The friend I had lunch with today is vegan, and she suggested this place. It's loud and rather stark, but inside is air-conditioned, which was needed in this 100-degree day. However, there were people sitting on their outside patio. Hardy folks, I guess! My friend was nursing a sore tummy, so she just had some grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. She loves everything she's had here. It was my first time. I ordered the chicken bowl with yakisoba noodles. It was lukewarm, but that's fine for me. I think they must have microwaved it because it was steamier as you ate down the bowl. The veggies were crisp, the noodles perfect, the chicken was tender. It was spiced at what I'd call a medium level, and quite yummy. My friend then ordered their vegan chocolate pudding, which we shared. Yummy and light. My one big criticism is that they charge $4 for iced tea. I questioned it and the cashier was kind of snippy about it, but the customer behind me approached after I dispensed my tea and said she agreed it's too expensive. The meal was appropriately priced and there is plenty of food, but the drinks? C'mon. It's worth maybe $2.50. They really should reevaluate that. It's the main reason that I gave the place 4 stars instead of 5. The other people who work there were nice and helpful. I didn't grab a fork but the server who brought my bowl cheerfully went and got me a fork and napkin. Very nice. It's obviously popular, it filled up as we sat, with quite a variety of people, from babies to seniors. I might go back, but perhaps next time I'll just get water. I went to this location twice in 24 hours, the first meal was my favorite-salmon plate with Kale Salad and Red Chile Glazed Sweet Potato. Now I've had a good number of sweet potatoes in my life but these are the most delectable I've ever had! They're served with chopped bok choy with a light, fragrant glaze that has been itching to look for a knockoff recipe. The next day I went light with tofu and the potatoes and Grilled Asparagus Mujadara. I'm still not sure what the latter was but it was good. Honestly, I'm usually the type of person who stays quiet, doesn't say anything, and just never comes back. Thankfully, the manager, Iva, was so incredibly kind and professional. She noticed, made me feel totally comfortable speaking up, and jumped straight into problem-solving mode. Of course we only have so much time while visiting and want to try so many places but Flower Child was so good we had to have it twice in such a short time. I don't think I've ever been given this much at any restaurant...like ever. Please don't change that, because that would be such a disappointment. If there was a Flower Child in Lexington I would be tempted to give up cooking and just eat there every day! We did a day trip in Boulder and we're impressed with the many delicious dining options available! We wanted to pick up lunch to go and eat at Chautauqua Park nearby. My husband opted for an empanada spot but Flower Child caught my eye with its many veggie options. I ordered the Mother Earth bowl with tofu and it was delicious! There were a few different components of the bowl that all complimented each other and with the added tofu made for a filling lunch. The tofu was marinated/season in something that gave it the flavor profile reminiscent of baked chicken. Today was my 1st time here, ordered for takeout a salmon entree: the salmon was very bland but cooked well, the rice was fine, the glazed sweet potatoes were very, very bad. Some of them were brown/black in places (didn't look like it was coloration due to a char or a grill) & some pieces were so uncooked it was like biting into a raw potato, so I had to take a small bite of each piece carefully to see if it was even edible or not. I met up with a friend who was in town visiting and I think we were there for close to 3 hours. The staff were all very upbeat and friendly and had no problem with us staying there and chatting. They have an indoor and semi-outdoor area...lots of seating. The food is all healthy and delicious. I ordered the butternut squash lasagna and it was so yummy. They also have great portions and all sustainable packaging, including straws made from plants (which blows my mind). I highly recommend going and checking out Flower Child if you haven't already!
