so we had to go outside on the "patio," which was more like sitting in the parking lot. It was not as loud and dark out there (except for all the noisy delivery trucks pulling in and out), but it was supremely ugly and filthy out there. I ordered the Spinach Beet Salad. It came with about 1/2 cup of spinach leaves, a couple of tablespoons of CANNED beet slices, a teaspoon or less of feta cheese and a teaspoon or less of candied walnuts that were so old they almost broke my teeth. But the plate was square and huge. It was like a $3.50 happy hour salad for $14 put onto a big plate!! McDonald's would have been more pleasant or a beet salad from the deli at Sprouts would have been more of a lunch----and cheaper. My friend ordered a Salmon sandwich, which he ate with no complaints, but no praise. Did we order the wrong things? ULHK! We gave them $45 for this, we had only water to drink, and I woke up the next morning thinking of how much delicious food I could have prepared at home with that much money and felt bad. read more

This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. It definitely feels like home--from the warm welcome to the nice notes from the chef. And they have delicious, fresh, and interestingly prepared dishes that have become my go-to faves. Oh, my gosh--the mac and cheese! Super cool cafe in Boulder area! Came here for a team lunch on a Friday, when it was pretty crowded. But surprisingly, the service was quick and the food was piping hot and lip-smacking good. The fries were fresh, crispy and crunchy, not too oily either. The Vegetarian Asparagus and Mushroom Risotto was extremely delicious! Though the quantity seemed less when served, it was just perfect at the end of the meal. Neither too heavy, nor too less. This treasure is the brainchild and labor of love of owners Leslie and Chef Kevin (just try to stump him with an obscure Food Question and he'll astound you with his encyclopedic knowledge). They care and it shows. Quality ingredients at its core; careful preparation and artful cooking at its best, the simplest dishes take on a regal quality of taste that transcends the bland neighborhood. It's not the cheapest Gunbarrel nosh spot, but it's the best-tasting and highest quality - if you're the type of foodie who cares about details like that. To brag about the comfortable, friendly atmosphere would just invite more crowding but I'll take the chance. At lunch it's a relaxing bite; in the afternoon it's a lively pub, at night, it's a great place to romance a date. Found it on Yelp and when I asked the hotel check-in person, she endorsed it enthusiastically. Upon entering the glass door there is a heavy curtain and the place was surprisingly dark and bar like. It has a bar. Deep red/maroon walls and small lights. Very comfortable. Small TVs with baseball on them. Everyone very casual. The menu is extensive. The list of sandwiches was long too. I ordered the quinoa wrap with basil aioli, spinach, black beans, avocado, and cheese (comes with pepper jack but I changed it to Swiss). The wrap was delicious and stuffed with quinoa. I would like to try to make it at home. There were many choices for a side - salads, cup of soup, fries, and what I ordered: Side of Mac and cheese. It was really good! Hot, gooey, creamy, made with a tubular noodle. For dessert I had the mint ice cream pie. I didn't intend to eat the whole thing but came pretty close. Service was great. Great lunch place. Good food, solid service. Get there a bit before noon for lunch though or you'll find yourself waiting. I've been multiple times and had almost all the salads - all are good. The Polenta Fries with a side of dip sriracha mayo and parmesean sprinkled over the top as an appetizer is a must have!! It has an unassuming front, and a small interior. I think someone mentioned good ambiance... and I would agree. Its not super fancy so I was unsure what to expect with the menu and food. The menu has a variety of items to choose from and I went with the prime rib sandwich and mom when with an Angus burger. Add a couple of beers and we were set. Pros: - The food is pretty darn good - I'm a fan of the veggie wrap (a little greasy, but delicious), the ahi tuna sandwich, and the firecracker shrimp salad (except I ask for the shrimp to be grilled instead of fried). I also hear the mac 'n cheese is delicious. - Service is friendly, albeit on the slow side occassionally. Cons: - It can be a little on the pricey side for lunch, so I normally go when I don't have to pay myself (i.e. interviews or team lunches). - Someone else mentioned the flies, though - I could not agree more! They are horrible in the summer. - Lunchtime rush (12-1p) can be very busy - I highly recommend you call in the morning to make a reservation, if you can. This place could be crappy and still be the best restaurant in Gunbarrel. But, it's not crappy. The sandwiches are generously sized and well made. The service is friendly and efficient. Perhaps your only struggle will be dodging the many unfortunates who work in surrounding businesses who have to park a half-mile away and walk to their office. read more
