Words can't describe the evening my husband and I had here. It was delightful. We came early and sat at the bar. It was Valentine's Day so they were busy. Oh wow. This place was spectacular. The okra wrapped in bacon is phenomenal. I now understand all of the comments about it. Love the ranch dressing with it. I had the smoked chicken, which was fabulous. I love the white sauce with it. I am more of a fan of dark meat, so I'm not sure I would order it again, but if you like white meat, it is really good. Hunter had the ribeye and loved it. I tasted it and even though I'm not a ribeye fan, I have to say it might've been one of the best ribeyes I've ever had... Not that I've had many. Lillie had the shredded pork which looked fabulous. Potions are very big. We did have the coconut cake and I had some coffee. I am not a huge coffee person. But I have to say the coffee was fabulous. Decided to return to Waverly local after a couple of disappointing experiences in the post Covid era. Food was great. I had black grouper and my wife had the pork chop. Service was friendly and atmosphere was nice. We went early on a Saturday prior to a basketball game. Nice crowd. Try the coconut cake. The Lake Martin/Auburn crowd needs a high end restaurant. This place is cool! They have street side dining, patio dining, indoor dining, and a cool bar built into an old delivery truck! What else could you ask for? I will make a trip from Birmingham just to eat here. This was James Beard-level food on a beautiful (but a bit loud) place. There were six of us and we each had something different. The pork dishes won the night but the shrimp and grits were tasty (without the bbq sauce - which just didn't belong). You feel very comfortable in the restaurant, kind of like you are having dinner at your fancy aunts house We ordered the bacon wrapped fried okra for an appetizer as I saw everyone else comment about it. This did not disappoint. We actually ended up ordering a second one so we all could have another piece. For entrees I ordered the smoked chicken, which came with broccoli as a side and some delicious white sauce underneath the chicken. The chicken was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful. With a dab or the white sauce, epic. I also could eat a plateful of the broccolini. My husband ordered their ribeye which also came with broccolini and potatoes. He rated it an 8 out of 10 (and didn't even ask for A1 sauce), so I would say that is a huge compliment to the chefs! Dessert we had their coconut cake that was recommended. My wife and I came here for our anniversary and left with nothing else to say but.... wow. Some places leave you with a story to tell.... this is one of those places. We had bacon wrapped wickles okra, pork skins, pimento cheese, cup of chili, ribeyes, and coconut cake for desert. All were spectacular and brought out in a very timely fashion. Service was impeccable. Our waitress, Mary Beth, made our evening very special and couldn't have been more kind and attentive to detail. We have the luxury of living a few miles from an establishment that is known for being voted Alabama's best steak.... and it is wonderful. The ribeyes we had here were the best I've ever had. Table service was very personable, but the hostess could use some training in customer service. Haha. She was not very professional. Ambiance was lovely. We sat outside on their patio. My wife and I were visiting Auburn, AL for a funeral, and while searching for "things to do," The Waverly Local came up as an excellent choice for dining. Located just 15 minutes from our hotel, we decided to check in and head for Waverly, AL. The Waverly Local has a comforting sitting area and a separate bar area, along with a place for a music venue. Our server, Sarina, welcomed and got to know us. We ordered Arnold Palmer's sweet and they hand squeezed lemons for them. I chose the Shrimp and Grits (without the red sauce, but asked for butter on the side) and my wife got the 1/2 Roasted Chicken with brussels sprouts. Both were delicious. What got me about almost every review I read was that "you have to try the Coconut Cake", so we did share a piece. The Coconut Cake is a must try. An excellent end to an enjoyable evening. The Waverly Local is one of my favorite restaurants on EARTH!! Their food is always incredible.. like beyond incredible. I got the braised short rib tonight and loved it. The first 2 times I ate here I got the pork dish and I remember being able to watch it shred with a fork.. oh my goodness!!! Roger is my favorite staff member here. The first two times we ate here, we didn't have Roger as a waiter but I remember watching him navigate the tables on packed nights and he had such a calm, professional delivery that reminded me of my fine dining serving days. We have been to Waverly Local a few times but since moving back to Auburn in October, tonight was our first night stopping in. Hands down, The Waverly Local is far better than several establishments in Auburn. The food, service and atmosphere in particular is way better than a few equivalent restaurants downtown Auburn and on the south side of town. Waited 25 minutes for the waitress to come to our table and drop off waters, another 20 minutes for our appetizers and my beer to come to the table, another 30 minutes to have our orders taken, and almost 45 minutes until our food arrived at our table. The table next to us was served apps, 2 rounds of drinks, their entrees, deserts, got their check paid, and left before we even got our 2 hamburgers and a house salad. I'm not sure if it was a race thing or what, but they still charged full price for everything after we expressed our displeasure with the extremely long wait time. In any normal kind of setting I would've thought maybe something would be comped, or maybe a desert added to try and ensure that we left somewhat pleased. Before passing judgement on my review, I want to encourage you (the reader) to look at my other reviews. Now, I made reservations for 6p and the only thing they had left was outside seating. The hostess attempted to put our party in the only table in direct sunlight, even though there was NO one else sitting outside. The water tasted like Well Water The Sweet tea tasted like it was made with Agave. That was a pleasant surprise and an excellent way to cover up the overwhelming well water taste in the water they used to brew the tea. We waited an entire hour to get our food. I had a burger, my kid had a butter noodle dish. Very simple to make, but the ticket time was slow. Too slow. We sat at this place for over 2hrs, so they don't turn over tables very well The wait staff and the kitchen are very clever with their hustle. Food wasn't hot, and the martinis are made with SEVERAL extra olives so they take up more room in the glass. We spent $112 on the total bill, and we won't be back. Zazu in Opelika or the Grove Station in Tallasee have similar vibes, and better quality food for more reasonable prices. Good luck dining! read more
