Our family of 8 ordered different choices so we could try as many of the delicious entrees as possible. There are so many fabulous flavor combinations!!!!! This is a highly recommended local restaurant downtown in Auburn. I had to circle the block 3 times since you can't see the restaurant from the alley and once you locate this business, parking is difficult in their small lot and some cars start to park illegally along the side of the alley because they are too lazy to walk half a block where street parking is available. Service is very good once you arrive. The food is just okay, burger was an 8 out of 10. I didn't feel or taste the reputation this place has in Auburn. Writing this review and plan on updating it later. My wife and I were excited to finally go to the Acre after being in the area for a couple years and hearing nothing, but good things. We dessert up formal and showed up 15 minutes before our anniversary reservation. Though we were immediately seated, we were put in a corner in some part of the restaurant that felt like a cafeteria.. bright white, super loud (we couldn't hear one another at all) and no ambiance what-so-ever. The waiter was more attentive to his phone and flirting with the bartender in the other room than to us.. an appetizer never came out and he couldn't give us any wine recommendations. Never said a word, just would drop the food off (like, literally drop it off) and walk off back to the female bartender.. We were super bummed considering we planned this night out and dressed up. We told the door staff it was our first time here. We really thought we were going out to a fancy dinner with a nice, darkish atmosphere.. instead it seriously felt like a Burger King cafeteria area.. but at a rock concert because we were seriously shouting at one another. My wife just gave up.. I took a walk around and there were plenty of open seats in the other areas.. so I'm not sure what was going on, especially with anniversary reservations... We want to go back ONLY because the photos and reviews elsewhere show a very different experience than what we got. But considering the price and how much effort we put in last time, only to experience what we did last time, I have a very bitter taste in my mouth.. Doubt The Acre management really care, considering this is just one poor review in a sea of gleaming reviews, but I definitely expected more.. Wife and I haven't been in for sometime and I'm glad we did for brunch. The place was quiet and the staff were very friendly. Piper our server was the sweetest ever and made sure we had everything we needed. Wife had the Shrimp Étouffée, those grits were truly stone ground and very tasty. I order the chicken fried chicken and boy I've don't remember having potatoes, chicken or gravy so tasty. With crab, pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes it was the best starter to waken up your taste buds! A little bit of the south all in one starter. Then a server accidentally dropped off a heirloom tomato salad and I wasn't even mad. The most flavorful tomato cut into fours with homemade ranch and bacon underneath it then hot fried okra surrounding it. For supper was a filet of beef with brisket drippings and oyster butter on top with crispy green beans with just enjoying salt in them. Then there were smashed potatoes with a nice crisp to them. Horrible experience at the Acre Restaurant-Auburn DIRTY RESTAURANT!!! Arrive to the restaurant today for lunch and was sat at a dirty table. When I asked if it could be cleaned I was told by the hostess that it was cleaned already, I asked her not to try and convince me when there is clearly still food on the table from the last guest. The plates brought to our table were not clean and came with smudge marks and dried food. The menu to order from was stained with some type of food grease on most of the menu. Since cleanliness was not a priority in the dining area where I was sat I did not want to chance any unsanitary food coming from their kitchen so I decided to leave. I asked to speak to the manager before leaving to address the cleanliness. On arrival the manager was nice and friendly. I explained the lack of cleanliness and pointed the the young lady (hostess) the problem originated with. The manager asked me not to point or say anything about her in her presence because how it would "make her feel." At this point he suggested we move to another area to talk and we moved outside the front door. The manager continued the conversation outside by saying "I need to defend her (hostess) and I take responsibility for the dirty conditions" I appreciate his willingness to be responsible for the unclean conditions at this restaurant. I was taken back the lack of accountability of the staff by the manager. This would have been an easy fix it solution......clean the table, bring out clean plates and installed menus to order from but none of this happened. This was my first time at Acre and clearly will never return. I would NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GOING HERE until the cleanliness improves. read more

This casual plus restaurant was phenomenal and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. Southern hospitality is here without a question, and the amazing food helps too! Jeans and nice shirt is fine so if you're on the road, you don't have to worry about being too dressy for food that belongs in a very nice restaurant. If travels bring me back to auburn, I will certainly be returning. And I'm sorry, but anywhere that has (essentially) a dessert charcuterie board, deserves an award (see pictures). read more

Visiting for work and wanted something local and delicious. This hit the spot after a day of travel. I very much enjoyed the pickled plate, including grapes which were an inexpecred delight and the best brisket I've ever had. They had an extensive bourbon and wine menu and an offering of local beers on tap. I always sit at the bar when traveling solo so as not to take up a table. As it turns out, this wasn't the best idea. The servers had nothing to do so they congregated around the bar and I was largely ignored. It was disappointing not to have the southern hospitality to which I've become accustomed. I did the decor and the inviting space. I'd come back but would likely opt for a table. read more

Clueless hostess and poorly organized seating system. We timely walked in on a Monday night WITH a reservation. Of the THREE young, bored hostesses standing behind the desk only one could even be bothered to briefly glance at us and bother to make eye contact before all turned inward to work out the apparently complex issue of where to seat us. It felt as if for these girls our entry presented them with an unexpected, new and unique problem that had never presented itself before: to wit, where to seat a nicely dressed, middle-aged party of two timely arriving at the restaurant with a reservation. Our entry (into a less than half-full place with available last-minute reservations for any time you wanted that Monday night) caused the three hostesses to huddle and dive into a deep private discussion about where to seat us... Obviously no specific table(s) had been set aside for us (or others as we learned later) despite our reservation. After we watched these twits confab for about two minutes as if they were designing a complex piece of equipment - they finally broke huddle and one of them led us to a lousy, under-sized table just a few steps to the left of the entry. Tip: if they try and seat you along the row of tables along the wall just to the left if the entry - just refuse. In fact, over the course of our evening we watched party after party of two attempted to be seated at the tiny table closest to the entry (on the left) - only to ask to be moved within a minute or two of being seated. It actually became a game as my dining companion and I (seated a few tables away) started making bets as to how many parties they would try to seat at that table (clearly the least desirable table in the entire place) over the course of our evening. (Winning number was four). Anyway - our first impression based upon this performance was very poor. Toward the end of our meal we started chatting with an adjacent table and all agreed the primary hostess was clueless, unfriendly, and quite frankly more than a bit stuck-up. She was the first and worst part of our evening. Anyway - when finally seated at tables lined up along the wall just to the left of entry (take my advice and refuse to accept seating there) you will end up with a food server's ass regularly stuck in your face time-after-time as the help squeezes in-between tables and (depending on which way they are facing) either sticks their ass in your face or (if the help is talking to you) the faces of the persons seated at the table next to you. We found that rude and quite unpleasant. As to the food - nothing amazing. Pretty good but pretty pricey. Four stars for food. Two stars for hostess issues and seating arrangements. 3.5 overall. read more

We took our son (a student at Auburn) here, due to the reputation, and we knew with the prices he would never go with his friends on his own dime! Overall, my family and I had a good meal here. I would come back. I am vegetarian, so I got the Brussel sprouts and sweet potato. They were both very yummy. The cheese board had a good selection as well. My family enjoyed the steak and fish. I got the chocolate Matilda cake for dessert but was slightly disappointed as it was dry. Our server was in training, but very friendly. However, she forgot to put in our appetizer and we got it after our entree. I absolutely love this place. They have different things and different times of the year and new appetizers. It is awesome.

My friends and I came for dinner on Tuesday night. We had to choose between a 5:15pm or 8pm reservation, so we arrived earlier and got to enjoy the sunset. Between the 3 of us, we shared the soft-shell crab with smoked oyster grits and the chicken fried bacon for appetizers. They were good. As for entrees, we had the fried catfish, the coffee-rubbed tenderloin, and the butt-rubbed ribeye. Haha "butt-rubbed"! I had to get it. Our dishes were all pretty delicious. Mine, however, was definitely the best! So... go get your "butt-rubbed"! Ok but in all seriousness, I wasn't as impressed with the dinner menu as I have been with the brunch. My ribeye was super delicious because of the char, but the tenderloin was not that impressive. One of my friends critiqued that the menu options are too limiting and so eclectic that you just have to order a dish that comes with a bunch of random but specific sides (only for $2 can you swap for substitutes). read more
